Be very specific in your wants - as well as the price; I was told "your coverages are the same," which I took to mean the global "same" meaning what I wanted outside of coverage, like manditory on-line billing (which I don't do) and even though there is a great discount for this, I don't want it, I want a paperbill - so, Nancy called the company rep and they said it was too late to change it. So Nancy promised to contact me in September to remind me of the charge; then we can change it back to paper. So, even though my contact there has left and follow-ups like returning calls and checking emails remain somewhat of a challenge there was a significant premium savings by switching, it makes me wish I would have trusted less and had them (the agency) show me options every year "(trust but verify, Ronald Reagan")! Your agent works for you. So I support this agency, but do your due diligence and shop the policies and service expectations should be high, you pay enough for it.

Two-years later I returned after several revelations: #1 - While slightly more expensive State Farm covers me for more things on my home and auto than my former provider. They have a few built in riders for personal items and things that my other provider wanted a lot of money to insure. They also offer innovative services I have not found elsewhere in my searching. #2 - They want to know me, my family, my goals and dreams and to do their best to protect that which I care about. My former provider had no relationship with me, had not not even taken the time to meet and get to know me. Because of that they allowed my policy to expire without so much as a call. By chance I realized that my insurance had lapsed and needed to get it fixed. My last company made me refill our paper work and submit documents and left me feeling that I was a new customer, and not valued at all. I can tell you from my previous experience Ryan Smeader State Farm won't let that happen. #3 - Great and wonderful staff. I worked with Christy and she was absolutely fantastic. Aside from her knowledge and thoroughness in her explanations, I found her to be extremely patient, competent and caring about my questions. She was not going to let me sign until we had exhausted all angles and questions of my policy and I love that. I need people in my life who are in my corner and honest/straightforward about what I am getting into. My previous providers documents were complicated, hard to understand and clearly written entirely by lawyers. It was not super clear at all angles what I was and was to covered for. While money is a critical component to every financial decision, getting the best coverage and support is even more important. I realize now looking back I let my short term thinking dictate my pocketbook decisions instead of realizing that Ryan Smeader State Farm was always going to have my back no matter what.
