A surprisingly lively and modern oasis for weary travelers. Many menu items were sold out when we visited late on a Sunday evening, but the Caesar salads we got were composed of a generous pile of crispy and refreshing lettuce. Servers were delightful. Absolutely loved everything! The service was excellent and friendly. The restaurant and restrooms were very clean. The food was delicious and unique. On May 9 Murdo was the end of a long day's drive and we were tired and hungry. At Rusty Spur, the manager greeted us, seated us and took our drink orders and checked back twice. Vinny was great. The young waitress promptly took our orders. She and the young bus boys were attentive and professional with manners and grace befitting a fine dining experience. We ordered comfort food that was just excellent - the brisket sandwich special and the chicken, corn and mashed potatoes gravy bowl. From the east coast and feeling a wee bit out of my element the Rusty Spur staff couldn't have been more welcoming. Set in a barn w a silo w awesome rustic decor the atmosphere is authentic and comfortable. Dina was the sweetest! She made awesome food recommendations - I got the patty melt and added mushrooms- it pretty much melted in my mouth-WOWZA it was good! She also ensured me the Salad be was fresh and it really was simple, fresh and delicious! It was Valentine's Day and Dina brought me a beautiful flower they were giving out to couples which really made my day! I travel 5 days a week and usually all you can find in a 'one horse' town is a subway and all the restaurants that are local close by 6pm....so excited to find a spot like this w cheap beers and excellent food, atmosphere and service! read more

Don't let the outside fool you. This place might look better than the other eating establishments in town, but it is awful. When we walked in the door every local in the place stopped talking, turned and stared at us. Not a warm welcome. It's barely a restaurant, more of a really large bar. But the crazy thing is their menu. It is extremely limited. And the prices were outrageous!!!! I have no problem paying a lot for great food but it pisses me off to pay a lot for awful, overpriced, dried out, greasy and gross food. The staff was scary too. Stopped on our way from Sioux Falls to Black Hills. Google said they were closed at lunch but they were actually open. It's the most attractive restaurant we saw just off the highway in Murdo. Looks new. Nice atmosphere, small patio. Friendly waitress. We both had burgers but tried the chislik. Had never tried chislik but it was cooked just the way we requested and had a nice smoky flavor. The ladies running the front are so nice and professional.... no, I'm not drunk... this is true... they're overrun by customers on a Friday night and still treating everybody like a king. Patty melt, fries, fish and shrimp (no side). Cheap, rushed bar food. The fish tasted like the fryers had been turned off and then turned back on and not heated well and the oil was dirty. The patty-melt was all grease. It was late and everything else was closed. But if we come back to this area, we will not go here. $28 was a lot for bad food. If you are open, don't turn off your equipment just because you are closing in an hour and business is slow. read more

Very cute place . The reviews were scary but our camper was at the bottom of the stairs and it was off season so there was no where to go! The inside was brite and clean with adorable western decor! We sat at the bar and ate at the bar. The bar tender was very attentive. The burgers and steak were great , fries could have been cooked more. Very very nice people at the bar to chat with! The decor was cool staff wasn't horrible and I will say that the bread was awesome. Past that however I was pretty disappointed. We stopped in for steak. What we got was not good. I could have bought a steak at walmart and grilled it myself for a better experience! Definitely did not feel like I got my money's worth. That being said, I don't know what the burgers are like. I'm sure if you aren't looking for a great steak in a state where cattle is a major enterprise then you may be happy here. I personally won't be going back. read more

Wow Murdo has some disturbing bar side eateries; this place is no exception. If your looking for a place where you have to ask for every drink in a nearly empty bar, this may be your place. Equally as fun was the fact that I got the last of the Sure Fine steak sauce, I mean they had one bottle in the restaurant, and it was empty. With the steak I had, that stuff was priceless.
