I have shopped here for a long time but honestly think I will have to find somewhere else.Every time I go into the store I have difficulty finding what I need as shelves are empty.They also have a new system where you have to pay separately for all toiletries medicines or alcohol.You are generally not even allowed into this section untill you pay separately for your other items.Lines are always very long even during daytime hours and most busy people do not have time to wait in two long lines.Kind of defeats the reason for a supermarket. The final issue is a new one.The store is open untill midnight but no checkouts are open past 9pm.Only checkout is the self checkout.These are not suitable for multiple items as they often malfunction.Few staff are available or willing to help with this.It also limits what items can be bought as self check out items are restricted.Unsure if this is down to staffing or so called progress but it is making the lines even more epic than usual. read more

I feel so sorry for Safeway because there is a very bad staff. woman named Mary. She works at Service counter. But I think she should go to another job. Because of the way she despises customers and discriminates against people. I don't understand why there are tickets sold there, when we come to buy and exchange for those tickets, she doesn't care, and doesn't even care about us even though we got the line to wait for my turn. Safeway Store in American Canyon is very helpful and professional. I recently ordered groceries via the app. I then had a family emergency and had to cancel my grocery order. After having called a couple of other Safeway stores, I found out that this was the store that delivered. We just moved to Napa, Ca. I have used Safeway grocery delivery in the past with no issue (in other areas). I placed my order, the amount came out of my bank. 1200 to 1300 rolls around and no delivery. When I call they said they will call me back. I am then told the amount did not clear (via voice message). I email my banks proof of clearance and customer service still say "well it looks declined on our end". The guy on the phone for the 877-505-4040 is rude and unhelpful. Gives no ways to fix the issue. Does not offer to investigate. Does not reschedule order. Suggests I call my bank to reverse the charges so I get my money back (if it didn't clear why would my bank need to reverse the charges) . So right now I have no groceries and I'm out over 233 dollars. I am reviewing for this location because the amount missing from my bank said it was charged by American Canyon store 1883. Safeway lost a loyal customer. This is ridiculous. A late delivery ok. A problem call me, but fabricating some excuse for non -delivery is just not acceptable. My bank did indeed reverse the charge for me. I will not use Safeway delivery again. If I decide to use a service j will use Whole Foods or Amazon Fresh. read more

(The sandwich maker began my order at 2:50) "I usually love Safeway deli sandwiches, but I'm real sketch as to how these [4] sandwiches are gonna be. My first sandwich is probably cold. They ran out of aioli, no biggie. I'll take it plain. Then they ran out of marinated fresh mozzarella, so please add pesto to the plain fresh mozzarella. Young buck doesn't know how to make one of their sandwiches. Grilled chicken, marinated artichokes, marinated mozzarella, toasted with lettuce and tomatoes on sourdough. Can't promise how this is gonna turn out." Fast forward to my family and I eating the sandwiches. One sandwich has two top bread pieces, so the sandwich was super thick, meanwhile there was a sandwich with two bottoms that were kind of on the soggy side, being how thin they were cut. One sandwich had half with no mozzarella and half with lots of cold mozzarella. Another sandwich had little to no mozzarella. All but one sandwich was very cold since I pretty much spent 50 mins waiting for 4 sandwiches to be made. I'm generally a patient person and don't mind working with someone new, but there literally were no other sandwiches being made but mine and the other deli people couldn't help this new sandwich maker out. I've been coming here for years and years, and will continue to do so. The store is clean and neat, well lit, it's easy to find what you need, and the staff is pretty helpful and friendly overall. But just like any other grocery store, it can get busy during peak hours, especially late night on weekends. I guess that would be my only gripe, the fact that their registers can be understaffed late at night on weekends. But they do a pretty good job of having lots and lots of cashiers during peak hours. This review is mainly for their deli. I never had a Safeway deli sandwich until my boyfriend told me to try it 3 or 4 years back, and it's been my absolute favorite sandwich spot since. Special shout out to the deli artists there, tho. They PACK your sandwiches so you know you get your money's worth. God bless them for keeping cool when there's a long line and they're short staffed (maybe Safeway should hire more so they're not so spread thin?). Jim and Moira are absolutely the ones you want to make your sandwich, though. Was supposed to be a favor for my sis and just a quick bakery pick-up... So I'm waiting in the car while hubby goes to pick up the cakes. Turns out, the Bakery dept didn't have the cakes ready on time. When it was completed, they weren't what sis ordered. Then, the manager offered a price adjustment but said it couldn't be completed at the Bakery dept but to go to customer service. Hubby waits in line for 30+ minutes and customer service says the Bakery dept can do adjustments. (!$@#*(!*#!) Hubby gets out to the car with the 2 cakes and one of them is completely sliding around in the plastic case. Have to go back to the Bakery dept, ask them to stick the cake down to the plastic base. I ask who gave my husband the cake like this, I'm told it was Brandy, the manager. I ask to speak to her. "She's gone for the day". I know it's Xmas Eve. All the more reason why I resent what should have been a quick 10 minute task at most turning into an hour and ten minutes. Safeway American Canyon - get your act together!! In general, Safeway is much too expensive but sometimes you just need that one thing you know they carry. The store portion was generally clean. The bathrooms were not the worst I'd ever seen, but definitely unacceptable. That made it clear they are pretty understaffed. On the same note, there were not enough cashiers for the amount of people checking out and there weren't that many people checking out. There was only two checkers and perhaps 20 people trying to check out. No one tried to fix that issue because they're just weren't enough to cover it. In addition, the self-checkout is of course extremely arduous And I had issues with it. The employee who helped me was really really nice. Everyone who worked in there seemed really nice. Definitely not my first choice of grocery store in general, especially this one. However, it really isn't the worst place in the world. read more

It's Christmas Eve and I'm shopping this afternoon. Even though there were many cars in the parking lot and many shoppers in the store, most or all of the checkstands were open and I didn't have to wait in line. I love this store. They have a great produce department, and I especially love their organic fruits and vegetables. I'm very picky, too, and I'm always happy here. Of course their other departments are all great too but I'm usually focused on great selection of fresh fruit and veggies. I rarely write reviews but I had to. There are no drinking fountains in this store. If I want water I have to buy it. But what do the employees do? I understand they have to pay for a cup in the deli for water. Here is the Osha rules on drinking water for employees. The employer shall provide potable drinking water in amounts that are adequate to meet the health and personal needs of each employee. 1915.88(b)(3) The employer shall dispense drinking water from a fountain, a covered container with single-use drinking cups stored in a sanitary receptacle, or single-use bottles. Horrible service in the Deli area. All I wanted was two chicken breast. The woman behind the counter asked if I wanted 4 it was cheaper so I said ok. She said it be 2 breast and drumsticks or wings. Went here to pick up a cake for my daughter last night and Angelica gave me excellent customer service. I ended up buying a white raspberry cake from the show case. I also grabbed 10 sour bread bowls and a baguette. Since I was only going to buy a cake I didn't take a cart with me. Angelica ringed me up right on the spot, hate it when no one can charge you and you have to go make a line at the front when I am only buying bakery items. She also asked if I cared for a cart which I loved the idea, she called on the speaker for one but it never came. So half hour later to buy my few groceries I needed I asked her name and she said Rebecka. This is ridiculous to have 1 person checking out for a while Safeway store! The staff is very friendly, and they don't seem to be ever be out of anything I need when I go in. It's always very clean, except I've been to the bathrooms at night, and sometimes they look like they've been ignored all day: no toilet seat covers, Toilet paper or paper towels. So that can be frustrating. The only real downside is the deli area. It's taken upwards of 15min for one sandwich to be made. I'm counting from the time I order, I don't include the waiting in line (which also drags). It's really a crap shoot in regards to who makes your sandwich. Some are pros, and some need to get more practice in. And the best part: the gas prices. read more

I decided to do an online order for delivery from this particular Safeway. I ordered the night before, with enough time for the order to be processed. I selected my delivery time window to be between 8am and 10am the following morning. I figured that having the two hour window was enough time, and I had plans to head out afterwards. I'm currently 7 months pregnant and it's difficult for me to be on my feet for hours at a time to do shopping, so I thought that this would be helpful to me. Well 10 o'clock came and went and it was now after 11. I hadn't heard from the driver or from the store. I called customer service and I was told that the the driver was 20 minutes out, and they apologized for the delay. Cool, no problem. Well another two hours passes on by...no delivery. But I did receive a call from the Safeway to take my payment. They charged my card, sent me a receipt. However, the lady on the phone was quite rude. I decided once again to call customer service. This time, they have NO clue where my groceries are. And here we are, another 3 hours have passed... mind you....my delivery was supposed to have been DELIVERED by 10 AM! This time, I called the store directly. The same lady who took my payment over the phone was the one who I spoke with again. She said that the driver was supposed to have given me a call, and that he was stuck at the scales and would be there to deliver the groceries as soon as he could. Well okay fine. Basically my entire day was wasted waiting for these freaking groceries. So, finally I received a call from the driver at 4:07. He asked if I still wanted my groceries. Uhhh...YES. I have already paid for them! I asked him when my groceries will be here. He responds with, "uhhhh.....well I am in American Canyon, so....about another hour." Um. WHAT?? At this point I am unbelievably angry. This is pure negligence and a complete disregard for customer service. What a freaking JOKE. Absolutely unacceptable. Well FINE. I've waited this long...what's another hour? Ha! Jokes on me....the time is now 7:30, and I still have not received my groceries and I have not heard from the driver again. Horrible DELI. one guy running the whole deli/sandwich areas.(and as usuall its usually a new person, folks don't last in this dept for some reason) it usually takes 15-20minutes to get a sandwich if your the only one in line. (SUBWAY is about 3 min and less than 20 minutes even if store is Full of people). there veggies are just so so, bell peppers/cucumbers are thick enouph to choke a horse. apparently they cant make there veggies sandwich friendly size like SUBWAY. there prices keep going up...was $10 for a large then $11 now its $12. prices go up service goes DOWN. I keep trying to get the workers from SUBWAY to work at Safeway to show them how a sandwich Should be made. don't even try to call ahead for a sandwich, no one will answer....they cant, there is only one person working there usually. The GOOD: the meat is fresh and plenty of it.(ask for cheese, its not offered if you don't) there sandwich is HUGE and even at $12 for large, its still worth it for the most part. read more
