Great food. Truly appreciated the menus that light up. I had a very inexpensive cut of meat (flat iron) and it was cooked to perfection and very tender. Kind of located in the middle of nowhere so if you're drinking get a room and stay over. Beautiful grounds. Busy seat yourself bar on lower level. Quiet dining upstairs. We weren't sure if we would be welcome in this restaurant. However, the very large booth hid our hiking attire. The food was excellent. We started off with Duck Quesadilla and Bison Ravioli appetizers. Both very good with the Duck having a nice spicy bite to it. I had the rainbow trout with a glass of Riesling. Others in my party had the salmon and Prime Ribs. The kids had the grilled cheese. Service was prompt. All had a good time and was impressed by the interior design and motif of the room. Bottom Line: even if you have hiking boots on and smell like a forest fire, you're sure to find a very elegant upscale restaurant in Three Forks, MT. read more

Wow! Rooms are super clean, have thick soft towels, wonderful beds and luxurious sheets. Ate down at the bar and the food was delish. Complimentary glass of champagne at check in. The place smells great... Got to find out which essential oil that is. Also, on the nightstand they place luxury candy, a little bottle of lavender spray for your sheets and ear plugs to help you get a better night's sleep. Shower was possibly the best I've ever had at a hotel, nice pressure, luxury toiletries and even a bathrobe. Wish we had time for a massage before we leave. If you don't stay here you must be nuts! My wife and I received a THREE-fer on this visit. First, we support businesses who have restored significant structures. This was maximized by Sacajawea's stay. This is a great building worthy of preservation and still (built at the turn of the century - XX) very First Class. Second, the hotel stay itself was magical with a great bed, super linens and very cool bathrooms. Third, the restaurant has to be one of the top restaurants in all Montana with a dynamite presentation of delectable delights. Our server Chelsea should be asked for. So, a real THREE-fer. Lovely historic hotel. The hotel was recently renovated (fall 2010). It's the nicest historic hotel that I've visited so far in Montana. The rooms are beautiful and the bathrooms are first rate. There is a TVand phone in the rooms. The wi-fi at the Sacajawea was fast and I didn't have any problems with it. The only drawback is that there is no fitness facility in the hotel. There is a small gym in Three Forks about a block away that I didn't have time to visit. I was at the Sacajawea for a work-related board retreat. The staff was very attentive and the food was good. For a smaller group (10 or fewer), the board room off of the dining room is a great meeting room. The hotel was nice and quiet. We met during the week on the off-season and our group had use of the dining room during our lunch break. The hotel is in town so it's close to other restaurants, gas stations, etc, but there aren't a lot of scenic grounds that you might get at other historical hotels. I would definitely come back. (There are lots of ghost stories about the Sacajawea so that might liven up your stay!) read more

My wife and I have just walked in the house after an extraordinarily bad meal in Pompey's Grill at the Sacajawea Hotel in Three Forks, Montana. I am so offended at the quality of our meal this evening that I feel I must write this review right now. In the past I have placed this restaurant on a pedestal, recommended it, urged friends to go, etc. My last experience was terrific, a great meal, which was well prepared and delicious. Remembering this, and for my wife's birthday tonight, I decided to drive up from Bozeman and have a real treat for her, a great steak at this restaurant. I should have suspected something was up when we asked for the Montana Wagyu daily featured USDA Prime Dry-Aged American Style Kobe Beef by Montana Wagyu Cattle Co. "Um...sorry sir we are out. We are having problems getting meat from them." "Well..OK, how about the Yellowstone Grass-fed Beef Ribeye a 12oz Montana ribeye steak grilled then basted with garlic-rosemary butter then?" "Oh ...sorry sir, we are out of that too. (I am thinking, it is 6:30 Saturday evening and you don't have either of my first two choices?) But she says...we do have a chef's special a 10 oz Denver Cut steak." "OK. Well...I guess we'll have that then." My wife and I have never had a tougher, more flavorless piece of meat with so much gristle in our life. We had a tough time cutting it and even worse chewing it. This was a $30 dollar steak, so we gagged it down. I didn't take it out on our server, this was not her fault and she did a fine job for us. I was not going to waste my time with the chef either, because I am convinced he knew exactly what he was doing...pushing this meat and ripping everyone off. You are completely out of two streak entrée's at a restaurant known for it's great steaks at 6:30 on a Saturday night? Hardly. We were all being conned. The chef bought cheap, poor quality meat to foist on the public at an outrageous price and knows it. It's an old restaurant trick. My wife and I were victims of it. Never again. read more

We stayed at this hotel since I was a bridesmaid in my friends wedding which was held at the Sacajawea Hotel. It has beautiful history and is very unique! Complimentary breakfast was delivered to our room every morning at the time we requested, the showers were large and bathroom contained heaters so getting out of the shower wasn't freezing! There isn't a lot of room to move around since the average rooms are small. The bridal suite was nice and big though! If you are near and can stay I recommend you do! read more

A lovely and beautifully renovated 19th century hotel. Considering that Three Forks is a teeny town with not much going on it's amazing to find a comfortable, stylish and all round high-end hotel here. The hotel lacks some modern amenities - no elevator for instance, so be sure to ask for a ground floor room if stairs are a problem. The rooms are smaller by modern standards so book a suite if you want room. The bathrooms are simple but clean and elegant with a retro-appropriate white tile finish. We didn't get to eat at the restaurant, but enjoyed the bar. A great find, highly recommended. read more

Beautiful old hotel. Loved touring around. It felt like we were transported back to the 1800's. We discovered the downstairs pub, as well. This hotel is beautifully restored historical landmark. Very small rooms , comfortable beds with nice linens, amazing find in this tiny town. The restaurant, pompey's grill was a delightful surprise. We loved the filet with balsamic glaze served with wonderful mashed rosemary potatoes and for dessert, the creme brûlée topped with fresh fruit can't be beat. We went to Pompey's Grill for Thanksgiving and finally, a restaurant that gets it right!! After having been disappointed over and over again at other Bozeman area restaurants, Pompey's Grill exceeded our expectations on service and menu. From start to finish, the attention to detail was evident. The butternut squash soup was piping hot and velvety smooth, the lamb shank was braised properly and full of gorgeous flavors. Now let's talk about the coconut cream pie...simply amazing. I was beginning to think that my expectations were out of line, that competent, professional service and talented chefs were a thing of the past, but the crew at Pompey's Grill has restored my faith in what is possible. ** This is a review of the restaurant Pompey's Grill NOT the hotel itself. ** A simple Case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing: We called & made reservations a week in advance... only time they could get us in was 8pm. That's fine, but we confirmed that the short-term all-you-can-eat crab legs special would be available. They told us "no problem... plenty of crab legs!" So we drove the 100 miles down from Helena for a special date night. We get there at 7:30, check in with the hostess, have a seat at the bar & order a couple drinks. The non-smiling bartender serves us and we go outside to the patio to enjoy the beautiful weather. We finish our drinks, go back inside & notice there are open tables. So naturally we check in with the hostess... a different hostess. She says she didn't know we were here yet. HUH?! We get our table & the waitress politely comes over & explains the night's specials. We were hungry, 8:15pm and all, so we just ordered. That's when she tells us the crab legs special ends at 8pm. We got up & left! What a treat to stay here! My husband had changed his mind about driving all the way to Bozeman for a place to stay and so we pulled off the freeway to check out lodgings in the area. This is a gorgeous hotel and they pay attention to details! We were greeted with lavender scented washcloths and complementary champagne upon check-in. The rooms were well-furnished and comfortable. The wi-fi was the best we had had in Montana. The breakfast was simple, but fresh and delicious served to you personally in your room. The wraparound porch made me want to move in! Since it was late, we ate downstairs in the bar and had a delicious meal. Check out Three Forks State Park across the freeway if you enjoy history. What a surprise to find this kind of quality in Three Forks, MT. The hotel is surprising just on its own, but the dinner was a treat. I made my last attempt to enjoy kal by ordering the kale and avocado salad. Truly one of the best starter salads I've ever had. Try the prime beef while in MT. Love this place! The cocktails are dangerously good, and the menu never disappoints. The best part about this place? ALL YOU CAN EAT KING CRAB on Sunday nights. That's right people. Its super affordable for what you get, $35 a person last time I went, you get bread, soup, salad, and a all the sides (but don't fill up!) because the crab is all you can eat, don't forget! Also a favorite, the Coconut Cream Pie, don't pass it up! Take it to go if you are too full from you crab experience. You won't be sorry! The steaks are also amazing. The service is on point, and the atmosphere is super cool! My husband also proposed to me here! We have been many times, and will continue to do so! Great date night! read more

Stayed here a while back while on business in three forks. It is a historic hotel, so you are not going to get every amenities of a modern hotel, but i found it to be very charming. My room did not have a TV, but it wasn't so bad as it forced me to go out. Only problem i had that kept me from giving it a better rating was they had closed there restaurant, bu did not indicate so on there website when i booked it. read more

The Sac is a restored beautiful old hotel with an amazing menu. We started our evening at the cozy bar. Bartender was friendly but not intrusive. The dining area was elegant yet warm. I did find the restaurant a bit loud for a romantic dinner. However, there were two large parties near us and luckily they left before our appetizer arrived. The menu is creative but not too creative (i.e. not a pine nut in site). I liked the option of a half order on entrees. The steak was perfectly prepared and the short ribs melted in my mouth. The chef knows how to balance favors. Our server was attentive and knew the menu well. The price was fair and we didn't feel gouged for such a lovely meal. Was dissapointed in lunch. In previous years had eaten nice lunch in upstairs bar. Very good and nice old hotel atmosphere. Today we were led to a very dark , dingy bar in the basement which is where they now serve lunches. Big screen TV was on and it was very cold in the room. I ordered a well done burger, which came out way too hard on a stale bun. It is possible for a competent chef to cook a well done burger that still tastes good. My friend ordered medium but hers was extra well done as well. The sweet potato fries were very good. When we walked in the front door of the hotel, the smell of potpourri was overwhelming and very off putting. I can only think the positive reviews are for dinner rather than lunch but I am reluctant to go back and I really miss the luches provided in the past. read more

We scored with this find! I was planning our roadtrip from CA to MT to move our son into his dorm at MSU, when I stumbled across the Sacajawea Hotel. I found that the usual hotel/motels had jacked up their rates for the big freshman migration, and that I could get a room at this much more pleasant hotel for a similar price. Due to a Hotels.com error, the room I originally booked was not available; however, I contacted the hotel directly and they were so accommodating that I booked the room for 5 nights. Beautiful historic building! We arrived and the night manager offered us a tray of warm washcloths to "wipe off the road," along with glasses of champagne. The hotel features two restaurants and bars, and live music on the weekends. The complimentary breakfast is brought to your room- or if you choose, to the large wrap around porch, which was comfortably outfitted. The bed was made up each night with a pieces of local huckleberry chocolate placed on the pillows, along with a lavender spritz for the pillows to help you unwind. The bed was remarkably comfortable. We will definitely return. read more

If I could I would give it negative stars, but one will have to do. My boyfriend and I went in for dinner one Sunday evening after a along day. We decided to get all fancy and go out for a nice treat, we got dressed up and drove into three forks from willow creek to enjoy the fine dining experience I had heard SUCH amazing things about!! We were seated by the lady at the front desk at a booth in the bar area, for we hadn't made reservations. We were seated around 8:10. At first the bartender and bar back were busy serving drinks and food, so we waited patiently like any one would. We sat and waited for service for 25 minutes without either the bartender or the barback ever asking us if we would even like something to drink or if we would like a menu. They stood around for a good part of the time throwing snotty looks at us and and wiping wine glasses clean. There was also quite a few servers that walked by, they would look at our empty table and would continue walking. (at least some of them smiled!) My boyfriend was furious at this point and was ready to leave, but I insisted on staying because I had heard such excellent things about the place!!Finally the lady that had originally sat us who was working the front desk happened to walk by us, she stopped before she did anything else and asked if we had been helped because it was obvious we had not. She suggested we sit at the bar instead. Once again my boyfriend would had preferred leaving where as I wanted to give them another chance. We sat up at the bar where the barback was still wiping glasses clean. She then proceeded to set her glass down, grabbed two reserved signs and walked all the way around to the booths we were just sitting at placed them on the tables she then returned to her spot behind the bar grabbed her very important wine glass again, looked over at us with one of the most disgusted looks on her face, chomps her gum like a cow and says in a snotty California girl voice, "The bartender will be with you in just a minute." Whips her hair around and continues wiping all those water stains away! When the bartender returned I was hoping maybe the barback was just having a bad day and the bartender would be happy to serve us like she was to everyone else in the bar. Instead we get an attitude with her too, since it was already 8:35 and we wanted dinner menus. This was the point neither of us could handle anymore! We left immediately! I went in the following day to speak with a manager just to make it aware to them the service is terrible!! She wasn't there but I left a message with the front desk and Hilary the manager got back to me within two days, she was very nice and apologetic about our experience and insisted on trying to make it right with a gift certificate, which I was very appreciative for their concern on my complaint!! Instead once again I was INSULTED with a gift certificate that will NOT even comp two of their meals! Two thumbs down! Returning the gift certificate, and never recommending to anyone who may ask! I will send them to the Willow Creek Cafe instead where they're happy to serve their customers!! read more

I was extremely dissatisfied when I stayed there last night. Our room was nice enough but the room had not been thoroughly cleaned, there was even a nasty blood stain on the wall in the bathroom in a very obvious spot. When we booked our room we were unaware that we would be staying directly above the bar which had a band playing until 1am, and when we checked in no one told us. Between that, the people running up and down the stairs outside our windows and some commotion in the lobby next to our room from 4-530 this morning, my toddler, husband and I did not get much sleep. We will not be going back. read more
