A chain store of a large corporation, so there's a lot here you know you can expect... Large, bright, standardized prices, for starters. Bakery, flowers, deli, lottery, pharmacy and a Starbucks inside flesh things out. Ample parking, although on one side of the parking lot it's more than a bit awkward. Pedestrians take note, it's not easy to follow the cross walks of you're on the "wrong" søde to get to the store. It's larger than it looks from the outside. A section for healthier choices, mostly not-so-healthy choices, some organic options. It takes me a bit to find things usually... It's never where I expect. Which means I need help, to ask someone. Well, in 20 years since I lived in Cranbrook, and now even I come to visit, I've never seen a staff member on the floor. Behind the counter, stocking, at the till, yes. But never just to help people... You'll have to grab someone if you have a question, and even then, they may not know. They're probably on their way to /from a break. Next to the health food store, this is usually the most expensive place in town to get groceries. Still, the produce is solid and rarely do I have to wait for a till (or, à self serve till). Almost non-existent service at the deli counter. My last and final visit to this store, there were about seven staff members who acknowledged us but not one of them offered to help us after we stood at the sandwich counter for over five minutes. I don't like being ignored. No sandwich for me. On a different occasion, I was ordering a sandwich only to be scolded by another staff member (not the person making the sandwich) "now thats going to be an extra charge, you know". No problem, I'll pay the extra dollar or two for roasted peppers. Didn't need the pissy attitude from her tho. Then i asked for dijon/deli mustard and was told by the same pissy staff member, no. No, they didn't have it. Come on, your a fucking grocery store and you DO have it! I guess they were too lazy to go to aisle 7 and grab a bottle. Hell, I could have grabbed it for them. Bummer! I had a bad feeling that the sandwich wouldn't taste good cuz it was being made with a poor attitude so I walked out and left in the middle of them making the sandwich. read more

First time using the "drive up and go" service was anything other than a success. The app required that you pick a specific time on the hour to pick up your order so making an order and picking it up on the same day are virtually impossible. I only realized this after I finally got all my items picked out and added to my cart, so I caved and placed the order for a 10 am pick up. Now, I had an appointment prior to this time so I figured it would time out well. As luck would have it, I got there early at about 9:30. No biggie right? I pulled into one of the pick up spots (note that all of them were empty at that time) and called to let the store know I was here and knew I was early. The person on the other end gruffly told me that my order wasn't ready and that I'd be alerted when it was my turn. I hung up and chose to wait in the parking space, I was early after all, so I figured a little wait wasn't outlandish. During my wait only one other car came to the "park and go" area for their order. After about 15 minutes I get an email that my order is ready and that I should call the store to let them know I'm there. So again, I call the store and tell them I'm there for my order. The person on the other end is this time very irritated with me and says he'll need to call me back with no explanation as to why or when. He hangs up and I continue to wait. After about another 10 minutes no one calls, but a man comes out carrying one bag of groceries. He hands them to me and complains about how busy they've been with carry out orders. Note: Only one car has been here for my whole wait; at this point 30 minutes in length. Okay, I decide to skate by that, maybe he's stressing, that's understandable right? So I ask him where the rest of my order is and he sighs and grumbles some more as he says he'll go back in to check on it. The minimum amount for a carry out order is around $35, the bag he had brought out contained 1 onion, a small box of cereal, and a box of tea. How was it even assumed that that could be a complete order? At this point I'm getting irritated. I wait another 15 minutes for the second part of my order to be brought out, they almost had everything now! I send him back in for the rest of the items they had forgotten. Third time is the charm and I finally have all my items! Total wait time was one hour with only one other vehicle there for an order pick up. Customer service experience was awful and had I not checked my bags I would have come home with only a fraction of the groceries I had purchased. In the time it took me to go through all that trouble I could have done my grocery shopping twice over and been home for a good 20 minutes. I will not be using this service again. Bottom line: If you are looking for a quick and convenient way to get your groceries, don't use the Drive up and Go service at Safeway. read more
