If I could give this company zero stars I would. I lost both parents within 15 days of each other and I needed help with a sale and donations for the things that didn't sell. Laura came to my house and boy is she a good sales person, she really knows how to prey on your vulnerability and grief. She said all the right things, too bad none of it was true. I specifically asked her if they emptied the house when the sale was over because I knew I needed help and companies did this after having this kind of service with my aunt's estate sale. I also asked her about trash removal and she said they would handle all of it, not to worry. I have a signed contract stating the same and if it was excessive I would pay extra (which she said wouldn't be more than $200-300 which was fine). Again, I have a contract. All of the trash was left on my parents driveway in the rain for a week and the house was full of things that didn't sell and they did NOTHING with it. When I brought it to her attention she said they weren't in the trash and donation business. Can you say LIAR? Yes, she's a Liar. I immediately contacted the owner of the company Shane who didn't even respond back to me. I was also told they would take thousands of pictures and list everything separately for an online auction. I liked the idea of an online auction because my mom had been sick and the house wasn't what it once was. In reality the Rusty by Design team bundled a lifetime of belongings (45 years in this house) into 310 bundles. They didn't even describe what was in the bundles. My parents had beautiful clothes and they only took a couple of pictures of them, bundled them all together and sold as a group for around $11. I had a brand new chair massager that was included in "medical supplies" that wasn't even mentioned. I also found bags of clothes including a full length leather Womens coat and mens button down Ralph Lauren shirts in the trash in the rain on the driveway. This place is a real shit show, save yourself from the frustration and heartache. More to come, karma is a bitch as they say. I did finally get my $ which was a paltry $5,500 because of the way it was done. read more

Professional and easy to work with, they got good prices for my Lladros, Murano glass, gold jewelry, Henredon furniture and designer hand bags. The employees here are so helpful. Good variety of items. Also are good about having multiple pictures and including measurements so you knew what if an item will fit in its intended place. Now that they have gone cashless, it really speeds the checkout process. The loaders at the warehouse work well together and really can handle big items fast. It is very unfortunate that I can not recommend this company. I entrusted this company with an entire household to be sold in their gallery. I was moving in with my son and his family, so basically everything had to go. They did sell over 200 of my items. However, there was at least that much that never showed up in the gallery auction. Things of value and were very important items to me that I had to sell. When I inquired about where those items were, the only answer I was given was they were donated. They were very rude to me and I was shocked at how I was treated. I inquired about a few of the items I had that were never posted, ie, boxes and boxes of vintage China, unusual dishes, round Fostoria cake stand, brand new Electric blanket, art, wall paintings, memorial items from okc bombing, brand new tennis shoes, IPad, another tablet with all accessories, new purse, etc. and the only answer they gave was they donated the items. And this is just a short list of missing items. Why would an auction company donate valuable items without trying to sell them? I'm sure someone is benefiting from my items, but not because they were donated! So disappointed!! Do not use this company! read more

Just had my items auctioned off in Aug.2019 and very unhappy. Found promises, expectations all false. Photo's, descriptions and follow up was not professional. Before auction had to deliver a few items that were missed and saw items of mine in the dumpster. Communication was less then professional. Auction over, picked up what didn't sell and was told some items did sell that I know didn't and given items that were never mine. Lastly received check with NO itemized statement. Love the auction style and love being able to bid on items you can pick up. The complaint I have is they need a much improved checkout and pick up system. The staff alwasy seems tired and angry like they do not want to be there. And there should be multiple checkout people instead of checking out one person at a time and making sure all items purchased by the person in front of you are removed from the site before another person is alowed in. Last time I waited over an hour in line just to pay and pick up my small two items. Maybe they need to hand out red bull to staff before they start working with customers who are giving them money ! read more

First auction purchase from Rusty by Design went ok. I use Texas HiBid and they auction off that platform. Second on line auction, I won a vintage iron sconce. I called their office and paid for item AND shipping using my credit card. After a couple of weeks I reached out to Rusty by Design multiple times - both by phone (they rarely answer so you leave a voice mail) and by email to advise them I wanted the sconce and had never received it. Not once did I get a response. Finally after 2 months, I contacted my credit card company and reversed charges because this auctioneer never replied to my communications, never shipped my purchase and was going to keep my funds. Last night I went to register for an auction and was told Rusty by Desgn had left feedback that is communicated to all auctioneers that I "defrauded" them by having the charges for sconce reversed for a purchase they never shipped. I'm cool if you screw up as a business, let me know you lost my purchase, respond to my calls and emails and simply return my funds. BUT I'M NOT COOL WITH NOT SHIPPING MY ITEM, KEEPING MY MONEY AND THEN PUBLICLY POSTING I DEFRAUDED YOU. This is the biggest scam! They take your belongings and promise to take care of them, list them in the best way on auction, get you the most money they can, pay you within a week of auction end, blah blah blah! It's all a bunch of lies! They pick up your stuff, break half of it in the truck, list about 10% and expect you to donate the rest! They don't pay what they say and they don't pay when they say they will. They actually do pretty much nothing they promise. They are totally unorganized, unprofessional, unwilling to communicate or explain why they lied or haven't paid. They stole some of our things and promised to bring back but sold it! ok, so it has been several months and still nothing from these guys about the office chair I bought that was misrepresented. I filed a complaint on the BBB and their response was to state that my "slandering them publicly" is excuse for them to not do anything about it and proceeded to blame me for their screw up. I have not heard word one from them, but I have seen on their Google profile that they are claiming, "We strive to ensure all descriptions are accurate. When we make a mistake, we always make reimbursements." and "also when we make mistakes on our descriptions we will offer refunds". I am calling BS since they have done the exact opposite and are trying to make it my fault that they won't do the right thing. If you are considering using these people to sell your stuff or are thinking about bidding on an item at their site, you should really read the other negative reviews, we aren't a bunch of crazies having fits because we can't get something for nothing, there is a real pattern here. We used Rusty by Design to liquidate my mother's belongings in her house. The team that came to organize the items into lots and take pictures for the online auction were very professional and pleasant to be around. They got the job done within a day and left the house and its items in good condition. The pictures were then posted to the online auction site and looked very professional. The auction went better than expected. Now for the not-so-good. The back office needs a lot of work. The contract we signed with Rusty by Design stipulated we would get our check within 10 business days from the end of the auction. Day 10 came and went and no check. We contacted the manager who contacted the owner. The owner claimed the checked had been cut and approved and would be in the mail. Nearly a week went by and no check. Mind you the company is located within the same metropolitan area to my house. We then contacted the manager and were passed directly to the owner who we communicated with by text. This was a Friday. We got no reply to the text from the owner regarding the status of our check. We got a check the following Monday. The envelope it came in was post marked Saturday. Rusty by Design was late by well over the 10 business days in paying us. Before using this company, I recommending doing your research. Google the company and read other reviews. You will most likely see more of the same sort of complaints. read more

I have bought things from them before and never had a problem. I had even referred people to buy from their site. I used to like this site better then others in the Metroplex. Today I pick up four items, three of which have MAJOR issues that are obvious. A clock that is totally cracked, Schenley bar light that does not even have a usable cord, other item is missing the whole bottom side. None of this was pictured or mentioned in description. I dealt with Shane twice about getting items picked up and auctioned that I no longer wanted a couple of times (he was the ONLY one I could find who picks up, most auctioneers make you bring it to them) every time he was hell to deal with. He is a snarky, arrogant prevaricator whom I don't wish on anyone to have to use. He almost never mailed either of my two checks and I had to threaten to get the police involved, just to get what was owed to me, and 6 weeks later, not the original 2.5 weeks I was told. I am very displeased with this auction company. My partner bid on several items via the online auction. We are seniors and can not lift heavy weight. We attempted to contact them to ask a few questions and had a heck of a time getting through to someone. When we finally did get to speak with a live person, they were very rude. I just returned to my mom's house, first time since the auction, and I was shocked. I was thoroughly disgusted at the condition the house was left in. There was trash everywhere, packing trash, fast food containers and cups, boxes and packaging everywhere. Also, the stickers on the granite and painted walls will cause damage trying to get those off. They can't use painters tape?? My mom's house was no where near such horrible condition and it should be treated with respect, as all homes should. There is so much junk and trash left I have to hire another company to remove it all. I am completely overwhelmed at how this company thinks this is acceptable. Disgusted. I sent pics to the owner who promised to make it right, causing me to postpone the other company to pick up the trash but I never heard from rusty by design again. They also failed to get payment on a very expensive piece of jewelry so I said to just get it back to me and they agreed but I have yet to receive it, over a month later. I bid in one of their online auctions, and the process worked flawlessly. My questions on a couple of the items were answered promptly, and I love Rusty's "rolling" internet auction closings in which groups of items close every minute instead of all at once. In this case, the first 7 items closed at 8:00, the next 7 at 8:01, etc. This helps ensure you have every opportunity to bid. My favorite auction house! read more

BAD customer service!!!! We used this company to remove property at a wholesale price rather than do an estate sale. The agreement was that all specified items would be removed. They left two large items, which caused us great difficulty in moving ourselves. When I called to complain, I told Shane (the owner) that unfortunately I would have to rescind the recommendation I had given a friend, as well as leave a bad review. He said that this was threatening him. He continued to be rude and condescending to me, and then hung up on me. Very untrustworthy company! read more
