All three of us (the Mrs, my Aunt, and myself) ordered the Biertgarten Smashburgers and we split an order of the Cheese Curds. The burgers were two 4oz chuck/brisket patties, fried onion, American cheese, lettuce, pickles, and Smash Sauce served on a toasted brioche bun and is FANTASTIC! Have plenty of napkins at your disposal as the flavor oozes from this burger! The hand-cut fries are a great side and very good too (I had to add some salt to put them over the top)...the Cheese Curds made it a trifecta...they were outstanding as well, crispy coating and melt in your mouth cheesyness! The servers were very helpful and ready to help out at a moments notice. Dixie's Biertgarten Smashburger has moved on to my Top 5 Burgers I've Ever Had list... Two Fathoms Brewing is an independent craft brewery in Winona, MN, located in a restored 1883 freight station in the historic Driftless region. they offer a rustic taproom experience with some great brews. "Anybody Want a Peanut?": A Porter made with real peanut butter and milk chocolate giving it the depth of flavor with none of the artificial tastes. New Riders of the Pilsner Haze: A New Zealand Pilsner hopped with Nectaron, Nelson Sauvin, and SubZero Hop Kief. The Owl Farm Experiment: An Experimental IPA brewed with Strata, Mosaic, and Galaxy. Tropical fruit smacks you in the face with citrus and peach coming in the next round. The Diesel Fitzgerald: A Dunkel using Midnight Wheat and Dark Munich malts. It is a beautiful Dark Wheat lager that is light in bodied but full in flavor. Crooked Slough: A Barrel Aged Stout aged Eighteen Months in Bourbon Barrels that were still wet with Vermont Maple Syrup. Very maple forward, but not hot or overly sweet. ___

I stumbled across this place after making plans to have dinner with some friends at Rudy's Tacos, which is housed in the same corner building. This bar is located directly across the hall from the Lava Lounge and I believe has the same owners. Arriving early on a Tuesday evening there were a few people in the Lava Lounge but no one yet at the Beer Hall. While waiting for a third friend to arrive we bellied up to the bar and were attended to by a great bartender who knew his beer. The bartenders floated between the bars on an as needed basis and one could order something on tap from either bar. Very easy going, very friendly. Now about the beer. Between the two places there were approximately 10 taps including beers from Jolly Pumpkin, Tool and Brouwerij Bavik (Petrus Oud Bruin) and bottles and cans ranging from $2 Grain Belt Nordeast to Bourbon County Brand Stout to Duchesse de Bourgogne. Since I was just back in town visiting I can't speak to the prices very well but they seemed reasonable. On Thursdays they apparently offer beer from another neighbor in the same building, Guerrilla Brewing Company. I wasn't around long enough to give that a try but certainly hope to on the next visit.

They have a nice selection of interesting beers and sours. We enjoyed them all! Our 2 favorites were the salty dawg and Tingles (amazing). We ended up taking home a couple of 4 packs. Sadly they are gone already! The guys working this day were very friendly and helpful with selections and quick to serve! I was immediately greeted by Sophia who handed me a beer list and was happy to pour a sample. That's nice service to start out with. She checked in but was never overbearing. A+. Their unique 60/40 beef/bacon burgers caught my eye...mine had cheese sauce, tons of bacon, and bacon jam. You can only have these cooked medium well or well done; for a burger I feel that's acceptable. Sandwich components were all delightful...the beer battered fries have a nice smooth coating and the house made ranch was the thinner variety was a great complement too. I'll kip the pretzel bun next time; I didn't find it to be a great complement to the components on the burger. I felt too many taps had crappy mass-produced domestics for the squares out there. I highly recommend the Mason City Cream Ale. Wish they sold their glasses! Credit cards have a 2.99% service fee. Thankfully, debit cards have no fee...which is the law.
