If you actually like your pet, do NOT leave your pet with them. They basically just have teenagers running it and whoever the owner is wasn't there both times I called. Long story short we left our family dog there while we went out of town. Upon picking him up he seemed different and completely out of it. He had a sore (abscess) on his gums, one of his eyes was completely covered with eye mucus and hair in his eye that could've been removed, and dry caked on medication in his fur...they could've easily wiped it off. Upon coming home he didn't jump on any of us or even appear to be excited like he usually is. He seemed different and kinda stand offish. He has only been to one other pet resort (in another city) and he stayed there a number of times. While at the other one they sent updates while he was there and he was his normal self once we picked him up. Idk what they have going on at this place but we took our dog to the vet immediately after picking him and have him checked out. Mind you, we have never had to take him to the vet out of concern at the previous place. His bark also changed because he was barking consistently. He usually doesn't bark much unless something or someone is bothering him. He now has a "hoarse" bark that will eventually get better. But it only makes me wonder what he went through being there. It doesn't sound like they actually care for the dogs even though they have "protocols" in place. Crazy.... read more

Really great facility, you can tell the staff truly cares about the animals here. We have boarded our dog Bear and our cat Tigger here several times over the past year and every time they come home full of energy. They also send us daily photo updates which makes the biggest difference for someone who is a nervous pet parent like I am. Highly recommend to anyone! read more

Amazing facility and incredibly nice staff. Our pup loved his overnight stay and we enjoyed being able to watch him on the webcam. However when we picked our dog up I was charged almost $40 more than the price I was quoted when we booked the stay online. I assumed it was an honest mistake and so I called to ask about it. I had to battle an automated phone tree telling me no one was available for about 15 minutes before I was able to speak to anyone. When I did get to speak to someone she informed me that it was incredibly busy and that she would have to call me back later which was fine, I understood. I got a call back about an hour later and they informed me that I was charged correctly and that their website for online bookings doesn't calculate the cost correctly and that in the future I should book online and then call them to confirm what the price would really be. This whole ordeal was a little ridiculous and was pretty disappointing. In this day and age where everything is online it's imperative that a website be accurate and working correctly. To just claim that it's the customers responsibility to ensure accurate pricing is poor customer service. I've always taken my dog to get groomed here and I'm usually always happy with it! However recently I went and had a conversation with what I wanted with the groomer as usual, we decided to go a little shorter than normal, however when I got Rum back... she had completely cut all of her whiskers off. Her being a jack russell mix, she's supposed to be a little scruffy in the face and her cutting scruff is fine but the whiskers??? They're still growing back and it's just awful :( read more

If you are a customer of Safari Pet Resort, I highly suggest going somewhere else because they don't care about loyal customers. Their loyalty program that has been in place since we have been going there (about 2 years) abruptly ended with no notifications whatsoever. We had a loyalty card filled out that called for a $30 off of a grooming. I was told, "I'm sorry, but we don't take those anymore, but we're sorry" Yeah, you're sorry all right because you just saved having to give a $30 discount. No telling how many others have been cheated the same way. If possible, I would have given a 0 rating. We're very disappointed in Safari. On a positive note, our groomer, Laney, was awesome. read more

Has down may be the best place in middle Tennessee. I would personally not pay any attention to the negative reviews. If people have an issue they need to call and speak to the staff they will happily make it right. They may be a little pricy but have you seen what they offer? Although I did take of one-star for the inconvenience of my 2 dogs getting kennel cough, I must say that the thorough response I have gotten from Safari is what customer service should be. I sent a copy of the vet bill to the office manager and my reimbursement was in the mail by the end of the week - in full. Thank you Safari! Original post: Brought my 2 pups here to stay for the 4th of July holiday - Paid for the deluxe kennel for them - just over $500 bucks for the weekend! What did I get back?? 2 pups with KENNEL COUGH! I will never use this place again! I was quoted one price for boarding my two dogs over the phone when I made my reservation and at checkout, was charged significantly more. Their prices are truly outrageous! But most importantly, one of my dogs was supposed to be given her medication every 8-12 hours. When I picked her up, they hadn't given her the meds for over 14 hours. This was irresponsible and dangerous for my dog! This is the very first time I have left a Yelp review for anywhere. I was told Safari will no longer board dogs over 10 years of age because their climate controlled areas may not stay cool in the heat and cannot guarantee their safety. They said it was because there is not someone on site 12 hours out of the day to be able to move pets if needed when the air conditioning goes out. They waiting until 12 hours before I was to drop my girl off to tell me this when I had made the reservations weeks ago. They really put me in a bind by waiting so long. BE WARNED! If you have an older dog, look elsewhere for boarding. Maybe they should invest some money in newer HVAC or in staff to be on site 24 hours a day. They sure charge enough for their services that you should be able to expect they could handle boarding a senior dog safely. I will be watching their website to see if they advertise boarding services for dogs that are only under the age of 10! read more

My golden doodle had attended daycare once a week for about a year when I began to get calls in about 15 minutes after dropping her off from Safari saying she "had a seizure.". I picked her up and took her to the vet who saw no apparent issues but advised us on symptoms and to keep a log. We have seen no issues but whenever I took her to Safari they would call within 15 minutes after I dropped her off saying she had a seizure. When I picked her up after they called this week, they told me she couldn't come back unless it was for a grooming. If they are truly concerned she is a seizure pet, I would suspect she would be a risk for grooming also. In addition, the follow up email has an auto fill feature with a "Do not" placed after her name as a part of her name in several places. That is not a great marketing tool! I offered to provide a note from my vet but that was not entertained. The lady (floor manager) said my dog had grand mal seizures and it could be fatal if they last for 5 minutes. Safari is the only feedback we've ever had that has anything to do with our pet having seizures. We have never observed any seizure like activity and we have been diligent in watching. We have obtained another location to use for any services. I would not ever use them again as they have no credentials to diagnose but definitely did that in our case. Also, if our pup has that sort of anxiety and it only manifests there, I really wonder what the situation is that induces it. It has certainly increased my anxiety as her mom! read more

The staff is extremely personable and friendly, takes really great care of the pups, and remembers who you are when you come in. This is such a wonderful place to bring my dachshund Lady H. She is still shy and not sure she wants to play, but the staff is so patient with her and insures she is safe while getting use to her play friends. I am also impressed with the cleanliness of the facility. It seems like they clean after every play session. my sweet lady never smells like she has been in a kennel when she comes home. if I could give it zero stars I would this place is an absolute mess, I brought my fur baby here last week for the first time I was shocked at how expensive it was & how rude the front desk employees were to me they fool you with the nice decor thinking it'll be a lavish experience for your pet but it's not. My baby was small so I had her in small daycamp all day I watched the cameras every playtime she had and for the first two I didn't even see her !!! I figured I just wasn't seeing her the first group but the second I had to call and remind them my dog was suppose to play ... she made it out the last two hours of the day but whoever was inside with her to watch over her was being SO ROUGH with my little baby. To spare the details not only was she not being watched and bullied by other dogs so now she has a cut above her eye but she came home to me with PEE on her back and legs ?! So a dog peed on mine and nobody noticed or thought to maybe bathe her or even tell me, I was appalled and wasn't even offered a refund of any sort I was giving fake apologies to rush me out the door and left beyond upset they could be so careless with my baby having the audacity to charge so much, all this place cares about is money please spare your pets the displeasure of being here it's all sparkle on the inside. My dog was half groomed. Paid way too much for a terrible job that took all day. I'm now at the dog ER with a traumatized dog.

We were impressed on arrival. The Safari theme seemed pretty cool and we were looking forward to our two dogs having day care there. We asked for a tour since this was our first time. We were given a brief tour of the facility, but were told we couldn't see where the dogs were at that time. I asked again if we could view the primary play area, but we were told no, but we could view on the live video feed. When we got home I tried the video feed, but I got lot of video errors and never saw our dogs. When I arrived to pick up the dogs I was charged $115.00 for day play. I asked if there was a multiple dog discount, but was told "not anymore," even though their website says there is. My question is "why would I pay $40 a day more than I'm currently paying at Pet Suites?" We have used Pet Suites, My Second Home and Dogtopia in the greater Nashville area. If you are going to read any review please let it be this one!!! I have a very high energy dog that was non social for his first stay here. Not because he is aggressive towards other dogs, but because the behaviorists there saw it was a new environment, and did not want to overstimulate him. During his stay, they did not answer ANY of my requests for an update and I had to reach out on Facebook to even get half of a response. I brushed it off as it was spring break and I figured they were incredibly busy. When I arrived to pick up my dog, he was covered in ticks, weak, and contracted kennel cough somehow. None of this would make sense unless he was around other dogs. I began to get extremely concerned when his behavior started changing. He was showing signs of aggression (food aggression most prominent). I immediately called and spoke to Brittney, voicing my concerns. She was very helpful and offered to reimburse my vet bill. At the vet I learned that he lost 10 pounds in just over a week. This makes zero sense considering I received a call about him "running out" of his specialized kibble. It was a 30 pound bag. After stating my concerns to Brittney yet again, she began brushing everything under the rug and stating that it was "just a product of being at their facility for so long". I asked for verification of meals, his post-stay body inspection, and to speak with the person who supervised my dog. She refused and then did not reimburse me for my vet bill. However I did get a refund. Now I am having to put my dog through specialized training to break these habits that these people instilled on him. Do not bring your dogs here unless you want to pick them back up with some serious issues!!! read more

We have brought our dog here a couple times before and I had to make a cancellation for this weekend. Unfortunately, they would not refund me - even though I had a family emergency. It was completely out of my control. They say that you must cancel 4 days in advance, which doesn't make sense because I booked the reservations a couple of days ago. Ugh. So frustrating. We probably won't come here again. Pet grooming doesn't get better than this. It's extremely reasonable for the best special cuts around (we have a Yorkie). It's beautiful and spacious. There's a window where you can see how the dogs are being treated while they're being groomed. It smells fresh and just clean there. There's a saltwater pool out back for the dogs and specialty packages you van buy for your dogs, though we have not utilized them yet. When I went to go pick Sergeant up from Safari he was wagging his tail and smelled and looked divine. After several frustrating and subpar experiences with PetCo and PetSmart, this is where we will be taking our pup from here on out. read more

I been taking my dogs here for over 10 years..I have a miniature schnauzer that is almost 15years old, he had the normal cysts and schnauzer bumps that comes along with that...I brought him there for a groom Sunday and the next day his back is full of scabs..I even took my dog back there to show them..I have never seen anything like it...I did request at least half of what I paid, due to know I have to go to the vet and spend more than that, but they act like they really didn't want to give me anything until I suggested it, and tried to put back on the dog like it was on him that it came out like that..the point is it wasn't like that before he came, its been a disappointment...I see this place has grown to be less of taking care of your pets to more of how much money can we make off this dog... read more

My cat Phoenix is 12 years old, long haired and obsessed with water. I brush him every day and still he gets so matted so he requires grooming. It's hard finding places that groom cats period and I was previously using a place in Antioch that I loved but when we moved to Murfreesboro I decided to try Safari as my cat HATES car rides and it's 5 minutes down the road. I'm glad I did. I've always wanted to get him a dragon cut (We usually go with lion) and I was so excited when Safari said they could do that! I used to work in dog/cat boarding for many years and have seen some not good things so am always worried when trying out a new place, especially when it involves Phoenix (my baby) They did a fantastic job! He did have a little bit of razor burn but that's normal especially considering the matting was soooo bad. In the past, he has seemed a bit upset when he comes home but this time he was prancing around clearly feeling a lot better and seemed almost proud of his haircut for the first time haha. Thank you Margarette for doing a fantastic job on Phoenix. I think he looks amazing. I have not used any of their boarding services so cannot comment on that but they did let us take a tour of the cat boarding room and they have webcams (Which may not be good for my vacation as I would obsessively be checking them lol) and we will consider boarding him in the future but it's a bit over our budget if we went away for a week. But we will definetely go back when Phoenix needs his next haircut! He even came home with a cute report card saying he was as "calm as a toothless tiger" LOL love it! The only tips I can recommend (Which my boyfriend did the calling and he isn't the greatest on details) is that we weren't given a price over the phone and he seemed a little bit confused on what time pick up/drop off was. Not a big deal and we will definetely be back! Also, one of the boarding places I worked at we gave bandanas and bow ties for the grooms. Most owners didn't seem to care or would just rip them off but I would LOVE for them to include this or make it an option with a small extra fee because I loved when Phoenix came home one day with a bow tie! I want to add another appreciative report about Safari and their excellent staff. We were out of the country for 9 days and was very apprehensive about leaving our Sheltie baby for so long, but we had great confidence in the Safari team to take care of our little girl. They did not disappoint. While we were away, she attended the obedience classes and they made a huge positive difference in her behavior and obedience to request. The Safari team is always supportive and kind. Our Sheltie enjoys going to play days and she looks beautiful after each grooming. WE are Safari fans!!! read more

Incredibly overpriced. I want to start with the positive. Safari is a clean facility that is staffed with pleasant people. My two dogs stayed for 10 days and seemed fine when I picked them up. It was the bill that floored me. $1200 for the most basic services. Some of this was nickel and dime stuff. The base price was around $32 a night. One dog was a couple of dollars higher than the other dog. Not sure why. One dog was charged for ten nights, the other for eleven nights. They came in and left at the same time, so not sure why there was a discrepancy. There was a 10% discount for my second pet, but it wasn't over the entire bill but to a random number. The discount amounted to only $24.76 off. One dog was charged differently for grooming. This grooming was an additional fee that was not included in the base price. We added the grooming so that was not a surprise. We were told there was a 10% reduction for the second pet, but it was for only part of the grooming. It came out to a $2.79 discount. This was annoying but what was upsetting was the added bronze package. My husband foolishly added this "special package" which doubled the base price. For the base price you got a kennel, bedding, food, water, and three potty breaks a day. The special package added an hour of outside play, a "gourmet" dog treat and a story at bedtime. So I paid an extra $23 a day so my dogs could get out of their crate for an hour a day. I made what I believe was a mistake and the company is not responsible for my sticker shock. But I wanted to write an honest review so other consumers know what to expect. This is a clean facility with pleasant people. I just think it is extremely expensive read more

Please be aware! i requested that my my best friend (little yorkie) not be placed in the neck harness he was recently released for a neck injury from the veterinarian hospital.. Before making his grooming appointment I was guaranteed the neck harness would not be used. I dropped him off today, spent over 10 minutes speaking to who I believe was the owneruuu. Once again I was guaranteed this would not happen. To my dismay and surprise. When I went to pick him, A little early. The harness was around his neck! Managements explanation wise they do not read the paperwork that I filled out this morning. They move to computers. And seldom look at them. Thank you for your apology. I work everyday most days over 8 hrs so my dog Maisie loves going to doggy daycare at Safari Pet. She gets to be outside, weather permitting to swim, play, run or just chill with other dogs her size. The staff have always been very friendly and know each pet by name. The property is spacious and very nicely kept, a bonus Maisie has lost a few pounds with the extra exercise II I just signed Maisie up for more Safari time. read more

I have used Safari for many years but no more. I made a boarding reservation MONTHS in advance. Due to some local issues with canine pneumonia and Bordetella, Safari decided to close a few days which is entirely understandable. Here's the problem. They didn't reach out to let us know. They only put a message on Facebook and possibly other social media but I'm not sure. I do not follow every business on social media. I just happened to call and that's how I found out. Imagine my shock. I went out on Facebook to look them up and they had indicated they would start taking new boardings 2 days after our boarding was to start but I was not advised of that. I was basically told I could still leave him but left to believe it would be at my own risk. The person I spoke with made no mention of obtaining a canine pneumonia vaccine but they did online. I tried to call them back and received an automated response that this number is no longer in service. What? I reached out through email. An unnamed person responded saying they had posted that they would be closed for two days for training. That's fine but leave a voice mail saying your offices are closed for training not that the number is no longer in service. Not everyone follows you on social media for crying out loud. Use a little common sense! This whole situation was such a disaster I made a decision to never go back. The person emailing me continued to do so without giving their name. That's a coward! Bad Customer service!! We brought our mini aussie in for a full groom and our Itty pittie in for anal expression. I will start by saying we have taken our dogs there before for grooming and it was a pleasant experience so I was happy to bring them back. I called last week and spoke to someone about setting up an appt I asked the price of a full groom and summer shave down and was quoted anywhere from 67.00-77.00 for the mini aussie and 15.95 for the pittie, no issues. They were polite and sent me a welcome 25% off coupon, I took it as a welcome back since it has been sometime. We arrived for our appt went through the check in process and they sent a groomer out to speak to us we explained we wanted the mini aussies hair cut 1-1 1/2 inch all over she said that would be a wild and wooly (ok you're the groomer call it whatever just as long as you do what I ask). I didn't discuss price then MY MISTAKE)!!! We returned to pick up our dogs I went to get their report cards and pay the bill, she stated that will be 111.00 and some change. I politely explained I was quoted this amount by this person (giving name) she apologized and told me to wait a moment while she corrects the issue. I patiently waited as she spoke to the manager and grooming dept. they stated that they found his previous profile they had my last name spelled wrong, it showed I paid 72.95 for the mini aussie to be groomed. She corrected the price and apologized again for the inconvenience, thanked her for her help. They brought our mini aussie out and he had barely been trimmed I expressed that I really wanted his hair cut shorter. The Supervisor in the grooming dept came and spoke to us about our concerns she stated that there would be an additional charge to trim him down more, I asked how much. She brought out a book of prices showing me that the ultimate package for a mini aussie over 16' was 73.95 I informed her I paid 72.95 and was more than happy to pay the addition 1.00 she said no worries since I has paid 72.95 they took him back to fix the issue. We returned to pick him up the grooming supervisor greeted us smiling stating he looks amazing! Then it turned negative she said that after we left there was a meeting with her and the GM and she was to inform me from now on his grooming will cost 102.95, she said that it was a lot of work I brought to her attention that if done right the first time it wouldn't have been so much work. She then informed us it's also for the fact that he isn't a mini aussie but a standard aussie that they have a mini in the back that they are happy to SHOW me what a mini looks like at this point I was becoming agitated and asked my boyfriend to take Scout to the truck as he was already anxious. I politely informed her that I used to breed mini aussies and I'm well aware of their sizes. I then asked her to please get the GM since he was the one that wanted her to deliver this info so he could talk to me face to face, I waited for about 10 mins before he came to speak to me. As he walked towards me he made a comment about me chewing my gum like I was mad or something I responded with "well I'm not amused". I expressed to him that I didn't appreciate them questioning my dogs breed that yes he is on the larger side of a mini but still a mini. He asked me to wait while he got my paper work so we could look into it further, he read to me what the paper said which I could clearly read also had no prices. He wasn't aware of what I had already paid nor the fact that I was quoted a price over the phone. I re-explained the series of events from the phone call to where we were at this point, he pulled out the price book and attempted to show me that the price was 73.95 for the ultimate package I agreed and told him I would pay the extra 1.00. I asked him where he was getting 102.95 as we are looking at the price in the book for 73.95. He made a comment that we have to fair to the ladies doing the grooming as they have to buy their babies shoes and stuff. He also explained to me that he and his wife have standard poodles and they are lucky they can groom them because they wouldn't be able to afford it, I said yes thats why i price checked before coming to make sure i could afford it. He shut the book and asked may I see your dog I told him of course and took him to meet Scout in the truck. He saw him and said well looks like they did a rough cut and guessed how tall my dog was we returned into the shop where he stated he will have to do research on a mini versus a standard aussie and he would call me and let me know a price for the future. As i exited the building I could hear him stating to the Grooming Supervisor that he needed to do research on that breed. Based on the interaction with the GM whether he calls me back or not I probably won't return nor will I recommend them to anyone. He was very patronizing and rude you don't question your customers in that way nor the breed of their dog. read more

We boarded both our English bulldog & Schnauzer here last Thanksgiving and paid an arm and a leg. Naturally, we expected the best service since they have a great looking facility and they charge a ton. When we picked them up at 3pm, both our dogs peed for literally a minute, almost as if they hadn't been taken out since the night before. My bulldog was parched AND the best part (sarcasm) was that he got an ear infection during his stay, which we've been battling to effectively cure for almost a year now! Yay:) he was completely healthy until he was boarded at Safari for 4 days, 3 nights. We've taken him countless of times to the vet and paid over $600 to try and cure his ear infection to no avail. All because we boarded him here. Was it worth it? Hah! I think not. So please take my advice and take your dog elsewhere!!! I cannot beg you enough. read more

I have two really big babies (Mastiff / Great Dane) who love going to the pet safari. I travel so I leave them more often then I like but I love that they get so excited when they see where going to pet safari. They love it here, they actually get sad when I have to pick them up because they want to stay and play with their friends! Prices are reasonable whether your doing a day stay or an overnight visit. I boarded my dog here for 4 nights recently. It was my first time boarding and the friendliness of the staff made it easier. I was definitely a concerned pet mom and called two different times during his stay. The first time they called me back within an hour - the second it took them three hours to call back. When I made the reservation they quoted me the nightly price then provided three additional "packages" I could add during this stay (Gold - Silver - Bronze) in my opinion they were all very overpriced and not worth the amenities. When I told her I didn't want any she mentioned (1 time) to make sure I let them know at the front desk when I checked in. Which I though was odd because I already said I didn't want it and if I did then I would call and tell them. But nonetheless when I went in to turn in the paperwork a few days early because my sister would be dropping off my dog and I wanted it to go seamless I told them about the reviews here about being nickeled and dimed for everything and being charged for services people Didn't want - the nice young women checked my account and said "oh yes we had you signed up for the bronze package" I thought oh really because I was pretty adamant I did not want a package. It seems like the women booking is a hard sales person gives you the "oh check when you check in schpeel" and signs you up anyway - dirty trick but at least she warned me right? I also signed him up for a bath before pickup which was nice because I could pick him up after 2pm. They also sent me a free night coupon for a first time guest so overall the 4 nights and bath cost $109.00 not too bad - but only excuse previous reviews warned me. If I had to board again I would come back - just be careful with what you are getting and signing up for - I wish they would give you and estimate of Costa prior to leaving - it would make things go a lot better for their human guests / this way we would feel cheated or that you are trying to scam us. read more
