I've given this Safeway so many chances with their produce department time and time again and it never seems to improve. The quality of their produce is so poorly managed. I find expired produce every time I go, moldy fruit and produce that should never be sold to consumers in the condition it's in, yet it's left out on the floor to be sold. Well stocked, great desert bakery, clean inside, they have a nice Starbucks and food produce looked fresh. The biggest down falls about this Safeway is that a lot of homeless are around and it makes shopping uncomfortable. All the alcohol is locked up. The hot foods looked limited and dried out. I just got back from Safeway and I want to give a shot out to Ricardo in produce!!! I was looking for organic honeydew and he didn't see it on the floor so he JOGGED to the back to check and they didn't have it, I felt bad but I asked about organic potatoes and he JOGGED back and came bag with a bag of organic potatoes. I am absolutely disgusted with safeway meat. First of all I am bald and live alone. you will see where i am going. I bought 3 pounds of 80 / 20 ground beef (not cheap).Came home and browned it and once done cut up some fresh veggies. Sat down first fork full was a clump of brown meat with wrapped in hair - as it dangled off my fork with other clumps of browned hamburger twisted in hair. It was not my hair and I live alone. I went to Safeway in Brentwood today, arriving at just after 5 PM. I wanted to order the Friday 8 piece chicken meal. After being ignored while the clerk walked and up and down the Counter, took a phone call and continued doing other things. I was addressed when I asked if anyone worked there. Another clerk was wiping the counter down by the hot food. She too paid no attention to me. There were about 5 pieces of old chicken in the tray. No "hi, how are you" no "hi", NOTHING!! If I am going to hand you my money then at least be nice! As I was leaving, the cashier starts giggling and looking at his co-worker. I stopped going to this store because their food is notorious for having weevils, you have to check the date on everything you buy, when the meat gets old they slather some kind of red slime on it and sale items almost always ring up for full price. With all of the new stores in Brentwood that actually care about their customers it baffles me as to how this place is still open. read more

This is the deli rating. On Balfour Rd Safeway. I used to buy a lot of thin sliced cheese here. They hired a lady about a year ago. You can not get thin sliced cheese here! She refuses! Yuck. 1/2 pound Boar's head Swiss cheese was 4 slices. When I specifically asked for it thin sliced at the counter, I heard her say, "Thin sliced! No! I need that machine!" Worst Tiramasu ever!!! They actually put icing on it to place stawberries. Looked nice but tasted horrible. Absolutely disgusting!!! I was checking out today and the cashier SAM was extremely rude to his bagger a young blonde gal. She made a suggestion to him when he couldn't get the chicken to scan. He told her "I know what to do." Then he took her advice and it worked. He apologized to her. Then I asked if he had enough cash so I could get $200 cash back. He said he could. The gal then also added that customer service could get the cash if needed. SAM again told her not to make comments and that it was the second time he had to tell her. IMO it was total harassment and mistreatment of an employee. I told her she needed to make a complaint about SAM. She probably won't for fear of retaliation. She was so sweet and tried to be helpful. While he was rude, condescending and pretty much humiliated her in front of the customers. Something should be done about that SAM. read more

I Love food from the hot case. This time though all the food looked like no one had cycled it all day. I asked the guy if there was anything fresh and he looked in the hot-case and said "it doesn't look like it." While I appreciate the honesty, I would like to imagine they have protocols to keep fresh food in the hot case, rather than a dull response from someone who feels powerless to do anything about it. If they can't even keep the cases stocked proper, I shudder to think what hygiene policies are being violated. read more

I'm here to rave about an employee (I sent this to Safeway corporate also). My original intention was to complain about one of the rude managers, but instead I'm here to explain what an incredible manager they do have; her name is Shelly. I spend a lot of money at Safeway and we are avid, long-time Safeway shoppers. I see Shelly working every time I'm there and she's consistently personable, hard-working, incredibly patient and I'm rarely impressed by multi-taking skills and Shelly really impresses me, especially today. For context, this particular store is older, smaller and in a challenging location (deals with a lot of high schoolers, theft, homeless, etc.) Safeway should definitely take that into account when recognizing their employees hard-work and dedication- a rarity these days. Aside from the rude manager who should wear a hat that says "I hate you and my job" this store has some pretty impressive employees. I can't help but think that Shelly, as a manager/leader, may have an influence on that. I truly hope this gets into the right hands and Shelly is recognized for really holding it down in such a professional, calm and organized manner. She's precious! read more

This location has gone severely downhill, first annoyance is there are no hand baskets in the entire store, if you want to just pick up bread, milk, and eggs, you either have to carry them by hand or have to wheel around a large shopping cart as there are no midsize carts either. Good luck trying to find a small bag to put your fruit and vegetables in, it seems that every stand has the bag dispenser blocked up with other products in front of it or empty, you have to walk across the entire produce section just to find a dispenser of bags. Trust me when you do find them grab half the roll as you won't find any anywhere else . Self check out is hit and miss. I fully understand you can't buy alcohol, but for heaven sake, I could not buy potatoes today as it was a "restricted" item, so I had to remove all of my shopping and go to a regular checkout. Only go here if you are desperate, failing that go to the one on Balfour. read more

Probably one of the worst Safeways I have been to. Stockers block the main walk ways with carts. This should be a safety issue. The seafood department looks like something you would find at low tide at the ocean. The poke they were selling could pass for jerky. The oysters looked like a dried shell that's tossed on the beach and they were open meaning dead. I wouldn't be surprised if people didn't get sick from it. read more

Be careful buying the fried chicken from the deli I bought some on Monday memorial day I got some thighs and legs came home and had them ate a piece of thigh and I was sick for the next three days. Safeway Drive Up & Go has been a lifesaver for me during Covid19. I don't know if they offered it before the pandemic but I hope they continue it. It makes shopping so easy and saves me time. Simply use the Safeway delivery and pick up app, choose a location and a time slot. When you arrive park in one of the designated spots and call. They bring your groceries out to your car. They are so nice and are always wearing a mask properly. Unfortunately they are not able to take tips. It's always been super quick and easy, no more than 5 minute wait. read more

I will NEVER step foot in this safeway again Every time I step in there I kick myself realizing that after I have finally got my shopping done the lines are ridiculous I mean the Tuesday before thanksgiving and 2 checkers. Just shut this location down already. I counted 22 people in 2 lines. I mean are you kidding me. I asked the checker on lane 5 to call for additional checkers and she rolled her eyes at me. Then 10 min later I asked her is she would be kind enough to call a manager. She finally did and called for " assistance " of the manager upstairs. I had 200 worth of groceries ( oh and a frozen turkey ) because the fresh turkeys were frozen And NOT one package of bread cubes to be found. That being said and having Been in this area for 25 years thank you Sean for stepping up and calling the next customer over. I was at the grocery store earlier today. I happened to get Cashier Cory, I waited in line as did a lot of other people as it was busy. There was lady in front of me and a young boy happened to walk by. Mind you I had just seen him (Josh) outside bringing in carts. Cory asked him if he wanted to bag, Josh replied by saying it right now. This Cory boy started mouthing off to this boy--so what, you not going to bag today, you just goi g to stand around being lazy all day. He went on and on about how he had been bagging groceries all day. (Is that not part of his duties as a cashier?) he kept badgering until Josh came and began bagging. Not even a "thank you". When it came to me, I asked him to help me with the Apple Pay app, his response to me was --just use the chip on your card. So, this cashier was not only not willing to help he was rude in his response. "Don't you see the long lines and I have to bag because people are lazy here". I told him he was rude and unprofessional. I asked for a supervisor or manager. The next cashier assisted me in getting a manager. After I walked away, I heard (Cory) snicker something to the next customer about me. In my profession, one never embarrassed or degrades a coworker in front of customers especially if your are not a supervisor. I spoke to the manager, but I really don't think he took my complaint seriously. Poor etiquette in part of Cary and Safeway if they allow this to happen. read more

I ordered a mermaid cake for my daughters birthday from the location on Second St, what I received was not even close to the cake in the stock photo which is what I expected. I will absolutely never ever return to this bakery!! Update: Today I went in and spoke with the manager who was very friendly, gave me a full refund and even offered to give me a correct cake at no charge. Go to raleys for a cake. They taste the same and have better customer service. Couldn't even order a cake on a weekday at 3:30 because no one was at the bakery. Deli paged the bakery and still no one came. Tried to be understanding and called at 8:30 the next morning to place a order.
