Brought in a lamp for rewiring - this guy is a cheat! He just changed the external wire and left all the old wiring inside the rest of the lamp, reconnected everything together very badly, mangled the lamp and overcharged us on top! So my electrician spent his time trying to get it to work and in addition to paying for his time, I had to replace the dimmer (issues caused by defective wiring in the lamp). Thinking of reporting them to small business bureau. This place is a fraud! Update - just spoke to them. They lied that they told my husband that they weren't going to rewire to the light sockets (he said they never said that) and that they spent 4 hours on "that thing" - takes 5 minutes to disassemble the lamp! Fraudsters and rude on top of that! His comment on the phone - "why didn't you do it yourself"! I should have tried - would have saved $140 in their "services" plus the time I paid the electrician plus the cost of a new dimmer!! Avoid at all cost!!! read more

I sent this by email to the owner after this happened, but since they didn't think anything of it to respond, posting it publicly. Today (Feb 25) I was in your store at about 10a and this was my experience. - I stood at the register for at least five minutes with two of your employees looking at me several times from the aisle with no move to assist. I finally said can someone help me and he made me come to him. - I saw that he wasn't wearing his mask over his nose so I backed up. He said "don't be scared" and I said I'm scared of people who after a year of a pandemic refuse to wear masks correctly. To which he replied that he's sick of wearing masks. - I told him everyone is but that people are still dying. And his response was to remove his mask completely. - I left the store when this happened and I will never come back. And I recently bought an apt in the neighborhood and need a lot of work done. I was walking around looking for a place to make a copy of a set of keys. As anyone with mul-t-lock keys knows, those keys look reaaaaally hard to copy. In actuality they're not hard to copy, but you do need a special machine to make them. After walking into multiple hardware or key copying shops along E75th and 1st Ave and being rejected, my friend and I were ready to give up. Then I saw a BIG sticker on the window that said Mul-T-Lock. Hallelujah! Walked in and asked them how much it would cost. It was $10 bucks per key without some sort of "certificate" showing that I actually purchased the lock, probably, and would be less per key if I had that certificate (although I didn't ask how much less). They made the copy of two Mul-T-Lock keys and a regular cut key ($2bucks) in about 5, 10 minutes and they work perfectly! Not only that but they seemed to get a lot of customers walking in just to get keys copied (one was there when I arrived and three more arrived while I was there). The guys making the keys were pretty knowledgable too (One of them picked up another guys key, looked at it, and asked "Is this for a bolt lock?" Just moved in to the neighborhood and needed some basic stuff for the apartment. This was the first place I saw so I decided to try it out. It's a little mom and pop shop, which typically means great customer service right? WRONG. The workers are so damn rude. They all just have this disgruntled-"I don't really care if you need help" attitude. The owner just sits in the front desk chatting up his buddies. Oh you're in line and want to pay? Too bad, lemme finish this conversation first. They made copies of those unique apartment keys without any questions which apparently others don't. I usually make it my business to use local stores whenever possible. As they say, no good deed goes unpunished. I used the store recently and the manager/owner was very rude. The store made a mistake with something that I bought and when I went to exchange it, the owner denied they made a mistake with the order. Even after I showed them their error, he still refused to acknowledge the mistake. There are too many nice store owners to use this place. read more

This a great hardware store that carries pretty much anything you need. It can be busy there and you may have to wait a little for help, but the staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. DISHONEST BE WARE!!!!!!!!! Be careful when handing them a $20 bill, I got short changed. The total of my purchase was $9.79 I gave the Cashier a $20 bill and got .21 change, he didn't bother to put the bill on top of the cash tray sidewise, like many places do now a days, instead he pulled the cash from my hand a quickly slipped it into the $20 slot and clipped it down, gave my change very quickly and shut the drawer. When I told the Cashier I gave him a $20 he opened the cash till and pointed to the $10s. I knew an argument wasn't going to get me anywhere with this man, and I wanted to make it a stress free day on my day off from work, so I left. I know I only had $40 in my wallet when I went to the store, since I checked before leaving my Apt. and this was the first shop I went to to run my errands, so I know I didn't make a mistake! Items marked up 3-4x during the hurricane, bought a flashlight which I checked online later; retailed for literally $30 dollars less. Stopped in today around 11am to pick up some white spray paint. As I walked in the man behind the counter did not greet me or ask if I needed help and just starred at me and continued on with his conversation with 2 other men. I walked directly to the spray paint (didn't really need his help anyways) and began looking at the spray paint behind the glass. I kept hearing the man behind the counter and 2 other men on the other side of the counter go on and on about whether they would have sex (they used a much vulgar word) with an ugly girl or a girl with a hot face, busted face, fat butt (mind you the language was much vulgar) This went on and on and they were so loud that I felt like they wanted me to hear and join in. I was so deeply disgusted and disturbed I ran out of the store not comfortable to get my spray paint and take it to the counter where they were. It's one thing for customers to be talking like that but the man behind the counter was talking just as horrible as they were and it was just extremely disrespectful and made me so uncomfortable. Rude, rude, rude. I went in to buy some rosin paper a few weeks ago, which was badly overpriced, and the surly attendant made it feel like he was doing me some kind of huge favor. Today we went by with a rewiring issue (we had heard they were very good at fixing things, but this has not been our experience) -- not only did the guy not even look at what was going on, he waved us away, essentially as a dismissal. These guys are great. My Dad and I renovated my kitchen (a total gut job), and I was at S&V every day during the project getting all sorts of random supplies. I was continually amazed by the wide range of products they have, from general hardware, to plumbing, electric, to construction materials. More than once I found a product there that I couldn't find at Home Depot. The prices are also reasonable, and they offer free delivery at a relatively low purchase (I think ~$30). There were always a lot of people there to help, always friendly, patient, and helpful. Sometimes other hardware stores give you a hard time as a young woman, but I never had that here. Stopped into S & V to buy a specific screw for a bathroom appliance. The man with moustache at front desk did not seem interested in helping me and sent me to the back of the store to see a sales person. After waiting 5-10 minutes, the sales person sent me back to the front desk where the man with moustache told me to go talk to the sales person again. All I needed was a screw, which would've taken 30 seconds of their time, but they did not even attempt to help me find the item. When there is a Rainbow Hardware store across the street, you would think that this store would make more of an effort with customer service.
