Do not trust this practices or previous reviews. I was a patient as this six years and the quality of care over time has dropped dramatically. It has become the most unprofessional medical environment I've ever been in. Two years ago there was massive staff turn over, the remaining staff will overcharge you for everything, lie to you face about your x-rays you can see on screen in front of you, and laugh at your pain in front of the dentist who won't even notice. I've been coming to this practice for nearly ten years and even though I live further away now, it's still worth the trek. Everyone is so friendly, the office is immaculate, and they're almost always ready right on time. As others have mentioned, Dr. Forman never tries to push any unecessary procedures like some other dentists. He's funny and straightforward and has assembled great team of front desk staff and hygienists. Liz is a total pro and a pleasure to talk to and I always leave satisfied and with very clean teeth. They were even kind enough to offer me a free extra polishing the week before my wedding. I could easily switch to a dentist closer to my home, but I hope I never have to. read more

Over my 74 years I have been to many dentists. I would say that those other dentists are mere 'tooth mechanics". Dr. Forman is truly a doctor who is concerned with your health and about you.... and yes, your teeth too. I have been a patient of Dr. Forman for 15+ years, and he is truly fantastic. Warm, friendly, thorough and highly professional, he is absolutely excellent. Very patient-focused. He also has a top notch team of dental hygienists, and I have been very happy with both Liz, who has been my "regular" and Arielle. The practice is well run. I was there today and I must say that the safety precautions around Covid-19 made me feel at ease and very confident that they are doing everything possible to keep their patients and themselves safe. Dr. Foreman is a great dentist. He is thorough, knowledgeable, and he listens to patients. I have been bothered at other dental practices by being asked to have X-rays taken more often than seemed warranted given the good condition of my teeth (never had a cavity!). Dr. Foreman understood my concern, and is willing to tailor that X-ray schedule to my situation. He also is great on giving advice for ways to prevent tooth decay and damage. I was referred to Dr Forman by someone who had been going to him for 20 years and said he was fantastic. To their credit, everyone at the office was friendly, respectful and efficient. They're probably fine if you have strong teeth...but that's all the positive I can say. Unfortunately, they failed to correctly identify my need for urgent dental work, despite conducting a "full dental checkup". I visited Dr Forman's office twice, in both instances complaining of sharp pain and hot/cold sensitivity radiating from my lower back teeth. During the first visit I was briefly inspected by Dr Forman, told it was most likely a viral outbreak and sent away to gargle salt water. On the second visit I had a "full dental checkup" which they required in order to join their practice (including x-rays). The checkup was conducted by Dr Forman's partner with the assistance of a pleasant but novice intern. The intern was not supervised while performing her duties. Rather, other dental assistants came in periodically to instruct her, for example, on how to use the x-ray machine. The dentist conducting the checkup told me that my lower back teeth were fine, but that I had a non-urgent cavity on my canine tooth (which has a root canal), and needed gum grafts from a specialist with whom they had a relationship. These conclusions sounded suspicious to me. She then handed me off to a hygienist. The hygienist easily pinpointed the source of my pain in the lower jaw with her cold air gun, but did not communicate this information back to the dentist. Instead, I was sent back to reception to book more appointments. Through it all, I felt as if I was in a well-oiled machine that only cared about getting patients through the door, and not at all about whether they were effectively treated. I declined to book any follow-up appointments, knowing that I could see my family dentist on the west coast in 3 weeks time for a second opinion/any filling required. My family dentist turned their diagnosis on its head. She said I had a cavity under the crown in the lower jaw, my canine tooth with the root canal was fine, and my gums had been stable for 10 years so there was no rationale for a gum graft right now. Unfortunately, by the time my family dentist was able to get to the cavity under my crown, there was a "tremendous amount" of decay which had built up both while I was pregnant, and in the three months since I first went to Dr Forman's office. I will now need a root canal. Frankly, I'm shocked that a professional dentist's office could be so incompetent. I urge others to be wary of trusting their teeth to such a team. read more

Originally written and posted on a duplicate profile on 3/4/11: I was referred to Dr. Forman by my co-workers at the Food Project back in 2004. I didn't have dental insurance but I always got my biannual check ups. I had gone to Gentle Dental in Somerville and they tried to convince me I had 8 cavities which I knew was BS based on my prior check up 6-months before. When I went to Dr. Foreman he saw what work I did and didn't need. I had to get a root canal and crown. When I told him my mother, who once was a dental assistant in NYC, would not be happy about the news he offered to call my mom. He actually called me one night several days later to check on me after the root canal work and asked again if he should call my mom (no joke). For big procedures like root canals and wisdom teeth removal he refers you to some excellent specialists in the area. For the 4 years I had visited Dr. Foreman I have always received excellent care and his hygienist are great too. My husband and I have referred him to friends, coworkers, and roommates. As mentioned in the previous review, Dr. Foreman is the best kept secret in Central Sq. Now that my husband and I live in Vermont, we miss having Dr. Foreman as our dentist. Our dentist is fine now but Dr. Foreman is by far the best at general dentistry and is a good person who cares about his patients. read more

I've just had my first visit with Dr. Forman. He and his staff were incredibly kind and thorough, explaining each step of the comprehensive exam and carefully answering my questions as we went along. The office is super modern and the cleanest I've seen. Dr. Forman took his time and was gentle and engaging -- though never overly so! Super glad to have Dr. Forman's office in my neighborhood. I have been going to Dr. Forman for five years now-- I was referred to him by a co-worker. Since then, I have recommended him to anyone who needs a dentist. He's the best dentist I've ever been to! He is very personable, and his staff is very professional and thorough. I used to go to Gentle Dental, until they kept telling me I had cavities (which I did not actually have). Every time I call the office, the receptionist is so polite and helpful. This past time I needed to go because a filling (from a previous dentist) had fallen out. They squeezed me in that day, and made it look so much better than it had before. Dr. Forman is always attentive, and never makes you feel like he's rushing between several patients. I'm conflicted about writing this review. While I'd like to keep Dr. Forman a secret so that I'll never have to fight for an appointment as it is right now, I also feel compelled to be a Good Samaritan and help local residents looking for a trustworthy dentist by spreading word of where to find one. To settle this struggle, I'll go with the latter and happily put out a good review for Dr. Forman because he's done such a great service for me. To begin, the location is convenient if you're a Central Square or Harvard Square resident. If don't have a mailbox in the area, you can still get there rather easily since the #1 bus drops you off in front of his office on Mass Ave. I've visited Dr. Forman 2-3 times already (sorry, but I don't have a great memory for dentist visits), and every one of them was quick and painless. My cleanings did not hurt like they usually did with past hygienists. When they're over, I always feel like Dr. Forman is being straight with me on whether I need any further dental work or not in his final review. Why do I say this? Well, when I lived in San Diego, I went to a dentist who got me on extra work every single time I stepped into the office. Additionally, for some reason, I just didn't have a good vibe with the DMD from the start. Maybe my worries were unwarranted, but since I've been making visits to Dr. Russell, the only extra work I've had was to repair some of the San Diego dentist's work. I don't think my brushing habits really changed over the years, and yet one guy is saying my mouth needs an overhaul, while the other says no problems for the most part. Maybe it's because Mr. San Diego dentist had his office in a posh building complex and he needed to cover his rent, but I guess I'll never know. Speaking of offices, the facilities are very clean and well maintained. Props for having The Economist for reading material, the only weekly that I read, but I didn't even get to pick it up because they were ready for me when I arrived. (Going off on a tangent, but if he actually reads it himself, I would not be surprised. Why? Because the guy attended UPenn for dental school! Check your school rankings and you'll start to feel real good about seeing him for your teeth.) All of the dental hygienists and the receptionist are cheerful, funny, and are very conversational. This really helps since going to the dentist can already make you feel a bit anxious. I suppose the only aspect that I can't make an objective comment on is price because my dental plan has taken care of everything. I'm sure it's safe to say that he's competitively priced since there are several other options in the area, but you should feel confident that he's going to do a good job because, again, he received his training from one of the better schools. And after you go to him once, your ease of mind will come from your excellent experiences with him and his staff. read more

My co-worker referred me to Dr. Foreman when I broke a tooth. I had the same family dentist for 30 years and traveled back to a different state for my routine dental care but I couldn't wait for this and I had been less than diligent in the routine stuff over the last couple of years. Dr. Foreman completely understood the relationship with my other dentist and still fixed me up with infinite patience and kindness, understanding that I may still use the "other dentist' for big stuff. I'm thrilled to now have a dentist in the actual state I live in and will be looking forward to my next cleaning. To top it all off, Ellie, the front office person is a delight. She has the calm and interested demeanor you hope for in a friend or a therapist and it is a great comfort in a dental office, where sometimes you are there against your wishes...
