I got the original with extra garlic oil and tofu nugget. Everything on point. Rich broth and soft cha shu, good noodles. Although I wish the portion is bigger, but I guess that's how they serve it in Japan. Bill came out to be 30 bucks not including tips. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Place feels very authentic, Okinawa poster, music, art, all over the place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Waitress are very friendly and cute .

Walked past this place many times and heard of it from many instagram posts and it sure did meet the expectations. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Delicious bowl of ramen with Japanese decor inside[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Broth was very nice and rich and the special size had lots of pieces of fatty pork belly. Service was also very quick, would come back again to try their order ramen.

In early August, I was in Little Italy and walked by Tondou Ramen. It seemed like the perfect spot after attending an event to have lunch. I made a mental note of it. It was probably closer to 1 pm on a Saturday when my event was over. I felt like ramen. I walked over to give this place a try. This eatery is on the northwest corner of College and Clinton. The main entrance is at the corner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I walked in. It felt stuffy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] A friendly man greeted me. He said that I could dine on the patio. I was game. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was the only customer, so I sat myself at a picnic-like table, facing Clinton Street. It was cool and pleasant sitting here, as there were paper lanterns and a roof over this area. It was great, especially with a light breeze.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There was a menu on the table. I scanned the QR code to see if that menu was different than the physical ones. The latter highlighted the specials better. I got the following items: - Pork gyoza - Shikuwasa lemonade (2) - Chicken special ramen My server was attentive and wonderful. He asked if I was good with pork in my gyoza. I could also get chicken. Pork was great. I got some water first. It hit the spot. I needed it. It was cold and refreshing. My shikuwasa lemonade came out next. Shikuwasa is a type of citrus fruit from Okinawa. It was excellent. It had a nice tart finish and this beverage was cold with a decent amount of ice. I loved it so much that I ordered another one. It was that good. I still think about how awesome it was. My pork gyoza came out next. Yay, food! I was hungry. The gyoza were deep-fried. Thinly sliced onions and green onions were on top of them. My server recommended the gyoza sauce and koregusu (chili vodka). They were awesome sauces that paired nicely with the gyoza. Each gyoza was generously filled with a pork mixture. It was flavourful and yummy. My ramen came out next. The aroma was the first thing that I noticed. The chicken stock base was stellar. It had so much rich chicken flavour without tasting heavy. It wasn't oily, either. By far, it was the best chicken soup base that I have ever had. Such a dream! I loved my ramen. The chicken slices were tender and yummy. I loved the mushrooms, jammy egg, and lots of green onion in this bowl of deliciousness. The ramen noodles were perfect. They were chewy and enjoyable to eat. I haven't had ramen this amazing in a while. It was the perfect lunch for me on a casual Saturday afternoon. The place started getting busy halfway through my meal. My server gave me a call button device if I needed any help. I never used it because he was so attentive. I asked for my bill. I paid with a credit card. I tipped and all was great. I wished him a great day and walked out of the patio area. I parked at a Green P lot on Clinton. Parking can be a challenge if you are looking to park on the street. I highly recommend coming her for your ramen cravings. I loved my experience. I'd return in a heartbeat. It was a terrific find. The food was good. I enjoyed the summer special cold noodles on the hot summer day. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The view is nice and cozy on the outside seats.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service is nice. I asked ofr a bill and then they never came back and i see them serving 2 other groups so i had to call them back for my bill. They have a button to call the server for help

Best gluten free ramen I've EVER had. WOW. Made me feel like I was eatin' the good stuff again. The service was incredible. [[HIGHLIGHT]]And the decor and seating was adorable![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We're so sad we found it on the last day, we would've come back again if we found it sooner on our trip!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Came here today in the afternoon with my bf and we shared the tako karaage which was tasty, hot, and pretty oily, served with a side of kewpie mayo. I had the spicy tonkatsu ramen and he had the garlic oil ramen. The broth was incredibly flavourful and rich. However, the chashu was quite fatty with very little meat. For $20.5/bowl felt like it could've been a bit more special but I did enjoy the meal. Love how they have sesame as a condiment. The service was nice. They have QR codes at the tables which you can either order through their or through their server. The ambience was really nice - they played some nice music.

While I am disappointed I didn't get to run into Kansei at Tondou Ramen (visiting from Cleveland, OH), I couldn't be more complimentary of my experience of this establishment. The food was amazing and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. You can tell that they take pride in what they do! 10/10!

Updating to account for the Okinawa soba that I finally tried, as well as the Shikuwasa lager, which I believe is concocted especially by this restaurant! (Shikuwasa is a citrus fruit that, even within Japan, is only associated with Okinawa.) The Okinawa soba was not exactly a revelation - based on what appeared to be a classic bonito broth - but was wonderful and comforting.

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

Initially looked busy and thought there may be a wait, but the line was actually for the dessert place that shares the same entrance. I usually switch up my order between the Clam Ramens (shio and shoyu). Can definitely say that these are always made consistent (at least on every visit I've had), so there's no surprise. My friend ordered the Avocado Vegetarian Ramen as part of a set. We were both intrigued by the taste of the broth. It was creamy, but not super thick, and had a fresh, vegetal taste. One miss this time was that my friend ordered a drink, but unfortunately it did not come out at all while we ate. Konjiki is good, far from great, but very solid. The broth has the right consistency with a satisfying richness, falling just a touch short of the deep, creamy intensity I personally look for. The noodles were cooked perfectly, maintaining just the right amount of bite. Nothing ruins a bowl of ramen faster than overcooked noodles. The soft-boiled egg was equally well executed, with a perfectly jammy center, and the chashu had excellent flavor and texture. My biggest criticism isn't what's missing....it's what's added. Like many ramen shops outside Japan, Konjiki includes pickled ginger, pickled takana, and braised bamboo shoots. For me, none of them improve the bowl. In fact, I think they distract from what should be the star of the show: the broth. In hindsight, I could have easily asked for them to be left out, but I've never really understood why they're included in the first place. Even so, this is a very respectable bowl of tonkotsu ramen and one I'd happily order again.

Reach ten stamps and you get a free bowl of ramen. - The chashu is excellent! My rating is 4.5 stars. I'm rounding down. Last Tuesday, I had my monthly 7 am meeting with a bunch of technical writing peers from around the world. It's quite the meeting that typically lasts for four hours. Luckily, we ended earlier than usual. It meant that my workday ended at around 3:30 pm. It was perfect, as I had a concert to attend several hours later. Normally, I don't do dinner before a concert. I grab a quick bite to each before I head downtown. This time, since I was done work early, I felt that having an early dinner was worthwhile. I drove downtown and parked in a lot that seems to be my usual spot whenever I'm attending a concert at Massey Hall. My original plan was to find an eatery close to the concert venue. I spotted Hokkaido Ramen Santouka steps away. I wanted ramen! I walked in and there was a sign that said to wait. I had no wait time. A woman and the entire staff greeted me. I asked for a table for me and got one. It was great. Seating between tables and diners is close together. You definitely overhear conversations and you can't help it. The man next to me had stretched his foot under my table. I didn't notice that he was in my space until I uncrossed my leg and my foot hit his. I listened to two friends next to me. The man seemed to take charge over what he and his female friend should eat, which was interesting. He gave the impression that he was an expert until the server came over and he had a ton of questions. It's always fun being an observer and listener. I had no choice but to listen to her dating experiences. I got a menu. I knew what I wanted. My server came over and was ready to take my order. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Miso chachu ramen, with bamboo shoot held - Jammy egg and corn as extra toppings The menu doesn't tell you what ingredients you get in each type of ramen. However, it does come with a photo. I asked how large a large bowl of ramen was. My server was great pointing up to a display of three bowls. I went large. The photo indicated that my miso ramen had bamboo shoots. I'm not a fan of them, so I asked that they be omitted. I also added a jammy egg and corn. I got a cold can of Diet Coke. A frosted glass with ice accompanied it. I was happy. I love an icy cold drink. This one was excellent. I loved that it was extra cold. My bowl of ramen had arrived. I was excited to dive in. My miso chachu ramen was delicious. The miso flavour was on point. I drank most of the broth, which speaks volumes on how yummy it was. The chachu was tender and had the best balance of pork and fattiness. The number of slices was generous. The ramen was chewy and perfectly done. I loved the corn and jammy egg. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed my ramen without these two key toppings. They worked nicely with the green onions. What prevents me from giving this place a perfect rating is flagging a server to get me water, or to frankly flag any staffer for something, such as ordering dessert or getting the bill. It took effort and hand-waving to get their attention. It took two tries to get a glass of water with ice. I was happy when I got some after I had finished my Diet Coke. It was equally as cold and yummy. I ordered dessert. The menu is stuck on each table. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There were two flavours and I went with matcha. It was rich, creamy, and full of strong matcha flavour. The scoop of ice cream was generous. I loved the small spoon, which allowed this dessert to last a lot longer. I asked for the bill. I got a payment machine. I used my credit card to pay and tip. All was great. I used the washroom before I headed over to explore the downtown area. The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so accessibility is an issue. There are two single-stall washrooms. The one that I used was clean. Because it's an older building, the ceiling is low. I am just shy of six feet in height. I made it without hitting my head on the ceiling. If you are six feet and taller, you'll need to duck to make sure you don't bang your head. Staff say goodbye to you when you leave. It was a nice touch, although I don't know what they are saying to me in Japanese. They could be swearing at me and I wouldn't know. I had a wonderful experience here. If you don't mind sitting close to folks and waving your arms like a maniac to get your server's attention, come here. This ramen joint appeared as a Michelin place in 2017. I can see why. The food quality is excellent. (200)
