It really was hidden too because if not for GPS, we'd have driven right past it. Nook and Kranny describes it perfectly because it's a cool little spot off the beaten path. The food was delicious! My wife and I each had the Muffin French Toad and my stepson had the breakfast sandwich. For me, the star of the show was the cinnamon grits I ordered...they were fantastic! We were so happy finding this place and really enjoyed it. My family will definitely be back!

Little tea pots and handmade pot holders are for sale on the walls and in the windows. The food here is good and satisfying. The service, not so much. We waited quite a while for our order to be taken, and then to receive it. It's very small, so tables are one on top of another. Don't discuss any state secrets! The coffee is good, but no refills are offered and you have to flag down someone for more. In the winter, make sure you're dressed warm and lucky enough not to be seated directly in front of the doorway, as you're in the direct line of the cold wind coming in every time the door opens. That's the reason we found the only open table when we arrived, so it was on the chilly side.

Our server, Lily, did not…read moreinform us that hashbrowns were actually hash brown patties, and the home fries looked much better on my dining partner's plate. They brought me out some of those instead, as I am not a fan of patties that make me look like I'm eating at McDonald's, but the home fries were quite oily. We were there a very long time before our order was taken, and then to receive our meal. They seem to be understaffed, so our server seemed overwhelmed. It was hard to get coffee refills, which is one of my pet peeves when I go out to breakfast, as I like coffee very hot, so refilled frequently. I also requested my English muffin dry, but it came out loaded with butter. Be forewarned that they don't warn you about up charges when telling you what item choices come with the meal. Would I have minded paying extra for things like an English muffin or multigrain bread? No. But I do expect to be told ahead of time. (They charge extra for multigrain bread???) The owner removed it from the bill when questioned, but she was not pleasant about it. She tried to argue certain things and say she knows the server told us, despite her not being there when we ordered. This is not a good way to win over a new customer who had not been there before and doesn't know anything about your place. There are a lot of very good breakfast places in the area, and I go out to breakfast frequently (as you can tell from my many breakfast reviews). It's doubtful I will return again as I did not find the place friendly. The Collegeville Diner is much closer to me if I want a diner, and there are so many other places where the service is very friendly and quick. This is not one of them. The owner did make adjustments to the bill, but was not nice about it. (They seem to make a big deal about using Dave's Killer Multigrain bread, see owner's response to this review, which I've never had and don't care about. Who tells you that multigrain is one of the choices and then charges you more after the fact because you chose it?) You can go to Nook & Kranny and get fresh baked bread from local LeBus bakery without any extra charge. For my dining partner, it was her second time here and she had a negative experience the first time, where service was also slow and her food arrived cold. The only reason we gave it a try was that she said it was very busy at the time, so our logic was that it must be pretty good if it was that packed. It was not packed this time and service was still not great and the food was not good enough to offset the service. We have no desire to give it a third chance.

On our way out, we saw that the potatoes are stashed in an open tin under the stove, very close to the ground where the cook walks. The vibe inside was comfortable with brick walls and bright colors. Too bad the front doors were not open to create a 'come on in!' vibe. The service was pleasant and the food was good. We shared a calamari plate and my fish tacos were tasty. My friends enjoyed their pasta, soup, and salad dishes. There is a bar area (it is BYOB - bring your own wine or buy something at the next door brew pub to bring in) by the kitchen which would make a fine 'chef's table' experience but a person was taking up most of the area with all kinds of personal items. Not sure why (a family member?) was hanging out in the front of house area like that. The ambience could use a lot more charm and the curbside appeal could be so delightful with container gardens out front - a missed opportunity to stand out from all the other restaurants there. It wasn't super crowded on a Saturday night like many of the other spots.

For entrées, my boyfriend had the lamb chops and I ordered the seared sea scallops. The lamb chops were easily a 10/10! The scallops were cooked perfectly, though I personally felt the pumpkin risotto could have used more seasoning. I really wanted to try dessert but I was completely stuffed. Our waitress still insisted on bringing a complimentary scoop of ice cream, which was rich, delicious, and such a thoughtful touch. Overall, a wonderful meal and experience. I'm already looking forward to coming back!
