I took my prom dress to Ruth's to be altered and she completely messed up my dress. The only thing she did right was the hem. She made the arm holes so small that I couldn't fit my arms through them. This caused her to have to cut my dress so much that it was only mesh on top instead of finished arm holes and neckline with cloth. I had to come back for several fittings before it was fixed to the point that I could wear it, but I still wasn't happy with it. It was an expensive dress that she ruined and still charged me over $100 to alter. Never going back. read more

Got a quote through Yelp to have my bridesmaid dress hemmed (was able to send them a photo). They quoted me about $50 but possibly an additional $25 or more if the layers were thick. When I tried the dress on for Ruth with my shoes, she told me it would be $75 and ready in 2 weeks. Other places quoted me $75-$85 so it seemed fair. I picked up my dress today and the hem was perfect. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the room where I tried my dress on both times could've been a little neater and cleaner, and the employees could be a little more cheerful (although they weren't rude or anything). read more

I took a pair of men's pants to this establishment for alterations. It took 3 weeks for the work to be done. When I got them back, the minor alterations (just a hem in the pants) appeared as if it was performed by a 3rd grader. Every stitch was visible from the outside of the pants. I have had alterations performed elsewhere many times in the past and this was by far the shoddiest workmanship to date. I had to have the job redone elsewhere. I am only giving them 2 stars because they didn't charge rates that were unreasonable, even if the quality of the work was. read more

We went to Ruth for alterations to my daughter's wedding dress, after seeing her as a recommended vendor on a bridal website. My daughter had a vision of how she wanted her dress to look and fit which required several different alterations, and Ruth made that happen. We had appts. every other week over an 8-week period (due to unexpected weight loss). Ruth was always patient, professional and positive that the vision would happen. And Ruth delivered! The guests and people who have seen pictures always comment how that dress was made for her, and fit her like a glove. She was GORGEOUS and THRILLED. And all for a reasonable price! I had a terrible experience with Ruth. I took my dress to her for my wedding for alterations and to add sleeves. She was so incredibly unprofessional. I had an excessive amount of fittings because (and she even admitted this to me) that she only had time to work on my gown right before I walked in for my appointments. When I went to go pick up my dress for my final fitting, it wasn't ready. She said she was too busy to work on it and its not her fault that she had other bridal gowns to work on. I went back 2 days before my wedding to pick up my gown and she still hadn't finished it. When I broke down and started crying, she just kept repeating it wasn't her fault that she was too busy. I finally got my dress and during my wedding I kept tripping because it was still way too long. She didn't pin it for the hem, she was "too busy". Please DO NOT take your wedding gown, or anything important for that matter to Ruth. I wish I would have known this as it would have saved me a lot of stress and heartache. read more

I searched and searched for a seamstress to alter my wedding dress. I had been told when I purchased the dress that it fit me perfectly, so I went in thinking I needed just a bustle & some bust work. I found Ruth's Sewing Room online & saw that she stated she specialized in formalwear. That was DEFINITELY my selling point. We met with her & tried on our gowns. The shop is small, but it's really nice how it's set up & she provided a nice large changing room in the back. We changed into our gowns. She came in & immediately worked up my bustle with pins. You could tell she was knowledgable when she got it on the first try! She then stated that I needed some bust work make it lay flat. Other than that...she said the dress was perfect. I didn't feel like she was trying to find things to "tweak" or alter to make more money, which was a nice feeling. She also suggested alterations for my mom's gown, & they were exactly what we expected. At our 2nd fitting (exactly one week to the day), my bustle was complete & my bust work was complete all but the final seams so she could be sure it fit me. My mom's work was done, except the hem since she had taken in the waist/bust area, she wanted to be sure it hadn't affected the hem. Our dresses are PERFECT. I cannot speak highly enough about this business. She was polite & courteous, professional & made you feel like you were her only customer. Her knowledge & skill also shown through. I highly recommend her business for any of your alteration needs, especially wedding/bridesmaid dresses. This has been completely stress free!!! read more

Had such an amazing experience with them. Earlier this summer my one and only sister got married and I was her maid of honor. I bought my dress from David Bridals, where the sales associate took my measurements and told me which size dress to order to ensure it could fit me. I told her I would rather it be too big then too small as it is always easier to take in a dress than to somehow magically add fabric to it. Since I am so short (5'2") and have an extremely large chest area, I knew it would never fit exactly the way it was and so I asked the lady to ensure the dress size she recommended would fit my chest an the rest could easily be taken care of. Needless to say when I got the dress, I couldn't zip it up. I needed a few inches to go so it was by no means anywhere close. After finding Ruth's online, I immediately set up an appointment with her. Everyone who worked there was so polite and nice and very professional. Ruth did an amazing job and calming my panic attack and working with me to ensure my dress would fit. I cam back 2 more times throughout the process to ensure they were on the right track and that I approved of the changes they had made so far, which I really appreciated. By the end of it all my dress fit perfectly, and it actually cost me less than the estimate I was given! Ruth was able to shorten two hems on the bottom of the dress and widen the chest area enough for it to zip up all within a decent time frame. Can not say enough good things about these ladies! If you are ever in need of any alterations I would highly recommend them. read more

I had an AWFUL experience there. I was charged $130 for alterations on a bridesmaid dress. When I went to my scheduled pick up time, I sat there while they completed my alterations for 30 minutes. My appointment was at 9am when they open so they knew the night before my dress wasn't ready, but yet they didn't call to reschedule my appointment. When I expressed my annoyance and frustration Ruth told me that "They're busy" "Sometimes things take longer than they think." etc. I said they should have called and she just repeated the excuses. Then she said, "This actually happens a lot." ARE YOU SERIOUS? Not a good way to run a business. I said it is ridiculous to charge that kind of money and not even have items ready. She didn't really seem to care. When I told her I'd never be back, she replied, "That's fine." read more
