Our project involved replacing 13 interior doors (including 3 double door closets), and because our home has non-standard door sizes, it required extensive measuring and planning. Serge took the time to carefully measure everything multiple times and even researched the best sources to find the right doors rather than taking shortcuts. He also replaced a bathroom threshold and completed a few other projects, all with the same attention to detail. I discovered and contacted Vessen Home Improvements via Yelp. Serge provided me a bid very quickly and was responsive throughout the entire process. I hired him and his team to repair ceiling damage from a leaking AC drain line. The ceiling literally started to cave in. I attempted to use another contactor, but he wouldn't provide a rough finish, only smooth and the rest of the home (built in the 90's) was rough finished on the ceiling. Serge provided three options/suggestions. In the end, the job came out great, on time and within budget. Serge is a very nice person to work with. Serge and his crew members made many high-quality, aesthetically pleasing improvements of my home in the Spring of 2025. Serge gave me an accurate estimate as well as better ideas of what to do. In doing a particular job, Serge often did something not on the list, like attaching a door-stopper board on the other side of the barn-door floor guide that he installed, because he has very high standards for a job well-done & a comprehensive knowledge of building. Serge had every tool needed for my long list of jobs, which included replacing the irregularly shaped kitchen floor (Serge cut many odd-shaped vinyl pieces & set them perfectly to create a beautiful surface), replacing front door weatherstripping (plus Serge found & trimmed a jutting metal piece that prevented the door from closing completely- the heating bill decreased by 15%!), painting white the dark green walls of 2 rooms, painting other rooms (Serge recommended a painting scheme that made the bedroom brighter), rehanging a hard-to-access pocket door (Serge did it without removing a chunk of wall and installed 2 access panels so that future problems can be easily solved), replacing a water-damaged ledge+shelf top and a facing board, caulking sinks & a bathtub, and removing an ancient, heavy, wall-mounted TV. Reached out to have our front porch steps repaired. He asked for pictures and based on the picture and my measurements gave me an estimate which seemed reasonable. I asked for mahogany boards to match the rest of the deck and he reported that he does not know where to buy mahogany, which was kind of surprising to me. During my contractor searched, I reached out to ~10 companies - including one that was voted 'Best of Boson.' This company rose to the top of my selection criteria. Description of work: I had two basic-sized closets in my bedroom and wanted to remove the doors and built it shelves. And to install custom-designed Container Store closet design. 1. Response time. I tried many avenues (reference, Yelp, Angi's List) to find a contractor and posted a job on Yelp at 3AM in the morning. This shop responded within 10 minutes! And continued to remain engaged (e.g. asked follow-up questions about the job) w/ a response time of 1-3 hours. 2. Quality of job. Sergey's team arrived on time (in fact 15 mins early) and I was very happy with the final product. He communicated to me any questions or issues throughout the process. For example, we realized after removing the custom shelves, time was needed to patch the holes and to do light paint touch-up before installing the new closet design. He left to do another job and returned later in the day to ensure the paint was dry. 3. Customer Service. Sergey's team was professional. He communicated any questions or changes throughout the job, ensured the space was clean, and ensured I was satisfied with the final product. When my custom closet rods ended up being slightly too long, he took it home to cut it and returned the next day to finish the job. 4. Price: I found the price very reasonable. 15-20% less than other quotes. Especially combined with the high quality and excellent customer service. The team put in extra work to make the installation look & work great, beyond what I would've expected - e.g. figuring out a solution for a ladder part that arrived mildly damaged. Sergey was quick to respond and he and his team was able to work on a quick (and weird, on my end) timeline. Very transparent on the various things that need to happen (many of which I, of course, did not know) and able to adapt to slight changes in plans. The work requested was to tear down a closet and if possible, move it to the other side of the room to open the room up more while still having a closet. Initially we agreed on effectively translating it to the appropriate 1:1, but he called to confirm and suggest a slightly smaller closet so that it would not clash with the window. No reason for him to need to do that, so it's very appreciated, and I'd like to convey it demonstrates he has the customer's best interests in mind as opposed to just doing what is requested.
