I have been under the care of Doctor Strickland for almost two years. I just recently had my first of two knee replacements. I'm 59 and have had two meniscus surgeries with ONS years ago. ONS was okay. In comparison, working with HSS has been exceptional in appointment scheduling, authorizations, billing, pre-op, operation, and post-op. I'm in corporate sales and as a result, am very hard to please as a customer/patient. I have high expectations. I've read the lower-star reviews here and question their accuracy for a few reasons. I suggest to anyone suffering from knee complications to keep in mind that you and your mindset are the #1 factor in your outcomes regardless of the doctor. You have to do your part, put in the work, and do your research. No doctor is a magician. As far as Doctor Strickland goes, you are in the most capable hands for this type of complication. Whether you choose maintenance or surgery, she is the very best. However, if you are defeated with unrealistic expectations and have a poor attitude, no doctor will ever cure what ails you. Furthermore, to have a successful outcome, you need to manage your health through exercise and weight management. And, you need to do the post-op or post-diagnosis physical therapy. If you don't, you may have difficulty with achieving a successful outcome, regardless of the doctor. There is a reason Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City is the top-ranked hospital in the United States for orthopedics for 2024-2025, and has held that title for 15 years in a row. Doctor Strickland is part of this ranking. If you can get to HSS and Doctor Strickland, it is a privilege. Do your part too and your expectations will be exceeded. read more

Truly the worst experience with a doctor I've ever had. Sabrina Strickland, I hope you read this and know that you shouldn't be in the service of helping people. You don't care AT ALL. Every single review you have received about no follow up, not caring, and GHOSTING is 100% accurate. I think you hate your job and your patients. When I first came in for follow up after my surgery, you acted like seeing me was a nuisance. You literally couldn't care less and rushed me out of there like I didn't matter. You then cancelled my 6 week check up to get my brace off the DAY OF, AN HOUR before my appointment with no care in the world. It's actually insane. Reading all of these comments is so validating. You're just the worst. For anyone looking for a doctor, please for the love of God, do not see this person. Truly the worst doctor I think in NYC. Do everyone in NYC a favor and leave your practice. To HSS: this woman is tarnishing your reputation. What a shame. read more

My sense is that Strickland is a smart doctor who knows her stuff, however, I 100 percent agree with the person who said there is NO follow-up care or feedback on tests. As a patient, I was constantly calling and messaging the office to advocate for my care, get test results, request follow-ups, only to have them completely ghost me, something I've never experienced with any other doctor. I'm still suffering from the issue she treated me for -- it's getting worse and could have resulted in blood clots. Her office has been non-responsive. I see above that Dr. Strickland told someone "you don't die from an orthopedic condition." Well, I could die from a blood clot! I am keeping track of every single correspondence I've had with the office should anything happen to me. It's unconscionable. As a new patient, I called her office to see if she took my insurance. The first thing the man said after picking up the phone is, "Are you on Medicaid?" I thought that was VERY off putting! (I'm on private insurance, but that's not the point.) I proceeded to tell him the insurance I had and he then said sarcastically, "Well, I had to ask." Really!? His "elitist tone" was just too much for me. I ended the call soon after that and decided that this was NOT the type of office and/or office clerks I want to be around. Because of this first interaction with her staff--I will NOT try to get an appointment with her; nor will I recommend this office. (Train your staff to deal RESPECTFULLY with anyone who calls in--whether they're on Medicaid or not!!) read more

There is so much chaos around her practice that you have to wonder about the quality of patient management. There is no follow-up on care or feedback on tests. Contacting the practice throught calls, emails, messaging takes days before you get a response. And the response is ALWAYS "we will get back to you", AND that can take months. She once told me you don't die from an otrhopedic condition. I guess that means they can drag out care as long as they want. I moved on to another doctor. read more

Dr. Strickland did a partial knee replacement on me in 2020. It was never right and I had to go back into surgery 8 weeks later to "move" my knee. It felt "off" and for the past 4 years I have struggled walking with it getting worse every day. I went back to Dr. Strickland twice in 2 years with my struggles and she always said "it was successful." I filled out the many, many surveys sent out by HSS stating I was depressed and upset as this surgery clearly did not work but no one ever reached out to me. I've been to two other doctors in the past 6 months both of whom said the device used on my knee was not the right one for my problem. This week I met with a highly regarded doctor in New Jersey who said my new MRI images showed the device was not placed into the bone but instead on top of it which has caused it to shift and not fit properly. I am now scheduled for a full knee replacement. I am very disappointed as I was dismissed by Dr. Strickland and HSS. I now need another surgery to correct the surgery from Dr. Strickland. My insurance is not as good as it was 4 years ago so this will cost me a lot more money. But, I have no option as I am currently using crutches to get by on a daily basis. I would not recommend Dr. Strickland nor would I recommend HSS based on my experience. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Strickland's twice. First, I got a 2nd opinion from her via the Grand Rounds (GR) program, which costs $800, all out of pocket. That was a disappointment. It took me 2-3 hours to talk to the doctor that intook all the information I provided for Dr. Strickland to evaluate, because I had seen so many doctors and PTs previously, and because I provided so much information. Once I was informed Dr. Strickland was selected for by GR consult, it was less than an hour later when she responded. It would have been impossible for her to review even half of the information I provided in that time, let alone process and evaluate it. The response I got back was completely unhelpful and I received no new information from it. It genuinely seemed like the response was phoned in, with no real thought and attention put into it. A month after that consult, I saw her in person. This was another disappointment. No attempt was made to explain why I have the symptoms I do. Injections were suggested, when I don't have joint pain. I just have tendon pain, and a severe feeling of misalignment and weakness - no explanation was offered for these symptoms. She also recommended blood flow restriction therapy - to help develop the parts of my quads that feel dead. She said I could try it at the PT facility in HSS. I got to the PT facility that day and they told me I couldn't just TRY it, I could only do it if I set up a bunch of appointments to do it regularly. Sorry, I'm not driving 3 hours each way 2 times a week for that. And there literally isn't a facility that offers blood flow restriction therapy any closer. How could she not know her own PT facility wouldn't even let me try it? How could she not know it's not offerred, basically anywhere else? I don't think it would have helped anyway. It's just a stretch of a suggestion to get me to leave. Just like all the other doctors I have seen at HSS, no actual analysis of my symptoms is performed. No one at HSS has done a single thing to try to explain the cause of my symptoms. I have tried to contact Dr. Strickland, but I was told she does not speak to patients on the phone. I just had my fourth, and final operation by Dr. Strickland. She's kind, she's the best in her field (she founded the patella department at HSS!) and does everything she can to get you back on your feet. She has an awesome team who are super helpful and communicative. Nothing she does is simple: I just had my second MACI/MPFL and right now she's not my favorite person, but I know after having my other knee done what the end result is, so I'm riding it out and she'll be on my nice list before it's done. She's so good in my eyes, I travel cross country for her help and don't think twice about doing so. read more

I went to see Dr. Strickland in 2017, after waiting 4 months for an appointment. I needed a total knee replacement. My appointment lasted 6 minutes. She took one look at me and said: "You're too fat! There are surgeons who will do your knee but I'm not one of them." She seemed to be done with the appointment but I figured after waiting 4 months--and being--insulted, she could at least give me her take on the x-rays and test results I brought her. She did so most reluctantly. Clearly, this is someone extremely unprofessional (there are better ways of saying what she said), lacking tact, empathy, and simple kindness. Luckily, I found a terrific surgeon (above her in rank), also at HSS and he is everything Strickland is not. Do yourself a wonderful favor and avoid Dr. Strickland. read more

I have read the 1 star reviews below and feel I need to weigh in. I have seen Doctor Strickland for 8 years now for a very complicated knee defect. Dr. Strickland was the only physician in 20 plus years with this problem who diagnosed it correctly and surgically repaired the knee to the point where I can ski and cycle (50+ miles a day) and can function to the best of my ability with what I was born with. Her staff has always been very friendly and helpful with insurance issues. The entire hospital system switched computer systems which may be leading to some of the administrative problems. It is a shame that some folks discount such an amazingly talented surgeon because of an administrative issue. read more

Don't bother going to see Dr. Strickland unless you have a lot of time on your hands to navigate the administrative mess that is her practice. I had to call 6 times to find out if she reviewed my MRI results, and each time I was told I would receive a call back. Never happened. When she finally reviewed the results and prescribed treatment, I had to deal with the individual who handles insurance. I followed up a week after I was told they would get preauthorization from my insurance company, and nothing had been done. I was then told that I'd have to wait until the following week, because the person who handles that was going on vacation. I eventually gave up and saw another doctor, who has a friendly helpful staff and doesn't compromise patient care due to a poorly staffed office. read more

Dr. Strickland spent at most five minutes examining me, discouraged me from getting an MRI, and mumbled something about scapular winging, which is a SYMPTOM, not a diagnosis. She said she would give me a script for physical therapy and then dismissed me to pay the bill. More than four weeks later and I still have received neither an insurance statement nor the promised scrip - nothing from her office except two additional bills from the Hospital for Special Surgery. read more

If I could give zero I would the office people are rude. She barely examines you. I totally felt like she just packs in all the appointments possible to bill the insurance companies. The X-ray tech complained about doing the set of X-rays ordered, the whole time I was lying there in pain. I will never ever go back. read more

Everything about Dr. Strickland's practice is professional, modern, and inspires confidence. She runs a tight ship and seems to want to give her patients the best possible care and experience, and it shows. Even the x-ray room is right down the hall, beautiful and brand-new looking, with a great view. X-rays are done right before your visit, if needed, so everything is completely seamless. Dr. Strickland's practice is part of the sports med center for women at HSS, and it's great that this practice exists. Every person in the office was kind and competent, to say the least. As a new patient, I can't speak to long-term care, but I was very impressed after this first visit. read more

Sad to see the one star review. I went to see Dr. Strickland on the recommendation of a friend who had a knee replacement with her. I am thrilled to say my experience with Dr. Strickland and her staff was amazing. Since I had a 5 hr drive down from upstate, things could have been a mess, but Karla the surgical coordinator scheduled all my preop testing and surgery right down to a tee. Dr. Stickland's expertise and talent has me up biking and hiking and feeling like a kid again (I'm in my late 60's). I'm looking forward to skiing this season. I have a new lease on life thanks to Dr. Stickland!!!! Oh, and all the HSS nurses and staff where thoughtful and caring too. Wonderful experience! read more

I saw Dr Strickland for a shoulder injury (my SC joint specifically, an anterior subluxation). She was, for lack of a better word, supercillious, rushed, and borderline rude. She is a very in-the-box kind of thinker with little patience for explaining joint/muscular function. I left with more questions than answers. She did not explain to me all my treatment options (like prolotherapy and PRP), even though I asked about them, telling me they were not "supported" by the literature. Instead, she recommended a cortisone shot (which, by the way, is also not "supported" by the literature). Her treatment did nothing and there was no follow-up by her chaotic office. Her staff could not explain the safety parameters of nursing during the course of my cortisone treatment (even though they are a Women's Sports Medicine group!!). I had to find the answers out myself, researching half-lives of steroid solutions online. She left me with little hope and did not have much experience with my kind of injury. Since then, I have sought out other physicians. I am currently getting POSITIVE results with treatments that she did not tell me anything about. She might be ok for an easy, run-of-the-mill injury, but for something complicated, I'd advise a patient to look elsewhere for someone who is a more independent thinker and with a better bedside manner. read more
