This was the most stress free and successful move I have ever experienced. I have moved my daughter 12 times throughout her college career achieving her doctorate degree and securing a job in the Boston area. James and his crew were very professional, energetic(they had to climb 5 flights of stairs in 80 degree weather), and communicated well. This company is highly recommended and reasonably priced. We had a pretty good move with these guys, and I'd recommend them. On the positive side, they arrived right on time, and were unbelievably efficient. The move happened much more quickly than I would've guessed. They did a great job protecting our items and none of our furniture was damaged in the move. They also moved things I thought might've been difficult to move (large, bulky and heavy objects) with fair ease. On the less positive side, there was some damage to walls on both sides of the move. (To be fair, some of our spaces are tight and this is almost inevitable.) After pointing out this damage, the owner of the company, Chris, reached out to help address the issue, which was thoughtful and professional of him. Were incredibly quick, wore masks, were very professional, nothing was damaged. Absolutely would use them again if/when I have to move again in the Boston area, would recommend them to friends/family without reservation. They will even dis-assemble and re-assemble furniture, which is fantastic. The only minor annoyance I found was they're kind of slow depositing checks, if you pay by check rather than cash. I just want to give a HUGE thank you to Aaron, DJ, and Kevin who were my movers yesterday. A 9/1 move in Boston is always the worst and most stressful, but they alleviated that right away. They arrived ahead of schedule, which is uncommon for moving companies especially at the end of the day. They got right to work and within 2 hours on the dot, they had me completely into my new place. And they were not sloppy about it either. They put everything where I asked. These guys were AMAZING. They showed up right on time (which was early in the morning) and they were in great spirits. They were total pro's and quickly assessed their strategy and went to work. I was only moving about a mile from where I was before, but they were SUPER positive, helpful and great the whole time. My couch didn't even fit in the elevator and when they had to take the stairs (up 3 flights) - they didn't even bat an eye even though it was clearly a pain in the ass. This was my first time using a moving company so I did some research before I decided to go with safe responsible movers. What a good decision I made. They have competitive rates, and a flat travel fee. Most movers charge from the second their truck leaves the warehouse and if you're like me and want to move north of Boston from the south of Boston, the traffic on 93 can get pretty rough. Three movers arrived on time as scheduled, they were courteous and efficient. They moved quickly and didn't take any breaks. They moved my entire apartment in about 2 hours, including the travel time. Pretty impressive. Safe Responsible Movers helped me move from South Boston to Dorchester at the end of June. Not only is this the worst time to move in the year but also it being the end of the month i knew to expect some problems. There were ZERO problems and they absolutely crushed it!! I didn't have tons of stuff but had tricky winding stairs and lots of fragile items. They took care of it with ease and it barely took 2 hours. I highly recommend them for any move. They arrived early and were very efficient and nice guys. They treated my furniture and packed items with care, and they were just all around solid experts being able to carry everything up a third floor walk-up without an issue. I'd give them 10 stars if I could. We've used them twice within 2 months. They could not possibly have been harder working, or more professional. Seriously- moving is difficult. They made it as painless as possible. I can't believe how hard these people work. And they are really nice. Had a brief conversation with one of the movers, Kevin. What a nice guy. They answered my initial inquiry within 24 hours, and followed up with a detailed account of what all of their charges would be for the move, even providing us ways we could save money. I recently hired Safe Responsible Movers for my September 1st move. For anyone that lives in Boston you know this is a crazy day especially for movers. I was moving from a first floor to a fourth floor walk-up. Unfortunately, due to other customers not being prepared the 3 moves before me fell very far behind. They were scheduled to arrive at 1:30p and around 12:15p they called to let me know they were behind. They were honest in that they didn't know how long the next move would take but promised to keep me informed. I knew it was a crazy day and completely understood why there would be a delay. Around 2:40p they called to let me know they were on the way and arrived 20mins earlier than expected. I had all my furniture and boxes prepared and ready to go. From start to finish including travel time it took them an hour and 20 minutes! They were my heroes by the end of a very long and stressful day of moving. I was so impressed with their kindness, care for my stuff and their efficiency in getting everything packed and moved quick but with care. They thanked me several times for being prepared and willing to help. From beginning to end this was a great overall experience. They were transparent about costs and kept me well informed. If you take their e-mails seriously and as a consumer are prepared for the move they are experts in their craft. Just finished a two-part move with Safe Responsible Movers. They were not just efficient and effective, but courteous, friendly, and kind, and I recommend them very highly. During Move Part 1, at the top of August, we did not have our dressers emptied in time, so I did not list them as items to move in my inventory. But the movers noticed the dressers and said they would move them if we emptied it while they were getting everything else done. They also asked about other items of furniture that were not on the original invoice. And they were very careful to make sure they had the correct items even though our stuff was unfortunately somewhat mingled with our former roommates' stuff. During Move Part 2, at the end of September, they moved a lot of boxes out of a dusty basement along with some furniture and two pieces of exceedingly large and ungainly woodworking equipment (a drill press and a table saw). Again, they were very careful to make sure they were moving the right possessions and that everything went into in the correct place in the new residence. They were even affectionate and friendly to my dog, who was on premise and really wanted to meet them. Moving is awful and I never want to move again! But it would have been ten times worse if not for their help. read more

So these guys got me out of Yelp retirement. I have read so many fake reviews on Yelp about movers. I actually caught the same guy reviewing two different companies at the same time on the "most recent reviews" section saying both were great, 5 stars. Lots of other horror stories of other companies offering discounts in exchange for 5 star reviews. I actually started sorting reviews by the worst ones first, because at least I could assume they were real(ish). In Boston there are dozens of companies, ranging from the national to some guy with a van. The prices are an amazing variety as well, Gentle Giant quoted a ridiculous number at over $1300 to move a 1 bedroom from Allston to Quincy. Another one said they could do it for maybe $350. Add to that all the fears about guys taking breaks, getting "lost", and having to make two trips with the van in order to stretch the hourly rate, I was seriously not looking forward to hiring a moving company. Enter Safe Responsible Movers. As one article put it, "a name that only a search engine could love." Right off the bat a reasonable quote, not the lowest, certainly not the highest, actually just below average for what I had gotten back so far. No extra charge for stairs (good thing, because I was up 4 flights with no elevator), and a flat fee for travel and gas. That actually took me by surprise, because other companies were going to charge me for the gas and time it took for them to drive BACK from my place to their garage once the move was over. They wanted me to be very specific about what items I had to move, how many boxes, etc. This gave them a result of a 16 foot truck and three guys (another surprise, most other movers only offered two). Also there was a minimum of two hours work time, including driving to Quincy. Ok, sounds good. Lets do it. I got a call from either the office manager or the owner a few days before (btw, if a review names all the people they worked with down to the truck driver, dead giveaway it's a fake), unfortunately I don't remember his name, but he was very friendly and courteous. Three hour window, between 1 and 4 on Saturday. Ok. Day of I got a call from the guy leading the crew. He was wondering if he could swing by a little early, !2:30. I said hell yes. What happened next feels like a hot sweaty dream, and while not the kind I normally go for, was still a hell of a lot better than what I was expecting. The day was hot. Like 95 no joke. I was sweating standing there. These guys rush in, take one professional eyeball at everything, and get to goddamn work. Boom, stuff is already going down the stairs within two minutes of saying hello. I think Andrew was his name, not sure, but he was the leader of the group of three, which all together looked like a kickass 80's punk band. He coordinated loading of the truck, which made me glad I'd never faced him in a game of Jenga or Tetris, cause the guy could STACK. They redefined hustle. No breaks, I offered them some Gatorade, because up until that point I felt completely useless. Literally before I knew it, they were wrapping the TV in blankets, taping it up, and taking it out. Nothing left. Empty. Done. 1 hour. My wife had taken the car so she was waiting at the new place already. I was going to take the T and meet them there. The guys set out in the van, I got on the B line. After a transfer to the Red line to Wollaston my wife is frantically texting me. "They're almost DONE! You have the checkbook!" BTW these guys do everything right there, no bills, no invoices, also no credit cards. Good old fashioned cash or check on the spot. I appreciated that, no hidden fees later. Problem was the checkbook was in my pocket and I was four stops away. By the time I got there the guys were sitting on the curb, sweaty and tired, but done. A little over two hours folks. Including travel time. Unbelievable. The final cost was almost 150 less than I expected, so I made it up in their tip (cash). So these guys get a wholehearted recommendation from me, they had absolutely no reason to hustle the way they did, especially in that heat, but they did. Not all heroes wear capes. These are guys were nothing short of amazing! This was a particularly challenging move as it occurred on the day of a snow storm that dumped 1 foot of snow.! They took everything in stride and never once complained. This was a two stop move and when we arrived to the 2nd drop off location at the end of the day at my condo complex it had still not been properly plowed and shoveled yet--hey The Dartmouth Group get your sh*t together!! (but this will be a totally different review !! ) They shoveled their way to my unit which was above and beyond!! These guys ROCK. Sent details of move on email, listing furniture, estimate of Boxes, etc. Got estimate back within hours, explaining charges for drive time, hourly rate, etc. They estimated we'd need 1 24' and 1 16' truck and 4 crew. They called about an hour before scheduled time to say they'd be 15 minutes late, but they actually arrived on time. Along with the trucks, 5 crew- no charge for the 5th. The guys were all extremely responsive and thoughtful, wrapping antiques and fragile items securely, working quickly and methodically. If we hadn't bought them coffee and munchkins I doubt they wouldn't have taken a break, and in fact they didn't - just took a drag on the cup on the way up or down the stairs. Masterful packing of the trucks, both wound up completely full top to bottom. They said they would take a 1/2 hour lunch break on the way to the new house (about a 1-1/2 hour drive, but I think they ate on the way, as they were there waiting for us when we got to the house. Unpacking went swiftly, and really went out of their way to make sure everything got to the right place. All of them so cheerful and displaying such good vibes, really made what could be a stressful day so easy. Couldn't be happier with this crew. read more

We recently had a large move from Boston to Halifax and hired Safe Responsible Movers to assist. Before selecting them, we did pretty extensive research into a number of their competitors. They didn't come in the lowest cost, but the flat rate travel fee was the big reason for our choice. Being such a long distance to travel, unforeseen traffic could have increased our cost drastically with other companies. My early communications were with James. He was always quick to reply and offered multiple options for our move. In the end, we chose four movers and one truck. We knew there was a chance that all of our stuff wouldn't fit on the one truck so we asked James (and the team on move day) to prioritize the larger items. While they ultimately didn't get everything, they got more than we had expected. The guys were very efficient. They were gentle with our belongings and packed the truck super efficiently. I was amazed how they were able to utilize the space. Move in was a breeze. They put everything where we asked and even made some last minute changes to furniture location for us. In the end, we came in well under budget. I will never, ever move without movers again. I wouldn't hesitate to call Safe Responsible Movers in the future. read more

Chris+1 showed up and helped me move 2 years ago, and I could not have hoped for a better experience! They were VERY good at their jobs, and knew how to carry every item down my narrow staircase from the 3rd floor. They were also ridiculously strong and able. They handled everything like it was their own, and harnessed everything securely in their MASSIVE truck. They even had equipment to wrap up stuff like my TV (which didn't even get a scratch!), and actually saved me a lot of trouble by correcting a mistake I was about to make with my AC! (I was going to take it with me in my car, but they stopped me, drained the water - whoops! - and then wrapped and secured it in their truck. 11/10, would recommend to anyone. read more

Had known that hiring movers was so affordable, I wouldn't have waiting until my 10th move, which happened to be across state lines. Think of all those pizzas, beers, and friendships we could have saved. Seriously, folks - I did my research and ultimately went with Safe Responsible Movers because of their location near my apartment and the final quote. They did not disappoint. Chris is super nice and his team of musicians by night/moving guys by day seem slight but are deceptively strong. A two story, 2 bed, 2 bath, 3 and 4th floor walk up brownstone (with very narrow stair) to our new house in Providence cost a grand total of, wait for it...only $1000, with lunch on us and tip you're looking at a very reasonable amount. What I love about these guys is they don't nickel and dime you with extra costs for tape and wrapping supplies for your Van Gogh's, and travel is done at a flat rate. They will gladly set everything up in its appointed rooms or leave for you to sort out if you're running against a time clock. The one weak link and the reason for a 4* review, is FOLLOW UP. Turn around time from the other companies was within 24 hours and I knew they wanted my business. I had to repeatedly tell SRM that we wanted a quote from them. Initially I had written them off because I hadn't heard from them and was worried this would be emblematic of moving day. First month, last month, and security deposit for room in fantastic new Central Square apartment: $2,500 Boxes and packing materials: $65 Movers/truck for cross-town move on busiest moving day of the year: $525 Peace of mind knowing that I was in excellent hands with movers that were hard workers, showed up on time, did not overcharge or add on extra costs, not shady in the least, understood my wishes and followed through on them without hesitation, and were intelligent, nice guys: PRICELESS. Safe Responsible Movers picked a perfect name for their company, because that is absolutely what they are. They took my job request with less than a week's worth of notice and were able to fulfill my request even on the craziest moving weekend possible (Labor Day weekend.) They provided outstanding service at a very reasonable rate, and at no point did I feel that my belongings were in anything but good hands. I never thought I'd put a move at the top of my list as far as good experiences go, but Safe Responsible Movers surpassed my expectations and then some. Great experience with Safe, Responsible Movers. I signed a lease and had to move all within the span of two weeks and they were able to squeeze me in on a holiday week, no problem. They moved me out of my one bedroom and into a new place in under 2 hours. Every item of furniture made it to my new space unscathed including my grandma's 200 yr old dresser. They were super polite and respectful guys. My new place had just been painted and had the floors redone and everything was brought up a flight of stairs with nary a scratch or scuff. I am currently in the process of relocating from Boston to San Diego, and needed movers help me transport my furniture/belongings down to the U-Pack shipping facility in W. Bridgewater, MA. Upon requesting a quote, Chris sent me one lightning fast, and their rates are competitive and quite reasonable. Leading up to the move, a snowstorm was forecasted for moving day, and Chris was super flexible in navigating the changes in weather, and was even willing to send his movers to my place on a Sunday evening to avoid the snow. That's pretty amazing, in my opinion. The movers arrived on time, and were super friendly and got to work. They had my apartment empty in no time, and packed the U-pack shipping container in Bridgewater with mastery. I just moved on 12/31 and could not have been happier with my experience with these movers! One of the reasons I went with them was because of their flat-rate travel fee (no worrying about how much time they'll take to get to you or return to their facility post-move). On the day of the move, they showed up early (with advance notice and my confirmation that it was OK). When they arrived they were very friendly and moved quickly & efficiently, yet remained respectful of my stuff, noting all the things I marked as fragile, "this side up", etc. I truly felt everything was in good hands with them. Safe Responsible Movers did an outstanding job for me last year (April 2014). Their geographic range may be wider than their office location suggests; they were happy to move me from Bedford to Lynn. They lived up to their name, and they were reasonably priced and extremely professional. When one of their guys was feeling under the weather and not working at full efficiency, they called in a replacement to take his place AND gave me a discounted rate at the end of the move. I had a lot of boxes intended for long-term storage, and one of the guys expertly stacked them in tidy rows so I could inventory everything easily. I was really impressed with that organization, and with the great care they took with my belongings. They also disassembled and reassembled furniture as necessary to get it through tight spaces on either end of the move. Also, although they normally expect payment on delivery, they were very understanding when I realized I'd left my checkbook at the old address (of all the things to leave behind!!). They were kind enough to email me an invoice and allowed me to mail them the check after the fact. If you like conducting business via email, this place is for you. They're very prompt and responsive to emails. You can request a free quote with their handy online form. They got back to me very promptly via email with a reasonable estimate. If you have the flexibility to plan your move for a weekday rather than a weekend, you'll get an even better rate. I have moved myself with friends, I have rented Uhauls, and the last two times I moved I used Gentle Giant for a total of 9 moves in the last 12 years. Gentle Giant was wonderful, but I will never go back after my experience with Safe Responsible Movers (SFM). Yes SFM was cheaper, which was why I gave them a try this last time I moved. But what I really liked were the movers. They were polite and professional, but allowed their personalities to shine through which made them wonderful to work with. They were fast and efficient with emptying my apartment, and just as good unloading into my home. It turns out they were proficient in the language of IKEA as well. I had built a large IKEA armoire inside my apartment, and it did not fit out. In a matter of minutes the broke down the large and complex piece of furniture, and upon arrival put it back together flawlessly in my new home! I cannot recommend them enough! I would give them 6 stars if I could. You can make your own decisions, but I urge you to make the same one I did when you are looking to move. read more

The 5-star rating is well deserved. We ended up with waaaaaaaay more boxes than we thought, and these guys were able to move all of it, plus some additional fragile (& heavy) items that we weren't sure they'd be able to take. They finished our move in 5 hours and were incredibly fast yet careful. Furniture was wrapped for safe transport. One lamp did not survive the trip (apparently due to a common problem with how the lamp was built), but they took care of it. Very professional & polite. Could not recommend them more if you're looking for movers -- not to mention it was very easy to book! read more

It was April 2013, and I was doing my research to hire movers for the first time. Prior to this moving, we had moved 6-7 times over a period of 7 years, and every time we had to ask friends for their help - what a pain to have friends do tough things for you over and over! When I came across the Safe Responsible Movers with an average rating close to 5/5 with 80+ votes, I somehow became suspicious! I could not believe all these reviews were genuine until I finally contacted the company and had the job done by their movers. They could not have chosen a more meaningful name for the company as they are INDEED "safe" and "responsible". In fact, you'll find them much more responsible than your own friends! The movers completed the job in a very reasonable amount of time, and did not take a break unless we forced them to! They were asking questions frequently during the job to make sure to put everything in the correct place and order. Yet, they did not ask too many questions. My wife and I, both, found ourselves willing to leave a generous tip as the job was over. Chris, Dave and Mike are awesome (real real gentlemen).
