a rude deli staff really sours this place for me. been coming here for years and never had a problem until maybe 6 months to a year ago. everyone in the deli used to be "professional" for lack of a better word. they were attentive, kind, respectful, the most basic things you need to have as a customer-facing worker. obviously people have bad days, i understand that, but on pretty much every occasion within the past 6 months ive had a bad experience at the deli. from rude employees to long wait times as well as just being outright ignored, it's just gone downhill. i've also noticed that a certain employee consistently picks the smallest pieces in the warming trays whenever i come by, don't really know why, i haven't done anything but be kind and patient to them. anyways, it makes me sad because the rest of the store is nice. always pretty clean with a nice staff but as soon as i realize i need to pick up meat i just wish i didn't have to interact with any of the deli workers. hope they can figure it out, there's just no reason to be rude because you don't like your job. read more

First time here in this location in Brentwood. I'm very impressed! Much busier than the location in Stockton but the store is clean and neat. Aisles are packed with quality food and merchandise's. I came in for a Cookie Monster donut. Very satisfying. read more

This is definitely the nicer and more spacious of the two Safeways in Brentwood. Aisles are nice and wide and they always seem to have enough registers open. It's a cleaner space and much more well stocked. It's a little bit further for me to drive to, but worth the extra few minutes for an overall more pleasant shopping experience. Nice clean restrooms are located at the front near Starbucks, which is always a nice touch: Their floral and produce departments are always pretty and bright. At the other location, on 2nd, I sometimes leave without finding things on my list. This is a way more pleasant experience with more variety of items, more parking and friendlier staff. I got a thick skin but this dude carlos l, the checker, working Wednesday the 9th of July couldn't be much riders or complain mode about their "staffing " issues ... I don't work there, so don't complain to me!! Also don't rush my elderly mother who has to move slow!! We had over a 400 days oar order and Carlos was a total A hole the whole way through and when asked why he's being so rude he says "because I'm the only One working now hurry!!!"... yah he got it back from me and if he wants to disrespect my mother again we can argue about it outside , that's how rude this dude was... So these clown ass people ruined my daughter's 10th birthday cupcake cake. Kerri the one that took the order got it all wrong. Then when I got there to pick it up it wasn't a cupcake cake at all. It was individual cupcakes with the letters of her name on the cupcakes. I asked them to fix it because this wasn't what she wanted. When they "fixed" it let's just say it should have all went in the trash! Not only did I have to wait 15 min for them to "fix" it. Once I brought a dessert from here for a friends birthday party and they kept on ranting and raving at how good it is, one person asked if it was from a very expensive bakery in their local area. This store is normally a pleasant place to shop. Today was different. At the self checkout, which I have done successfully hundreds of times, the payment process was a bit off. I tried multiple times and finally had to press the help button. This activated a blinking light at the register. There was no response so I looked straight across the section and there was the "customer service" clerk just looking at me with a smirky smile. I waved for her and as she approached she snidely stated that I was at fault and not her. I am of the belief that one should never start an engagement with a customer with that attitude. I will never go to this Safeway again!! My son's 18th birthday is tomorrow. I came here to get a balloon bouquet for him for the morning. I can't get them too early in the day because by tomorrow, they will all be flat! No where is there any sign or indication that the floral department has hours different from the store hours. Not even on their app( So I ask if someone can help me, to which I'm immediately told "oh, floral department is closed; they close at 7:00pm"... first of all SINCE WHEN??? I've gotten balloons from the Safeway floral department much later than this and I've never never been told "oh they're closed"... btw, I walked in at 7:10. The girl who tried to help me was very nice and tried to get her manager to come help me when I explained to her my predicament; however, apparently the manager was on a break and couldn't be bothered, literally told me "come back during their open hours".. ! I will never shop here again!! What a disappointment! I'll gladly pay 3x the cost to go to an actual party place where the balloons will last a little bit longer than 12 hours, but at least I'll get decent customer service. read more

This review is for the online pickup service. I have been using it for quite sometime as it is a convenient way for me to shop. But now, today was the second time when I picked up the order and got back home, I discovered many things were missing. Today $66 worth of food was missing. How does someone packing orders miss that amount of food? Probably 3-4 bags. I don't think I can continue to use this service if I have to either check everything at the store or check it when I get home and request a refund for the food that I paid for and didn't receive. And now, I have to go grocery shopping again tomorrow. read more

5 stars only to Anna at the bakery, she is the only one who knows what she's doing in the bakery department. Most of the other people at the bakery don't know how to cut bread properly or prepare other items, especially a younger woman, didn't get her name, but she has an attitude and sometimes doesn't wear gloves when she handles the bakery items. Also didn't like the response of a younger male employee in the meat department, when I was looking for particular product they used to carry before but no longer carried, he did not offer alternatives or substitute, that is not good customer service. Some of the Starbucks employees also don't have common sense, preparing other people's orders who came after you so the wait can be long at times. I don't think any of the Safeways are good in this area unfortunately so I suggest maybe trying Rayley's instead. read more

I love the SAFEWAY chain of stores, and I love the products from their brand, SIGNATURE. The Balfour store is one of the best, great employees, calm store, well organized, the products are always replenished. And the employees are always very friendly, especially in the Deli section! read more

This is a BIG thank you to one of Safeway's employees "Chevy" I'm in my 80's and had an exhausting difficult day and stopped by to pick up a few items but had to rush home as was running so late. I ended up of all things leaving my purse in the cart out in the cart parking. Rushed home to discover this. My whole life was in that purse not to mention a LOT of cash which I normally don't carry, all the credit cards, phone and more. Being sure it would be gone I rushed back to the store..of course nothing in the carts where I'd left it so rushed in to customer service and it was there. I was told Chevy had found it and brought it in...saving my day and a LOT more. This could've ended in so many bad ways. Thank You! read more

Overall Safeway has been fantastic but I bought 4 apples today from 1 pile but 1 was apparently from another pile at twice the price and so I ended up paying twice the price for all 4. Just a warning to make sure that all your apples are the one's you want. Had I known, and wanted the outrageous priced one I would have put it in a different bag. Only giving 1 star because I have to. This is the worst grocery store in Brentwood. Went in looking for laughing cow cheese, no one could tell me where it was. Avoid this place if you need to run out real quick after 9:00pm. Waited in line for 30 minutes while someone tried to figure out a coupon. The girl at the register was new and needed her manager, but her manager was missing. Finally, she shows up and instead of worrying about getting the register that has been backed up for 30 minutes and now has a line 13 people long at 10:30 at night she was more worried about helping this one customer who was at the back of the line complaining that they have to wait through this line when they only have one item. She legit pulls the customer who just got in the line aside, rings him up while the new girl at the register continues to struggle clearly needing her help. Saw about 4 people just walk out. Think her name was Erica? Either way, terrible experience. I don't blame the girl at the register, I blame her superior, who was more worried about one impatient customer over the dozen of us who had been waiting for a long while. Go to WinCo or Raley's. They have the rudest employees working there. This employee (Patricia) went out of her way to make sure I had a horrible visit here. No Problem, I will never go here again. Besides their price is not the best, I have been going to Winco. I only purchased a few items and this employee snatched my card from my hand and made approx 5 other separate rude incidents before I finished my transaction. I went into the store in a very good mood and left furious. I did go back and reported the incidents to the manager. This happened on Wednesday. Having worked retail for 40 years I try to show some understanding and I will say everyone behind the meat counter is outstanding. However, I went for an online pickup on Monday and after receiving a text saying it was ready, it wouldn't allow me to notify them upon arrival, I went inside and was told that they didn't see it and said maybe the order went to 2nd street. After showing them a screenshot that in fact it was ordered from the Balfour store, they found it. Not super friendly, but I could live with that. I went back today, again had trouble with the app, I called and they brought my order out. When I got home I noticed that a bag of refrigerated items was missing. I called, they apologized and said they would have someone bring it to the house, nice touch. Fortunately, our son came to visit, and were able to see that they left the bag out in the heat, without even ringing the bell. I guess common sense isn't that common! read more

This Safeway location has been a Brentwood staple for decades. Back in the 00's I chose to come over to this location over the one on 2nd street for its neat organization and overall upkeep. Although Safeway cannot compete with WinCo in price, I do like the fact that we have choices here in Brentwood. Christmas 2020, covid-era: I was appreciative that this store is open among the rest of the grocery stores that are closed to quickly grab a bottle of horseradish sauce for our scrumptious prime rib feast. Quick tidbit: their Safeway Select wagyu ground beef makes the best home made hamburger patty. read more

Consumer beware...the grocery delivery from the Balfour location is terrible. The last three orders from this location have included milk that expired; an entire order showing up several hours late; and the current order is missing 5 of the 9 items ordered, though I was charged for all 9. The customer service is just as bad as the delivery, when spoke with an actual person (which was difficult), I was told the full amount of order that was delivered several hours past the time needed would be refunded. Instead one item for $7 was refunded. Thank goodness there are options in town for groceries...my family and several friends will no longer be shopping at Safeway. read more

Haven't set foot in a Safeway since and don't intend to -- they lost a loyal customer due to their rude service..... I just had an unfair rude experience on March 17, at about 6:45 or 7 pm at cashier 10 --blonde young female cashier-- at Balfour Safeway. I'm in line, my turn next, her light is on, she tells me she can't take me that she's closing. I go to next line over (longer line) only to watch her take 3 more people/transactions after me while I'm left waiting still in next line. She never closed, never apologized or explained. Speak to the manager and he says he will "talk to her." Really? Thats it? No here's a coupon or credit for us being so rude-- nada! Not sure what was up with her -- she took 3 different men after me -- does she only want to do biz with men? The employees are all so nice and helpful. I always choose this location. Always has what I'm looking for and every time a good deal is on, they still manage to have some of the popular deal near the end of the ad time frame. We love this location even more. Our pharmacist is the best I come in fairly often for a special rash cream for my daughter so she has it on order always. Also we started to notice they have super cute donuts. My friends and family ask where I got them and they are surprised it's from Safeway! read more

Safeway Pharmacy Oh my God. Never have I ever had a more terrible experience. Long story short, CVS from across the street sent me to Safeway Pharmacy to receive my daughter's prescription since all local CVS pharmacies were out of my toddler's medication. There were two women working there, and the one I am focusing on is who I assume was the pharmacist. She was unfriendly, not professional and incredibly rude. I explained that CVS had called my prescription in and she barked that they didn't receive it yet and to come back in 20 minutes I'm too early. I ask when they close. As I walk away she yells asking if I have ever been there and I have not so I needed to come back and register with the other lady at the register. I then leave to go home to my other children as I'm exhausted and 8+ months pregnant. My MIL so graciously returns for me 20 minutes later and the same woman is so unprofessional and states, "Oh she sent you back for her didn't she?" My MIL thought that was bizarre. I expect to speak to the Manager of this Safeway Pharmacy and would be happy to speak to corporate as well. read more
