Bring your big boy or big girl belly! This place is delicious and filling... Savory meets satisfying meets walking down to beach after to take a nap! I love their potato options and latkes. All the food is exactly what you'd crave from a homemade breakfast made by the world's best grandma. I have no idea if that's who cooking or whose recipes are used, but it tastes that way if know what I mean. Kitschy fun environment, humorous and friendly staff. Right on the 101, one of the best breakfast / brunch stops in OSide. Indoor/outdoor seating and usually doesn't take too long to grab a table. *UPDATE went back for breakfast this morning, and this is definitely the new breakfast spot! The Bloody Mary was good, and the Pastrami Hash is the best I've ever had! The potatoes were cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the Pastrami was on point! My eggs were a little overcooked, but I didn't even mind because everything else was so flavorful. My husband ordered the benedict and after trying mine he regretted it! Highly recommend Ryes and Grind! This place is such a cute hole in the wall. We stopped in for lunch on a Monday and it wasn't packed. Our server immediately acknowledged us and took our drink order. We didn't know prior to choosing to eat here that it is a Jewish inspired deli. They make all their bread in house, and the pickles they bring out to snack on before your meal arrives are also made in house and delicious! We ordered the Reuben and Brisket sandwich! Both were amazing and the portions were huge! Our server Brigitte was so helpful and attentive throughout the meal. They are not open 7 days a week yet as they are still on the newer side. Have visited on 3 occasions. The food is great - generous portions and very flavourful. We've tired a selection of their breakfast offerings, all of which we've enjoyed. Food is fresh and they use quality ingredients and make their bagels ans rye bread in house On the other-hand, the coffee is somewhat lacklustre. We've tried a couple of their speciality coffee options and basic ones and have been disappointed. Twice the coffee has been served lukewarm, and their speciality coffees are overly sweet and all very similar in taste. The service is ok and a little hit or miss - some of their servers are great, others are obviously not meant for the food service industry. We'll be back for the food, and hoping their service and coffee improve with time. read more

HANDOWN THE BEST BREAKFAST IN OCEANSIDE!! Me and my husband have brunch dates every Sunday and it's been difficult to find a consistent good place. This place is literally the best breakfast we've had yet since living on base. I got the pastrami Benedict. It was amazing I couldn't believe how flavorful it was. my husband got the pastrami sandwich which was even better. The mazo ball soup was delicious!! Our server was very helpful and nice. I don't remember her name but she had short black hair. This is going to be our go to spot. It was as even nice to see either the main cook or the owner come out and greet people. 10/10 I'm telling all my friends about this place!! read more

Went there the 6th of July. A busy day and they appeared short-staffed because of the holiday weekend. Understandable, but... service was disorganized and very slow and the restaurant did not appear clean. Lots of shortcuts in evidence. We saw one guy who might have also been a cook busing tables , which is fine, but he decided to dump the liquid from the leftover glasses in the bushes. Not once, but again and again. An open kitchen is great, but it let us see the cook taste the sauce and put the spoon back in. I ordered and eventually received a latte, which was OK, but there was uncleaned lipstick on the mug from the previous user. I admit that I wanted the latte and the odds of getting a replacement soon were low, so I wiped off the lipstick and drank it anyway :) After all that... the food wasn't that great. I had the Monte Cristo and the bread used was OK but it was more of a sandwich rather than the usually gloriously battered and fried creation it is supposed to be. Oddly, the jam was placed inside the sandwich. We also had the eggs benedict - cold when served, and the potato pancakes were thick and not good of their kind. Maybe we got the wrong items, but all together I would say this is a miss until they clean up their act. read more

We'd been here before and loved it so I'm not sure if this was an off day but it really wasn't good. We got seated and then just kind of left, we didn't get menus for awhile till I had to get up and ask and then didn't get a server till after 10 mins of waiting. Took 15 mins to get water. Then waited 40 minutes for food only for 3/4 of the food to come out cold or at best like warm. Including items which probably don't take long like soup. The latka was so burnt it was near impossible to cut through. Overall food quality wise it was a 2/10. I would have asked for them to remake it but it took 40 mins to get sub par barely warm food I didn't want to wait another 40 mins for it to be remade. It wasn't that busy so I'm not sure what happened. The server was nice which is why I gave them a star because she was kind but definitely a disappointment food wise. Also, the menu showed different prices for multiple items than what were listed on the receipt. It was minor differences but still it could have been mentioned ahead of time. read more

If you are driving from Los Angeles or Orange County to San Diego, this is a great midway stop for lunch or breakfast. This is a "modern" deli. Like Wexler's in Santa Monica and Wise Son's in Culver City and Northern California, Rye & Grind has an abbreviated deli menu and includes some classics. In common, young men trying to create up to date versions of classic Jewish delis. Smaller restaurants and smaller menus. Most important to all of these places, the meat is very good. Rye & Grind has one thing very special. All baked items are prepared in house. Breads, bagels and desserts. Of greatest interest to me, the rye. After all, I'm here for the pastrami. The Ryebread is outstanding, but not traditional Jewish rye. So I had quite a dilemma. The pastrami was very good and the Ryebread was excellent. In fact, this Ryebread would be great with just butter or plain or anything. However, I would still prefer traditional Jewish rye for my pastrami sandwich. That said, I will order this pastrami sandwich on this Ryebread again. Owner/chef Daniel Pundik was kind enough to come out of the kitchen and talk with us for a while. He seems like a terrific guy, and a very hard worker like the other young men we have met at these modern delis. All of them, seemingly trying to re-create the food they fell in love with, as cooked by their grandmothers. I I can appreciate that, as it was my Bubby that introduced me to all of the Jewish delicacies, cooked in her kitchen. So this is not Langer's or Cantor's or Brent's or Milton's or the big deli with a giant menu that you grew up going to in whatever city. But if we are lucky, we will see more of these places, as the larger delis have found it harder and harder to stay in business. To all of the alta cockers out there, I urge you to try to embrace the change. If you do not, we stand to lose what little we have left. read more

We love LTH and were really looking forward to checking this place out since their menu looked so tasty. Overall we were pretty satisfied with the food and the service just needs a bit of work, but that's to be expected since they just recently opened. My husband ordered our food to go, and sat inside with our daughter while they prepared it. We ordered the Money Shot coffee, Potato Latke side, The Big O sandwich, Hot Pastrami Tots, and a Cake Pop Pros - the meats were all tasty and portions were large. The bread on our sandwich also was noticeably fresh and high quality. It was Dutch Crunch but didn't shred the roof of your mouth like some can when they are too crunchy. Service was friendly. There were some jumbo games to play at the restaurant but they were being used at the time so we didn't get to enjoy them. Cons - Service was a bit slow even though they didn't seem too busy. Our coffee didn't have the cold foam that was listed on the menu description which was disappointing because it was a tad expensive at $7. Our potato latke was missing the spicy zhoug sauce so we only had sour cream and apple sauce. Unfortunately since the order was to go the mistakes weren't realized until the food was brought home and it wasn't worth returning to have it corrected. Overall we plan to go back and try more of their items and hopefully enjoy our food there. Prices are a bit high, but you also can tell that the quality of ingredients is there and that the recipes are thoughtfully put together. read more

Tried this place for breakfast this weekend and had high hopes for this place (tried the Rueben sandwiches once at the vineyard 1924 - they were good!). I had the bacon egg and cheese bagel and it wasn't great - for me the cheese always needs to be melted for a BEC and that was not the case. Eggs come scrambled so I'd recommend asking for an over easy too if that's what you prefer. Bloody Mary was pretty good and their cocktail menu looked interesting (multiple coffee cocktails). Ambiance was great the place has a nice flow and good vibes - tables indoor and outdoor with a ton of bar seating all around the restaurant. Service was a bit slow but they just recently opened so I'm sure that will work itself out! Other good items looked good like the blueberry pancakes and the lunch sandwiches. Came here on a Saturday at noon and it wasn't too crowded, got seated right away. The menu has very cool things. I got the lox bagel and the everything tater tots. Both things were very very good!! The portions are big too, you can easily split a sandwich and a side in between two people. I didn't have the chance to try their coffee and cocktails but they looked interesting and they had silly funky names that I loved. Overall it's very good 10/10, nice place to hang out and eat. read more

My review is on the pancakes- 2 for $12 seems a bit outrageous for mediocre tasting pancakes. If you're going to charge that much, at least bring a whole dispenser of syrup so that we can add the flavor ourselves. I was really dreaming of a good bagel, like the ones you get on every street corner in NYC. I was hoping I'd find it here, at a place that appears to be trying to be a Jewish deli with Corned Beef and Pastrami Sandwiches and Matzoh Ball Soup. The only bagels offered were either plain or everything, so I chose the plain one, a Pastrami, Egg and Swiss Cheese Bagel. It was offered with a choice of a green or red sauce as a condiment. I chose the green as it was chimichuri as I love the stuff, but didn't get how that fits with a flavorful pastrami, and it didn't. At all. I must say, the flavor of the pastrami was rather good, however, I must have gotten all of the bits and pieces from when it was time to clean the slicer. The bits kept falling out of the sandwich as I persisted on. I wasn't asked how I wanted the egg, and of course it was dry and fried hard, and the soft, chewy bagel I dreamed of had been grilled and pressed on the flat top. At least the Swiss cheese was real. The waitress was good, it wasn't her fault for the kitchen's inability to make a simple bagel sandwich. She asked how everything was and I couldn't give my normal "ok" when I just don't feel like telling them that they really are not the chefs they think they are. I think my bagel sandwich was $12, cheaper than the other items on the menu. Perhaps that's why I got the scraps and the days old bagel that was grilled so I wouldn't know. Why else would you griddle a bagel? I upgraded my coffee to a Cinnamon Latte which was amazing. Well, for $7, it better be. My dining companions fared much better, with a Pastrami Hash; Pastrami Sandwich; and a Cobb Salad that appeared to be all iceberg and was not visually appealing, however my friend seemed to enjoy it. But my review is on what I experienced, if it wasn't for the service and the latte, I would have given it zero stars. read more

As a lox and bagel lover, as well as a lover of Jewish eateries, I was stoked at the prospect of Rye and Grinds, a seeming play on words about rye bread, and coffee grinds. Yelpers give R&G a healthy solid four stars based on 99 reviews. I'm coming in at a 3. One of the most important things in my morning routine is a solid cold brew coffee. So before I went in I did call the establishment and ask them if they had cold brew coffee. They responded yes. More on this later... I put the convertible top down in the BMW one series and hit the road to R&G. When I arrived, it was a beautiful massive space with accents of blue. What impressed me most was the open kitchen in the back where you can see people rolling out bagels and preparing food almost like the days of Western bagel. I quickly sat down in the blue booth and ordered an everything bagel with lox toasted and without capers. I also ordered a cold brew coffee. The bagel and lox came out pretty quickly. It was a solid presentation, open faced, with piles of lox on each bagel. The cucumbers were sliced a bit thick, but did add some needed freshness and crunch. Bagel was a solid 3.5/5. The inner dough was a little heavier than my take. Lox quality was a 2.5/5. It was heavily smoked salmon and cut very thick. Lox quantity was a 4.5/5. You can see the piles in the photos. The cold brew, tasted on the verge of iced coffee. I'm back in LA grabbing groundwork's as now I write. To the establishments credit this was a Monday morning. With a full bar and crazy coffee cocktails, I can see this place lighting up on the weekend. read more

This is an unambiguous 5 star review. No question about it! Having seen instagram posts from Rye's & Grind, I knew it was on my short list to try. The results were a home run. After pondering, I decided on pastrami house hash and my husband had pastrami eggs Benedict. Both dishes were delicious, hot, & plentiful (we each took half home). The mimosa was good too! The best part of the experience was our server Allie! She was welcoming, outgoing, engaging, fun and deserves a shout out. We had driven by this place a few times and today we decided to give them a try. We love Ruben's and so we decided to try theres since they are a German/Jewish deli and sadly it was one of the worst Ruben's we've ever had. My fiancé is not a picky eater and she couldn't get through half of it. There was a drop of 1000 island dressing and the bread was extreme thick and was didn't taste good at all. German potato salad was watered down almost like soup. Juice was alright but for $10 we'd never order it again. Overall it's overpriced for lower then average food. Looks cool but their food isn't worth the money. Bummer read more

Tried going a couple days ago but it turned out they're closed on Tuesday and Wednesdays... womp. Went back today for my revenge and was impressed overall. Around noon on a Friday the place was about 60-75% full. The interior looks fresh and modern. Lots of outdoor seating; however, we had a toddler and newborn in tow so we opted for indoors where the bulk of the low seating is, albeit less and a bit more cramped. Service was a bit hectic, but being so new it was also a bit expected while they work out the kinks. That being said I waited for about 20 mins for a drink to come only to be told that what I ordered was out and they substituted with their best guess (was not a great guess). They replaced it with something of my choice quickly and at no charge. The star of the show was the food. We ordered the brisket dip and pastrami pusher sandwiches. While the meat may not have been the best when comparing to some of my favorite restaurants of this type, the way all the ingredients in the sandwiches as a whole came together was top notch. Plus the side of tots were crispy and plentiful and potato salad was some of the best in recent memory. I look forward to seeing how this place grows, and think it is a solid addition to the hood. Well that was a bummer... Suggestion to restaurant: when you've blown it, own it! I'll start by saying we've gone several times since they opened, and we enjoyed it each time. The food service has never been too fast, but in a typical sit-down restaurant way/no problem. Today was much slower than that, and when 2 of our 3 dishes were served we'd been there quite a good while. Our drinks were decent but long gone before the food arrived and nobody checked to see if we wanted more. My wife ordered an egg breakfast and forgot to specify how she wanted her eggs cooked. The server came by (after we'd been waiting for quite a while) to let her know that the eggs would be scrambled and the toast would be rye. She didn't ask for preferences or otherwise see if we needed anything and it was still quite a while before the food actually arrived. When our two egg breakfasts came they were basically cold (but my latkes had some residual warmth at first). Her rye toast was not toasted and my bagel was toasted but cold and hard. The server never checked to see how the food was or if we wanted anything (at least I was able to find a salt and pepper shaker sitting on the bar). Our son's Reuben sandwich was apparently pretty good and was actually served hot, but he didn't get it until we were pretty much done with our cold eggs. When the server came by to clear our plates, mine still had a fair amount of food and we let them know about the cold food. They indicated that a table of 20 had ordered just before us, but the server hadn't known it at the time. Apparently the kitchen staff was heavily slammed. Okay; whatever/it happens, but when a restaurant really drops the ball, it's appropriate to give the paying customer some sort of gesture. There are a range of options. None was offered in this case, and we were billed the normal amount. I can't feel great about paying $90 for 3 meals and a couple of drinks given the issues. Even my wife's drink took a really long time. I had done a 30 minute drive for that meal, and had entered excited and left with a belly full of cold regret:( Maybe today was a fluke? We hadn't gone there for a while. In past experiences I'd probably rate the food and the quality of service 3-4 stars. Today wasn't our day and hopefully it's just a fluke for them, but I won't be rushing back, that's for sure. read more

The food here was delicious. The style reminded me of a Jewish deli I visited a few months earlier in Buffalo New York. I give this place points for delivering that unique food experience for sure.The pastrami was on point. The same can't really be said for the wait staff. The food came out quickly but it took a really long time for our waitress to show up and she wasn't very attentive instead focusing on folding napkins and gossiping with her co workers. I will come back mainly for the food but if I was on a time crunch, I would be a little miffed that so much of my time was spent looking for our waitress. I actually had to go up to the counter and get her attention to get a refill on our drinks and the check. I felt like I was ignored for most of my stay and see a similar sentiment evident in alot of this place's recent reviews. . We were watching "Only Murders in the Building" and craving good, Jewish food, and decided to try out this new spot! Really enjoyed our breakfast here. My husband got the Pastrami Eggs Benedict and I had the Shakshouka Eggs. His was a better choice taste-wise, but mine was healthier We also tried a goji berry donut that was good but not great. We were a little confused about it the traffic flow when we first went in...so we seat ourselves, do we wait for someone to seat us, where do we wait? There was a pastry case that some employees were standing by but didn't really seem like a hostess table. Overall, good and we'd come again. read more

I give this place 3 stars because of a mixed review. The dine in order was a Rueben, onion rings and soup. All delicious with prompt and friendly service. Then I had a take order for my family. Jubano sandwich and potato salad. Got home and the potato salad was full of furry mold! the container was marked in the bottom 4/20/24 and 4/25/24. WARNING! they should not be selling 6 day old potato salad! Don't know if it had mayonnaise since I didn't taste it! I hope that nobody made a trip to the hospital if they were unfortunate enough to have gotten the same potato salad! I am going back when they open today to show the ownership what they are sending out in take out orders. I hope this changes their practice of keeping food that long! read more
