It wasn't until I got to Pelham and met Greg that I decided to buy a mattress. We went through the awkward and fake "becoming best friends" experience in all the stores we visited. I had to argue with one Bedszzzz manager because he wouldn't accept my assessment of the size of the mattress I was replacing. Without exception they all wanted to start with a higher line than I had said I wanted. Greg stood up, smiled, and said, "How can I help you today," and the experience got better from there. He didn't have the size I wanted in extra firm, but he brought in another size of the same mattress from the warehouse and let me try it. I told him I liked it and he gave me a price that was 10% to 20% better than the same mattress in other stores. I asked him about delivery. Greg looked out the window and saw the Honda CRV I was driving and said, "If you want to go over to the warehouse just down the road, the mattress would fit in my car and I could take it home today. Then I could bring the old mattress back at my convenience." As he was writing up the order, I learned his name and we talked about his kids and my grandkids and had a very pleasant visit. I don't suppose, at my age, I'll be buying many more mattresses, but if I do, I hope Greg is still there 'cause I love his service. BTW, I love the mattress, too. February 21 -- Seventy-five days later, I walk into the store. A very nice woman greets me. "Hi. When is our bed going to be delivered?" "Hmmm....Sometime in early March." "You guys told me 6-8 weeks." "I don't have any record of that." "That's what was told to us." "Well, let me check on that." Mind you, the woman who waited on me was very nice and professional, so a bonus star for that. But I think waiting 13 weeks for a piece of furniture--especially when I was told the wait would be roughly half that--is excessive. No. Seriously. I realize that this is not Ikea. I do understand having a waiting period for well-built stuff. I really do. But houses are built in less time. Handel took only 24 days to write The Messiah. The entire invasion of Iraq took place in less than a month. A quarter of the year has slipped past. However, this is what happens when your furniture is made in China. So, right now, our bed is likely sitting in a container in Long Beach. And if there is some ding in the furniture, then we'll be waiting another 13 weeks. So if you're looking to buy furniture, forget what the salespeople tell you. Expect a wait.

I wanted a couch that day so I picked one in the store but had I been able to wait for one I would've looked more at their online inventory. They also have a whole back room for clearance items. I called the day before to find out if this item was available on the showroom floor and I couldn't have gotten a friendlier person on the phone to help me. She was like Aunt Bea brought all of the way to 2019 to help out a man in need. The next day I went down there in a hurry to try this bad boy out for myself. Now remember, I've sat on about every couch in Birmingham by this time so I know just what I'm looking for in terms of the perfect firmness/cushiness and the look I wanted the leather to have. She encouraged me to sit on it any way I wanted to and even stretch all of the way across it! She showed me a few more items in the store to make sure this one was what I wanted but i was sold on this beauty from Mississippi. They threw in delivery for free and I bought an extended warranty on top of the manufacturer warranty because I want this to last me the long haul and my family ain't too easy on the furniture. There are only a few furniture retailers in Birmingham that are worth shopping at if what you want is excellent quality. Scandinavian Design has that quality. I walked the store as I always have "Lusting" for the Stressless Couch I always wanted, and my wife won't let me purchase. There in the back was a Zero Gravity, Massage, automated pedestal with ALL the bells and whistles. The mattress on it was a Tempa Petic which is also VERY High End. The sales associate hit the Massage Button on the wireless remote and the decision was made instantly. I asked for the price and to have my wife join me. The price was reasonable, part of that is Teresa and staff are always fair. I also believe we should always buy in the town we live it. That is were the personalized service is the best. When I went home, I did my normal research and found that unit had a better model. I called Teresa and asked if they sold the "Top-Of-The-Line" model in that brand. She said yes, I said can you sell me that and just charge me more. She said of course. Folks, if you read my Yelp and Google Reviews. I am not always as kind as I am here. I am ALWAYS honest and always consider being accurate as my strength. Teresa, her staff and her business is the "Best of the Best". Just my two cents.

In addition to the stores's fabulous inventory, the customer gets one-on-one design services from its professional decorators at no extra cost. I've worked with Theresa over the years and she knows my style. She remembers what I have purchased and recommends things that work with what I already have. Another service they offer is their furniture delivery. They don't call it "white glove delivery" but that is what it is. The bottom line is everyone connected to the store really cares. I would describe this store as an affordable luxury contemporary store with unique items. It is a valuable resource and I don't know what I would do if it was not here.
