Picture of Sacramento history museum where Alexis says you can take a pic and maybe see something suspicious.

3.5- 4 stars The not great: The meetup location moved to in front of the restrooms so that was easy to find (if you checked the email not the website) but aromatic. Check in was 7:45 to start at 8. Alexis showed up around 8:10. Fast talking and almost mumbling at times was challenging. If you go on a Friday in October, the movie night event can impede on their tour. If it had started on time, we may have missed the movie ending though while we were at the Eagle Theater where they tear down. You're told the 30 min extra time you pay for is really 15 or so minutes and only a couple stories. Was the bonus tour worth it? The one major story was good. Any else felt more glossed over or were recommendations what to look up or watch documentaries on. The good: Alexis seemed to really love talking about history and the drama that comes with ghost stories and "Scandals, Shadows, and Secrets." Showed concern and commented on cars and music that went by while she paused to make sure she didn't have to talk over it. Some stories were pretty cool. I only doubt the accuracy due to some other reviews here. She always made sure we were safe crossing the street, that the group was all together, and that the mic worked for everyone. Overall, it's ok. I'd say maybe not go on a Friday/Saturday night bc of noise and other events but that's exactly when you do want to go. Same for going in October. Other events in spots they want to stop at but it's spooky season so of course that's when you want to go. I really had a good time with who I was with so that made it 100% worth it.

Caught this weird little greenish orb light at bottom center of my picture. It was pretty dark out there.

I would recommend ghost tour. Lydia was our guide. She was awesome. She had so much information about the history of the buildings. Our EMfF detector was going off like crazy in certain locations. It was really cool. Caught this weird little greenish orb light at bottom center of my picture. It was pretty dark out there.

We did the Boos & Booze Haunted Pub Crawl with a small group of friends. We had the best time with our tour guide Jack! So much fun hearing about the haunted history while making stops at the local bars in between. Would definitely recommend.

Tons of fun and very informative. Learned a lot of cool things that I didn't know before. Gabby unfolded the stories well and clearly.

Excellent experience. Rusty was very welcoming and shared the interesting and infamous history of Sacramento. Several sites were visited and interpreted. The walk around town was fun, not to long, and the people watching is great. Many thanks to Rusty for spending his time and sharing his expertise. Highly recommended.

Had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful Emma. She is a great tour guide. She knew her history information about Sacramento well and had a charming personality. We walked to about 7 locations. It was about an hour in length. If you like learning about the history of Sacramento and some haunting chills this is for you! This reminded me of a similar tour I did in Salem Massachusetts. It was easy to find her at the meeting point. She didn't have the USGA black T shirt on but she was wearing all black with a lantern so I spotted her easily. I would recommend this night tour to anyone. Great experience with Emma!

If we had more time, we would have taken one of the public tours, which usually last 45 minutes to an hour. We went up to the 4th floor thinking we might be able to listen in on the State Assembly session, but because of time constraints we had to leave and made our way down through the 3rd floor, 2nd floor, lobby, and basement. There's a lot to see, including the 1st floor Rotunda and county exhibits, the 2nd floor Senate and Assembly Chambers plus historic Governor's offices, and the 3rd floor portraits. There's definitely more to explore, and I'd like to revisit the California State Capitol Museum on another Sacramento day trip.

My review is focusing on this specifically, due to the significance of the internment in my family's life. Information specific to the book / this event: The Ireichō is a book listing every person of Japanese ancestry incarcerated in the World War II camps. The Ireichō is currently making its way across various stops in the US, allowing family members and those that knew the incarcerated to stamp their loved ones names as a way to honor them and what they endured and their strength. After the tour, the book will be gifted to the Japanese American National Museum (in LA). The stamping of the Ireichō occurred inside the main entrance of the museum, and the museum graciously allowed those stamping the book to tour the rest of the museum. Museum staff and the staff hosting the event were very welcoming. The museum itself has both long-term and short-term exhibits, listed on their website. It's fitting that they currently have a temporary exhibit at this time called, "Kokoro: The Story of Sacramento's Lost Japantown", from December 20, 2025 to March 29, 2026. If you're interested in some of CA's history, it makes for a nice stop. It is Downtown Sac, so it's all paid street parking or lots in the vicinity. There is a lot right across the street.
