This review is solely based on the Safeway Bakery department. I LOVE Safeway's fresh bagels that they make in the bakery. I've gotten them for years when I lived in Everett and in another city where I work. The Bothell Safeway bagels are absolute trash. They are overcooked and not soft. The jalapeño cheddar ones specifically are not good. They always look burnt and not a lot of jalapeños like at other Safeways. I've tried to get other types of bagels there instead and it's the same over cooked bagel. The donuts are also lacking, which I didn't realize could happen-I thought a donut is a donut especially from safeway. Nope. We now get our donuts elsewhere and I get bagels from Haggen in Woodinville or at the Safeway location near my work. Sad because this is what's close to me. read more

Such a beautiful store, I just can't understand why Safeway doesn't have good employees to go with it. The deli, produce and checkout employees suck, there is just no other way to put it. When it comes to Safeway, we're talking pretty generic groceries. So, I'm typically rating and reviewing cleanliness and service. I haven't had any issues with cleanliness. Haven't even come across any spills sitting around. Nothing has stood out, and that's a pretty good place to be. As far as service goes, I've had some of the most pleasant interactions, especially lately. The Starbucks girls were so sweet and helpful and ran to the back to get me a cup. The hot food center offered me sauce with my chicken strips, which I had never been offered before from the several other locations I had been to, and the cashiers are always very friendly. read more

You should always have at least one cashier available instead of only self check. I had about 7-8 bags of groceries and had to use the self check. I had hurt my back earlier in the week and it was very difficult to do this many groceries through self check. There were also some stock issues and some gnarly looking produce that shouldn't have even been out for sale. read more

I stopped by their in store Asian cuisine to check out their selection. The entrees looked fresh and recently prepared. Ordered the chow menu and the special combo with general tsos and Kung pao chk. The entrees were good but they seemed to have used dark meat which I personally don't prefer. The sauce was good and the egg rolls were oily. My problems started way later when I suffered cramping and bloating possibly from the MSG. As I write this review I am still feeling like a helium balloon Serves me right to not go to a good Chinese joint. This is what you get when u put convenience ahead of comfort. Had a full cart of groceries and she raised her voice at me thinking I'm supplying to a minor and rummaged through all my groceries to make sure I wasn't "hiding anything else". Downtown Bothell location has always been my preferred location for convenience and a quieter atmosphere. The size of the store is great. They have completely remodeled their walls, decor and flooring. Everything looks more clean and modernized. Things are still easy to find and shelves are always well stocked. read more

This is one of the nicest Safeway Stores that I have been in. Clean, wide aisles, friendly staff, and well stocked with a big variety of food choices. I hope that the Albertson/Safeway acquisition by Kroger Corp is held to be an anti-trust violation by eliminating competition. QFC is not as good after Kroger bought them. We need local grocery stores like Safeway. It doesn't make sense to drive all the way to Fred Meyer or Target or Wallmart to get groceries when there are perfectly good stores right in our own community. I'll be honest, I stop here occasionally for convenience but it isn't Safeway isn't my main grocery store and this location has not changed that. The staff are courteous and the store layout is pretty good. Everything is easy to find and the produce department is really well lit (I realize that's a weird compliment - but it drives me CRAZY when I can't see my produce properly and when I get home they look sad!) The food from the teriyaki counter is generally fresh and doesn't look like its been sitting under the heat lamps for 2 days - plus my kids love it so its an easy "take out" meal. Check out is pretty easy especially with ample self-checkout stations and staff to assist. We'll probably continue to stop here when convenience necessitates it. read more

Miss the old place. But... EDIT up to 5 stars. Staff issues seem to be worked out. The surprising thing is that Safeway has more of the healthy food we used to go to QFC to buy. Must be a Kroger thing... I don't know but we drive right past QFC now, whatever caused the Bothell QFC decline. Now the staff at Safeway are really nice - things have flipped. And the shelves, meat and dairy cases always seem to have the food we want. Safeway is carrying more organic vegetables now. I never thought I'd see that. Ask for help to unlock and buy some vodka a very young girl came out (hopefully older than 21) and asked me what's your poison? you know alcohol's poison? Hey, we all know alcohol is not good for you, but I can buy it anywhere other than Safeway and the sales people know how to sell it and introduce me to other varieties. I don't need to be insulted by the staff. I asked for her manager to come out, and he was obviously barely out of high school. At this point, I'm looking for some advice on superior alcohols like whiskey, rum, and vodka etc. without somebody much younger than me looking down there nose at me. This place is pretty decent as far as grocery stores go. This grocery store seems to be fairly understaffed but it seems to be a universal problem these days. You can tell the most of the employees are hard workers. The last few times I've been in to buy flowers the floral department is always empty. But like I said above they are understaffed. I also asked one of the supervisors I believe Maureen about the bank in store and she wasn't really able to give me any information, and the information she gave me was incorrect so I wasn't able to get what I needed. And last the bathrooms tend to be sticky and not clean and the toilet seat covers don't fit the toilets. But compared to other Safeway's it's alright. read more

We are new to the area and looking for a new grocery store. Shopped at 2-3 mediocre Safeways until we found this location. This is it. Layout is the same, easy to find items, well stocked, great prices, clean store, well-lit trash-free parking lot with ample parking in wide spaces. This will be our regular store for weekly shopping. Safeway has gone downhill in general. But the Bothell Safeway takes the cake. Most of the time, they don't honor their so-called "free" items & will argue over these, even if it's a dollar or less. Half of the time they don't even actually have the so-called free item. Some of the cashier's are extremely rude, unprofessional & arrogant. I also wonder about their IQ levels. My fav grocery store in the area. Also nice, clean and easy to get into. Great selection in expected places so I don't have to be in a maze. Prices are great I think. I still do some shopping at Target or Central Market but this is my main place. Starbucks right in side so I can grab a drink while I shop. Everyone is super nice there as well and the gas is usually really cheap. I also love that they carry Bottled Real Sugar Coke and Dr Pepper. It just taste better and is better for you than diet or high-fructose. I hope they will continue this and even offer more Real Sugar options for all drinks. Hope this helps ;) read more

I love coming to this Safeway even though it's a bit out of the way because all the cashiers and produce employees always say hello to me and ask me how I've been doing. I usually go there after working out at the local gym and two cashiers in particular always ask how my workout went and even when I haven't gone to the gym they always ask about it. They make it a personal place to shop at and make it really comfortable. Keep doing what y'all are doing because I really appreciate the warm greetings and friendly service. Only one sorta complaint is has the deli price increased on almost everything ? I use to be a avid breakfast burrito purchaser but they raise the price by 50% and took away the buyers reward for this :( read more

Each time we have gone into this safeway, there are three women (older) who are exceptionally rude (cashiers/courtesy clerks). They are very short with people and hate answering any questions. This is even pre-covid! The bakery staff who answer the phone calls that come in don't know how to even find a cake or answer questions. Signs at both entrances state carts are sanitized. I watched as a staff member brought in a long line of carts and placed them in the area designated "Sanitized Carts." When asking why the sign said something untrue, I was told that people sanitize their own. In speaking with someone supposedly in management, I was told it would be brought to the attention of the manager. All signs were still in place when I left. The signs have been in place for several months, beginning when staff were positioned at each entrance actually sanitizing carts for customers. The staff have long been absent from either entrance and no one has been been sanitizing carts. I can sanitize my own cart, but find it dangerous, particularly for at-risk customers to state the carts are already sanitized. I was given the impression this was not a high priority at all. Also observed on this trip were pharmacy personnel eating and drinking at the window behind the counter, behavior that is unacceptable in handling of medications. These things coupled with a poor selection of items (no small canned pineapple, plain 4% yogurt, dark rye bread) are causing my departure. It seems they are never out of stock on Safeway Select or O Organics branded items, as if to force you to buy them instead of your preferred brand. I have only recently shopped a couple of times at Central Market in Mill Creek. They still have staff sanitizing carts and handing them out to customers. They have sanitizer available throughout the store and encourage social distancing. The products are of a much higher quality and the selection is wide and varied. The service is always outstanding. Yes, it's more expensive, but as the sage adage goes, you get what you pay for. Safeway? Not so safe. I'm outta here. read more

Used to be my main Safeway but it just does not work with my schedule anymore. I prefer to shop early morning so last Saturday I was there about 7:45am and the issue was the restocking of the store makes it nearly impossible to shop. I fully realize that it needs to be restocked but there were so many boxes that most of the freezer doors could not be opened without moving cases of product. One produce island was completely surrounded by crates and was inaccessible. The bread shelves were no better. The liquor aisle however was clear so I could load up to get me through the day. I will be going to a different store where everything can be done in one easy stop. read more

This location has the biggest and best produce department in town. Come here for the fruits and veggies you would never find at an average local grocery store--it even beats Yakima Fruit Market for selection. The aisle of non alcoholic beverages is phenomenal! The pharmacy staff went above and beyond trying to locate some specific medical supplies I need. I am truly grateful. I've always found the staff to be helpful and courteous. Maybe you have run into an employee who needs additional training, but don't begrudge the entire staff based on one personal encounter. Remember these are essential employees who barely make minimum wage and are most likely not eligible for vaccination. Be kind! read more

I absolutely love this Safeway! I lived here before it was put in and I'm not sure how my family survived without it!! The staff is amazing, I come here at all times during the day, early mornings, evenings and late at night, and I'm so glad it is 24 hours!! The staff recognizes the regulars and does whatever they can to help every customer out with their shopping experience. If I've ever not been able to find something, asking the staff here isn't an anxiety ridden ordeal, and they help out immediately. Safeway in Bothell gets a new location and a mega-upgrade into this century. The circa 1940's Safeway of downtown is soon to be only a memory. The only downside to that, is anyone who needed that store for it's location is SOL for grocery needs. (Alternatives aren't *that* far away, but the clientele here seemed to be heavily elderly and low-income and pedestrians who lived in the immediate area) *side note: someone wrote "RIP ghetto Safeway" on the old building. An appropriate sentiment. It offered little, but it will be sad to see it go. This location seems odd. It's in between Canyon Park and downtown Bothell, near Country Village. They have dealt with entrance/approaching traffic issues much better than you generally see when a new store pops up somewhere, which is refreshing. Gas station, fully-equipped upgraded store, in-house credit union and the parking lot and attached strip-mall is beginning to attract new businesses and fill up to provide a myriad of options here. Either I missed any spectacular grand opening sales, or they just didn't do any. Since I "gave up custody" of my local to me Safeway and have only visitation rights, It's nice to have the option when I'm on this side of town or shopping with the Madre'. read more

If I could give 6 stars, this has got to be the best one. It's all big here: Starbucks seating, real long benches. And even bigger cafe seating area. Also, big men's washroom, own stall for #2, plus urinal. Paper toilet seats a nice touch as well. Furthermore, a big selection of Seahawks that would make some kiosks proud. A Tale of Two Wingbars. I live just over a mile away, but I often travel an additional 6 to the Safeway in Kenmore... And I'll tell you why. A few months ago, I noticed the wingbar there in the Kenmore location. No way. Wings? Finger food manna from Safeway Heaven? Indeed. They were large, juicy, delectable, and cost much less than restaurant wings. I must say, its a quick fix for the munchies or whatever.... When the Safeway gods blessed this location with one, I can tell you, I was more than a little ecstatic. Alas, my hopes and dreams of this Safeway being my go to place once more have been dashed on the rocks of sloppy management and lackadaisical deli workers. 9 times out of 10, when I walk in, slavering for some wings, I am confronted with the horror that is the wingbar. The poor, desiccated bone bits stuck to the bottom of the overheated pans. Eating them is reminiscent of the turkey scene in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Crunch, crackle, critch. Unlike Kenmore, this bar has six varieties of wings in various states of mummification and over spice laden clumps. The remaining two pans seem always filled with their signature boneless chicken lumps, an altogether... chewy... experience. Not toffee or caramel chewy, but the kind of chewy that I imagine really old calamari is chewy. That would be squid for those of you not up on seafood lingo. "Perhaps you should take your concerns to the manager or the deli clerk" you might be saying. Nay. Not the deli clerk. Never. As I have overheard the long winded excuses for why he couldn't be bothered with 'those wings' at the moment one of the floor supervisors asked him to consider the crispity crackles. Nevertheless, I have entreated with the manager on this matter, and he was able to look appropriately concerned and offer a hope of recompense to my pleas... Yet, alas once more, upon deaf ears it fell, and the wingbar continues to suffer mightily from the apathetic ministrations of those that oversee its function.... So, when the urge for quick wings hit, I brave the lingering Seattle traffic and head to the smaller, much busier store that always seems to have what I am looking for.... TL/DR: This location's wingbar sucks and no one seems to care. read more

Initially, I wrote a rave review on this bakery last year, but almost overnight it changed, and at this point I will never return and it's on my way to and from work! There are hardly any cakes available in their refrigerated case, and when there are, they've expired and cannot be purchased. It's a challenge hiring good employees any more and I get that, no one wants to work but they want the money, and on a silver platter no less! But I can head down to the Juanita store, which is out of my way, and get exactly what I want & things I didn't expect! Thank God! read more

This is my go to grocery store. Within a 5 mile radius of my home, there are so many different options to choose from for groceries including another Safeway. I've been to pretty much all the other places, but I would say this location is the newest and cleanest. The thing that I like the most is the staff here. They are super ready to help and seem to always be right there when I'm scratching my head looking for something. They aren't annoying about it though. I actually really enjoyed all of my interactions with their staff. Particularly, a super friendly lady in the bakery named Kheim, and we had a fun conversation while picking out a cake. She made everything sound so good that I ended up leaving with two. I'd say if you're looking for a good solid place for groceries then definitely give this place a try. One of the better Safeway's as far as being organized goes! I'm always surprised with things they carry, often times I don't need to go to another grocery store. The only thing I would recommend is having more people at the checkout it takes quite a while sometimes, and the self check out is a little ran down and takes its sweet time. read more
