I got two Mexican steak tacos, a barbacoa taco, and an Asada de Puerco plate. Washed that down with a pineapple agua fresca. The tacos and tortillas are street style, meaning corn tortillas. They are sturdy ones and don't fall apart on you. The tacos were very tasty--the barbacoa was tender and salty, and the Mexican steak had great flavor. The asada was in an al pastor sauce and was very good with the provided lime and salsa. Nice and tender. The plate came with rice and beans, which were both fine but not special in any way. The plates are a combo meal--you get a Pepsi with them so you don't need to buy a drink if you don't want to. They have two salsas, green and red (a light red). They bring the heat! The green one was spicy for me and an excellent complement to the meats. The red one was flaming, too hot for me to handle but if you like spicy then this is your choice. The people and the menu are both friendly--all the protein choices are in English and Spanish so you know what you're getting if you speak one of the two major languages around here. The menu is quite broad, they have tortas and quesadillas as well as the tacos and plates. The drawbacks for me: 1) They are a bit slow, business was brisk when I went and it took about 30 minutes to get food, and 2) they only take cash, so you'll need to make a trip to the ATM before coming. All the food--tacos, the plate, and the drinks--came to $23 so pretty reasonable.

They did not even have a Yelp page, but Bar A is great, so I knew Solo must be pretty good for him for mention it. I followed them on Instagram and gave them at least a half hearted consideration to visit nearly every weekend since then. Finally, on this day, I decided to do a little taco truck food crawl and try three different places. I hit up the other two at lunch, and really didn't feel like getting back in the car to drive there, so when I saw they were on Uber Eats, I was never so happy to pay the delivery fee in my life. See, the weekend prior, I drove all the way there, only to learn that they had to close early that day. There was no phone number to call to confirm that history would not be repeating itself, so Uber Eats seemed like such an easy choice. Anyway, despite that early closure annoyance from the week earlier, and despite the fact that I did not get these tacos fresh off the grill, they were awesome. Of the three taco trucks I patronized on this day, they were the best. I went with Beef, Carnitas and Al Pastor. The Al Pastor were fine, but the other two were excellent. I even added an avocado and cheese to the beef and that was an excellent decision. I also added grilled onions to all of them, which was another big win. The beef ended up being my favorite. I'd love to come back again and eat it on site. I'd also love to try a burrito. But today was taco crawl day. For research. And my findings were that Solo Tacos wins the gold medal.

Without much prodding, the bf and I popped in here before church to get a couple of potato and egg breakfast tacos to go. The friendly guy behind the counter (who I assume was the owner, based on his enthusiasm) handed us the menu, which had options-a-plenty. I can't remember everything, but I know there were multiple types of tamales and tacos, and your typical Tex-Mex/Mex-Mex fare. The guy told us "next time we'll have all sorts of tamales!" So maybe not everything on the menu is available yet? So, the tacos. They were pretty good! I'm not sure if the tortillas were homemade because I thought I saw a sack of "mission tortillas" behind the counter. Regardless, they didn't taste like they'd been packaged. The tortillas were stuffed with potato and egg, which seemed really fresh! It looked like they used real egg (none of that egg beater business) and freshly chopped potatoes (maybe slightly undercooked b/c they were a little firm, but still good). It wasn't the fastest cooked food for a to-go order, but that just makes me think they don't make it till you buy it. I can't complain about that. The potato/egg tacos were $1.25 each whereas the chorizo and bacon and other meats are around $1.50. The credit card machine was out, so they are just taking cash in the meantime. While it may not be the best bfast taco ever, it was good, cheap and filling. I'm definitely gonna give them another shot due to them being located on my route to work. Besides, those tamales pique my stomach's interest! The 3 stars means it's worth checking out, so maybe "A-OK" isn't a fair assessment, since I don't even know how long they've been open. It's nice to have non-chain places like this in the area with friendly and eager service. This is the latest food truck to occupy the space between Falvel and Roseville on Spring Stuebner…read more Stopped in the other day and picked up 3 tacos (beef, chicken, al pastor) and 3 pupusas (pork, beef and loroco). Added an elote (cup of corn) and a jamaica agua fresca. The tacos are the type where the meats are well done and chewy, but cut small so that's not a problem. They were all nice and tasty, with cilantro and onion. They came with two salsa, an orange salsa that was seriously spicy and a milder green one. The tortillas were fresh and tender. Good representations. The pupusas were also fresh and tender. One minor hiccup--instead of the pork and cheese pupusa, we got one with just cheese. They were nice and savory, easy to eat. They came with an orange sauce that was in between the salsas on spice level and complemented the pupusas well. The loroco pupusa is a unique item. Loroco is a central american flower bud with a mildly bitter and nutty flavor. The pupusa had a nice texture and good flavor, and it was interesting to try something new. The elote was a classic preparation and a generous serving. The agua fresca was particularly good--nice and strong jamaica. Overall it's a good choice. Their competition is tough--Taqueria El Rancho up the road is also a nice place with a tree-shaded eating area and a broad menu. La Zona has a broad menu as well--lots of different Mexican snacks, along with hot dogs and burgers. Not a cheap place--the elote was $8. But there's a nice seating area. Worth a stop.

The burrito was plenty in itself--a large, neatly wrapped package of beef, shrimp and chicken goodness. It also had rice and cheese. The shrimp were popcorn shrimp but were cooked nicely--hard to do with the little ones. The beef was a bit chewy but tasted great and ate well when mixed in with everything else. You could easily divide it three ways. The burrito came with three salsas--a traditional red, an orange sauce that mixed ranch with a little chili, and a creamy green avocado sauce. The green sauce had the most kick, it brought the heat well. The orange sauce was mild but the flavor went really well with the burrito. The red was in the middle and more liquid. The rice was fine. I also would have ordered an agua fresca, but they don't carry those. They do have Mexican soda. Service was fine. A good choice if you're nearby. It is on the My Family Vet lot but don't use that entrance--look for their flags on the next entrance north.

But they were out of chicken that night, so we got a chorizo gordita and one of each kind of taco. Got an elote (on their menu it's maiz, but same thing) and a horchata agua fresca to go with. The food came with generous toppings of onions, cucumbers, and cilantro. All the meats had great flavor, well cooked in and then reheated on the grill. Pretty tender too. They had a genuine trompo, but the chef did not actually carve the meat off the trompo for my taco. Must have been carved ahead. But the al pastor flavor was very good. The tacos were somewhat small but didn't cost much. The menu is handwritten and doesn't have prices for everything, but the entire meal came to $21 before tip, which is not bad. They take cash and Zelle. Only minor hiccups--it was unfortunate to not get chicken, probably their most popular meat. I wanted a jamaica agua fresca but it was noisy and I like horchata too so I rolled with it. If you're curious it is definitely worth a try. The business is open in the evenings when the taqueria inside Dave's Express is closed. This intersection certainly doesn't lack for food options. There are twelve places you can get food right there--sixTex-Mex (not all open at the same time), Burrito District Cali-Mex, a Central American place, Hippo Burger, Uncle's BBQ, Aloy Aloy (a Thai place), and I-45 Diner. You can get food at Leslie's too, so that's thirteen if you want to count it. And another is going in (Kekas Locas). Quite a bounty.

The wings come highly recommended and I can confirm that they are delicious. The truck has a flame grill (they say charcoal, but the cook was cooking inside the truck and I hope they are not using charcoal that way) and the wings were cooked just right on it. Tender with a nice char. We got all four sauces with our meal and they each bring something different to the food. The harissa sauce is aggressively spiced, you really taste the harissa. The Nomad Sauce is a spicy mix that I believe also has some harissa in it, though not as much. The garlic sauce has plenty of garlic. And there's ranch for the rest of you. The chicken shawarma was cooked very well with authentic spices, topped with the harissa and garlic sauces. It's a nice big portion so you can share or save some for later. Both of our orders came with saffron basmati rice. It was nicely cooked and quite delicious. You can mix the sauces with it and enjoy it that way too. The truck has a nice selection of Mediterranean foods. They have lamb on skewers and as chops. They also have a burger and chicken tenders for those wanting comfort food. They have some specialty drinks on the menu (hibiscus, Mangonade, and a Nomad tea) but those were not available when we came. Service was friendly. The food is cooked to order so be prepared to wait a bit. Definitely worth a try.
