Hello, old timey theater of my dreams. The Saenger is everything, from its lavish environs to state of the art sound. I want to only see shows here from now on. The interior of the theater is ornate, with a beguiling ceiling of stars, lending itself to a feeling of endless night, which was the perfect backdrop to the Tori Amos concert I saw the other night. I felt practically spellbound in my seat (made for people of the past, of a smaller statue, so perfect for yours, truly). I appreciate bathrooms on every level (you exit the theater to a hallway, so sound is protected) and they are spotless. I didn't use the concessions, but these are on every level as well. Getting in was a breeze, and staff is polite and respectful so you don't feel like you're getting frisked or reprimanded. I loved it here so much, I feel compelled to return sooner rather than later, even though I don't go to shows a lot. Now I'm inspired! read more

Shows at the Saenger are always a treat. I've been many times but most recently for the John Legend concert and our seats were great. It's always best to arrive at least 20-30minutes before show time to avoid the crowd and lines. The bathrooms were clean and of you time it well, you avoid too much of a crowd there too. My only gripe is that I went to the box office ti buy tickets a week in advance to avoid the online service fees and it turns out they no longer waive those fees at the box office. You used to be able to save nearly $40/ticket. That's lame and they should reinstate that policy. read more

I always enjoy my time at the Saenger Theatre. This visit was to see Back to the Future: The Musical, and it was an excellent show, the cast did an amazing job. It was pure nostalgia and truly felt like a Broadway-level production. There really isn't a bad seat in the house. The concession line was short, and entry moved quickly, which made the experience even better. I've seen several shows here, including The Lion King, The Color Purple, and a few comedy performances, and it's always a memorable night. Anytime I have tickets to a show at the Saenger, I know it's going to be a good night. read more

Every time I go to the Saenger Theater the staff is so pleasant and helpful. From the VIP Grand Suites to the bartenders, everyone makes the night easy. I love seeing plays here and I'll keep coming back. If you go, make sure you look up. The ceiling is beautiful and honestly something you should take a moment to enjoy. Vampire Weekend in New Orleans - WHY NOT! We had already seen them at the Hollywood Bowl this past summer and we decided to go again. Now I had no idea that this theater was so close to our hotel. It was gorgeous. I would see another show here in a heartbeat. We tried to go the first night we arrived to see Alabama shakes but it was sold out. Comfy bigger seats for an older theater...not that we sat much. The ceiling is beautiful and covered in light up stars throughout the show. The old architecture and sculptures throughout make it a beautiful touch to the show. Ticket tips - The Saenger has their own website where tickets are available for purchase. As well as Ticketmaster and all the other resell apps like TickPick...Now I you know me I love a deal...We looked at all the apps and sites trying to find the best seats for the best price. $57 tix on tick pick. Ticketmaster same resells. BUT the Saenger theater's website had a special BOGO making the tickets in the orchestra $30 each!! SCORE. We got the best seats available in Orchestra Right about 15 rows back. Amazing show. Great night! read more

Before Katrina I saw some great shows here and the interior of this place is amazing. They have a "magic" ceiling that used to transition from daytime with moving clouds to a star filled night sky! Currently the ceiling seems stuck on just the starry sky and I miss the daytime transition. Well here it is in 2026 and they completed renovations but somehow they still didn't fix everything like the ceiling. I've seen some great shows here like Morrissy, ZZ Top etc. There are many other Saenger Theatres located around the surrounding states I've also visited but so far the New Orleans location remains the most impressive one that I've seen so far. All Saenger Theatres seem to share a common trait of being beautiful places while the New Orleans one is the best of the best of all of the ones I've seen so far. The big downside is that the area of Canal that the Saenger is located definitely needs revitalization and economic development as its still a very shady area. read more

Just a beautiful theatre, with great seats and a really nice stage. The design of the venue is very good except for the public areas just outside the theatre main doors which are extremely cramped and dark. Be careful going up the stairs to the Lounge! But the worst part about the Saenger Theatre is the staff. I've been to this venue dozens and dozens of times (8 times in the past 24 months), and every single time, the experience is the same ... the staff is extremely rude and they all seem to really dislike their job. It's a shame because this theatre is such a beautiful venue otherwise. read more

I've been to the Saenger a few times over the years for different events. Most recent event was for Alicia Keys musical Hell's Kitchen. There's a good bit of parking garages around the venue, but it can be pretty pricey. We were able to park in a garage for $30 but there were some lots who wanted $40 +. I think there's two different entrances to the theater on 2 different streets. The line we were in didn't take long. They check purses and then we walked through the metal detectors. I didn't get anything to eat or drink from there so I can't comment on that. All the staff members we encountered were nice and it wasn't hard to find our seats. During the break my mom and aunt were surprised at how smoothly the bathroom situation was. They said there was a worker who kept everything moving fast and organized. No complaints from me. Sometimes you can find a discount code online for cheaper tickets. We were able to find one for Alicia keys and get seats that are usually $90 for $50 but sometimes discount codes only work for certain days (we went on a Friday and the code wasn't available for Saturday dates). Tickets were sent through my email and I was able to add it to my Apple wallet. read more

I brought my son here for his first concert ever, he's 2 1/2, and he loves the character Blippi. They had a live tour going on, and this is where the New Orleans stop was located. The inside of this theater is beautiful, my husband said they Remodeled it and the inside roof is in inside night sky. It's very spacious and the seats are comfortable and no matter where you sit in the theater, you have a good view, which is great. Although this was a kid show, they had full bars open for the parents, lol and a merch table set up to buy Blippi products. Would definitely come back for any Shows I'm interested in! read more

I went to see Derek Hough at the Saenger Theatre in November 2023, and it was an amazing show! The entire theatre looked very elegant and had a unique yet vintage style to it that I consider timeless. Staffing was nice as well. The only thing I can really complain about is that it's in a sketchy area (Canal Street) and everything is street parking, but it's also New Orleans so I can't really be too surprised. Aside from that, Saenger Theatre is a beautiful theatre that I believe is irreplaceable. read more

Beautiful theater! We went for a concert and just like other vintage theaters I've been to every seat has a great view. The bathrooms were easy to get to and was large enough to handle the crowds at intermission. There were plenty of bars so lines were not too long and getting in and out was easy enough. It's a beautiful theater, but the lobby has accessibility problems. Once you arrive and get past security (no backpacks allowed), you enter a lovely lobby. However, the lobby is really narrow, and people waiting to get in the doors block where the halkways cross, and it's difficult to access the restrooms. There is nowhere to sit in the outer or inner lobby, other than a handful of chairs meants for employees. I'd recommend not arriving early unless you're okay with a lot of standing. Then, while waiting for the second set of doors to open, the fire alarm went off, and everyone had to evacuate. Once they resolved the issue, they put everyone in one giant line that wrapped around the block. Eventually, they allowed people who had already had their tickets scanned in via the side doors. Once we got in, the seats were good-sized and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. read more

This is a very nice theater. The atmosphere is reminiscent of an old timey theater. It's spacious. They have lots of bars so you don't have to wait too long for a drink. My only complaint is that all the snacks are packaged. I'd like to see some fresh popcorn or nachos. read more

Our family and friends love this theater!! We've seen concerts, Comedies, musicals, holiday shows, Cirque, etc. I don't think we've seen a production that we didn't like. This theater is beautiful!! It's comfortable and accommodating for any needs. They have good security before, during and after shows. Staff is nice but take their jobs seriously. My favorite things are the drinks available, playbills, Broadway shows and when they take your order at your seats! Tips: Have tickets ready or grab from box office (to left of front entrance). Be prepared to empty pockets, open purse and walk through detector. Get there early so that you have time to park, find your seats and get a drink. Buy souvenirs before show to avoid long line after. Dress as nice or casual as you want. We like to dress up a bit for musicals or holiday fun. All in all, if you've been thinking of going to this venue.....pick a show and go have fun!! The Saenger Theatre has been on FIYAH this Fall offering entertainment for all age groups! In the past few months I've visited three different times with my dad (Earth, Wind, and Fire), my cousin and aunte (The Lion King) and my five-year-old nieces (Disney Jr). This nearly 100 year old theater is a beautiful part of New Orleans history. From the Roman grandiose architecture, marble floors, and the star lined ceiling. You definitely step back in time walking into its doors. The venue is intimate yet perfect for all ages. The staff members are warm, welcoming, and friendly. A few tips: 1. Uber-- the parking is pricey, a hassle, and cost varies with each event. 2. Arrive 15-20mins before showtime! The shows start on time. Depending on the act the auditorium doors may be locked until after the first song or scene, etc.. 3. Order your drinks and snacks at your seat. I normally grab one drink first, then head directly to my seat, scan the QR code place my order, drink/snacks I'll be delivered to you before or during intermission. 4. Speaking of intermission, it only last 15 minutes and everyone in the theater simultaneously will have to go to the restroom (lol), beat the line by going to the lavatory a few minutes before intermission. Trust me there are three or four restrooms, and they all have massive lines. 5. This tip maybe more if a personal preference, but I always get the aisle seats, because the rows are 20 or so seats deep...if you have an emergency or need to get up, the aisle is more convenient. 6. There are only small snacks; think candy bars, gummy bears, raisins, and ham sandwiches. Plan to dine before or after the show...but there are 4 full bars. read more

I'm just in awwwww, this theatre is beautiful and it's small and cozy. We had great seats, which I don't think there's a bad seat in the building. The ushers were kind and helpful. The bartenders served us our drinks with a smile and very patient. We had a good night. Patti LaBelle gave us a show, she was amazing. At the end, they waste no time pushing you out them doors, First warning closing the doors on Canal St. Then we finally had to wait outside for our Lyft cause they were now closing the doors on Rampart side. The Saenger is a world-class performing arts center on Canal Street, just outside the French Quarter. After attending several shows through the years, I couldn't resist investing in season tickets for the Broadway in New Orleans series coming out of the pandemic. It's been such a rewarding experience that I've already renewed for next season, with a lineup even better than this years, if that's possible. The facility is spectacular. Intimate enough to make you feel part of the action even back 24 rows. The acoustics are superb. The seats are luxurious and comfortable. The restrooms and concessions get busy during intermission, of course, but I've never not been able to navigate them during the time allotted. I love this theatre! I have seen several shows here. Sister Act, The Book of Mormon, Hamilton, and many more. There is paid parking nearby, streetcar stop right in front, driver services. All of the staff I have encountered have been friendly and helpful. There really is not a bad seat in the house. All of the shows I have seen have been entertaining and top-notch performances. My most recent visit was the first in a few years since the Hard Rock incident and the pandemic. The Broadway in New Orleans series here has been wonderful. Inside, the decorations are beautiful. The chandeliers are breathtaking. The details on the staircase handrails, door frames, walls, lighting fixtures and oh, just everything. Nothing has been overlooked. One of my fav theaters! I come here every couple of months to catch musicals. The acoustics are amazing. I've had seats all over the theater and can say the sound is great. Views will obviously depends on your seating! I've included a pic of my seat view! If you want to save ticket master prices...go directly to the box office and purchase your tickets! Also don't park in the garage...such a hassle to get out of at the end of the night. It's better to pick a side street parking or a parking lot. read more

I didn't have high expectations for this theatre but I was pleasantly surprised. It was an awesome theatre. I recently saw one of the Hamilton shows being played at the theatre and had a great time. Bars are easy to get to and it's also quick and easy to get in and out. Lines moved quickly. I was able to sit on the Orchestra level of the and my biggest complaint was the seating. I felt very close to both my neighbors so it wasn't the most comfortable for the first bit. Went for Tesky Brothers. Sat to far right my uncle is quadriplegic and in a chair. For a sitting concert venue, people were standing most of the show causing us to not enjoy much of the show. I asked ushers to do something about, they said it is a possible standing venue. Know going in for any concert people will ruin it by standing in a seated venue. The Saenger Theatre is a top notch venue to catch amazing concerts and Broadway shows. I remember coming back in the days before Katrina, and I finally made my return this weekend for one of the final performances of this run of Cats. The renovations were spectacular and brought your back to the grand days of the theatre. Our seats were in the upper balcony, and probably my only remark is that the stairs are very unfriendly for those with any sort of eye issue. The carpets stairs do not allow you to differentiate the step levels, so hold on to the rails! I like the way the seats are done, sort of offset so you are not immediately blocked by the person in front of you. The seats are pretty comfortable, but the aisles are narrow. The stage is large and great for complicated sets. There really isn't a bad seat in the theatre. As expected, drinks and snacks are terribly expensive, but they have a good selection. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I can't wait to find another show to attend, and I hate that it took me this long to return after the renovations. read more

It's hard for me to say anything negative about this theatre. I embarked on a road trip from Chicagoland all the way down to New Orleans just for a show (sure, I made the best of the weekend and stayed a few days). The theatre is beautiful on the inside. It is stylized with ornate art deco architecture, definitely a bit of a step back in time. The queue to get in went surprisingly fast, though with the entire venue being assigned seating there was no rush anyway. What I really liked about this venue is how the seating is arranged. Not only is it on a slight decline towards the stage (so it becomes easier for all to see) the seats are also dispersed in such a way that view of the row in front of you will be between seats as opposed to the back of someone's head. Even with tall people, you'll still be able to see much of the stage (assuming you aren't Billy Barty). I did come for the NIN show so surely they had their best sound techs on the job, but the acoustics are great and sounded better than most shows I've been to. read more

The Saenger Theatre is stunning, and left me in awe. The beautiful historic French quarter theater is reminiscent of days gone by of formal theatre, which is what it is. Built in 1924, in the style of an Italian courtyard, that character remains. The ceiling has lights that form constellations to look like the night sky, and the renovations have kept it in grand style. I wished for more restrooms during the intermission when the lines extended the length of the theatre, but I made it back just in time in part due to an attendant who kept people moving. We visited for the first time to see Hamilton, which was beyond what words can explain. The theatre was a perfect setting, with wonderful acoustics worthy of the cast. Last night, we attended night two of the Chris Rock Tour and we absolutely loved the space, service and convenience on the theatre. The staff were great, and operations was notable. The actual theatre is stunning, and our seats, although in the last row of the orchestra, were still grand seats! I recommend. read more

The venue, the Saenger in New Orleans, was terrible. They said I needed to take off my mask (when there were plenty of others with masks) and since I took an Uber, was not going to go all the way back home, and they wouldn't let me just put it in my bag ("we will not allow full face masks in the building"), so I threw it in the trash. A close friend of mine was harassed by a male door person - he touched her while saying her necklace, one she spent months making, was not allowed because it was sharp. She is small and very sweet, and started crying. The Saenger, in short, ruined her experience. This so-called "sharp" necklace was a part of an animal skull. There were a LOT of people inside wearing antlers, but my friend had to go back and put it in her car? He was terrible enough to make her cry. I got a double drink and it was $29. Seriously. I will never go back to the Saenger again. read more
