Do not sleep on this place if you're in the Augusta area. My husband, who is a cheesesteak snob, would rake a bite, close his eyes, and just say, "the meat..." It was so juicy, flavorful, with the perfect ratio of cheese to meat. Bun was soft and fresh. These people understand how to make a terrific, tasty cheesesteak and we love them for it! New to town and was excited to try this joint. It was my first visit and last. The super gut buster was more bread than anything. Barely any steak at the last three inches of bread at either end. Flavor was decent, but that's it. Jerk chicken soul rolls had zero flavor, but were saved by the cucumber sauce. A Publix sub has more protein and is ready in half the time and costs less too. Meh... I recently visited this spot while I was out of town picking up something in Georgia. Since I'm dealing with cancer, I decided to try something new - my first Philly Cheese Steak! I chose this place based on the great reviews I found on Yelp. The scenery was amazing, with murals,music,and layout. It gave off such a great vibe. This was an interesting experience. I visited this restaurant with my very white colleague since I was working in the area. There is basically no seating except for 2 outdoor picnic tables with umbrellas. I ordered the small Philly with jerk chicken soul rolls. I chose the cucumber sauce to go with the rolls since it supposedly goes well with the soul rolls. I substituted the american cheese for provolone for 50 cents extra. We sat at one of the picnic tables next to some chatty white family. It turns out my colleague also ordered similar items, but he chose a larger Philly sandwich. Philly - I added banana peppers since they don't have green peppers and they add some type of white sauce to this to make it even creamier. I prefer my Philly with just meat, onions, cheese and peppers, no sauce. It is okay, but pretty cheesy and creamy - 3/5 Homemade fries - the fries are hand cut and really good. Fresh out of the fryer and seasoned with salt and pepper- 4/5 Soul rolls - I ordered the jerk chicken thinking they would be mind blowing. It turns out the more popular flavor are the steak soul rolls. I could barely taste any jerk seasoning on the chicken inside. 3/5 Kool-aid - I chose the mango one, which was good and pretty standard. The one unusual thing is the container they serve it in. My colleague also enjoyed his meal and it was just too much food for him, and he's a big guy. read more

Love to visit what is clearly a well loved community business, and a past Yelp top 100 winner! I came to Jackie M's on a unseasonably warm February day while in town on business, and it was actually my last meal on my way out back to North Carolina. It's a small place with no table seating of any kind, just a few places to sit and wait for your order. That said, no issues finding the place as it is very bright with lots of artwork painted on the building itself. The parking lot fills quickly and they get really busy. Always an excellent sign! I got the steak sauce philly cheese steak "Gutbuster" size which is actually like "medium" because there is a super gut buster size, and then a "Mac-Daddy-Mac". I also got an order of soul rolls because... who could resist? My order was ready in about 15 minutes and the place was really starting to have a line, so I feel fortunate I got there a little early. I wanted to eat it hot, and also not in my rental car, so I actually laid it out picnic style on top of my trunk and dove in. The soul rolls were great. Crispy shells, tasty inside, and served with honestly what might be the best ranch I've tasted. Yum! The cheesesteak on the other hand, I was a little disappointed in. The meat and cheese combo was nice, but I think the bread was dragging it down a little. It was chewy, and overpowered some of the sandwich flavor, which I didn't expect. If the bread were more fluffy and light, I think it might have made a different impression. It also could just be my personal taste, as the 5-star rating after so many review can't lie! All that said, a place with this kind of local lore and legend is a place anyone visiting should make a priority stop to form their own opinion. The real magic is in the hot sandwich being served wrapped in tinfoil, which lets that cheesiness melt into a liquefied mess. We though since we made it there well before lunch that we did not need to call ahead. Even at 11:30am, I would still suggest it. We didn't mind waiting, but I thought the 45 minutes quoted for 2 sandwiches at a place that specializes in them, was a bit much. We did enjoy a delicious lunch about 35-40 minutes later - and throughout our wait we saw car after car pop by for pick-up. The fries were good - but this ranch sauce stuff was insanely good. I am not sure what they put in it - or even what it is to tell you to ask for, but you should figure out how to ask for extra. Wow!! A Philly cheesesteak done right in Augusta, Georgia! Growing up in Delaware, we always had ours on Amoroso rolls with fried onions, crushed cherry peppers and ketchup. What a surprise to have a conversation with someone who knew what an Amoroso roll was AND had cherry peppers. NO green bell peppers on this sandwich! The fries were delicious and appeared to be hand cut. We also tried the soul rolls. My husband likes jerk seasoning, so we went with the chicken jerk rolls even though I am not a fan of jerk. I visited this place based upon all of the positive reviews but I now realize that I didn't read the reviews closely. This place is 15 to 20 minutes outside of the downtown Augusta area. It feels like it's in the middle of nowhere as you get closer to the location. When I first arrived I was surprised to see a small building and a dirt and gravel parking lot. When I approached the blue tent ordering area, I found out there are no restrooms and no dining room. Being that I had to use the restroom, I had to leave, drive around 5 minutes to the nearest gas station, and then drive back to the restaurant. It appears as though people drive from all over the city to pick up a sandwich to go. I saw a few customers eating their food in their cars. I waited around 15 minutes to get my food. There were close to 10 other people waiting for their food. The sandwiches are wrapped in a foil looking paper and placed in a simple brown bag. After I received my food I stood in the parking lot by my car and ate my sandwich. The food is definitely the highlight of the entire experience. The bread tasted soft and fresh. There was a decent amount of meat and cheese which were completely melted together. So, yes, it is one of the best tasting cheesesteak sandwiches I've had. This place was a 4 1/2 stars for me, but it gets rounded up for the truly pleasant interaction and overall scrumptious food. I haven't been to Philly but have a place in san Antonio that regularly makes the yelp top 100, so I wanted to see how Jackie Ms was. I ordered the original philly cheese steak with white cheese and grilled peppers. Overall I felt it was decent. The meat portions were acceptable with some charred bits for added texture.
