Supposedly my step dad is writing a book about Bootlegging in the Delta during the 1920's and this was the place he sought inspiration. He was not disappointed and I see why. The previous owner discovered a hidden room, and what could it have been? A speakeasy of course. I guess this little place in the middle of nowhere was a destination for Hollywood movie stars looking to get their drink on. The speakeasy has since been restored, and used for dinning I think. I have yet to use it. The art deco isn't very authentic, but the atmosphere is unique, the rooms were very clean and the service was friendly. Plus it makes a really nice drive. They also have a fabulous brunch on Sundays (see their website for pictures of food). A little pricey but they do not disappoint. It's a great weekend get away. The town of Ryde, population 30, goes by in the blink of an eye, but I always noticed the hotel marked with tall palm trees. Just start looking for the trees when you pass Poverty Road. DO NOT STAY OVERNIGHT AT THE RYDE HOTEL.**Included 4 photos!!** It looks like most of the positive reviews for Ryde are for their brunch which I cannot speak to except to say that the food was out when we arrived on Sunday and there were plenty of flies sharing the meal. My husband and I stayed at Ryde for a wedding on the Sunday evening of Memorial Day Weekend. There was no one at the front desk when we arrived and we just stood around for 10 minutes waiting for someone to greet us. The man working the front desk was actually in the bar having a beer. When he realized we were there, he put down his drink and came to give us our key. In general, the hotel is just severely run down, filled with old mismatched, low quality furniture, old blinds in the windows, chipping paint etc. The carpets in the entire hotel are filthy and look like they haven't been cleaned or vacuumed in weeks. We arrived early to spend time by the pool. However, when we arrived poolside, we discovered that the pool was green and full of algae. We ended up drinking wine on the dock across the street instead. THE ROOM: Where to begin? We booked the 2 room suite which was really a VERY small room with an old queen size bed connected to another room with a twin bed by a Jack & Jill bathroom. The "suite" was DIRTY and run down and still ran over $100 a night. Here were our issues w/the accommodations: --We found several big, black hairs in the bed, gross (I'm blonde and my husband is bald so definitely not ours) --We also found several big, black hairs and a bunch of small ones (like someone had shaved) in the shower --A shower window that had been spray foamed shut --I think their pipes might be rusting because the water tasted and smelled like rusty metal. And I mean ALL of the water, the water when you brushed your teeth, in the shower AND the water that was served at the table during the wedding --There was old vomit at the bottom of the toilet that hadn't been cleaned --The window in our 3rd story room opened all the way and had no screen --The bed was old and we sunk into the middle when we both slept in it --The ceiling fan was barely hanging onto the ceiling in the room where we slept and the light didn't work on the fan in the other room --No irons or ironing boards --No blow dryer --OLD towels --Stained sheets --Cracked ceilings --Chipping paint --The rooms have no phones so if you need something from the front desk, you have to go down 3 flights of stairs to ask (that's IF there's someone actually there to help you) Overall, it was just a gross hotel and we left ASAP the morning after the wedding. We have backpacked internationally and the Ryde was dirtier than any hostel either of us ever stayed in abroad. Not only do we not recommend this hotel--we encourage you to stay away!!! Came here for the first time a week ago. The staff was wonderful, the garden area where they seated us for brunch was very nice and green as well as breezy. They were extremely generous with the bottomless mimosas and the food was tastefully presented and flavorful. We just made reservations again for tomorrow and hope to make this a regular outing. Have I been to more beautiful locations, yes; have I had better food, definitely; was the service impeccable and without fault, no. However this is a wonderful place with wonderful staff right on the river where I plan to frequent and support as much as possible. read more

I hate to write negative yelp reviews but this place really needs to take heed. I was actually sad when I left realizing that I would never go back. I used to come here a few years ago by boat for the Sunday brunch and it was awesome with a carving station, omelets made in front of you and a lovely selection of buffet items that were fresh and replenished frequently. It was lively and vibrant and always made for a special Sunday. Today, not so much. It was mostly empty when we arrived and I can see why. The first thing I noticed was a table with three dishes: a wilted salad, some crumbs of broccoli, and about 20 pre-cooked defrosted shrimp left (that was the "Fresh Seafood Selection", lol). On to the buffet table where most of the hot food was cold, the potatoes tasteless and overcooked, no cheese or waffles, and a few slices of some kind of thickly sliced, dry and chewy, mystery meat...yeah, no carving station. When I complained that the scrambled eggs (which had obviously been out for quite a while) were cold, the server said they make omelets and took my order. The omelet came out sitting in a soup of uncooked egg. I ate most of it anyway because it was hot and I was hungry. The desert table consisted of a bowl of cream puffs, several plastic cups full of tapioca pudding and about five slices of some kind of pie. The servers want to please but it was obvious that some were multi-tasking and it bothered me that they were dressed in black sweatpants and T-shirts. It looked so sloppy when you are paying almost $30 for breakfast. I apologized to my friend for the food and took her downstairs and outside to show off the rest of the place. The downstairs ballroom looked great! We walked out to the back and it was again very sad. The pool was a swamp and the grounds have not been well tended at all. Some peacocks were hanging around near the pool which made the juxtaposition of elegance and decay all the more tragic. The building itself is in much need of care, needing a paint job and updating inside. All in all, it felt tired and worn. In the end, it was just very sad to see such a beautiful place, in such a lovely spot that has so much potential, fall so very far from grace. :-( read more

The buffet included everything you could imagine, including eggs Benedict, fresh fruit, and the best bacon I've had in a long time. Don't believe a word of their website. It's all fake news. The place is severely run down. The Mother's Day brunch was a joke. Like literally a joke. The table was half set for our group of 16. Napkins were thrown on table with no intention. Half the table lacked one or more of cutlery, water glasses or champagne glasses. Zero service. Buffet food was and mostly not freshly prepared. I don't know what goes on there, but this is not a legit business. Shady. The food was absolutely scary and was not up to par for human consumption. After researching health inspection records I have zero clue why they haven't been shut down. The notes from inspection were alarming and I am perplexed how they were given a GREEN pass. Don't trust those health inspection sheets you see in windows. Cause this makes ZERO sense to me. read more

Thanks goodness for the great company! Because that's what Mothers Day is about. However... This was by far THE WORST buffet I have ever experienced. From having to hunt down someone to get us seated to having not one but three mimosas over poured to spilling all over the tablecloths requiring them to be changed. The general manager who made this mess did not apologize or even bother to offer to correct it. I had to find someone else to do this for us. It took them twenty minutes just to get things settled so we could sit down again. This was the most unorganized eating experience ever. The food was cold and flavorless. Most of it I didn't bother with more than one bite. All of the desserts were clearly store bought and had been sitting out forever. For $32 per person one should darn well get what they pay for. This place was just terrible. I truly think that an inspector should stroll through this place - they need a wake up call! There was one exception to this terrible experience. They have a young man on staff named Cameron who seemed to have it together. He spoke to us in a professional manner and did what he could to make things more pleasant for our table. He didn't have much to work with except his personality and professionalism. I hope that he finds a great place to put his skills to use as he has the ability to shine even during a dark storm. My wife and I went for brunch yesterday, talk about somewhere that has gone downhill!. The omelet bar has been replaced by a pan of dried out scrambled eggs and the carving station is now a Chuck roast thickly sliced in a covered serving tray. So after a disappointing birthday brunch we were headed out the front door, take a left down the steps and my wife steps right in a hole and rolls her ankle. If your going to have a walk way you should at least keep it in a condition that the ladies don't twist an ankle because they are wearing heels. We had an AMAZING brunch with friends a couple of years ago and had raved about it to many friends. We loved the quality of food on the buffet along with the omelet station and the make to order menu. Not today! We drove an hour to take friends to the Ryde Hotel for brunch to celebrate...IT WAS AWFUL!!!! The food on the buffet was bad at best...no omelet station...no make to order menu. We spent $143 and walked away extremely disappointed. We will not be returning to this place that we once thought were amazing. read more

The hotel is a historical gem that needs some polishing, yes, but consider the whole package. I brought 6 folks with me and I'll be back again with another group. We got married at the Ryde on Sunday, October 2nd, and the day was absolutely everything we hoped it would be. Our wedding was relatively small, with just over 30 guests, so we had a brunch reception. Our ceremony was outside at the gazebo, and our reception was in the private dining room, just off the main upstairs dining room. The ceremony space was lovely, as it has been every time we visited over the past year. The grass was green. The trees were still flowering pink, even in early October. The sun was shining, which is obviously not under the Ryde's control, but my point is, it was beautiful. The white wooden chairs were placed exactly as I had instructed. Everything met my expectations 100%. We took group photos at the gazebo, under the large oak tree, and down at the Ryde's private dock. The dock is a little rickety, but the pictures turned out amazing. The lazy Sacramento river is a beautiful backdrop to formal photos, and taking advantage of the Ryde's private dock for photos really helped us capture the delta's charm and why we chose that spot for our most special day. We joined our guests in the private dining room for our reception, and the tables were arranged exactly as I had instructed. Though I never asked for sure, I think the Ryde refreshed the brunch buffet just in time for our wedding guests to eat because everything tasted fresher than we have ever experienced before. And, I don't think it was just the overwhelming wedding joy clouding our judgement about this. Our wedding guests all complimented the food. The service was outstanding. We had a dedicated server for our party, and the bottomless champagne and mimosas were, in fact, bottomless. They took care of cutting the cake, wrapping up the leftovers, and all the clean up, and they did all that for the simple price of feeding each guest. Because the Ryde does Sunday brunch every week, there was no special set up fee, room reservation fee, catering fee, etc. There was a 30-person minimum for the separate dining room, but the cost was only the per plate (plus tax and gratuity, of course) cost for each guest. Overall, it was a very affordable way to have a small wedding, and we would recommend the Ryde to any couple considering a small wedding. (They have capacity for big weddings too, so don't let my small wedding recommendation turn you off if you are looking for a big wedding venue.) The history and location of the hotel is cool. The banquet area for weddings or special events is nice as well but the rooms are beat. Our room was a queen suite on the second floor (rm 206, I think) and the cold water handle for the bath tub fell off, it was all ready broken. The bath floor mat had a big hole in it. The window screen on one of the windows was bent. However the bed was comfortable! It is the delta by the way, everything is beat up down there. read more

Came for Mother's Day brunch after trying other places the last few years. NOTHING like our previous times. Service was the absolute worst! The middle aged waitress with the dark rimmed glasses should not be working with people. She was incredibly rude about everything from seating to WATER! We had to ask 4 times before someone else brought the water to us. The food had been sitting out far too long between them refreshing it or refilling what was empty (buffet style). To top it off, 2 of our party had stomach issues a couple hours later. They might be ok on a less popular day but don't bother for a special occasion; they will ruin it for you. read more

I always thought that the Ryde Hotel had a really cool feel to it. I'd drive by every few weeks after visiting family in the Bay Area and I always thought that it would be a cool place to visit. So when planning for my wedding and I saw that this was a venue, I jumped at the chance to look into it. As it turns out, my instincts were right on. This place IS really cool. I enjoyed a meal here when we were looking into the place, and I was impressed by the quality of the food, as well as the flavors. The red wine reduction served with their filet was extremely flavorful. It's one of those tastes that really pops, and it complimented the tender steak nicely. The salad served with it was also quite nice with a light and fruity dressing and candied walnuts. After our meal, we looked at the downstairs area where they hold their larger wedding receptions. It was right around then that we were sold. The place is beautiful. The bar in particular is impressive. I'm not a drinker at all, but it really helped to add to the feel of the place. It's got a bit of a retro feel that is echoed in the rest of the hotel. I believe it's an art deco style, but honestly, I wouldn't know for sure. Whatever it was, I loved it. Flash forward to June of 2012. The staff there made sure that everything went of without an issue. The ceremony site was beautiful and well-maintained with plenty of flowers and a nice gazebo. Lots of places for pictures in and around the hotel too. The food was great, and the reception area was as amazing as it felt like it would be. They have a great stage and dance floor, so once things got rolling, there was plenty of space for folks to do their thing. My one warning to folks is that the place can be hot. The rooms were a little stifling, and though there are fans everywhere, I don't believe the rooms have AC. Earlier in the day it was a little rough, but by the time the wedding rolled around, all was well. But still, be prepared! I cannot speak highly enough about the Ryde Hotel. It's a lovely place to have a meal, and as a wedding venue, it shines. I highly recommend it for either or both. read more

My experience today = a disappointment and an embarrassment for myself, my fiancé and my Mother. The "brunch" and I say that sarcastically was a joke. The hot food was cold, salads were limp and not at a temperature that would be acceptable to the health department. I am a vegetarian and found it hard to find anything to eat other than fruit and muffins that was remotely safe on the eyes to try. The desserts were close to the front door and all looked like they had been out since 8:00am, probably when they were purchased from a local store. This used to be a hotel with class and style, sad to see that it has become anything other than the memories it once had. I will not take your time re-iterating the negative hotel reviews people have already posted other than a brief to suggest you read them. This place is a seedy, dirty rat hole. Worst of all was the 113F day and our room was 105F until almost midnight or one. No air conditioning just a room fan and cold shower. We did ask if they had air conditioning prior to booking our room and they said they did. That means an open window, portable fan and cold wash cloths. I am sure a building inspector would condemn the place and I think if for some crazy reason if you decide to stay their you will agree! I understand the restaurant has a magnificent brunch but after our hotel and room experience our party of five decided to cancel and eat elsewhere as we were afraid we might find asbestos laden plaster chunks from the deteriorating walls and ceilings in our eggs Benedict. Run Forest Gump Run as Fast as you can and as far away from this place as possible.!!! read more

My family and I were visiting Locke and came upon the Ryde Hotel. Luckily it was a Sunday and we were in time for brunch! We obviously didn't have reservations but they were able to fit us in right away. The food was great, and even though the brunch came with champagne or mimosa, I opted for a Bloody Mary which was pretty darn good. I took one star off because there were flies all over some of the exposed food like the shrimp cocktail...not very appetizing. I informed one of the guys bringing out more food and he said it was just a side effect of where they were located. Would be great if they paved the drive down to the parking lot and up. BEWARE! This was the absolute worst hotel. Turn away quickly, don't get caught up in the hype about this hotel because that was only many years ago. The new management has run down this hotel very quickly! Upon our arrival, the lobby smelled like cat piss. Disgusting! Then, there was no elevator, and our room was on the third floor. When entering the room, it was hot, and moldy smelling. The room was extremely tiny, and we found fleas in the bed. We changed rooms and got more of the same nastiness, as our shower was filthy, there were holes in the walls, and the plaster was falling off the walls and ceilings. Their air conditioning was a fan only. Anyone for a cold shower?! No hot water and no water pressure!!! Then our toilet didn't work, so we had to use the one down the hall on the other side of the building. Changed rooms again to the 2nd floor since many people had already checked out and finding what their rooms looked like. This last room was again very disgusting with bees, spiders, crickets, ants, roaches, fleas.....I guarantee the health inspector is going to hear about this. We didn't sleep all night, and then left before brunch as we feared their kitchen may have been just as dirty, and we didn't want to trust the plaster from the ceiling falling into any of the food. FYI: There are no TVs or Phones in the rooms. And don't believe those nice pictures you see on the web because the rooms do NOT look like that. read more

We arrived for Sunday brunch. The Ryde Hotel serves all-on-can-eat BBQ brunch in the summer. The outdoor ambiance was delightful. The staff and setting was excellently setup with Covid social distancing precautions. The issue is the food. All 3 BBQ meats: chicken, beef and pork were dry, no smokiness, and flavor was bad. We found the desserts tasteless, moreso, store bought with chemical flavors. We barely got through first serving, did not return for seconds. read more

I was there this past weekend for my best friends wedding. I knew going into this that it wasn't going to be the Hyatt, so I took all the reviews with a grain of salt. First off: The staff (Especially Dean) was more than helpful in every situation! As a wedding venue, it was so nice. Had room reservations for this past weekend. No, air conditioning, no elevator, dirty hallways, room was horrible, no screens in windows, 105 outside, room on third floor probably 110! The worst part was the disgusting filthy scummy bathtub and shower head. No way could I even pull covers back to see if any bugs existed in it, we left,. They did give money back, no questions asked as they probably had many complaints already. The health department needs to get involved. Yuk! read more

A great historical building. I love the Great Gatsby Vibes I get from the place every time I go there. The BBQ is just amazing and the Sunday Bruch delicious. Love going on the Dock to enjoy the peace and the beauty the place has to offer. Definitely would recommend and you get to see free roaming peacocks around the building. read more

We made reservations for Fathers Day brunch. It was the biggest mistake we have ever made. The brunch consisted of frozen food and macaroni and cheese from the box the rest was mediocre at best. Dinner at the Ryde is worth a 30 minute drive from Sacramento. Heck, it's less than ten minutes for us which makes it a great option. Embarassed to say that even Delta locals often forget that the Ryde is a great dining option. Sure, sitting outside in the summer, or attending an event out back in nice weather makes for the best Ryde experience, but a Saturday night dinner or Sunday brunch is pretty darn good. The owners are a big part of the experience too. Met Cathy recently, but have know her business partner Jan for a few years. Both are nice people and are genuinely happy to talk to guests. Food was very good (we are three foodies who have fairly high expectations). Menu is limited (pre fixe). This used to be my favorite venue for Mother's Day Brunch. I was bragging all week how I was going to have this fabulous meal at this gourgous place in Walnut Grove. I even saved enough money to bring along my daughters as it is usually my mom and sisters time together in the a.m. To my surprise the Hotel is under construction outside in garden where we chose to eat. Guys were hamming and sawing, yes on Mother's Day! There was garbage blown up against the shrubs. Plus they were not even ready for guests to arrive. Tables were not set, staff seemed as if they were scrambling and our reservation was at 10:30. When we went to the food area it was kind of a mess. Like it was thrown together last minute. I am caterer and I know what that looks like. The staff was great, but not the professional type we are used to there. They were wearing t-shirts and jeans. All black but not formal. We will probably not be back, which is unfortunate as I drive all the way down from Newcastle. read more

When we decided to get married we had many choices to make but one choice that we didn't need to make was the location. We instantly knew that we wanted to get married at The Ryde Hotel. We met with the manager and began working out the details and we quickly knew that we had made the right decision. As with many things in life our plans did not go without a few problems but Dean and his staff turned our pot holes into small bumps in the road that were hardly felt. With every curve we threw at them, they handled them with grace and excellence. For instance when we arrived several hours early for our rehersal dinner our bartender Greg took it upon himself to insure that our group was taken care of (including lunch) while Dean and his staff were busy taking care of the behind the scenes details. If you looked around you would insist that there must be a staff of 50 people taking care of everything. But if you looked carefully you would see that there were many less highly motivated and very deticated people doing what ever needed to be done to insure our special day was just that, special. Our rehersal dinnner for 25 went off without a hitch and the food was excellent. We then retired to the bar where we kept the staff busy until closing time. On the day of our wedding the only issue we had was that there was nothing for us to do, again Dean and his staff had the situation well under control. No matter what happened during the day they took care of it and we never saw any sign of a problem or concern, even when we filled all the rooms in the hotel with our family and friends, again not a problem. The wedding was a smashing success, the back area around the gazebo was beautiful, the speak easy was amazing and the dinner was fanstatic. We could not have asked for anything more. We would like to thank Dean and his staff at The Ryde Hotel for all they did to make our weekend as wonderful as it could be. They went above and beyond anything that we could have asked for and did it with a smile. They never told us I can't, they only told us it's done. For anyone who is considering getting married we highly recommend that you take the time to visit Dean and his staff at The Ryde before you make your final choice. For if you do The Ryde will be your final choice and this will be a decision you will be happy that you made. On a recent rainy night, we were welcomed like family to the Ryde Hotel. All of the staff went out of their way to accommodate us, making us a late (and delicious) dinner, helping us with our searches for the Sandhill Cranes the next morning... acting like friends instead of staff. The history, the location, the future of the Ryde Hotel are all interesting, dynamic and full of surprises. It's especially lovely to find a destination in the midst of farmland, waterways and islands that is so welcoming to "family." And it is only 46 miles from Oakland...less than an hour. We were treated with such a quality of kindness and respect; we will definitely come back to the Ryde Hotel. Since it is near Pear Orchards, there was a slight sulphur smell to the tapwater AND they are working on the serious filtration system that is in place. I imagine the situation was temporary. read more

Thank goodness we didn't stay here. Came for a friend's wedding, which was absolutely beautiful. The back of the hotel where the wedding took place, gorgeous. The inside of the hotel, no so nice. I get that they want to preserve the vintage style, but there's a fine line between keeping it vintage and keeping it clean. The carpeting could use some major steam cleaning, the rooms are covered in cobwebs, the bathrooms are dirty, the shower looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks, the shower curtains had mold on them. It seemed like no vacuuming had been done in months. A fellow bridesmaid's shower was throwing out sewer water. The manager tried to use the excuse that the leaves from the trees muddled up the swimming pool water...no it just hasn't been cleaned in months. Then she tried telling us that the running water from the showers smelled because it was well water. Yeah right! My great grandmother had a well and her water was crystal clear. Needless to say, I canceled my reservation for both night. I would sleep there. Sorry, it was just plain disgusting. read more

Went to the Sunday Brunch party of 9. The buffet was very good, although the beef was too well done for me. Everything else was fresh and tasty. One of my favorite Delta River Destinations. Great place to meet a friend for a drink or brunch or dinner. The bar tender aims to please I might add. And yes, in the 20's it was a "Speak Easy" complete with a window with a sliding wooden door to see who was on the other side. We used to go here in the 70's for dancing and drinking(My college crazy days-long gone!) It's still a great place to visit for lunch, brunch or dinner...a Delta Get-a-Way.
