Why Samantha, why? WHY DID YOU GIVE THIS PLACE A SECOND TRY?! I figured, I need my hair cut. I want as little taken off the length as possible and choppy layers. I figured that would be a very straight forward request. I was wrong. I should have known when I saw the owner get into a heated debate with a customer over the fact she hated her hair and felt he ruined it, and he wouldn't do anything about it besides threatening to call the cops on her. They assigned me to a very nice, but not chatty hairdresser who had good hair, I figured it'd be a good sign.. The lady that did my hair styled it well, but once I got home and straightened it, you can't tell she did anything to my hair. $90 for nothing... I wonder if the owner will blow up at me if I come in to complain. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would!! I went in looking for a short yet choppy cut with bangs. I had a coupon for $20 off. I called ahead and could get an appointment right away. After a shampoo, I showed the stylist who I was later told is the owner the picture of the cut. He was nice and pleasant enough but what shocked me is that as he was cutting my hair, he threw it at one of the employees in a joking way. Totally unprofessional! After he finished the cut, it looked nothing like the picture and was super short, no bangs, not choppy. Not much I could do at that point. I went to pay and the receptionist said my total was $80 with the coupon! I asked why it was so expensive as the website said $65. She said it was because the owner did my cut. I paid and left very unsatisfied. I later emailed my concerns and a nice lady called me back to explain the price. She basically said because my hair is long and thick, the price SHOULD have been $140 for my cut but they reduced it and did me a favour already!! I told her that was ridiculous bc he hacked it all off in a few snips and I could have done that at home and then walked in with short hair to be able to get the short hair pricing! In the end, they offered me $10 off my next cut.... Gee thanks! I won't step foot in this place again! Beware! read more

Excellent experience. This is my second visit and I've booked a 3rd appointment. Greeted a moment after entering, my jacket whisked away and coffee in my hand within minutes. Shortly thereafter a long head and neck massage followed up with a steaming cloth and a wonderful face rub. I was a bit apprehensive about changing my hairstyle but Kayla talked me through the pros & cons of a few different styles and then suggested a cut that would work for me. Honestly I had terrible experiences the times I've been here. You'd think for a clean, nice smelling, biscotti and tea offering salon would be worth the money but no, they aren't. If you can get passed the "I'm better than you" atmosphere and vibe, you'll be greeted with snooty employees. First time being there I had to get my hair fixed from a disaster of bleaching and cutting too short, I settled on getting extensions put in (the ones that glue to your head. I got only the top of my hair done as the sides of my head were shaved. 1200$ for a small chunk of gross feeling plastic bits, on top of that they pretty much forced me to buy an expensive, special brush and shampoo & conditioner. They lasted maybe 4 months, then I had to cut them all out which landed me right back into the boat I was in before. Second time I was there I had my prom hair done. It looked like a goddamn birds nest, I hated it. Good job Saab, you failed once again. The 3rd and final time was when my mother and I went to get our hair done, mother and I had wash, cut and blow dry with a style. 250$ later they did absolutely nothing to our hair. I was the same walking in as I was when I walked out. If you enjoy flushing your money down the toilet then I suggest you go here. read more

I go to an Aveda Salon in Dallas. I happened to be in Ottawa for a week and needed my hair highlighted and cut. I read the reviews on here and was a bit skeptical, but I know what I pay in Dallas. I wasn't looking for cheap. I wanted someone who knows color and can cut hair! I was thrilled with the results. In fact I made appointments for the next two times I will be in Ottawa. I feel like you get what you pay for. If you want experts and don't mind paying for it, go here. Ask for Harley! She does a superb job! read more

I scheduled a men's haircut last When I arrived, I was told that I would be receiving a woman's cut because I was a woman which is a 25$ price increase (75$ instead of 50$). I politely and calmly asked again for a men's haircut, explaining that I was comfortable with a male barber and clippers and due to my very short hair (2" long) and did not expect (nor want) anything different than a man would recieve at the salon. I was told again, you will get a woman's haircut because you are a woman. I was asked to pay 25$ more for no difference in service provided to me. I pasted a very fake smile on my face, agreed to pay, and sat quietly down Saab, are you simply charging me 25$ to look at my breasts? I will never patronize this establishment again. And, if gender equality interests you at all, I suggest that you do not either. read more

RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE AND RUDE! WILL NEVER GO BACK! I got my hair done at SAAB for a wedding and wanted a half up, half down do. When I called in the morning to book and appointment , I asked roughly how much it would be, the guy on the phone said $50-$70 which seemed reasonable. When I came in, the stylest didn't didn't wash or blow dry my hair, just curled it and pinned a few pieces up. When I went to the cash to pay, it was $140!!!!!!!! I nearly dropped to the floor. I'm from Toronto, and have never ever paid anything close to that for a hair do. I had almost the exact same hair style the weekend before for another wedding and it only cost me $80. Needless to say, it was my mistake for brining my designed purse in with me because I saw the stylist staring at it and she probably thought I was an easy target for some extra bucks. Never judge a book by it's cover, it was a fake, a good fake, but nonetheless a fake. I called the following day to express my shock about the prices and spoke to the owner. He was also rude and treated me like crap on the phone. In brief, AVOID THIS SALON AT ALL COSTS. read more

Went in on Saturday as part of a bridal party. I have short hair, that doesn't even touch my shoulders, so I requested a simple wash and round brush blow dry to create some volume. I did get a wash and dry... but there was much less volume than when I do my hair on my own at home. It took roughly 10 minutes. I walked up to the register ... and they told me that would be $140. SERIOUSLY. FOR A WASH AND BLOW DRY OF MY 5 INCH LONG HAIR?! I refused. The girl behind the counter went to speak to the manager who revised the price to $70. Still completely ridiculous. The rest of the bridal party all got reasonably simple styles with a few curls. They all had to pay $140. Total total scam. Their curls also all fell flat within a couple of hours and had to be redone before the wedding. I will never return to this salon. read more

I was treated by a friend to a manicure at Saab Spa and was very disapointed with the results. We paid the extra and had the Shellac polish added which was not brought down to the bottom of the nail therefore it looked like it was a week old. After 1 week the growth was so bad that it had to be removed. The entire procedure took less than 30 minutes with no massage and very little care. The cost for 2 was $149 plus tip.... Way too expensive for the results.....no follow up on complaints and reviews are hidden read more

This place is so so so overpriced for very mediocre service. My mani/pedi cost over $100, which didn't even include a massage or cuticle cut for the manicure - she literally just filed and painted my nails for 35 dollars. I've had way more enjoyable full service mani/pedis for less than half the price at many other salons. The women who worked on me were fine and pleasant but I just couldn't stop thinking about how much money this was costing for something not even that great. The people at reception on the other hand were mostly rude and inattentive. I will never go back here. read more

I just can't believe how expensive this place is... I got a normal haircut, a normal color, I have medium length hair. It was $500. I was too embarrassed to complain but I should have. It doesn't surprise me that they have such a bad rating. I booked a bachelorette party here with five girls getting their nails done (most mani+pedi) - spending over $700 in the couple hours we were there. When I booked the girl on the phone was fantastic. She said they required a $120 deposit for such a large booking, and took my credit card and charged me. The day of our services, things went well with the services; however when I went to pay I was the last up and the lady at the front desk was extremely rude to me. I told her I was supposed to have an $120 deposit on my services, and she kept arguing with me. First she said "Oh no, it would be on your file" then she said "Oh I remember we didn't have the right number to charge you." When I kept telling her I saw that I was charged, she kept arguing with me. I loaded up my banking app and showed her I had been charged and she began to eat her words. She called for the manager as they scrambled to figure out what went wrong, and "found" the charge on my friends file. This was clearly a complete lie as she had already paid full price for her service, and didn't have a surplus on her account. I feel they were trying to rip me off, and a crappy apology did nothing for me. The staff doing the services were great to us, but this left such a bad taste in my mouth that I would absolutely never return to this shady establishment. read more

My first visit to Saab was for Esthetics, about three years ago. I had a great experience and continued to book my waxing appointment to here. About a year ago I booked a hair appointment here for the first time. (BACKSTORY: In life, I have rarely ever had my hair cut by the same person twice. Not because the experiences were ever bad, just because none of them ever made such positive impression that I felt compelled to go back) Since that first hair cut at Saab, I've been getting my hair cut their regularly. I have a short style and therefore have to cut my hair every 4-6 weeks (at the latest) so as not to look like a ragamuffin. I have excellent service here on every visit. The staff are really focused on keeping the shop clean, stocked and inviting. Everyone who is available takes part in looking after clients who enter; they hang up my coat, offer me coffee. If it's a slow business day, the team are often dusting the merchandise and shelves, doing their best to keep the space at it's best. It clear that the owner has been able to instill a sense of pride and care in the whole team. The stylist that I see is really genuine, in fact everyone seems to be really authentic and genuine with their clients. I think what brought me back was that my stylist checks in regularly during cutting to make sure that the style is shaping up the way I had imagined it and he's always really easygoing about changing direction if I decide to change my mind. If you're looking for a new stylist or aesthetician, I definitely suggest giving Saab a try! And if you have your heart set on a particular style, ask the front desk team who they would recommend, they know the stylists and their strengths really well. read more

So... I am late on my review of this place, and technically I didn't actually get any services done there ever, but I will always be thankful for this place. A few years ago, I was having a cup of coffee outside there waiting for the bus and didn't even realize I dropped my wallet. And normally, this isn't an issue, but I was 16 at the time, my parents were going to be gone for 2 weeks, and they gave me money to buy groceries/school supplies/bus tickets, etc, while they were gone...it was all cash. I dropped $350 and every piece of I.D I had...and then I had nothing. I couldn't go to the bank to get a new debit card because, oops, no I.D. I couldn't get home, because oops, no money for more bus tickets. I was 16 so this was probably the worst thing that had ever happened to me up until that point and I literally thought I was going to starve to death before my parents returned. In my state of panic, I called my answering machine in case any friends had left messages to help me out, but even better, Saab called me, said they had found the wallet. I figured that the money would be gone, but at least I could use the $20 in my bank account to buy 2 weeks worth of ramen noodles or something. I walked in, there was a red head at the desk and another blond girl, with obviously amazing hair, I told them they found my wallet. They said "Ya! Here you go!" and said thank you and told me to have a nice day...all the cash was there. Down to the last dollar. I am so happy that they found it and were kind enough to search up my address (remember reverse 411? fantastic) and give me back my wallet. Not a lot of people to do this, I told this story to a friend once and said "Ya, I found someone's wallet with $400 in it, took the cash and tossed the wallet". So, this is no small thing. I really really appreciate what those women did, I've actually found 3 wallets since that day, some with cash and some without, but I always go out of my way to return them because these people were so nice to return it to me. I will have to stop in for a hair cut next time I'm in the city. Thank you Saab. read more

Terrible experience, I will never go back. It was my first time at SAAB last week and I had asked for an experienced stylist while making the appointment. They put me with their newest and least talented stylist who not only didn't do a good job with my layers, she was also dour faced the whole time. On top of it, she pulled so hard at my hair while blow drying that my scalp was hurting until the next day. And at the end of it all, she charged me the full amount for the haircut even though I had a new customer discount coupon from their webpage and had told them at the time of making the appointment that I will be using it. I was grateful that SAAB fit me in late one Thursday evening. Having never been there, I was randomly assigned Jessie as a hairdresser. She did a very quick haircut without seeming to care much about what I thought, and seemed interested to get out quickly. She did the cut in under 30 minutes - no frills - and I was charged $80. I went to this spa for 15 years or more (long ago it had a different name). The service used to be great but for the last few years it has seriously gone downhill. Today for example, I downloaded their menu from their website, sorted out my schedule (backstory: my husband got me $200 in gift card for a present because he didn't realize I'd switched spas), and called to book the appointments. After all of that, I was told that it was their old menu that was posted on the website and the price for the two services I want is now $40 more. I said that was disappointing, and that they really shouldn't have incorrect information on their website. I then commented on how my experience with their service over the past while has been very disappointing, I noted politely that after 15+ years I had recently switched spas because of their lack of customer service and care, then I asked if I could please return the gift card. There was absolutely no positive customer service response. They did not say anything like - 'you are a valued customer, how can we change your mind?'; they also didn't say - 'we are so sorry you feel that way, how could we do better?" I was simply told 'no you cannot return the gift card but you can use it to buy products if you don't want book a service.' Very very disappointing. read more

This place is too expensive; however, this salon used to be my routine place for hair cuts as they are very good and I used to get a graduated bob, which is a tricky cut. My regular stylist there was Emily and I believe I had Kayla Kenney once and had cuts from a couple other stylists there (though can't remember their names now). All hair washers give a scalp and neck massage, some were great at it, others were not. I have switched to the Loft as I have found a stylist there who is amazing at doing natural-looking blond highlights and the cuts there are cheaper than at Saab. BossArts Salon & Spa on Laurier is also a good option if you are looking for a less expensive Aveda salon. read more

Nice place, however the stylists are rushed and overbooked, and the last time I was there she chopped a huge piece of hair way too short (above eyebrows) and I don't have bangs. It looked ridiculous! This despite the fact that I specifically asked not to make the layers too short. For a $60 hair cut, I expect more attention to detail. I've also worked at other salons. So keep in mind that just because the place looks chic and sells Aveda products and has "shampoo assistants", doesn't mean you're going to get a great cut. read more

I have never been so horribly treated in a hair salon! I have been going to Saab for quite a while (because i like Aveda product) and always leave quiet a bit of money and in return i got such a rudeness first from secretary second from the "main guy" , manager,( presumably)! I was crying on the bus, coming from this SAAB Ottawa Bank street!!!!!! I think the behavior of the male manager is unacceptable!! I called to make an appointment and asked about a price, since i haven't been to the salon for a while, to see if the prices have changed. The secretary gave me 3 prices in very irritated manner, as if i am not allowed to ask! I came, a girl did my hair very well, When the secretary saw me her face showed such disappointment and unfriendliness that i had to ask this male manager whether everything is alright with the secretary. He said that the secretary told him that when i called i wanted to negotiate the price and hung up the phone!! This is purely nasty and empty accusations! The fact that i came and did my hair and payed $110 didn't even stop him accusing me! He was soooooo rude, he raised his voice!!!!! This has to be stopped!! Throut time I left many hundreds dollards in this particular salon and finnally got this "good" treatment. NEVER AGAIN will go there! Will complain to Aveda company. I am happy with the hair work done by the owner but this place is VERY pricey and a lot of hustle and bustle - ie. not always super focused on you while they are working on your hair. For over $50 just for a pedicure you would expect to have excellent service, but Saab defies expectations. While the ladies doing the pedicure were lovely the owner's wife was the rudest person I have ever had to deal with. We had trouble finding a referral code in their system and instead of being helpful she ended up yelling at us and blaming the management right in front of us. All round unprofessional. I will definitely not be going back and I'd advise others to go elsewhere, unless you enjoy being yelled at and overpaying. read more

I went there in July to get a consult on whether keratin or relaxer treatments would be better for my hair type. I was told the relaxer would be better as I was seeking something long term. However, when I did get the relaxer treatment my hair was completely chemically burnt. They should have never recommended such a treatment for my wavy thick hair. I went back to show them the results and all they could do is give me a conditioning treatment and repeat the relaxer treatment. I had to completely chop my hair off and it's been months and I'm still trying to get it back to how it used to be. My hair isn't just burnt it completely rips if I run my fingers through it. Added to this they recommended a shampoo and conditioner from their aveda collection that simply made my hair worse. It was expensive and I ended up throwing it out. Completely terrible experience I wouldn't recommend treatments there. It doesn't seem they know what they're doing. read more

I am traveling to Ottawa this weekend and based on a recommendation I booked an appointment at this salon for a wedding I am attending. I booked four appointments total a month ago(for myself, my sister and daughters). Today I received a call from their "customer service rep" saying that because I booked four appointments on a Saturday and I was not one of their "regular customers" I was required to pay a $100 non-refundable deposit via credit card immediately or my appointments would be cancelled. The lady on the phone said that they had a waiting list of people looking to book at that time and that they were a "high end salon" and this was their policy. Given that she initially said that I wasn't one of their "regular clients", it seems they made up a policy just for me! I said I needed to check with my sister and would call back and she said "I'll give you 30minutes or I am cancelling your appointments. Needless to say I cancelled my appointments and took my business elsewhere. Please avoid this salon as they are pretentious and rude. There are many other options in the area! read more

Nice looking place, but the pedicure I got isn't good. They didn't use top coat and it looks bad after just a day or two.

I went in for my second time last Fall. Although pricey, I had a positive experience the first time around and was willing to go through it again. I explained the colour I had wanted and showed a picture in a magazine to reinforce my idea. The colour didn't turn out the way I had wanted but thought that the salon lighting might be influencing my perception. When I arrived home, I clearly saw that it wasn't the colour I was hoping for and promptly called the salon. They were willing to accommodate me within a couple of days and redid the colour at no extra charge. I was very satisfied with the end-result and their willingness to ensure that I got what I had wanted. As with other Aveda salons, they lauded their hair products and encouraged me to buy some. But, they didn't "push" me to buy any. I only bought some make-up, which is what I was planning to do in the first place. I will be returning to this salon. read more
