I mainly come to libraries for a quiet study/work space. This library is spacious and not too loud with plenty of free parking spots. I'm always greeted when I walk in. The children's area is on the opposite side of the computers and desks so I don't have any issues with distractions. I've reserved the study rooms a few times. Sac libraries limit study room reservations to one hour at a time for individuals and small groups. I just don't think that's enough time for ample studying/working. I wish the reservation blocks were three hours at maximum. Fortunately, there are a handful of desks to use with enough space for one adult or maybe two children. read more

Staff are friendly and helpful. I was able to get signed up for a Library card easy. The staff didn't know ASL but we got by with typing. I'm Deaf and factor accessibility into my reviews so knowing or not knowing ASL may not apply to you. They have a seed library available. The library is small but with ample selection for kids. They also have a used book store area with some gently used books for sale to support the library. However, I didn't feel safe letting my kid play on the playground. A lot of adults with no children hanging around on the playground equipment or in the grass. read more

Love the library and how many free community services it offers - from magazines for my mom, to a seed library and switch games to borrow - as well as adult arts and craft activities! This June they also serve free lunches to youth 18 and under. Please visit your library more often!! read more

I went to the library in Citrus Heights planning to spend twenty minutes picking up a book. Two hours later I was still there, sitting in a chair that felt suspiciously comfortable for a public building. Somehow I walked out with three novels and the sudden motivation to read again. We had a material pickup reserved in the community room for my students in Homeschool. We set up, had no food, no party, just little gift bags from us as well as student materials. We folded all tables and chairs as well as made sure it was spotless before we exited. A worker at the library continuously spied in on us, made snarky comments, nit-picking when my students were present, as well as "micro-managing". It was odd. I highly don't recommend reserving the room. She also came in and stole my $20 stapler. The park for the students was fun though, and she was not lurking around there. read more

My go to library location for years, when my kids were little after getting our books we would go to the park next door and look for the bunnies. The librarians are always friendly and helpful when looking for a book or need help on the computer. We have been coming to this location since my boys were little, now they are grown up and we still enjoy the library. I love that you can look up any books online in their system, and have them shipped to this location for pick up. Now we have picked out books to read my granddaughter, the library has "Early Learning Kits for kids" they come in a tote, have a book to read to your little, some have items in the tote to go with the book for pretend imagination. Such as the Camp Out Book Kit has a Camping kit - bag, lantern, fork, hot dog, marshmallow, 2 crackers, chocolate bar, 2 logs, pretend flame, 2 magnifying glasses, 2 binoculars, 1 Camp Out book & an informational sheet for parents on ideas to use these items. We always make a point to check out the shelves in the hallway at the entrance of the library for "The Friends of the Library" section for used magazines, books for a donation that is anywhere between $0.25 to $2.00 per item. I love the National Geographic magazines. The library is for all ages, come check out your next adventure. read more

Scooped up some great movies from the 1990s this afternoon. Due to the covid19 situation going on, only curbside pick-up is available. But I'm thankful for that! This review is strictly on this experience. Haven't been inside yet. To get your materials, browse the catalog online. Use your library card # and pin # to reserve material. You select the library location where you want to pick-up your materials. It took about 4 days to transit currently shelved materials from within Sacramento Public Library. Not bad, I have plenty to do! When the materials arrive you'll receive an email with a deadline for when to pick-up. It's generous at 19 days. The email gives you instructions for picking up. Either text from your car in the parking lot and wait in your car until ready, or call and talk with a person if you don't text. Pick-up hours are currently Tuesday - Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The DVDs are normally 7 day loans. I'm thankful it's more than that at this time, it's currently 6 weeks. Same for books. Will get some laughs from the DVDs and I hope to learn something from the book (The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck). Lord help me. lol! read more

This library's remodel is beautiful. The children's area is nicer, friendly, and fun! The seating cubbies are absolutely adorable. I love how the toys are exploratory and engaging. (Note: Sensory play is more for children on the spectrum, however I found the toys they had for that were great for all ages.) There seems to be a lot more board books stocked here frequently compared to the Fair Oaks location. Sometimes they'd have little to none. We've been here a few times and there's always a couple shelves full each time. I just saw a woman checking out at least 20 books and there's still a ton left for the rest of us! Eight computers are available for children to play on for a limit of 25 minutes (if a kid can read, they'll learn to surpass that time). Plenty of seating is available for kids to sit and read or play at. I almost feel like the place is bigger than before the remodel! The reason for the loss of one star is the homeless people. One was sitting in the kids section for the outlets and a few others hang around outside. I'm not a fan, but they've all kept to themselves or be polite. read more

Currently open only for curbside pickups. You show up, send a text to the number shown on the billboard in front, and wait a brief period while someone bags your items. Depending on who shows up you may get one of the very friendly staff or the several wanna be dictators who are on a power trip with the virus and telling others how to act. The interior itself was remodeled last year and is attractive. During better times there is always a large group of computer users while others enjoy the seating to read and just hangout. Children have a spacious area themselves to move around. Sitting on a corner, the library is next to some tennis courts and a small park which abuts a much larger private green area. Lots of cute abandoned rabbits make the area their home and seem to have adapted well. There is also a growing homeless population that mostly hangs out between the library and the street. Sad to see things like this. Hopefully this branch and others can soon return to their normal operations. I applaud the friendly members of the staff and thank them for being there for us. read more

They aren't open when they say they will be on the sign outside. And even when you show them it's 5 minutes past they don't open the door. Then she comes back and says they don't open until 12. I ask why and she shrugs. Aren't librarians supposed to have information on all kinds of things? I would assume that they would know about their own locations hours. Or have a reason to open up two hours late with staff inside and no signs to indicate the hours for today given to all the people who are currently inside. Here's a tip, next time you're closed, look closed. Don't let people show up and don't turn on all your lights. That indicates that you are closed since that's the only way to find out. read more

I came here several times to MeetUps at the meeting room. It's spacious, lots of chairs, and lots of tables. In the entrance area of the library, they had all sorts of books that are for sale. When you enter it is a nice spacious library with the typical books, computer internet area and places to study. The Librarians are actually very nice. They assisted us how to use the computers since it took a while to realize they needed our Library Card information in order to use them. Not bad. It's a nice library. read more

I love being pleasantly surprised! This library is very toddler friendly and the staff is super nice. I have to been to libraries where there is a decent set up for children but for whatever reason the staff are snooty and they make you feel unwelcome and self conscious about your kids. Sylvan Oaks has little puzzles on each of the small tables for kids to freely play with. There is a nice large fish tank and lots of kid-friendly seating. I did not go with the intention of entertaining the little ones but instead to meet with someone and I stumbled upon a place I would gladly (and regularly) bring the kids to! read more

Newly remodeled library with two study rooms, laptop checkout, renovated community room, children's area, and updated teen area. The bathrooms are ADA accessible and they moved the bookcases around so it's so much more open! The set up lets you look out the windows into the park where you see the resident rabbits and turkeys. Most of the staff is there, with a few new faces. The programs are back, and there's more coming! read more

The library has been completely redone and has an open concept. Their board books for toddlers are on bookshelf's instead of in bins like other libraries which makes it easier to search for books. They have added a ton of media items to their collection as well. There aren't a ton of computers, but most people brought their laptops. read more

This is a pretty small library but as a part of the sac system they have a great self check out stations and can get in any book from the other locations. The sac library is on top of getting new books in and has a great ebook selection as well. The staff is friendly, though I rarely need to use them because I can so easily self check out.(I really love the convenience of that, if you hadn't guessed) This place also has events. Movie nights, ice cream socials and the like. While it's not the snazziest library this little guys got all the essentials and it gets the job done. The staff is nice. MY problem is ALL the noisy kids or brats and the parents who let them scream their heads off and the staff says NOTHING! I thought a library you were to be quite. why are little kid s allowed ot act like that.I was trying to do research and study and all I hear kids screaming their heads off for no Reason!!! I experienced a wonderful afternoon at this library. I am in my 70s & got my first library card. Had no idea where to start. This wonderful staff lady helped me out. She was so patient & even filled out application form for me. I was so at ease. There are many things libraries can do. I was in another world. Many things were explained to me. Wow. Well-organized and attended library. the librarians are friendly, if not a bit harried (understandable). One issue - and I'm not sure if the library has jurisdiction over this - there are often people smoking marijuana around the premises. They may be tucked out of sight, but the smell often wafts over towards the children's playground (also part of the library property). I've been attending this library a lot before 4 years when I was living in the neighborhood. It was my favorite for same reasons mentioned above. Now, I'm back because I need to prepare my test! But this time I'm shocked because I recognized a modified setting of cafe rather than a LIBRARY! First, the man who was sitting next to me answered his phone which had a weird noisy ringtone and he talked about 10 minutes continuously discussing many personal issues! Meanwhile, the kids were everywhere with their loud shouting voices playing with at kids section! I was so patient waiting someone from the library to talk with their mothers or may be looking at them at least, when another strange act from one of the employees who was helping a lady on the check out desk exploded a laugh followed by very loud talk getting along with that lady! At that moment, I stand up and walked to the counter, I was very upset, asked the lady about what was going on here and she replied me that this library serving a huge elder community and kids also. Personally, Sylvan Oak library managers and responsible s should think seriously to change the name to Sylvan Oak Community Cafe! read more

Yes this is my neighborhood library. And yes it is much more noisey and lively than a dead quiet library. I like it this way. People are using the library. That has to be good for libraries and for people. I find almost every book I need on the computer library catalog or the LINK feature. Then it is delivered (free of charge to me) to this local library of mine. Then I pop in, pick up my designated books, CDS, DVDs and check out fast and easy on those electronic check out thingys. Fast, simple, easy and books from everywhere. This way I only buy the books that I really truly love. How is this not the best!!! read more
