9/24/2024 When I hear the KFI radio broadcaster falsely say that this place "corrected his vision 20/20 and so can you have 20/20 vision by just calling to make an appointment" to this doctor, it's totally false and misleading. When this eye doctor office told me that because I have an astigmatism in my left eye that the best they can do is lasik to one eye (mono vision) which will require me to continue wearing a contact lens in one eye or continue to wear glasses, that's totally bogus crap sounding to me. I can't be the only person on this earth nor who came into this doctor office with an astigmatism. If lasik cannot correct my vision to 20/20 in both eyes then I don't want it done in neither eye. I also don't want to end up with dry eyes from lasik. It's all just one real big joke! read more

Today marks 14 days since my procedure. I'll keep this brief but start from the beginning. I've worn glasses since I was 9 years old. I'm 48 now. I have no memory of being able to see without glasses really. I wore contacts in my late teens through 20's and into my 30's but my eyes are dry and they really bugged me. I've been terrified of Lasik because I didn't understand the procedure. My husband and I just recently relocated back to CA (his hometown) and we were listening to John Kobelt's show and heard his commercial and his own testimony. The exam was free so I decided I had nothing to lose. I want to be in the water more AND be able to see clearly. Honestly, I wasn't convinced I'd be a candidate. I made my appointment for two weeks out. I was amazed to learn they did same day surgery and that that would be an option. I had the LASIK procedure on 10/25 and am beyond pleased with my results. The entire staff were great and they walk you through the entire LASIK procedure, making you feel comfortable. Dr. Manger is precise and very respectful! After the procedure, things were a little fuzzy (as I was told they would be), but I could already see much better without my contacts/glasses. Charles, This is in response to your respond. If I had it done on Feb. 2022, then it has now been over a year cuz today is Aug. 2023 and my vision is not great. That day is the day I came in yo complain and I was then told to just keep applying the eyedrops. And......not vision isn't great! What I don't get is, I was told that I was a btter candidate than my husband because if my age and I did have the greatest vision for the first 2 months at the very most. Now I wish I never had it done because my far-sight isn't as good and my near sight isn't good at all. I don't want to spend another dime for an exam and be told another promising nothing. They said they would see them but they have no doctors in office. Apparently they do not know if he is selling or closing down! Which I think is terrible business for past patient care..... Years ago I went to this doctor and he was irritated with his assistant cuz he was taking a long time scanning my eyes. I only went to him because of an ad I heard on KFI about LASIK. Anyway his assistant found that my right eye had a cone shaped cornea so he was just surprised to see one cuz he never seen one before. Well here's the story when I got to speak to the doctor it's like he was irritated already. Because he said to me there's nothing we can do about the right eye the only thing you can do is have an eye transplant. And then he rudely said you probably can't afford that. Cuz it was at Cedars-Sinai and he had given me a doctor. Anyway this a-hole never told me that or maybe he just didn't know cuz he's not that good of a doctor that I could have gotten contacts to fix this many years ago instead of having to wear glasses and be able to see 20/20 through both eyes. And I'm calling him an a hole because all these years I thought the only way I could get this eye fixed was to get an eye transplant but he lied. Thanks for nothing man. Eye surgery is serious stuff. Mine went well and my vision is getting better every day. But I think a place like this deserves a heartfelt and honest review so that you know what you're getting into. I had LASIK done 2 weeks ago at SEC. I am 49, male, incredibly strong and handsome with a great personality. Woops, that's my tinder profile... Aaaanyway, my distant vision sucked, my close vision sucked, had to wear glasses 100% of the time...trifocals mind you...and they got in the way of all the things that I like to do. So when it was time to consider another pair of glasses, I figured I could spend $1000 per year on glasses or consider LASIK and buy cheap reading glasses for my close vision. They can't fix old age yet. I'm a giant baby when it comes to medical stuff, you would never guess this when looking at my rugged exterior and sinewy muscles. But while I was incredibly anxious, the procedure was really nothing to be scared of. I didn't feel anything, most of the procedure time is waiting and the actual "hack on your eye" stuff seemed like it was only about 5 minutes. The only thing that worried me was like when you ride a roller coaster and you wonder if that long haired yahoo running the ride tightened the bolts to keep the car on the tracks or if it's going to launch into outer space...I wondered "what happens if the power goes out in the middle of my eye being sliced open???" Luckily, the power was at full chooch the whole time. I damn near squished the football they made me hold. and they kept yelling at me to relax...I wasn't about to tell them that I was just flexing to impress the girl that was helping the doctor. I think she was totally into me. Understandable of course. Now, let's talk about eye drops. By the time the procedure was over, I had so many drops in my eyes, I'm pretty sure I looked like I was crying after my side-chick had dumped me for Elon. I mean, the only thing he's got in me is money, but that can be a big motivator. I used to squint knowing a drop was coming, now I'm like a pro! I can do it with one eye tied behind my back and I even look up when it rains! Recovery went well, gallons of drops! I was shocked when I was able to read the eye chart the next morning...it was so clear! I started wearing glasses when I was about 8 years old. They weren't even corrective glasses so that made my vision worse. From then on I had to wear thick glasses and was bullied for having four eyes. In highschool, we went in for my yearly check up but the eye clinic could no longer accommodate my high prescription + high astigmatism so they referred me to a lot of doctors who I trusted my eyes with until yesterday I was told that I wasn't a 'good candidate' for lasik so I never bothered getting a second opinion. I even qualified for a vision disability in the Philippines in 2018 that's how bad it was! -13 vision with 5.00 astigmatism. Fast forward to few weeks ago, I decided to get a second opinion because why not... I did a lot of research and I stumbled upon Dr. Manger who has excellent credentials with over 90,000+ lasik procedures performed since 1996. I was 5 years old when he started doing them! I booked an appointment through their website for a free 2.5 hour consultation without any expectations. I was just anxious to get it over with cause I felt like I wasn't going to be a good candidate. After an extensive series of tests, Dr. Manger guaranteed me 20/40 vision (my prescription now) or even better, through a PRK procedure. It's like lasik but without flapping the cornea but with a longer healing process. Due to my high prescription/astigmatism and thin corneas, this was the best route for me. All of the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable and answered all my concerns (blindness, pregnancy, pain) so I felt very at ease the entire time. And what's crazy was... they could do the surgery the SAME DAY which only took 15 minutes. I came for a consult at 12:30pm and finished the surgery at 5:30pm. After 20+ years, today is the day I never have to pick up my prescription contacts and glasses ever again! Saddleback Eye Center - 11/3/2021 -- Post op check up with Dr. Manger, day after my surgery - Laser Eye Surgery/Lasik Near Me - Laguna Hills, California

TLDR: I didn't get a LASIK surgery here, but this review is in regards of how this center discouraged questions. I asked about my risk in regards to Keratoconus and Dr. Manger removed me from his list of approved candidates for LASIK. Another LASIK center said I was not a good candidate for LASIK surgery a month ago because I at risk of developing Keratoconus since my left eye was steeper and consistently drier than my right eye and said to schedule a second consultation with them after I use lubricant drops in my eyes for a few weeks, I scheduled a re-test with them at 2PM on 4/26/24. Since my morning was free on 4/26/24, I decided to get a second opinion at Saddleback Eye Center. They confirmed that I was a good candidate and I thought the lubricant drops worked. Since I had my 2PM appt at the other center, I went to my appointment and said to Saddleback that I would call back later that day if the other LASIK center didn't approve my surgery.I didn't get approved at the other center due to the same reasons, so I called Saddleback to see if they see any risks in me developing Keratoconus because they didn't mention it at all during my morning consultation. The optometrist was already gone for the day and said they would call back on Monday. I followed up on Monday, and they said Dr. Manger needed to review my scans and would call me back Tuesday. I got a call back from Dr. Nguyen on Tuesday and he took 7-8 minutes to explain that he didn't think there's a high risk of Keratoconus and that I could get LASIK. I was so excited and was going pay the deposit, but then he kept on reiterating ""since you have extreme concerns about..."" I thought ""extreme concerns"" were strong words, but I didn't think too much because it seemed like they would do my surgery. At the very end of the call, he said, ""because you have extreme concerns about this surgery, Dr. Manger had removed you from the surgery list."" Then I asked, ""If I didn't ask about Keratoconus and went with you after my consultation, would you have done the surgery on me?"" Dr. Nguyen replied, ""Yes."" I never said I had ""extreme concerns."" I was simply told by other center about my risk of Keratoconus while Saddleback didn't mention a single word of it. At my initial consultation, I even got the feeling from Dr. Nguyen that he was slightly surprised that the other place declined me the first time. LASIK is an expensive surgery that would affect me for the rest of my life and I thought asking a few follow up questions would've been acceptable. Saddleback also offered ""Same-Day"" LASIK surgery which I thought was weird. You're eligible for a discount if you did the surgery right after your consultation. LASIK just didn't feel like one of those surgeries that you could right after when they approve you as a candidate, you know? I got declined as a patient here because I asked questions. If you want Dr. Manger to do your surgery, just blindly trust him and don't ask questions. Good luck to you. read more

WOW!!! I've read some of the other reviews about having a lot of patients, however in my opinion that makes for a better doctor, right? I mean more experience lends to a better surgeon. That being said I want to give anyone who is thinking about doing this my experience. Upon entering the center I was greeted warmly by the staff. Each and every person that brought me through the initial exam was courteous kind and informative. Once I was told I was a candidate I was a static. I decided to do the surgery the same-day because I would receive a substantial discount if I did and quite frankly I just wanted to get it over with as I was a little nervous. Several staff members went through the process, exactly what to expect, what I need to do & Pricing of course (there is financing available!) The time came to do the surgery which is actually really quick however a lot of preparation is needed so be prepared to be there for a couple of hours. Again, the actual surgery is about 15 minutes ... there's a coach that goes through the whole process with you and I have to tell you it's like a Lamaze coach for birth!! Haha however it's for the lasik surgery and I have to tell you, it is greatly appreciated! And my coach was absolutely fabulous! After everything I was brought to a room given a ton of support and instructions which they went over several times just to make sure I had what I needed to do. I've been investigating Lasik and planning on a consult for years, but a series of events finally pushed me to take this option seriously. I assume if you're reading this, you are also considering Lasik for your own reasons. My reasons came from being beholden to my glasses and contacts. I always had to pack an extra contact or two because I was so paranoid if one fell out. And camping, one of my favorite things, lost so much spontaneity. You ever put contacts lenses on in a hot tent? Nothing ruins that feeling of adventure more than fumbling around on the ground looking for your supplies. For the day to day, I was tired of waking up every morning to a blurry room. Even when I'd pop on my glasses, which always had some smudge or glare, I had no peripheral vision. My day just couldn't start until my contacts were in. And at night, I couldn't really relax until the contacts were out. God forbid I fall asleep on the couch. And don't get me started on hot wings- Eat a hot wing in the afternoon, wash your hands, and I guarantee that 3 hours later, there will still be some mystery residue that's going to sting the hell out of your eye when you take the contacts out. The psychological effects of having to wear anything to do daily tasks are so much more than the cost of replacement or yearly appointments. I read a study that people with even slight vision loss are 2x more likely to develop depression and anxiety. With contacts, you are constantly on alert. And the image with glasses is a distorted one, which affects your brain, and poor peripheral vision affects your fight-or-flight. I've been wearing glasses since I was 9 and contacts since I was 12. I never made the connection of how subconsciously these daily restrictions were affecting my quality of life. So that brought me to Saddleback: I investigated the time frames and came to the conclusion that if I had it done now, I could take full advantage of the results by camping/ swimming for my birthday in October. Because I was traveling from Los Angeles, I made the decision that if I was a candidate, I would take advantage of the same-day option because Saddleback was the #1 choice for me anyway. There were places closer to me, but the reviews elsewhere were a little more divisive, whereas the reviews here seemed very consistent. This procedure cannot be overstated. I had 20/200 vision. My husband and I actually recorded a video the night before my appointment where I sat at one end of our living room and he sat at the other and held up different items. I got every single one of them wrong, and they were my own possessions! The day of my appointment, there was a very thorough and comprehensive exam. I was so relieved to hear that I'd qualified with the 80% of patients who were a candidate, because there is a chance you'll fall into the 20%. This is a Legitimate surgery; this is not a med-spa or a pedicure or brow lamination. As quick as it is, and as painless as it its, it is the real deal, complete with an operating cap taped to your head and numerous forms that discuss the side-effects and risks. That's when it really kicked in for me. Who reads the risks and still decides to go through with this? For me, it was the competency of the staff and their success rate. I had made the trip, I had been approved, and even though I was nervous and scarred, the opportunity of never having to worry about glasses or contacts again outweighed my fear of risk. The procedure itself is fast, and there were moments of feeling anxious, but Dr. Manger and his 2 staff were consistently reassuring and letting me know what to expect step-by-step. When it was done and I opened my eyes maybe 5 minutes later, I was already seeing better than when I came in only 4 hours before, albeit a little hazy as my eyes adjusted. You can expect a follow up the next morning to make sure everything looks good. Take the evening to rest and go over the post-op packet. I went in the next am with some questions so that I understood what to expect for the next days/ weeks etc. All of the staff takes a lot of pride in what they do. They want you to be happy and healthy and truly share in your excitement. The post-op eyedrops, safety glasses, and instructions are not suggestions or recommendations, they are a crucial part of the healing process! Set alarms for the drops, keep yourself hydrated, and wear your safety glasses. I'm on day 2, and aside from the expected occasional dryness as my eyes heal, this opportunity was the best thing I've ever done for myself. It's such a personal decision, and one you pray you'll only have to make once. And like anything, there are no guarantees, it all comes back to risk/ reward. But if you're ready, like I was, then I can't recommend Saddleback enough. read more

Monovision I never got a resolution to my eye problem.... monovision lasik surgery created a depth perception problem. For example, I went to CVS store. They have red colored baskets that you can use to shop with and hold by hand. I put some bags of beef jerky in the basket and a few other items. When I got tot he counter to pay,I started putting the items on the counter. I told the cashier that I thought I placed two bags of beef jerky in there. I looked in basket again and realized the bags were red, like the basket and I could NOT distinguish them from the basket. There have been multiple scenarios such as this since I had this procedure done. Ive been robbed of sight. I need to have all the lights on in the house because I can't see. Was at a hotel that had dark counters, I placed my black brush on the counter and couldn't distinguish it from the counter. I am a nurse. I cannot see the blood pressure,heart rhythms on the monitors when I am passing by my patients room due to my depth perception being off. I feel blind. Out in public when I ask where a specific item is and I go to look for it, many times I cannot find the item because I can't see it!! When I complained to the doc 2 week postop, he said it would take up to a year to correct. Unfortunately, life got in the way, my mother was sick, on hospice and I didn't follow up again... after my mother died and I felt like living again,I tried emailing my disappointment, it was ignored. When I finally spoke to someone they said there's nothing they can do and would CHARGE for another appointment ! Like I would ever let him touch my eyes again. Let me be clear, my complaint is that I was NOT told I would lose my depth perception! Think about what it will do to me when I'm a senior citizen ... I don't wish this on anybody. I had my eyes Lasik about 2month ago I have to say its the best choice I ever made! Amazing great fantastic experience throughout the entire process! I've had multiple friends as well as my sister refer them for Lasik. I must say they have phenomenal customer service in both before the appointment and afterwards They provided supplemental material to view beforehand and also answered all of my questions in person. I had a Lasik procedure on my right eye on 9/18/24. As a veteran photographer, I was facing a tough choice to get glasses or switch careers because I could no longer see if my photos were in focus. Also, straining to read and see far away caused massive headaches. Dr. Manger and his incredible team gave me back the vision I once took for granted. I am very grateful for this wonderful team. They patiently went over all my concerns, explained the process and assured me that I will not be experiencing pain or discomfort during my procedure and recovery. They took care of everything leaving nothing to chance and the procedure went smoothly. I am also grateful for their post op kit with everything I needed to keep track of my eye drops. I did not love sleeping in protective goggles for five days, but the new vision is totally worth the sacrifice. It's only been my first five days, but already my vision has greatly improved. Dr. Manger and his AMAZING team did such a fantastic job of taking care of me throughout the entire process. I came in for the consultation because I wanted to see if LASIK could help me avoid the constant costs of contact lenses. They explained the whole situation, and offer same day procedure! And doing it the same day saved me like at least $500! The surgery actually took less time than the exam! They're also great about exactly what to do for the next day, week, etc. Highly recommend at least getting the exam to see if you're a candidate. read more

I listened to the radio and Saddleback Lasik came on. I had to listen to it a few times to see if they really had a procedure for eliminating reading glasses cause a friend mentioned to me everyone at my age needs reading glasses and thats just the way it is. Basically saying eye surgery was a waste of money and time and to be careful with someone messing with your eyes! Well...I committed to the surgery. From day one everyone was so nice! Even though you have to remember tons of very important details, they invest a lot of time explaining the whole procedure from start to finish and how to care for yourself afterwards. I was happy with how professional they were and was at ease knowing that I was in good hands! After surgery, you need to set an alarm and add drops of different eye drops to heal and lubricant drops every half hour is kinda a drag for a while but I'm so happy with the results and its a miracle to be able to see well again! Dr Menger is the best Lasik eye surgeon. It's all he does and all he has done for decades

I wasn't going to leave a review but I got a text asking me to so here I am. The surgery was quick and significantly less scary and painful than I thought -- Dr. Manger clearly knows what he's doing. My vision went from 20/800 in one eye and 20/600 in another to 20/20 literally overnight. So far my life hasn't gotten more convenient due to the insane eye drop regimen I'm on (every half hour!) but I'm sure there will come a time when my eyes are healed and I'm glad I spent the money. The one thing that does irk me a bit is that when I called for a phone consultation I asked the woman at Dr. Manger's office about post-op procedures she made no mention of the eye drops I'd need to use every 30 minutes for a month following the operation. This is a significant inconvenience and it would've been nice to have the whole picture of post-op Lasik life. Still, in spite of that, I'd recommend Dr. Manger to people looking for an efficient and effective Lasik procedure. read more

I wanted to wait the 5 days to write a review. I had been looking into lasik for a while but had not been convinced. After having several friends go to saddleback i decide to go. The best decision, i can now see clearly without the need of my contacts. They were extremely fast, friendly and always so attentive. I highly recommend!
