From the initial consultation, we were drawn to Sachi & Maja over other planners because Lisa brought a lot of excitement about our concept. Then we got linked with Maggie who was a dream to work with. We got married in May 2026 and opted for full planning as our wedding idea was a bit out of the ordinary with the dance floor being replaced with bunch of other entertainment, meaning coordinating with a bunch of separate vendors. It also narrowed down which venues would fit our needs, but Maggie found a bunch of options for us, finding even more until we were 100% sure. That was basically how all of the vendor picking went and it was really easy to be able to choose from a filtered list of solid picks. Maggie really helped turn our concept into reality. We basically described the vibes of the vision we were going for and Maggie showed us a design deck that was 90% there. We discussed a few tweaks and then showed up to our wedding exactly as it was imagined in our heads! Maggie was also our day-of coordinator and the day was completely stress free (not an exaggeration - if anything was going wrong, we never knew about it). She had put together a full schedule for all the vendors and us which was easy to follow even when we weren't together (Maggie was at the venue super early to coordinate set up while bridal party was doing beauty). 2.5 stars. This post is to help couples make an informed decision about Sachi & Maja. We paid for partial planning. TLDR: S&M may be better suited for smaller events with fewer vendors and simpler design. For our multi-layered event in May 2026 requiring proactive management, detailed coordination, and high-level organization, we found the services did not meet the standards promised in our contract. Pros: Our assigned planner was personable and willing to help. She coordinated vendors, created 3 layouts for our wedding weekend (only 1 was required), ran rehearsal & venue/showroom visits, picked up a birthday cake outside her scope, folded napkins the night before, and was receptive to feedback and improvement during the process. Cons 1. Design services were delayed and not fully delivered Our contract included event design services and a completed design plan. We had our first design meeting in mid-July, but did not receive a design presentation until late October (~3.5 months later). We were shown a partial design deck, but we never received the deck itself (partial or final) despite asking for it. The client dashboard link to the deck also remained broken throughout. 2. Vendor sourcing support was limited and delayed I sourced ~90% of our vendors and only requested help with florals and ceremony sound. After a planned leave, the planner gave us floral quotes in mid-November (over a month after her return). Of 3 options, one florist was unavailable and another did not provide delivery or on-site setup (both non-starters). Further, sound options were not provided. We ultimately had to source both florist and ceremony sound ourselves. 3. Guest flow and cocktail hour were not effectively managed Guest flow was within the planner's scope, but guests were not guided to the cocktail lawn after the ceremony. Multiple guests reported confusion and went directly to the reception area. The oyster vendor also confirmed guests bypassed the cocktail space. As a result, expensive key elements--an oyster station and floral arrangements--were largely unseen. Oysters had to be discarded and guests later expressed dismay at missing it. 4. Décor execution failures Weeks before the event, I provided detailed written décor instructions, especially for pieces that I had spent months sourcing. I asked the planner several times to confirm that my directions were clear, and I asked about her plan to execute. Despite her reassurances, key items were never used. Discovering these high-effort, expensive elements still unused after the event was heartbreaking and a waste of significant resources. 5. Communication and organization issues There were recurring delays in communication and there was apparent difficulty tracking information already provided. Emails were oftentimes delayed or noted as being "stuck in outbox." We received little proactive guidance on vendor & rental timelines and had to determine many milestones ourselves. I gave her full access to emails, contracts, and other key information, yet I was asked for information already provided. For example, I shared a Google Sheets seating chart (w/ guest counts, dietary restrictions, table assignments), yet she later asked for RSVP counts. In another case, I provided a detailed rental revision list to her, and she forwarded incorrect revisions. I scrambled to review her email to ID all required corrections. I gave her feedback, and she made efforts to improve afterward. 6. Weather and guest comfort planning felt reactive For our outdoor daytime event in Sonoma, we repeatedly raised concerns about shade and umbrellas, incl. warnings from the rental company about limited availability in May. The venue also recommended renting umbrellas. By the time the planner tried to add them, inventory was limited, requiring time-consuming substitutions. We ultimately had to purchase an umbrella and stand ourselves to avoid further delays. We had a frank conversation with S&M post-event. Out of the $11,800 fee we paid for the partial planning package, Lisa (the owner) initially offered to return the tip I had given to the planner plus $450 from her personal account as the refund. I shared with her that $450 was not sufficient given the scope/degree of the issues and that the tip shouldn't count towards the refund. She later sent me an additional $1,350 (for a total refund of $1,800). Lisa told me she wasn't involved in the process, so no real supervision had taken place. We chose S&M to help alleviate the stress of a complex event. Unfortunately, we felt like we had to supervise and check the planner's work and proactively dedicate the level of attention to our event that we didn't feel we were getting. While the planner was receptive to feedback, execution on the day of the event did not reflect the level of management and organization that we expected based on our contract. We were lucky enough to have Lisa lead us through our initial intake call and first planning meeting, which set us up for success. She sat with us to align our timeline with the one from our photographer (shoutout to Blurred Lines Photography!) and coordinated seamlessly with all of our vendors, which was such a relief. About a month before the wedding, Alyssa joined us for our venue's final walkthrough, and that's when everything started transforming from concept to reality. She offered just the right amount of input on the timeline, layout, and logistics--things we had considered but hadn't fully finalized. In the final days leading up to the wedding, she was incredibly present and supportive. She sent out our coordination email to vendors, scheduled a last check-in call to tie up loose ends, and was flexible in helping us find a rehearsal time. Having that level of support gave us peace of mind and the ability to focus on the remaining details. Everyone says that things will go wrong on your wedding day, and that you just have to roll with it. But looking back, our day felt flawless. Alyssa and her day of team, Austin and David, not only had perfect control over the flow of events but also made sure my husband and I were cared for--happy, fed, and well hydrated. When my dress train picked up some dirt during photos, Alyssa pulled white chalk from her bag so my bridesmaids could cover the stains. When we requested on-the-fly schedule adjustments, her communication with the vendors was seamless. She was so prepared to roll with anything that came her way, and she handled everything with such grace. Our wedding was the best day of our lives, and we are endlessly grateful to the entire team for everything they did to make it perfect. My husband and I truly wish we could relive it again and again. We got married on November 4, 2023 at the Asian Art Museum and Sachi & Maja helped us with both month-of coordination and florals! We had high expectations for Sachi & Maja based on glowing reviews and the promise of a seamless, well-executed wedding day. We went with the month-of coordination package, which was supposed to include a "passing of the baton" service, and felt confident after our meetings with our coordinator, whom we felt really understood our vision. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we envisioned and we were deeply disappointed by the lack of coordination and follow-through. Despite our best efforts to organize everything ahead of time, many aspects of the event--including the cocktail hour setup, the popcorn bar, and the dessert display--were mishandled or completely overlooked. We trusted that our coordinator, who was supposed to be in charge of managing the staff, would ensure everything ran smoothly, but unfortunately, there wasn't much direction or leadership from our coordinator, and as a result, things didn't get done as planned. It showed in the final outcome, which ended up looking disorganized and unprofessional. In addition, during the breakdown, which we had no intention of being physically involved in, we ended up doing most of the work ourselves, and even still incurred additional charges from our venue due to improper breakdown, leading to a stressful end to what was meant to be a joyful celebration. While we did receive a partial refund, it doesn't change the fact that our wedding day was marred by a lack of leadership, communication, and attention to detail from our coordinator and her team. We are deeply disappointed, and while we hope this feedback leads to improvements, the emotional toll of this experience cannot be undone. read more

Starting with the conclusion: I wholeheartedly recommend Lisa and her team to anyone who is looking anywhere remotely close to wedding planning. Their team provides top notch planning, incredible levels of detail, consistent communication and some of the best service I've ever received in my life . During our honeymoon my wife told me that she wishes we booked them for the full package instead of just the month of, as it would've reduced so much stress - I fully agree. We booked them originally because they had knowledge of our wedding venue, but our experience working with them was beyond what I expected. We used the month of plan but began to communicate on a regular basis 3 months prior to the wedding. The spreadsheets and level of detail that they provided was extremely helpful in making sure that we weren't missing anything during our wedding prep. This helped us make sure that we had all our bases covered while doing our own planning. Once Lisa and her team stepped in, they were able to efficiently email and introduce themselves to all the vendors and handled all the communication between themselves and the vendors. We also had 3-4 check ins with Lisa and her team to make sure we had questions answered and everything accounted for. They were able to help us set up a seating arrangement and even helped us buy umbrellas for our rain contingency plan! Lisa had a solution or suggestion for nearly everything (where to rent tents from, where to put up welcome signs and cocktail tables, which tables would look better for the space, etc.). It was great to get clear answers from their experience, rather than "it's up to you". Lisa and her team drafted the day-of timeline for us. This timeline was so comprehensive yet legible - and all of our wedding party and vendors used it as the point of reference. During the day of, the team was able to handle all the logistics and we barely had to do anything! We even made a last minute table seating change, which Lisa's team incorporated without problem. The wedding day was well-coordinated, and Lisa's team made sure we were on schedule. Beyond the incredible logistical planning of Lisa and her team, it is just a joy to work and interact with them. During calls, they are always positive, friendly and solution-oriented. Throughout the whole process, instead of talking to a wedding planner, it felt like we were talking to a friend. Lastly, they genuinely make you feel as if your wedding is the top priority - it's hard for me to imagine how much effort and work they must go through to make all their clients feel this way. read more

I am writing this review on the flight to my honeymoon, two days after my wedding - which is a testament to how much I love the Sachi and Maja team. Before I got married I had heard the best thing you can do for your wedding is hire an incredible month of team, but you really don't realize how much of a significant difference they make in your day and guest experiences until you get married. Especially if you are having a small mostly DIY wedding like us, you might feel like it is a luxury or expense that cannot be afforded. We initially felt that way, but I am so glad we prioritized things to make it work. They could not have made our day better, especially our lead planner Maggie. They handled all of the month of vendor coordination, event set up in two locations, and provided clear guidance and direction. I felt like the guest of honor at my wedding, not the host. David and I hired the wedding planning team at Sachi & Maja - Maggie Chen (Lead Planner and Designer) with Jolene Hsu (Lead Planner) and Lisa Tsubouchi (CEO + Creative Director + Florals) - in January 2024, eight months prior to our wedding date. We selected their partial planning package with slight modifications to account for the fact that we were planning a Bay Area wedding while living in Washington DC. Planning a wedding long distance in an area of the country that only 50% of the couple is especially familiar with can become overwhelming very quickly. After doing a venue search using Google, I landed on the Redwood Grove at the UC Botanical Garden in Berkeley, which listed Sachi & Maja as one of their preferred wedding planning teams. Thank goodness. Best Internet search ever. After meeting with Lisa and then Maggie, we hired the team and gained access to their invaluable list of recommended Bay Area vendors and a planning team who not only executed our wedding plans with the highest levels of professionalism, but who also became friends with us throughout the process. We communicated with Maggie and Jolene regularly, using email and the Aisle Planner website, and met with them via Google Meet once a month prior to the wedding. In June 2024, we met Maggie and Jolene in person in Berkeley, CA. The four of us did the tasting at our reception site at the Berkeley City Club (BCC) followed by a full walkthrough of the venue and discussion of the event with the head of BCC's catering and event operations. Maggie knew all of the right questions to ask, which, no doubt, led to us having a successful (and beautiful) wedding reception. Of note, BCC presented multiple challenges immediately prior to the event, including a change to their head of catering and event operations approximately four weeks before our wedding. Maggie handled this transition smoothly by increasing her communication with the venue in order to ensure that BCC honored everything that they had previously agreed to. She handled day-of snafus at BCC professionally, discreetly, and made sure that they did not disrupt the event in any noticeable way. Maggie designed the entire event - linens, flatware, signage, color scheme - and worked directly with Lisa on florals to ensure that everything coordinated perfectly. Her month-of coordination and day-of execution were pretty extraordinary. Everything started on time. All vendors showed up and provided the highest levels of service. Even the smallest details, like getting the corsages and boutonnieres to the wedding party prior to the ceremony but not too far in advance or collecting wedding gifts at the end of the evening, were executed perfectly. Above all else, David and I really felt like we had people helping us who were equally invested in the success of the event. Maggie and Jolene were supportive, thoughtful, kind, and they even weighed in on things like the color of David's tie when asked. When I was nervous about the fit of my dress, both Maggie and Jolene quickly assured me that they knew how to sew and could take care of any last minute issues with the wedding gown. They made sure that there was breakfast and coffee (!!) delivered to my bridal suite, that David and I had a few moments of downtime between the ceremony and reception, and that guests made it either on to the shuttle to the hotel following the reception or to the after party. Working with Lisa was a dream. When my husband and I started our wedding planning journey we had calls with 5 different wedding planners. Lisa truly stood out and we never once thought twice about our decision to move forward with the Sachi & Maja Partial Planning package. She has such a supportive and calming presence, her organizational tools are goals, her industry connections are invaluable, she is simply a gem. I acted as a wedding planner for three dear friends and knew I wanted to pass off allllll the stressful aspects of my wedding to someone else. Making the choice to spend a significant portion of our wedding budget on a planner was something I needed to convince my now husband about, he wasn't sure. Luckily I'm persuasive and he wound up being super grateful to have her on board. During our wedding rehearsal Lisa had a brilliant idea and he exclaimed, "You are worth every penny!" The fact that the ONLY stressful part of our whole wedding (planning and the actual wedding day) was that our guest list got bigger than originally anticipated, and that was all my fault and ended up working out, is a testament to her vision, skills & spirit. One delightful surprise we found working with Lisa are her "client hangs". She's had two so far where past and present clients as well as any of her staff who are up for it get together and hang out! The fact that we were psyched to join these says a lot about her as a person and businesswoman. The first one we went to was at a cafe close to our home in Berkeley and we were blown away that former clients-- get this -- a couple who had already gotten married, drove from the city over to Berkeley on a Sunday afternoon to see her! The following one was in the city and I shocked myself by wanting to go! :) She also has "vendor hangs" where all of the wedding industry folks she's connected with get together. I'm almost certain this includes other wedding planners-- her competitors! What a gal. In this same vein, all of the recommended vendors from her team were absolutely fantastic and total professionals. Lisa has a magnetic personality and though I've only met 4 of them, I am certain the whole team she has built at Sachi & Maja is fantastic. And, one of the people on our "day of team" was a former groom! And I'm trying to work for her too! Hopefully you won't have any regrets about your wedding planning process and your big day. We hired Sachi & Maja for month of coordination, and had Kaitlin as our lead planner. She was absolutely spectacular. I felt so taken care of with an expert who knew exactly what details to think through that I had missed, and was a prepared expert on the day-of. We ended up switching from an outdoor setup to an indoor setup right before the ceremony started due to a surprise drizzle and cold front, and Kaitlin handled that transition with the facility staff flawlessly. Kaitlin's team was able to push for direction where I hadn't thought about it, and then execute in ambiguity on the day of. An anecdote to demonstrate how perfect it was (among many) -- there were two cars to load stuff out at the end of the night, and we had given vague general instructions awhile previously that it would be good to load one of the cars with any extra food and anything that would be useful for an event we had the next day, and everything else in the other car. This was executed absolutely perfectly, and I woke up the next morning not having to worry about gathering stuff we needed for that day from the other car. Lisa is fantastic! We hired her as our day-of coordinator for our wedding. While we constantly worked ourselves into a frantic lather trying to handle as many moving pieces as possible, Lisa helped keep us organized, calm, and on-track. Our calls with her were professional and reassuring, and she provided many of the frameworks necessary to get to and through the day. She managed all our vendors with ease and respect, and perhaps the greatest compliment we got after the ceremony from all vendors was that they enjoyed working with us and Lisa. On the day of, we had a problem with our shuttle service and Lisa deftly handled it without us having to worry and even after the fact tried to help us get a refund. We really enjoyed working with her and she was like our personal Google maps helping us navigate a pretty stressful and frenetic process without batting an eye. She even helped ensure DJ Spotify (aka my playlist) was hooked up during the reception and ready to go. I learned about Sachi & Maja through Emi Grannis, a SF local metalsmith and another fabulous maker. Grannis had shared some flowers that Lisa from Sachi & Maja arranged. I started following Sachi & Maja's Instagram account (@sachiandmaja) because they make lovely flower bouquets! I love creating flower arrangements for my friends and loved ones and needed some inspiration while WFH. There was a post on Sachi & Maja's Instagram, detailing bouquet deliveries in the SF bay area for the upcoming weekend. In private messages, Lisa and I discussed pricing and delivery schedule. She even asked if I wanted to include a note with my bouquet, which I did! She handwrote my message, adding a lovely touch to the whole experience. The bouquet delivery went smoothly. Lisa let me know when was going to be late due to bay area traffic. I didn't mind at all since the recipient of the bouquet was going to be home anyways. The bouquet turned out beautiful. My mom loved the flowers chosen and the little calamansi/citrus fruit in the bouquet. The bouquet made her so happy. I only wish I lived closer to her delivery area so that I could have her bouquets in my home. I'll definitely get flowers from her in the future! read more

Lisa was both the planner and florist for our daughters April 2023 wedding. She was precisely what the kids (and their parents) needed - a calm, competent, knowledgeable force in a complex situation. She listened well to the bride and groom and helped them shape an experience that reflected their unique desires. She kept the entire enterprise on track. She reassured the bride and groom when they were making decisions that were outside their comfort zone. When, three weeks before the wedding, an atmospheric river forcibly closed the venue for the wedding ceremony, she lined up alternatives within 48 hours and led the bride and groom through a rational replanning exercise. If anything, the new venue worked better than the original venue. Lisa and her staff were calm, omnipresent but not imposing, and always on top of the details. She lowered the stress on the bride, the groom, and the parents. I cannot imagine having planned and executed this wedding without her. read more

In short, Lisa from Sachi & Maja is THE BEST. We had originally planned our wedding for May of 2020. From the start, Lisa did an awesome job of finding a balance between providing helpful guidance and listening to what we wanted. Of course, then COVID happened and everything went up in the air. Lisa was amazing at working with our vendors to figure out plans B, C, and D... We then ended up doing a small wedding in our backyard in March of 2021. Of course we worked with Lisa and she pulled together a beautiful, intimate ceremony for our close family. Finally, we ended up having our big ceremony with family and friends in August of 2021. Lisa was fantastic at adapting our original plans for the new date and new realities of COVID (in the interim our venue had gone out of business!). She did amazing florals for our ceremony and she made sure that everything went off without a hitch.
