    Coffee was great...

Wow!! Definitely isn't the place you'd think it was, even when they are short handed the food was spot on and hot. The place has been in business for over 15 years and based on their food quality a person eating here wants to keep it a secret! When in town stop here for breakfast you won't be disappointed!! Took off 1 star because I had to get my own coffee when the place was slammed with customers due to half of the regular servers were at a volley ball game... lol this stuff only happens in a small town....stop in, enjoy and as always have a happy meal...

Talk about good food! We stopped in for breakfast and this little cafe did not disappoint! The prices are good, but the homemade bread is even better!

an omelet and toast on a plate

Drove from Herington for breakfast. My husband and my sister enjoyed their food, I on the other hand did not. I ordered the corn beef hash meal. I asked for my eggs to be soft scrambled and cinnamon raisin toast. The crust on the corned beef hash was burnt, over cooked. The eggs were not soft scramble, they were dry and over cooked. The toast, was not toast, it was bread that looked like they slapped it on the griddle to put a little color on it (one side only), my two pieces of "cinnamon raisin toast" had one raisin and the swirl of cinnamon was not a swirl but a small line. No cinnamon taste. Why didn't I say something, you ask... The service was lacking, they said there was only two people working, blamed it on volleyball (I assume some of the staff are in high school, and play on the team). My husband asked where the coffee was, the waitress told him it was up front, and he got the coffee pot, and filled up his and my sister's cup, even another customer's cup. We had to take ketchup and Cholula off another table. No one came and asked how our meal was, or if we needed anything, until they came and picked up the empty plates (not my plate), but walked away before any one of us could speak. Either she didn't notice that my plate was still full (she only took my husband's and my sister's), or she didn't care if I liked my meal. Was the restaurant clean? Half the tables up front were occupied, and the other half had dirty plates on them. We asked if we wait to be seated or if we sit ourself. We sit ourself, and we found a clean booth in the back. We ordered two coffees and one water, the waitress immediately came back and asked if we ordered three coffees. Should have known right then that the service would be less than par. Used the women' restroom (cow girl's), it is very dated and small (my RV has a larger bathroom). You can hear everything from the kitchen. Will we return? I'm sure my husband will drag me in, to give it a second chance. I'll make sure to look at the high school sports schedule. I'm giving a three star, because my husband and my sister liked their meals.

Authentic, small town cafe. Very friendly owner and staff, you are not a stranger here. Try the burger with freshly made cheddar bacon bun.

We would highly recommend it: fast, friendly service, tasty food and homemade cinnamon rolls so large my kids couldn't finish them (but so good they asked for to go boxes).

Great day in the morning beautiful people of Yelpsville. Thank you for sharing a moment of this…read morefine life we're living, together. The 250th anniversary of being the new kids on the blue marble is upon us. My fam decided to make a pilgrimage back to the wifes stomping grounds. The heartland, Kansas. We're staying in the "Little Apple", Manhattan, Ks. Home of K-State University. Well also home of The Chef, which should be just as famous and endeared. The Chef is this gorgeous, chic, yet not so that it's kitschy diner in the heart of the main district of Manhattan. A classic diner, from the hospitality of the service staff, to the lunch counter with cute doodads for salt and pepper shakers. You've been here, because you've been home, or so it feels. Yes, be prepared to snuggle in for a teensy wait, because everyone loves home cooking, especially when someone else is doing the dishes afterwards. The portions are truly well beyong the prices. I ordered a CFS, smothered in sausage gravy. Was plated a Texas sized portion, thick steak, lightly crispily breaded, with a savory southern styled country gravy that honestly looked a bit intimidating in quantity, but I'm no fraidy cat. I came to conquer. Two perfectly running over medium eggs, whites done, yolks on the run, my style. A mountain of softly crunchy, better-than-homestyle fried potatoes, and a slice of thick cut wheat toast. This was a ton O' grub Bubba dub. Each component treated and seasoned well enough, to eat stand alone. Our meal partner kept checking on the family to see if we needed any more of that rich Arabica bean juice, or water, with the care of your fav Auntee from Mississippi, but right here, in the Land of Ahhhhs. She was winning us, even as much as The Chef that prepared the feast itself, and the food. Whew. The belly beat down was in effect, but I didn't tap out. I took that esophageal excitement with relish. Well not relish, with a sweet house made strawberry compote on toast. I wiped the plate clean. $15. You read that right... just $15. Oh I understand $15 is real money in this economy, but in relationship to the level of service, quality of service, epic portion sizes, and the finesse with which this small diner beat most anywhere we've been, and we share 39 years of worldwide travel as an old married couple, this was a bargain at $15, in the 90s. For sure back home in Texas this was honestly a $21 - $26 plate, and we're a beef producing state. Still with me? You're the real hero for hanging in here, and I truly appreciate you. If ever you want to taste Americas 250 years, in one sitting, visit The Chef in Manhattan, Ks. It's families feeding the community. No political spin, no feeling unwelcomed. An open door, to open hearts, feeding hungry bellies, without crushing your purses and wallets. They leave room in your account to make you want to reciprocate with generosity in returning, but also, tipping heartfully, without pressure. I miss when a meal was worth tipping huge without feeling it wasn't worth it. Here at the Chef, the earn it the old way. Be well, be loved, we're in this life past this page no matter what social media tells you. Hugs to you from me and mine. Go out and smile like ya mean it. Laugh like you're cray cray, and love like tomorrow isn't coming. Want pics? Nope. This place is worth you seeing for yourself. My pictures wouldn't do them justice. Peace y'all.

The atmosphere has that small-town charm that feels genuine from the moment you walk in. The service was outstanding. The staff was friendly, helpful, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They even let us sample the icing from their homemade cinnamon rolls so we could decide if it was cream cheese or not. (It's not, just regular icing for those who are curious.) As for the food: * The breakfast burrito was excellent. One of the best I've had. It was large, filling, and packed with flavor. The salsa on the side added a nice touch. * The biscuits and gravy were also a standout. The biscuits are homemade and some of the best I've ever had. * The pancakes were thick, fluffy, and clearly made from scratch. * The coffee was just okay. Not great, but not bad either. * My only suggestion would be to swap out the prepackaged syrup for something fresh. If you're in the area or visiting a student at Kansas State, Stacy's is absolutely worth the stop. We'll definitely be coming back.
