I recommend using the stool to make it a little easier. Doing compressions on the mannequin definitely felt like a real-life situation. It would tell you if you have to compress deeper or faster. I liked that it had tips to help you pass each section. I'm also the type that gets conscious when people are watching me doing skills tests. I've been going to these Safety trainings for the past few years to renew my certifications. Easy 2-4 hour course depending on the course taken. I always take the CPR and first aid class. You basically just watch videos most of the time, and in between the instructors teach us the trainings. We do receive a booklet. The certifications now you get through email. A few years ago it, we used to get a physical card at the end of class. I really miss when they did this. I've done this training in San Jose, San Francisco, and recently at the Redwood City location, and they are all the same. I'll be definitely coming back every 2 years to renew. It's to the point, and you learn a lot in my opinion. Also if you check in on Yelp, or on Facebook, they give you a free keychain CPR mask! read more

I have taken BLS through this company and attempted ACLS as well. The customer service is nonexistent. For my BLS skills class, I was turned away for not bringing in a printed out certificate when several of my colleagues were allowed to take the course without the printout. It's 2021. Why are we requiring paper certificates of completion? Who even owns a printer anymore? I also attempted to take ACLS through the company by submitting a form online. Nobody ever contacted me and when I contacted them, they were rude and unhelpful. All of my correspondences with any representative from this company have been unsavory and I would never recommend them to anyone. read more

I am so upset about this experience. I'd give zero stars if possible. Previously, I have been very appreciative of BayAreaCPR because they had provided an online ACLS course with a 1-hour skills demonstration - ideal for those of us who are working RNs. When I took this class previously, the online was rather dull - but it was online, so it was tolerable. I went to the skills portion, and it was done. Now, I guess to save $$ in paying for instructors, they have gone non-human. Meaning - for the skills portion, you go to an empty classroom and log into a computer and do your skills on the manikins in the room, which log whether you are doing it right or not. If you have never been in a CPR class before, let me tell you - the manikins can be a mess. They are plastic Barbie dolls - so they can have all kinds of malfunctions. The plastic bag that is the "lungs" can not be connected, the airway cannot be right, etc. I attempted to take the skills portion of the ACLS test today at 3 pm at the location in San Mateo. I showed up on time, and FIVE HOURS LATER, still unable to complete the skills. It was the worst, most horrible experience in a training environment I have ever had. I have been an RN for nearly 20 years, have done CPR many times on actual humans, and have never had a problem passing a CPR class. Today, I managed to pass the 1-person CPR and the Breathing Portions - but was completely unable to pass the 2-person CPR because of the following reasons: 1. There were 2 manikins in the room. One of the manikins seems to be broken, because no matter how many times I tried to use the bag-valve mask, no chest rise. 2. The the other manikin that had a open airway (where I got get some breaths in) was VERY hard to work with. I literally had to pull the head back all the way hard, in order to get about half of the breaths in. The other half of the breaths were inadequate or too much. 3. The worst problem was that no matter how hard I compressed, it wasn't enough. Even when I tried with my knees with the manikin on the floor. I am fairly fit and strong for a 58-year-old woman, but one would have to be a buff young man with muscles to do the compressions deep enough for that manikin. I called the agents to help several times - I asked that they witness me working on the manikins with the camera. One heard me try several times over the phone. Every single attempt was a fail. The room was very hot, no AC or windows. The weather was over 90 degrees in San Mateo. I did not know it would take so long and difficult, or else I would have brought water to drink. No one to troubleshoot the problems with the manikins, or verify that I actually was doing the CPR correctly. I was in that room for nearly 5 hours, left just before 8 pm because my arms and hands (and brain) were completely exhausted. And still did not pass. The agents I talked to - remotely - were very nice, and I am sincerely hoping that I can reschedule this class with a LIVE INSTRUCTOR. I am posting this Yelp because I do feel the "manikin-only, no instructor" classes are a FAIL. Please be advised of this. If you choose this route - always be sure there is a live instructor! So tired and upset from doing compressions for 5 hrs and still not passing... :-( read more
