The only reason I went to the restaurant is due to the article. Please stop your false advertising. You are only hurting the business. I will be canceling my subscription. I'm breathing an enormous sigh of relief at the several one-stars this "magazine" is getting. Thank god. I mean, I know I'm whacky, but at least it's not just me in this case. Ok, so how many freaking times can you devote an entire issue of magazine to FOOD. How many times? Well, if you're Sacramento Magazine, roughly 10 issues a year. "Best Hamburger in Sacramento," "Top 10 Places for a Romantic Meal." "Top 14 Restaurants In the South-Westish Corner of Suburbia Sacramento." WTF. There's so much more here than FOOD! And then they did the wedding issue. They interviewed several of us who gave more than enough material to write an informational story on getting married in Sacramento. What did they do? Well. They gave that entire section to House of Fashion, which I imagine paid them supremely to do so. And if you really wanna know about House of Fashion, you can see my review on that hellhole, too. I cancelled my subscription to this magazine about 6 months after starting it. Get a clue, Sacramento Mag. No one gives a damn about yet another "benefit," and "Who's Who" around Sacramento. This magazine is blatantly an overgrown ad monster. None of the reviews have any credibility. It's obvious that all of the "Best of" awards are merely huge paid advertisments. I would hate for someone who didn't know much about Sacramento learn about it from reading this magazine. It'll probably leave the impression that the 'best' thing that Sacramento has to offer is a bunch of chain restaurants. I would suggest one try the new SacTown Magazine...they seem less biased. read more

I can't blame the writers too much- they're just putting together the stories so they can get paid. However, the editors, and publishers all need to be horsewhipped in public twice daily for at least a month. Never in my life have I ever encountered a publication so out-of-touch with a city it supposedly is about. read more

Sacramento Magazine is a precious resource for those who are ready to look a little deeper into the happenings in their city. I've read the criticisms about too many ads and not enough content (how else do you expect a magazine to survive in the computer age?), and while this may be true, the content is still valuable. When I initially came to Sactown, I was able to find almost everything I needed in calenders posted in free weeklies and online. But after tiring of the more popular tourist locales I needed something else. Sacmag will give me an in depth scoop on great places to eat, shop and enjoy what the city has to offer. Best of all, it's a magazine that maintains a certain standard of glitz and glamour conveyed through beautiful photographs and solid writing. The annual subscription price is inexpensive. More like half a star. I got this as a gift subscription from an ill informed but sweet family member. Although my prior experience has only been in doctors offices, I have to say that this is the worst magazine ever. It makes Sacramento look like a place out of hell. Really. Favorite places to eat being In N Out Burger and best taco Chipotle or best pizza Round Table??? you get my drift. It's also basically one huge glossy advertisement which I cannot stand. LAME! This magazine clearly caters to the older, strip-mall, chain store set. The "editorial" staff is completely out of touch with this town. Nothing in this magazine speaks to the real things happening in Sacramento. For example the Best Grocery Stores issue covered all the mega grocery stores - Safeway, Raley's, WALMART (WALMART?!!!) and omitted The Food Co-op, Taylors and Corti Brothers! (I was shocked that they didn't even include a sidebar to highlight the amazing old-school, mom and pop grocery stores.) They of course pandered to their advertisers. If I see another Sacramento Best of list that includes PF Changs, Macaroni Grill, Jamba Juice, and Subway I am gonna go postal - for real. read more

I always enjoy reading Sacramento magazine. I have also attended some of their sponsored events and find them to be cool. They cover so many different events and I look forward to checking out their Snapshots section each issue. Right now I am looking forward to reading the Best Dressed article that has just come out. The other thing I like is that they have a website that keeps me current on goings on about town. Through them I found out about the Too Hot To Handle event coming up this Saturday. Great resource for information on the Sacramento area!

I'm surprised to see so many negative, angry reviews about this magazine but no publication is going to please everyone who stumbles upon it. I subscribed to Sacramento Magazine for several years and only finally let my subscription lapse because I couldn't keep up with any of my magazine subscriptions anymore. I always enjoyed reading it, though, and while I have to admit it seems pretty heavy on advertising generally and plastic surgery in particular, I find a lot of the articles interesting and well-written. I've gotten lots of good ideas about places to see and eat from Sac Mag. It would be nice to see more of things that are off the beaten path; everything has room for improvement but I think it's a good magazine. read more

Wow pretty harsh. I do agree that Sac Mag needs to step it up some, but you can't blame the mag for basically doing its job. Its readers are what make it what it is now and if you want to see it change, then complain to them! I personally like the magazine however I wish I would see more editorial focusing on less motherly/women issues. read more

We love this magazine and for someone who actually lives in Sac and has all my life I find it to be a great guide to fun! My husband and I love to flip through the restaurant reviews and find new local places to dine at on the weekends. The Best of Sacramento party that they host every year is SO.MUCH.FUN! Yes it's heavy on the ads but I guess thats one of my favorite things to look at to get ideas of things to go and eat. Their Wedding Magazine is amazing! Better then any other Northern CA wedding magazine. All my girlfriends have used it while planning their weddings. read more

Like many of the commenters, I tried to give this magazine an opportunity; however I eventually canceled my subscription as it just wasn't fitting "me" and the rich offerings of a diverse Sacramento. Granted we're no where near the cultural happenings of San Francisco, but we're trying and this magazine doesn't seem to be addressing that. Unless it's in Roseville, GB, Rocklin, Folsom or East Sac, it's not being discussed. Too bad. read more

Sacramento Magazine ensures that residents and visitors know what there is to do around the area withou being cliche. Their restaurant picks are great, their article informative. I found the best barre studio owened by a local sac resident! Not one of those big corporate run places. I think SacMag is a good magazine. I won't say "great," mostly due to the excessive advertising, but it certainly is a good publication that does some interesting articles. Does the content get old sometimes, sure, but generally, they do a good job about the events in town and good places to go. They are, after all, a small, local business, and they are successful. They cater to Sacramento in general, and while I will never be a part of the glitzy crowd, I take out of the magazine what is good for me and leave the rest. Over all, I think they're doing a decent job. I do think they need to venture a little further afield with the "Best of" and focus on local only in that regard, but otherwise, not bad. read more

I was surprised to see so many 1 star reviews? We have subscribed to the magazine for a while now and like the best of Sacramento stuff. This is a fun 100% local magazine, and we enjoy looking at it. After years of trying to give this magazine a fair shake, I have to admit that it is pretty bad. The ads fuel everything! They don't do their research either on the cost of a wedding or on local salaries. They must just collect the quotes and come up with a sum...and done. The society pages are akin to a highschool yearbook. Come on people, step it up...publish some articles with substance. And please, for the love of god....stop giving awards and recognition the usual suspects...its boring! read more

First off, the photographs all throughout this mag are super duper quality and I always look forward to that :) I understand that midtowners are displaying harsh judgement, but my take is that this is NOT SN&R and we don't need to compare the two.. there's a time and place for both. for example, the quality Sac Mag covers and showcasing of my FAV eateries are perfect in my waiting room, on my coffee table.. this magazine allows me to have a quality looking product, to present to those that may know nothing about Sac.. sure, it doesn't tell you where the free beer-pong parties are this weekend, and advertises heavily (LOCAL BUSINESS!), but I think Sac Mag is right where it should be. stay classy sac mag ;) do your thing. read more

I think Sac Mag is fantastic. I like the glitz. I like feeling like we are a somewhat upper middle class cosmopolitan city. I don't need to read more edgy articles from the front lines. I don't need to hear more about the depressed economy, horrible crime rates, and housing bust. Tell me about the new eateries, where to take my wife for a romantic weekend, and what's new in midtown. Sac Mag isn't pretending to be something it's not. The articles they run are obviously working for their target audience. Unlike our local newspaper, you have a selection to choose from when it comes to magazines in Sacramento. Pick the one that's right for you. This isn't Bloomberg News Corp. This is a local start up out of East Sac. They've been around for maybe 20 years. What a success story! They're doing the best they can to provide a good looking, upbeat publication to their neighbors while trying to run a business. I'm glad they're still around and I wish them nothing but the best. read more

Almost seems like someone's got a vendetta, because Sacramento Magazine does an awesome job covering the region--especially dining and things to do. I'm not sure if it's cool to mention their website here, but they've got good blogs there and restaurant reviews for just about evry restaurnt there is. All the Best of Sacramento stuff has gotten old and it's too bad theres so many chains, but it's for charity, so I can cut them some slack for that. read more
