Have you been to the folsom library? Here, on my busiest day, I come with my little ones holding…read moretight to my hands. When I'm here, I feel my eyes meet the window and books. Few days ago, although I was so exhausted but my little ones needed to borrow books no matter how tired I had to put on that mommy energy and get them here. I sat next to the window, watched through the window cars passing and enjoyed the outdoor lush beauty. There was a magic, no phones, library silence, row of books that stand like silent companions and each holding a world within the spine of books. At least the books are silent not like manager's, they don't ask how fast can you work on this. I feel library is a safe space, read, wander with imaginations, crave for more and eager to read next book from the series and let your brain learn new words or emotions through the book. Growing up, I was happy whenever the library trailer book bus came to our school. We never had library while growing up, so I looked forward to borrow book's when the library bus came. I clearly remember one time, my favorite book was dinosaur book. I renewed twice because the story was my favorite. And I'm glad my kids enjoy reading and thanks to the public library, we've borrowed thousands of books. And without the library, this wouldn't be possible without breaking the bank. And thanks to the library, we can borrow from different branches. They make it possible for kids to read and grow. All I want to say, thank you! You are making a big difference in our lives.

My first was a Covid baby, and it is amazing to see little engaging and interacting safely. From there we went to story time. Again, it was so well run and the staff was so fabulous! My little was totally enjoying every minute of it. Additionally, I have found that the book selection for kids is amazing at the Folsom branch. Totally worth the trip!

This used to be a great store when Don was the owner. Don…read moreis gone, but his wife Renee is now running the shop. Now it is terrible. We used to buy childrens books here almost weekly, their selection is decent while extremely unorganized. (Don't trip on the piles of books). Don was great, as he was always friendly and helpful, and it was clear he had a deep passion and love for books. We would bring in trade books as our kids grew up and outgrew their books, and they would discount any new purchases based on how much trade credit we had with them. The books were always priced well and reasonably, and while disorganized, it was the closest bookstore we had. it was always fun to look for treasures, and chat a bit with Don. Things went completely downhill when his wife took over the business. She got rid of the friendly cashiers and replaced them with what appears to be her friends, who know next to nothing about books, and are constantly in bad moods or throw attitude. Last week we were in line and the grey haired lady rand up a guy in front of us, saying nothing, then mockingly said something along the lines of "This is where you give me the credit card so that you pay", without saying anything else to him. No idea why she was so mad as a quiet customer who was confused by herr terrible attitude. We wanted to leave immediately, but we had two books to buy, so we had to deal with the aftermath. Then when we were checked out, she grumpily told us the price without looking at us. What on earth is happening here now. When we got home, we saw that the books were priced 1 or 2 dollars more than the new price, so even with our discount, we were practically paying new prices for books in fairly poor condition. We will be going elsewhere in the future. We just wish a decent bookstore would open in our area so we don't have to drive to Half Price. Maybe when his wife gives up, it will prompt someone else to open a shop who actually cares.

But I really wanted to see Folsom and while on the way to Folsom Lake State Recreation Area with friends, we noticed a sign for the Folsom Prison Museum. Naturally, curiosity won out and we took a much desired detour. Despite having checked online and learning the museum is closed for the foreseeable future (likely budget related), we still decided to drive onto the prison campus anyway to at least see the outside. Mission accomplished! Not only did we find the museum and snap a bunch of fun photos but we also ended up meeting two of the friendliest prison guards imaginable (please note: they're also the only prison guards I've ever met, but still!). They generously took the time to share stories about the prison's history, current conditions, and even fun trivia like the fact that all California license plates are made here at Folsom. Incredible! Oh! I also got a Junior Correctional Officer sticker, how fun!!! Their kindness and willingness to chat really made the stop worthwhile, even without stepping inside the museum. Which, by the way, the museum is the old warden's residence! While I'd love to return if the museum ever reopens, I'll definitely pass on the chance to spend a night here as an official guest. Still, for a quick, quirky, and historic stop, Folsom Prison delivered.
