We hired SCH Painters to remove two layers of siding on our 130 year old Victorian home, then install and paint new clapboard. Scott and his crew did a fantastic job and we couldn't be happier. The price quote was fair and we weren't charged more for "extras" like painting our porch rocking chairs and repairing several damaged areas that were uncovered once the siding was off. We were also impressed with the level of communication from Scott. He checked in with his crew onsite every morning and frequently updated us during this time before we headed to work. He also responded to texts quickly and took pictures for us of any rotted wood/repairs that were in places we couldn't easily see (like the third floor dormers). I could have hired a crew of high schooler's. At least they would have researched painting process on youtube. There was little to no preparation of the surface. After about a year the paint failed to adhere. The workers seemed unaware of the painting process at any level. They came back to "touch up" but each of these efforts failed. The old phrase "the meat falls off the bone" (with thx to Jerry Williams) comes to mind for this "work." Keep in mind that the call you make (if off season) is likely to a Florida vacation spot. He talks the game but has no follow through. Also be wary of those crew who clearly have no experience in the painting business. This was a complete waste of time, money and effort. The only focus was SCH smoking and watchiing the "painting" effort from my neighbors deck. When SCH gets tired of that deck he begins a real pro effort of "ghosting" the customer. I live in Reading, and my neighbors are having their home repaired and painted. They seem to be doing a very nice job, but the reason for this review is for the work they did on my home. I saw Scott next door and asked him if he could do some carpentry work on my home when he had the chance. He came over, saw the repairs to the trim that needed to be made and gave me a very fair quote. I didn't ask but he said he'd include touch up painting as well. The next day one of his workers came over and completed the job in a day, including two coats of paint on the newly repaired trim. Everything looks great and i no longer have to worry about getting up on a ladder to the second story and fixing my rotted trim! All around a great experience with a beautiful result. Scott made a very clear proposal at a fair price and helped us choose our colors. Scott and his crew were professional, detailed and followed guidance. They were careful with our plants, did extensive prep work, kept the paint where it belonged and did some fine detail work. We recently hired SCH Painting to work on our house. It needed many repairs in addition to desperately needing a paint job. The house is 123 years old, it's three stories high, and one side of it directly abuts a neighbor's driveway. All of these things make it very challenging to work on. Over the course of only five days, Scott and his team completed all of the repairs and painting. They were always professional, courteous, and willing to answer our questions. And they were very respectful to our neighbors while working in their driveway, being extremely careful to protect and clean up their property. SCH Painters did an outstanding job painting our 100 year old two family house and garage. Scott and his team were very professional. His workers power sanded the whole house and garage and put on two coats of paint and repaired any old boards which made the shingles look almost new. I signed a contract in May 2011 with SCH Painters to paint my residence (exterior). A deposit ($2250) was provided as required per the estimate. I was quoted a start date of 4-6 weeks. As of 13 Oct 2011, the home has not been painted nor any work done to this end. I have inquired (email, voice mail) on at least eight occasions when this work would begin and my messages have been mostly ignored. I have been provided with four separate misleading/false start dates by Mr. Scott Hurd or his associate (Kim). The latest estimate from Mr. Hurd was received the week of 03 Oct 2011 when he informed me that he would begin no later than 08-09 October 2011. As of 10 Oct, the work had not been initiated and I informed SCH Painters that unless they could begin by 12 Oct I wanted a full and immediate refund of my deposit. A certified letter was also sent to their business address formally affirming this request. No refund or acknowledgment has been received as of 14 Oct 2011. Their lack of responsiveness is unprofessional and disrespectful. A complaint was filed with the MA state attorney general and they too were unable to solicit a response from Mr. Hurd. Likewise, a call from my attorney was never returned. I eventually contacted the local police department and they called SCH Painters to investigate the complaint and the money refunded. Scott and his team painted our house this past Spring. We were very happy with the work. Had the job been completed at that time, this rating would be very different. However, the plan was for Scott to return to our house after our new front door was installed. He promised to finish the trim around the door, as well as touch-up the areas around the exterior lights that had been replaced. I contacted Scott once the new door was installed. He initially acknowledged my first 2 attempts to schedule time for him to finish the work, but he never committed to a date. We're going on 4 months now...no returned calls, no replies to text messages, no commitment to finish the work he had promised to do. I just had my home completely refinished by SCH Painting- big, old Victorian house. My house project involved many unknowns- we were to have the asbestos shingle siding removed in hopes that there would be cedar clapboards underneath. Scott, the owner of SCH Painting came out to discuss the project with me. Because of so many unknowns, I was fearful about the cost of project and discussed my hopes with the owner. Along with this, I had a very strict timetable by which I needed to complete the project. Upon signing a contract with SCH, Scott did not take a down- payment. Once the asbestos siding was removed and we could see the damage of the cedar clapboards, Scott gave an estimate of 6 days of construction to fix it. I found it reasonable- other estimates had timetables of up to 21 days and four times the cost. Needless to say, Scott finished a day and a half early on the construction- saving my budget nearly $1,000 dollars. Some of the difficulties regarding the home- a poorly installed window, rotted clapboards, and other unforeseeable problems were beautifully resolved with master carpentry. His crew also finished painting five days ahead of when I needed the project completed. We couldn't be happier with our house. From the fixed construction of clapboards to the fresh paint and trim- SCH Painting did an incredible job. Scott ran an excellent crew, he kept the place clean, and was honest about deadlines and cost. I'm really happy that we went with SCH and cannot believe the look of our home. Run from this company. We had them paint our house which began to peel in sheets within about 1 1/2 years. Still under warranty we asked them to come fix the issues. This took about 10 phone calls and finally tracking down Scott on another job. When they did come, they scraped the loose paint and then never came back to paint over what they scraped off. In some areas they did apply some paint to areas that the paint didn't stick to but the type of paint they used didn't match and so my house looked like it had spots all over it. They never pressure washed the house our treated it for mold so buyer beware. They do not do honor the warranty, their workmanship is poor quality and they did more harm than help. read more
