I called the front desk and the staff were able to fit me in for a time slot that had openings. It's been a hot minute since I've been on Long Island; I had forgotten how deep Melville actually was...lol Literally on the border of Nassau and Suffolk. This location had a large parking lot that was shared with the other businesses adjacent. Inside, the courts feel pretty big, with plenty of room on the sides and back to maneuver and run for difficult shots. Court surfaces are smooth and well maintained and the facilities are very clean. Ceiling height was adequate for most lobs to be successful. People I played with were mostly friendly and competitive. One thing I was not expecting was how old the demographic here is; my estimate, the average age in that time slot I played in was 55-60. Nevertheless, this was a nice facility to play at. I don't know if I'll ever go back though because it's so far out of the way coming from Queens.

Being a beginner, I knew I was bad and Danny sure didn't hold back in reminding me of that!…read more From the very beginning, Danny seemed impatient and easily irritated, almost as if he didn't want to be there. His instructions were often difficult to understand and he'd get annoyed when I'd ask clarifying questions. The lessons involved presenting rather difficult concepts in whole (e.g. the entire golf swing), and then observing my attempts at it. Each mistake was met with visible frustration, putting me in a constant state of unease, which felt counterproductive to the learning process. In moments when I could have used guidance, he'd let out a big sigh or resort to periods of silence, increasing my anxiety and self-consciousness. His reactions were so harsh that I found myself constantly apologizing for making the slightest of mistakes. During the second lesson (of my life btw!), he actually yelled, "Oh my God" in frustration after I missed a shot. Talk about a confidence killer! I couldn't believe that a PGA pro that was being paid to teach would have that kind of a reaction to a total beginner missing a shot. The fact that I miss shots was the very point of why I was taking lessons in the first place! Plus, it was super embarrassing as there were many people around us. Ultimately, Danny's tendency to respond rudely and condescendingly to my beginner-level mistakes was deflating, and led to a decrease in my motivation to practice and continue learning with him. Although I prepaid for 5 lessons, after the second one, I was done. Despite the financial loss, the thought of enduring another session was more agonizing. I was excited to start learning golf, this was supposed to be a way to unwind and have fun. Regrettably, and despite the positive reviews, this was not my experience. I don't like leaving bad reviews, but I felt like I had to let people know what they might be getting into, especially since his lessons aren't cheap. I really hope Danny can take this feedback into consideration and change the way he teaches to be more supportive to us golf newbies.

Oh my how times have changed!…read more I used to buy equipment here a while back but due to "life" I haven't played golf in about 3 years. So I stopped by there the other day and was shocked! I was the only customer in the store and the 2 employees were sitting there chatting. They greeted me and I went to look around. On the wall where there used to be 75-100 sets of irons to look at there were about 10. In the putting area that used to be full of putters to try it looked like the milk section of a supermarket right before a hurricane...bare! They did have a lot of golf apparel and golfing bric-a-brac though. All the Golfsmiths are closed and now this, so I don't know what the deal is. I don't know if it is the new PGA Superstore or online shopping but it's looking pretty sad out there.
