This is a wonderful "Mom and Pop" style restaurant. My mother absolutely enjoyed herself! I was visiting from North Carolina, but my mom lives here all the time. Even she didn't know about Ruth's Family Restaurant. She is so thankful that she now has a new place to go. Everything about our experience was great. The food was wonderful. My husband did the lunch menu and thoroughly enjoyed himself. My mother and I had breakfast, and they even fixed the food to fit her eating needs. Unfortunately, my mama can't chew hard food so they made it to her exact specifications with no problems. Now for our wonderful server... Did I say she was wonderful? I meant our excellent, fantastic, outgoing, young lady, who assisted us. Her enthusiasm for working there, her knowledge of the menu, and most importantly, her interaction with my mother and my husband, made the experience phenomenal. This spot doesn't look appealing from the outside. It appears to not look great when you pull up. Man o man, we could walk in and seat ourselves, not too busy. A party of 7 was quickly seated... I ordered a broiled salmon patty with grits, biscuit (which was so good by the way) and scrambled eggs. Waitresses were great and attentive! We decided to try a takeout order. The place was packed and no outdoor seating. No social distancing. I ordered the hungry breakfast, but when we got home my grits with cheese was missing. I ordered scrambled eggs & it looked like powdered egg & definitely not 2 eggs worth. There was a gross watery substance under them. My husband got the chicken fried steak breakfast. All of his food was there. I called the restaurant & told them I was missing part of my order, and they said it was only $1.25 and I could drove back to either get the grits or be refunded $1.25. I said that was unacceptable. So after wasting 30 min on the phone she refunded the $1.25 + the tip. You can get better food at the Waffle House, and I hate the Waffle House. I will never go back here and I don't know how it has the ratings it has. Absolutely terrible. read more

Until recently I only had Breakfast and Brunch at Ruth's, however lunch is a delight. I am not a huge fan of soul food but do appreciate a well cooked simple meal. Well folks this place delivers. I opted for the fried catfish with fried okra and macaroni&cheese as sides. The Catfish was one of the best I ever had, cooked to perfection and well seasoned. Come here a fair bit but this time the couple beside us ordered after us and got their food before us. When the lady realized we were a little off about that she went out and came back with our food, it wasn't all that hot as thought it had been sitting for a while. We also opted for the hash brown casserole which we had not heard of before and the waitress recommended it after saying they only do it on Saturdays. Well don't bother I actually think the hash browns themselves are better to get than this casserole. It was OK but it was tiny. This is a great local find. We're visiting our college student at Augusta University and this is worth a repeat. Best service EVER. Everyone makes sure you are taken care of. Loved the food. Desired a breakfadt at 10:45 so the first thought was to go to the local Waffle House. Apparently half of Augusta also had that thought as it was packed. We then remembered Ruth's served breakfast at any time. Joining me on my breakfast quest was my mom and my 7 yo grandson who's main requirement was pancakes. Ruth's isn't a fancy place and not much to see from the outside and on the inside it looks like Mel's from the old Alice tv show. Although it was hopping there was still room. We quickly found a table and ordered two coffees. Grandson was glad to find hot cocoa on the menu. When it arrived he declared it the best he had ever had although I think it was a packet of Swiss Miss. They did add a dollop of whipped cream. Mom ordered scrambled eggs with home fries, corn bedf hash, and toast. I got scrambled eggs, country fried steak, grits and pancakes. They brought 2 so I shared with mom. Grandson got a short stack and bacon. He ate almost everything which is a rarity. All the food was good with only the "home fries" being a miss. They were more like home made potato chips and didn't go well with breakfast. My scrambled eggs were done just right. The grits were well salted. I hate it when chefs are scared to salt grits! My cube steak was covered with white pepper gravy and was just what I wanted! Mom and I both agreed that this breakfast was top tier. Servers kept our cups filled and were quick to clear away the dishes but a bit distracted and busy. All around us others were eating lunch and those plates looked delicious too. Came here for a Saturday breakfast. This place can get packed. It's old school and reminds me of a diner. The food was good, but I didn't see anything different outside of your normal breakfast restaurants. When you come in, it's a bit complicated. There's no waiting area and the cash register is right on top of the door, so it's hard to tell who is waiting for a table and who is trying to pay to leave. But there's not much to do about what since there's no real place to expand that. So just FYI when you come in. Price: cheap. You get a lot for your money here. Service: great service and everyone was friendly. Parking: a little tricky as it's a narrow parking lot with wides entrances so coming in and out is a little cumbersome. read more

During the brunch rush, or possibly any rush, expect at least 30 minutes for your food, even something as simple as breakfast foods. That being said, the breakfast was good and the service was kind-- servers were doing the best they can to accommodate the crowd. I had the Country breakfast which was your choice of meat, eggs, grits or hash browns, and wait for it-- toast or biscuit. I had to get the Country Fried Steak with white gravy and it was crisp on the ends with tender meat inside. Yum! The poached eggs were excellent and were fresh, and the bread was not simply toast-- it was 2 slices of buttered toast sliced in half. This was quite a substantial breakfast already, but there were still hash browns! Mine came out just right, but I tend to prefer a crispier hash-- my boyfriend got that but he had scarfed down his He-Man breakfast before we got to trade! He expressed disappointment since he actually wanted his hash browns to actually be like mine and have a softer, not as crispy center. His were pretty crispy, really. The He-Man breakfast was a little more than a $1 difference, but I think I had the better deal since my meal looked so much larger despite the pancakes for the He-Man. By the way, pancakes were fluffy and delicious! Really a 3.5 stars place because of the long wait, but the food was filling and the service was really trying hard and super friendly to everyone. read more

I pulled up outside and did a doubletake, wondering if I'd be welcome inside. I'm sure glad I decided to enter! I was warmly welcomed by a server and told to sit wherever there was space. This country style family diner was crowded and smelled like granny's kitchen. I ordered the salmon patty breakfast with eggs, hashbrown casserole, and a biscuit. The salmon patty was a bit dry from canned salmon, but was reminiscent of the ones my granny used to make. The casserole was cheesy and yum! The biscuit was bettered by butter and jam. All in all, a great breakfast for $8. I had a bite of pancake too. They were fluffy and delicious! Seating was cramped and the room was loud, but this enhanced the diner experience. As such, our server was delightfully crass. I will definitely return here for breakfast and possibly dinner some time soon...to be immediately followed by a workout. read more

I've eaten here plenty and for some reason, no review. I like Ruth's. My favorite is the breakfast with steak and white gravy. Everything is always cooked to perfection. This place is a local favorite so it can get crowded quick especially at breakfast (they serve it until closing). What's good is they open at 6am so you can get a good breakfast early. They are only open until 230pm and as of recent are closed on Mondays. Ruth's will always be one of my favorites so I'll keep coming back. read more

One of my first breakfast locations in Augusta, I was on my yelp app searching for places to get some pancakes. Ruth's Family Restaurant wasn't too far away and I was soon off to pay these guys a visit. This is a small mom and pop place, but they definitely know how to put some food on your plate. Wanting to get a sample of everything, I tried their He-Man breakfast ($7.65) The He- Man came with: 2 pancakes 3 eggs cooked any style (scrambled) Bacon or 2 sausage patties (got sausage) Grits or hash browns (got hash browns) If it sounds like a lot of food, it IS a lot of food for under 10 bucks. So what did I think? The pancakes were fairly decent in size, and slightly thick. You may need to chase these down with a drink with each bite, or soak them in syrup, whichever your pleasure is. I thought the flavor of them wasn't bad and found them filling. The hashbrowns weren't really what I expected, shredded and fried to a golden brown. I did enjoy these, although they were unseasoned when they arrived. The eggs were scrambled for me, and hate to say it but they were just eggs. Nothing fancy, but with a place like Ruth's, you really don't have to be fancy. Lastly, the sausage patties, sadly, were hard...over cooked, and while the flavor of their sausage wasn't bad, i've had much more flavorful and spicy sausage elsewhere. I'd like these to be better next time. Ruth's is a small restaurant that seems to cater to the locals of Augusta. Customer service is nice, food is cheap, flavors are respectable and you'll leave full. Lunch is also served here but they close at 2:30pm, so no luck for dinner. I thought Ruth's wasn't bad for a stick to your ribs meal, and it definitely did that. If you're looking for a southern breakfast that's more filling than fancy, Ruth's Family Restaurant has you covered. read more

Looking for a quick "mom and pop" style takeout breakfast on our way from Atlanta to NJ and found this little gem on Yelp. It met all of our expectations...the bacon, egg and cheese biscuits were tasty and filling, the home fries were different (cut like wavy lays chips), but good and everything came out very quickly.
