Rusty's was on my list to try while visiting Vicksburg and was recommended by someone recently, so I decided to check it out for dinner one night. I sat at the bar when visiting, and the bartender was very friendly and got my order quickly. During my visit, Rusty's got very busy and all tables and the bar were full. The bartender was great, keeping up with all the drinks and still checking in with everyone sitting at the bar! I ordered the coconut shrimp and had my choice of two sides with it from a few different options. The shrimp was good and I really enjoyed the sauce! If you're visiting Vicksburg and at one of the many museums downtown or at the military park, this is a great location close to everything and right across from the river. Inside, Rusty's is very casual and is a great spot to go with a group or a family. If you're looking for a casual spot with a good amount of seafood, sandwiches, and other options, definitely check this place out! read more

This spot deserves more than 5 stars! The best cheesy grits ever, they were seriously my fave out of everything. But the blackened shrimp was finger licking good as well! From drinks to appetizer to entree, I really enjoyed the taste, sauces, freshness in every bite. I tried the two way combo which allows you to pick, of course 2 from the following irresistible options of shrimp, bay scallops, oysters, crab cakes, or grouper all broiled or fried. Menu states one side but the server told me to pick 2 sides as well so I'm one happy gal. And let me just say, so much food! I tried to finish everything but unfortunately I couldn't. Hubby and I stopped here on the recommendation of Charles at the civil war museum up the street, and he was spot on. I ordered the redfish, and hubby had the seafood pasta. Both were delicious. My redfish was served with a crayfish sauce that was yummy. His pasta had shrimp, scallops, and crab meat. He said it had a nice, lemony finish. Our waitress was very nice and seated us quickly. Rusty's never disappoints. Never has and I have faith that it never will. The bread is always soft and fresh, the gator bites are some of the best, all of the deserts are superb, the fried green tomatoes with the sauce are delicious, all of the seafood is great rather it's fried, grilled or blackened. The steaks are so good that they can definitely rival a steakhouse. To top it off the service has always been top notch. Rusty's has a cozy feeling and it's situated on a corner with parking along the street. The orders arrive to the table quickly even when the restaurant is full. Every waitress I've ever had never left our glasses empty. Rusty's is a great spot to dine in with family or colleagues. I will go as far to say that this is a staple/institution to the city of Vicksburg. I can assure you it will continue to be one of my go to spots whenever I'm in Vicksburg. read more

Found this place while exploring Mississippi, this restaurant is located in VicksBurg, downtown area, right across from the Mississippi River Commission. For starters, we ordered a cup of gumbo: New Orleans-style with fresh shrimp, oysters, scallops, fish and sausage topped with rice. (I added hot sauce for more flavorful and with the fresh rolls.) We also ordered the Flash-fried Blue Crab claws served with lemon butte and homemade cocktails sauce. Which I never had before, and we were pleased with how the tasted, so this is a must try for anyone's who enjoy crab legs. For main dish: My boyfriend ordered the Rusty's House Specialty, it's a Blackened Redfish with crawfish creamy sauce, with cheesy grits and side salad. The sauce is real creamy, tasty and plenty of crawfish meat. For me, I had the Grouper Fish Fry on a sesame seed bun with Sweet Potato Fries. The fish fried is plain, the sweet potato fries are a little saggy. I'm a picky eater, so the pickings are a little rough for me at Rusty's, but I got a shrimp poboy. Super good! The service is good too, very friendly front workers who conversed with us as if they knew us. The only thing I don't really care for is how close the tables are. You feel a little cramped if the restaurant is crowded. But you do get a good view of the Vicksburg street if you're seated in the right place. Cute little place. read more

Same as David L.'s review below. I hate to even give this a one star rating. A terrible food experience. The oyster appetizer was a joke. They were definitely not fresh or fresh shucked, and were chewy, plus most were the size of a dime. We also ordered the two Jumbo soft shelled crabs, no crab meat, with two sides. Those were not "Jumbo". More like small. Plus the claws had more meat on them and there were no meat in the crab itself. To top that off, the waitress delivered us the "Jumbo" soft shelled crabs crab with the lump crab meat, which we didn't order, and were over salted, then refused to charge us for what we actually ordered, because she claimed we ate the, not so called lump crab meat. I felt that the little crab meat they had on top made up for the lack of crab meat in the tiny, so called "Jumbo" soft shelled crabs crab crabs. And one last thing, the side cream spinach we couldn't eat and just one bite tasted like there was soap in it. I guess I'm at fault ordering seafood during Lent from a restaurant that isn't close to a coast line. If anyone reads this, and insists on going there, stay away from the seafood. read more

My dad and I ate here after visiting the Military Park. The food was great. I had the shrimp tacos and my dad had the cheeseburger. The fried pickles made for an excellent appetizer (accompanied by house made Ranch). Downtown Vicksburg is quaint and what you'd expect from an old small town. Clean, quiet, packed with history. My family and I were on vacation and my husband wanted to eat at a restaurant on the river with a view and the pictures seem to suggest that it is a riverfront restaurant with a view. There is a huge ship permanently in front of the restaurant and no view of the river. That was disappointing. Our waitress was very polite and everything in our large parties order was correct. The fried green tomatoes with hollandaise sauce were awesome and they had a drink made with their own pineapple vodka that was also really good! Well, how about this, people? Upon entering Rusty's you find that you have walked into what appears to be your typical American local cafe. Cash register by the door, sided by a refrigerated glass front case displaying the restaurant's delectable house-made desserts, bare topped cafe tables, paper napkin wrapped flatware, and a large laminated menu featuring an extensive and varied array of enticing offerings. etc. What you cannot see until is appears in front of you on the table is the magic this restaurant's cooks are working back in the kitchen. Holy smokes. We are on the way back to Tejas after a month on the northwest Florida Gulf coast where we had so much seafood we grew gills, fins and claws... eating at a number of the area's very best seafood restaurants as well as at mom and pop hole in the walls and everything in between in our search for fried mullet, enjoying fresh seafood virtually every single day. And I'm here to tell ya, our dish at Rusty's was as good as the best you'll find at the coast's finest restaurants and WAY better than in many if not most of the coast's popular seafood restaurants. These cooks have seriously got it goin' on in this kitchen. We ordered, to share, the grouper stuffed with crab cake. The piece of grouper had to weigh close to 10 ounces and it was stuffed, no, I'm telling you... plumb stuffed chock full with Rusty's terrifically tasty crab cake mixture. The fish was broiled to absolute perfection... tender, flaky, moist and flavorful. It is served with clarified butter and a lemon wedge which together elevate the dish to broiled fish nirvana. Spectacular! And here on the banks of a muddy, little river in Mississippi! : ) And the cheese grits! What sadly all too many restaurants, even in the South, do to the greatness of the noble corn grit is just scandalous and shameful. But what this kitchen does with their cheese grits here is worthy of a James Beard Award for grits greatness. A fellow Yelper said so, so we tried 'em and were wowed. Very, very good (well, at least for a restaurant LOL). Judging from a packed house on an early Thursday evening this place is clearly popular here and for very good reason it appears. We were in Vicksburg a week and I wish we had found Rusty's sooner. They were very busy when we arrived as it was Tuesday and there aren't many places open. We sat at the bar and received good service. The restaurant is has both a large dining room, and a large bar area with many tables in the bar area as well as the bar itself . My only negative thought was the fact that they allow children to sit at tables in the bar area and unfortunately there was a toddler who like most toddlers was not happy about sitting in the high chair. Personally, I would not allow children that small to sit in the bar area. It's not that I don't like children. I have five grandbabies of my own but to me a child that young who is disruptive shouldn't be in a bar area with mostly adults. We ordered green fried tomatoes with hollandaise sauce as an appetizer, there were six generous slices of tomato and plenty of sauce. I chose lump crab cake salad with honey mustard. It was fresh and topped with tomato, egg, cucumber, pickled green beans and pickled okra. I didn't care for the flavor of the okra neither did my husband but that's personal preference. The salad came with two good size crab cakes that were cooked nicely, I took one home. My husband ordered the 8oz ribeye MKT price with baked potato and a salad. The steak was a nice cut and cooked perfectly. The baked potato was a good size as well in fact he bought half of it home. Stopped by for lunch on a cold day. Waited about 15 minutes to be seated as it was super packed for lunch. My server Kimberly was at my table to take my order swiftly. She was very efficient and nice. Kept my tea refilled without being asked. She checked on me as needed as well. Ordered the coconut shrimp plate with a salad (honey mustard dressing) and baked potato. Salad and dressing was really good. Baked potato was big but a little underdone on the bottom. I enjoyed the shrimp a lot. However I would have preferred to have a sweeter sauce that I've had before with coconut shrimp instead of the spicy chili sauce that comes with it. We got the bill and there was $4 up charge for the asparagus and my wife had some up charge for creamed spinach. I shouldn't make a big deal over $4, but, I don't recall the menu mentioning it. Maybe I overlooked that but $4.00 EXTRA for some stringy asparagus? Seems like there was also a 3% convenience charge. I guess for using a debit card? It was automatically added to the bill without asking if I wanted to use cash. These are probably petty issues but with a two person total near $100 might sway my choice next time I'm in Vicksburg. read more

Everything was fresh and tasted great. I ended the meal with the key lime pie. Which was one of the best I have ever tasted. By far the best soft shell crab I've ever had and if your a grit fan like me, the cheese grits are amazing, you forget your eating grits! Beyond the wait, everything was great. We were on vacation and were looking for a place to eat Going to the trusty internet, we discovered Rusty's Riverfront Bar and Grill. Waiting until 5 meant we had an hour, so we spent it at the Old Courthouse Museum and we were not disappointed. At Rusty's, one ordered the blackened redfish, one the blackened chicken, me, the shrimp tacos, and the husband, Hawaiian chicken sandwich. Every single dish was more than enough food and absolutely perfect. We cannot say enough just how much we enjoyed Rusty's. Oh, we can't forget the Mississippi Mud cake that we took to go.
