This store has stepped up their service and added enough cashiers to adequately serve American Canyon, our neighbors and visitors. I was here on 6/27/22 at about 7 PM or so. I bought a couple of things including 24-pack Water they had on sale for $1.99. As I was walking away reviewing my receipt. I noticed that I was charged for 3 but I only bought 2. To make it easier, I told the cashier that I will just take another case. Looking at the receipt, it's not clear how much exactly I paid. The receipt has Regular Price, Member Savings and forU Store Coupon and the CRV on there. By Examining it carefully, I was being charged $199 and also paid $1.20 for CRV. CRV cost as much as the water. So I went to the first Safeway associate I see and it was Diana at the Self Checkout. I told her that I would like to return the water I've just purchased and asked for their Customer Service. She said she's the customer service. At this point, she already sound angry. She said I have to come back the next day or go to the back of the line of checkout again because their manager is on break or not available. So I walked away from her and went to the cashier. The cashier acknowledge me when I told him.. At this time I think there was 1 or 2 using the Self Checkout. Diana kept on circling around the area angry and yelling, mind you there were a lot of people on the line paying on the register that's open. I got fed up and told her that I am not talking to her anymore, I'm done talking to her because she's so RUDE . She was still walking back and forth and yelling angrily. The cashier processed my refund and needed her to override the register. While she was finishing my refund, someone came up to the register, ended to be the Manager. Diana told her manager that I don't want to get to the back of the line to get my refund. I replied, I was already at the back of the line when I paid my grocery. We walked to the side, explained her what happened and that Diana was so Rude. Manager apologized but just turned around and walked away. I hope someone from the Store or Safeway sees and reviews this and address how Customer Service should be and not have their Employee instigate an argument. I go to stores, come in get what I need and get out, not to be instigated into an argument by rude employee. This person is so rude, can't believe she works there. I shop here because it's the most convenient store for me. Because of this rude employee, Diana, I will NEVER shop here again. read more

Does anyone know what recourse I have with Safeway? I ordered groceries for delivery 2 days ago. When my order was delivered 90% of my order was missing because apparently they forgot a couple bags at their American Canyon Store according to the store manager there. I was told they would deliver the rest of my order between 8 am and 12 pm and nobody showed up. I called and spoke to the manger of the store around 1:30 pm and he told me he was leaving at 6 pm and it will be delivered shortly. 4:30 rolled around I decided to call the American Canyon store and a woman answered the phone and she said the order was in route and should be at my home any moment. 7:30 pm rolled around nothing. I called customer support at corporate and asked for a refund. I was told a refund was processed. Instead of a refund they charged my card for more money. Today I received a call from the American Canyon Store again and they said they were processing a refund which i don't believe they will. Am I just out the money? Is there any consumer protection agency that protects us from companies like Safeway if they don't deliver and keep your money? Any advice is appreciated! read more

WORST, WORST, WORST service, long lines, employees engaging in there own conversations. What ever happened to customer service apparently Safeway doesn't care. if they did they would pay attention to all the reviews and try to improve but instead they ignore them. I guess Safeway has low expectations beginning from the managers! because it's starts from the management team to be able to train employees on work ethic and everything else that's comes with it. Go to relays, Nob Hill, traders joes and even Whole Foods you'll see what customers service is. Thankfully for me there is more out then just Safeway dumbs up for that . read more

For a store that Prides itself with high-quality food especially especially Specialty Foods like gluten free and vegan I see very few sugar-free items especially in the cake and baking aisle why isn't there a large selection of sugar free cake mix yellow and chocolate. Pillsbury carries sugar free chocolate and yellow cake mix brownie mix and bread mix along with chocolate and vanilla frosting you need to start carrying that there are more people who are sugar intolerant then there are people who are gluten intolerant please make space for those above items thank you read more

Safeway in American Canyon makes no excuse for having only two out of ten registers open during the dinner time hours. There were literally 30 people in each line, and the wait was uPwards of 30-40 minutes. We were silly for remaining in line, but it's the holidays and everyone gets along, so we just conversated. Take some strain off the economy Safeway and hire a couple cashiers! I mean, your prices have slowly been increasing, and the number of clerks have dwindled, you CAN afford it. It was funny to see and hear people leave saying they were headed to WalMart or Food 4 Less. Right now I give you a YOU SUCK Safeway!!! read more

This place is ridiculous. I walked in here last night, saw a line going literally all the way to the back of the store, and walked out. A couple of other customers were doing the same thing. In the time it would have taken me to get through that line I went a little further down the street to Walmart and saved a bunch of money. The store is clean, and the people that work there are pretty friendly. The problem with the store is that they are severely understaffed. Usually there is only one checkstand open in the evening, and there's always someone at the front of the line buying about 100 items with food stamps. I have literally stood in line for 15 minutes without a single transaction taking place in the store. I guess the management doesn't realize that they are LOSING money by not having more checkstands open. If they really can't afford to pay another checker 9/hr or whatever, they should really just go out of business. Safeway doesn't have the best prices, and the fact that this particular store seems to care so little about their customers means that I won't be shopping here any more. read more

I don't usually get excited about a grocery store. I mean - seen one, you seen 'em all, right?! Well, then you haven't experienced the American Canyon Safeway, my friends. Let's talk sushi. I freakin' love it. I could eat it every day - twice a day, and then again for dessert. The Safeway sushi is better than the (only) sushi place in town, which just so happens to be across the street from this Safeway. Not only that, the presentation is beautiful and the "sushi man" who makes it is super friendly. He always offers to make me what ever I like, in case there is nothing in the case that tempts me. But, I always find something to tempt me. Then, there is the deli. I have never had a deli sandwich with such a massive mount o' meat. And they will get crazy with the other fixin's if you ask. The staff is always friendly, although they may not be the quickest sandwich makers in the west - but hey, they just put 4 lbs of turkey on your bread, so chillax! Lastly, there is Frank. Have you seen this guy? The bagger with the HUGE chops??? That guy never fails to ask me if I need help and how work is going (even though I'm pretty sure he has no idea who I am.) He will even hunt me down in the store to ask me, sometimes twice in one visit. Sure, this may sound a little stalker-ish, but I just like to think he is providing good customer service. My visit to the deli was at 8:30am today. I waited near 30 minutes for one 6 inch sandwich to be made. ONE employee that was making a sandwich for another customer continuously called Maria and Christina for assistance as there were 5 other people behind me. Neither one of them assisted until around 8:50am. I have worked for Safeway deli in the past and this should have never happened. There was no team work at all. One was hiding in the back; peeping at us and the other was by the deli meats. Your employee Christina, gave me the impression that she did not want to be there. It showed in how she was dressed, how she approached me, and how she crafted my sandwich- sloppy- mind you the avocado was runny as if water had been added to it. I usually don't make complaints, but this is the second time I've come here and received this type of service and it needs to be addressed. read more

Not certain of the woman's name in the deli this morning, but obviously was not very happy about being there. For starters, she was making sandwiches for the gentlemen in front of me- he was having a hard time explaining his order, so he passed the woman his phone so she could read his order. I politely interrupted and requested that she change her gloves right away, before touching any of the items or surface, as cell phone carry more germs that public toilets do. She was quick to snap a response to me, "I'm just checking his order!!" Which as that's fine, but please be courteous and aware of what you are spreading. She doesn't know if this is someone who takes their phone into the bathroom, maybe they don't wash their hands? Who knows Part 2 - my turn to order- I ordered 4 breakfast burritos - she let out a heavy, loud sigh, and possibly an eye roll- but I couldn't tell since she was wearing glasses. I am then told "Well I only have white egg ." It was a toned in a way as to possibly get me to change my mind about ordering. I informed her that the white egg was what I wanted anyways. Then I was told "well, I'm only going to make 2 at a time." Okayyyy? I've ordered this burrito from other Safeways, and never had I had someone make it the way she does. Nothing was heated prior to going in the wrap, and she neglected to add the sauce. After she wrapped the first one, I asked if she was going to put the sauce on after it was heated? She said "well. You never said you wanted anything else on it!" Ummm the sign above even says it comes with Ranch sauce on it Once all 4 burritos were wrapped (about 15 min later) they were all 4 put into the oven on the same sheet - which is fine, but they were literally only in there for about 30 seconds. One last final thing that is a bit unsanitary - the price stickers. Please stop printing the labels out and placing them on your clothes! It was so gross to open my burrito and see the lint and hair that stuck to the sticker. Your black sweater is pretty, but I don't want it as a part of my food. I'm not trying to get this person in trouble- but this is more so to create sanitary awareness. I was polite the entire time I was there, and even kept a smile, asked how this persons day was going, etc. it didn't matter- she is obviously just very unhappy and should possibly be moved to another department (where customer interaction isn't involved). I would leave the persons name, but she wasn't wearing a name tag. Older, thin woman with glasses. I won't be ordering my breakfast from this location, but will continue purchasing my groceries here. read more

American Canyon's Safeway is a landmark of the little burg. There isn't much to AmCan, so Safeway is the highlight. Since American Canyon is a liminal space in between Napa and Vallejo, there isn't much to define it. It's convenient that there's a gas station. The service is OK, but it tends to be pricey. I've stopped by to get food for parties... and as usual, they have few cashiers. Waiting in looong lines is typical. What makes it convenient is that it's on the main drag. The Super Wal-Mart is better when it comes to groceries. Just sayin'. read more

Convenient because it is so close to my house but sucks how they always ALWAYS have only 2-3 registers open when they know they're going to be busy. For example thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, it was horrible. You would think they'd have all the registers open to help these customers get home on time to cook for their families but I guess not. Holy cow. It's a brand new Safeway, so it's nice in that sense, but seriously, don't even attempt getting a sandwich from the deli around lunch time. Recently changed to this Safeway. I like the vegetable section, it is really organized and clean. Also, this store has cleaned carts which is why I changed stores because my local Safeway was lax on this service. Anyway, I will probably not go back to this store due to the rude check out staff. Both times I have gone to shop I have gotten rude check out staff. I know times are tense but to be treated like I did the worse thing in the world by mistakenly getting in the wrong line today, 15 items, is bad customer service. The checker was very rude and only told me I was in the wrong line after she checked half my groceries and then didn't even ask or put my full cart of groceries in bags. A bagger came up to help but no one asked if I wanted bags. I apologized several times and just got the stank eye. I made a honest mistake. I was so unsettled at the time that I didn't even notice that my groceries were not being bagged. Don't know if that is the new norm for that line but I purposely left my bags in the car because I wanted them to be bagged. Both times I have shopped at this store I have left upset because of the rude cashiers I have encountered. read more

Ok. This review is more for a product than the store itself. Is there anyone else out there who believes that cheddar cheese should be WHITE than ORANGE????? Well after doing some searching and searching and searching I finally came across a store brand cheese that is 1) organic (good for those into organic foods), 2) tastes good (and I am as picky about how food tastes as my coffee), and is 3) reasonably priced (not easy in this day and age). In most Safeway stores look in the dairy section for Organics Sharp White Cheddar Cheese. An 8 ounce brick of this delicious, mildly sharp, creamy delicacy, will run you $3.99. Might seem like a lot for cheese, but coming from back east where we pride ourselves in our Vermont and New York sharp cheddars, this will pair with any wine and fruit combination you can find here in California. Part of a whole line of organic products in Safeways. Worth it people!! Now as far as the store goes, it's pretty good given the large chains. Not a "superstore" but one coming soon to AmCyn when the Super Wal-Mart opens at Napa Junction. Store includes a Starbucks (even with a full service Starbucks in the plaza), USBank branch, and has a gas station. Two things I come here for: 1) Cheap gas 2) HUGE Sandwich and "Small Soup" Combo Meal for $6.00 However, you gotta get there before 5pm to get your soup for your combo because they won't refill it for the dinner crowd. The staff on the floor and clerks are always very kind and helpful, but the management is very hard to get help from. My husband asked to speak to a manager one afternoon and waited around for 15 minutes after someone went to notify them. No one ever came out. I've attempted to contact management about mold growing in the milk fridges on a couple of occasions. I've also seen milk actively dripping into overflowing pans from gallon jugs apparently mishandled. I've attempted to buy 18 pack eggs only to find the egg shelf completely empty with broken shells and yolks scattered. (I guess they're having problems with their stocker?) Freezer doors have recently been repaired because some wouldn't close, leaving food exposed and condensation puddling along the floor. And Customer Service isn't available til 9am. Currently have been standing in the ONLY line open- lane 3- for 20 mins and we haven't moved once. I don't understand why management allowed this to happen? All stocking needs to stop, and they need ALL hands on deck it's a Friday night and there's no reason for them to only have one person on the checkstand. Conveniently located off of the highway. Cheap gas compared to other places. Fresh produce. I only ever encountered the staff at the register... And I didn't love the prepackaged sandwiches (that took forever to find!!!) in front by the door (left if you're looking in). Why the heck aren't they in the deli area?? Thanks for making me walk through the entire store 3 times looking for these instead of going down the road to 7-11. I needed a couple sandwiches to take on the plane to NY. Yup it is the best Safeway with great customer service. How? Looked for one, and finally after thirty minutes I had one associate assisting me. I asked that guy what are in those boxes on the top shelf and all he gave me in return was "I don't know." Also, he did not even bother to grab his safety gear and bring one down to check if it's the item I wanted to purchase that needed to be restocked. So he rushed leaving me behind. This review is only for the deli at Safeway. Food was good, but the service is what i came to complain about. Both times, service was slow and RUDE, especially by CRAIG. He does not know how to to talk to customers. He brushes customers off in a rude demeanor and was impolite when I requested to have my bread toasted- which he didn't! While driving to my friend's wedding at a winery last weekend, I passed by a gas station connected to a Safeway that had cheaper gas than anything I had seen in the Bay Area. (I realize that American Canyon probably isn't part of the Bay Area, but the prices seemed low considering the location right along a highway.) I needed gas, but I also need to be fewer than fifteen minutes late, so I decided to hit the place up on the way back. A few hours later, I was beginning to think I had already passed the Safeway when it appeared. Getting into the actual lot was annoying (you have to turn onto a side street and then into a strip-mall parking lot), as were the gas pumps' ridiculous flagstone facades--further proof that most Americans have no taste--but the price was right. I was actually worried that I wouldn't swipe my Safeway and payment cards in the correct order, but it wasn't difficult, and I got to see my name on the little credit-card screen. I saved three cents per gallon that day, and although there was a sign that made that clear, I hadn't seen it yet, so it was kind of like waiting for a slot machine's wheels to stop turning as I stood in the cold wind. So I didn't go into the store itself, but the gas station is great. Minus the flagstone, it's a five-star operation. read more

This place doesn't deserve even one Star. I have been using this service for a while and only because with 3 kids I have to sometimes. They do not care about their customers. They are always late and missing items but the last two times they were actually over 2 hours late! They always have some excuse and are always rude. If you try to get a hold of corporate or customer service you can write and call all day, send e mail after e mail and NEVER get a response. I guess my only option is too quit using them. They waste my time and money and make my life hard when they don't bring my milk and diapers when they agree too. So lame. It's insane. I don't know how they are still able to be in business. They are taking advantage of disabled people, the elderly and Mothers like me who don't have a car right now! So basically they make a promise to myself and mostly my kids and then don't deliver... literally. My order today was supposed to be here between 8am-9am.... it is now 10:58....still nothing. Not happy. Update: it's now 1:30 and I was told my food is there waiting to be picked up! No one can tell me why or anything at all really. They don't care one bit. No one has called me even! Trying to call them to rectify the situation took more than 45 minutes on hold and searching for phone numbers. I never received the food that I paid for and they did not rectify the situation. I grew up with Safeway all my life. I still live not too far from them now. The one thing that they never had was gas. So seeing these outposts of Safeway fuel always trips me out. Since the friend's car needed replenishing, we noticed the prices are actually pretty good. Now how good their gas is Im not sure since it wasn't my own car. Gas is mostly the same until each company puts its own additives to the mix. The traffic and parking common sense through this station however is a clusterfuck. read more

Safeway is Safeway, a grocery store that meets expectations. Service? Speed? Friendly Staff? Well, I haven't had a positive experience in either of these categories. Service, not expecting much, but maybe next time I won't have to go shopping in the parking lot for a cart before I can start shopping in the store. Speed. Okay, it still may be Vallejo (ok, American Canyon), but I think the area still has a quality workforce that can add and work a register. Maybe Safeway should try looking sometime for more than just 2 cashiers. Friendly Staff. Maybe because they're under-staffed and overworked, but is a smile out of the question? Go there for stuff you need, but be ready to wait in line no matter what time of day. The greatest thing about Safeway is when you spend $50 in groceries, you get a $.20 per gallon discount at the gas station. read more

As far as prices go...I could probably go to Walmart or Food 4 Less, buy the exact same items, and spend maybe 30% less. I have to give props to the Deli counter. I've never had an issue with their service although i usually go when it isn't crowded. Anyway, the crew there have been generous with letting me try so many samples and the food is delicious to me. As far as the whole store, it is clean and neat. Probably one of the nicer Safeways. I do my weekly shopping at this store. They have fresh vegetables and fruits. I feel like everyone is pretty helpful. I enjoy that they have the option of pre cut ham from the bone. One can always count on Safeway for.... FLOWERS! yes... Chris and I had to go to his grandmother's birthday party...and we didn't want to go gift-less... and whala, Safeway being around the corner, and off we went. They had a variety of fresh and colorful kinds of flowers to choose from, but we decided to stick with an orchid. it came in a pot with a high laminate clear cover protecting the stem of the orchid. oh. and there's also a handle so we don't have to carry it from the pot. Perfect granmda present, aint it? and it was really affordable too. I just dont suggest getting party cakes here. they're just intensely sweet and full of frosting. they're cheap but you've gotta put a little more effort for a birthday cake, right? Go to a damn bakeshop for a REAL quality cake. I also suggest being a Safeway club member. The savings you get do add up and with the economy being so bad, take the annoying offer by the cashier and get a safeway club card. Oh, this location has a gas station! Like all other grocery stores I can't imagine giving this one more than 3 stars. You go in, find what you need and go on your merry way. If they don't have your item, you just go elsewhere. The one drawback (and this goes for ALL grocery stores) is the lack of staff during the evening hours. No fault of the employees who have to deal with not-so-pleasant customers that had to wait for what seemed like an eternity to pay for their groceries. It's the higher ups, folks. They save money on labor while making those that are working those nights seriously work their asses off. How do I know? I used to work in the industry. The plus side is this particular Safeway does have it's own gas station which is actually cheaper than Costco. Go figure.. read more

Great pitstop on the way to the wine country. It's located in a plaza with a gas station, lot of quick eats and a Starbucks. Yeah, tell me why you need a Starbucks both inside and outside of Safeway? Um, guess we just love our corporate coffee place too much! Anyways, I came by here to pick up a cake. The people at the bakery are ultra nice and suggested a tres leche cake with white frosting and crushed almonds. Awesome combo! Prices are decent too! 1/4 sheet of tres leche cost me 21.99. It fed about 20 people. Plus, this location has a pharmacy inside - very convenient. And the workers there are extremely nice and friendly. Never had any problems with them. read more
