I recently stopped in to grab a few simple groceries and decided to go through a cashier instead of using self-checkout, thinking it would be a more pleasant experience. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. The cashier came across as rude and disengaged, which immediately made the interaction uncomfortable. On top of that, there didn't seem to be much care taken when bagging my items. For example, I purchased a hot rotisserie chicken for dinner, and it was placed at the very bottom of the bag -- underneath other groceries. The heat from the container actually melted my cookies. It was disappointing because I chose to go through a cashier hoping for better service. I understand everyone has off days, but a little friendliness and attention to how groceries are packed would have made a big difference. read more

I am heartbroken! I live in CA and used this store to send flowers to my 89 year old mother in Gresham. I ordered the Grand Mother's Day bouquet, paid the fees, delivery charge and tip. They sent the most disgusting bouquet I have ever seen. I can accept and even expect substitutions but they should be of equal value. Thanks for nothing Safeway! You should be ashamed. Terrible service in the floral department! The girl is so rude. I won't be coming back. It happens every time she always seems miserable busy talking to other employees just like the ladies at customer service every time I'm in there which is usually in the morning on the way to work and the occasional after . it just seems like the employees are busier chatting with each other like a bunch of highschoolers other than attending to service. The other rude person I encountered there was some lady named Michelle, and when I asked her a quick question she snapped at me for no reason ! I've seen her several times. I know that she's worked there forever and I just had a simple question . So, I thought she would know where to find a certain product I was looking for . Not the first time with her either. Nice store always clean but never enough people doing checkout. I am finding it harder and harder to not follow what I see every time I come into this store. Me waiting in line to pay for my groceries, meanwhile people are walking out without paying for what is in their bags. It's not tough to see them just walk out with a huge bag of groceries. With how expensive things are these days and how much they overcharge on a lot of things. Step up your security or stop overcharging to compensate for the theft. I was waiting in line when she was helping another Customer and she was all smiles and laughing. When it was my turn, she turned all snarls. I asked for menthol cigarettes and rudely stated "We don't sell them anymore". I pointed to the menthol cigarettes on the top shelf. She grabbed what I wanted and tossed them on the counter after ringing them up. No thank you or offered me a bag. This is just one of the reasons I don't shop there anymore. Went to Safeway. One of my items was pears. We weighed and it was about 3 lbs. When we got to check out we noticed that they charged us $1.29 a piece. We said we thought it was $1.29 a pound. She call over a supervisor who confirmed it was $1.29 a piece. Then she tried to tell us if they were 1.29 a pound it wold cost us $47.00. She must have thought we were idiots. Needless to say we did not buy the pears. This supervisor was extremely rude and I am amazed that Safeway would hire such an incompetent and rude person to represent them. I gave the store a 1 star rating because 0 was not an option. I used to shop at Fred Meyer but I am honoring the boycott. I guess I will have to to Winco in the future. read more

I went through the self-checkout, which half of them were closed, had 1 can of beer with my groceries. Waited forever for the checker to come approve, she demanded I.D. from me ....I'm 65. 65! I was embarrassed and humiliated. She tried to blame OLCC, I've held an OLCC card for 30 years, she can kiss my ass because I checked with OLCC to see if they held any rules or ongoing violations at that Safeway that would cause her to ask ID from a 65 yr old...NOTHING. Be careful before paying or leaving the store because they probably haven't given you the on sale prices. You always have to check your receipt before paying because they so often don't give you the advertised member's sale price and rip you off. It gets so tiresome! Or they mix meat that is not on sale with meat that is and you get a big unpleasant surprise at the checkout. And some of the employees are really not nice lately, but that might be because the Safeway stores in this area are going to be put up for sale by Kroger, which is enough to stress any employee out. read more

I go in this store pretty often. I went in today to get some change for my business. It's Sunday so banks aren't open at all. So I go up to customer service and ask for some change. I needed $80 broken into 1s, 5s, and a few tens Before I even finish asking for change the guy at the counter says, "we're not a bank." I respond, "I know but it's Sunday and I'm not asking for a lot". He goes off again how they're not a bank. I tell him, "sorry I'm putting you out. I know it's difficult". He of course goes in and checks to see if they have any change. Miraculously a grocery store has no change at all. No 1's or 5's at all.... Mmmmhmmm. My family has been shopping at this Safeway location for many years, but with the pandemic, I will be avoiding Safeway in general, if this is representative of their monitoring of safety guidelines. My 90yr old mom and I were at Safeway for a quick shopping trip. Normally I would not have brought her there, but she has been at home for many months and we tried timing our trip late in the day to avoid large crowds. After being in the store for a few mins, I noticed a family of 3 (mother, father and about a 2yr old) start walking down the same aisle we were on. The mother had a mask on, but had her nose exposed above the mask and the father and child didn't have any masks on at all. I ended talking with a clerk and she referred me to a manager that told me that they encourage the safety guidelines, but if the person said they had a medical condition, they couldn't do anything about it. I pointed out that the manager and staff did not talk to the family at all and did not know if the father had a medical condition to provide a reason for not wearing a mask. Given that Safeway has spent money to encourage customers to adhere to safety guidelines (e.g. recorded messages to remind people to wear PPE and social distance, stickers on the aisles encouraging to walk in a single direction and avoid random wandering and crowding) that they would not try to even ask people who do not wear masks to not shop or to provide a reason why they weren't wearing a mask. There are better and safer options out there. read more

Don't ever try to use their customer service because they do not know what the word customer service means. Very rude not just once but every time. They act like you are interrupting them and sound disgusted when you try to ask a question. So I recommend going to Albertsons customer service they are amazing. They do their job. read more

Then while receiving our shots she proceeded to lecture my wife and I on how vaccines cause autism and other disorders and that the the covid vaccine has killed babies who are breast feeding on women who received the covid shot. Went to my local Safeway today for my regular grocery shopping (Division St. in Gresham). After filling my cart I went to checkout. The self checkout was closed so I went to the one and only checkout open. There were 7 or 8 customers waiting in both directions waiting for one checker. He told us he was the only person in the store who could checkout customers! The lines for this one check stand were not moving so I took my cart of groceries and dropped it off with the Bagger to return to the shelves and freezer. If they only have one employee who can check out groceries they should place them in self checkout so 8 people at a time can checkout their own groceries. read more

Go here all the time. I am not sure anymore. I go there and get what I need but the lines are often ignored by staff and leave you waiting there for a bit. Otherwise, I always go here so I am not sure why I keep wanting to leave a mediocre review. It could be from the homeless people who are high as a kite and bring their mangy pitbulls inside before letting them pee all over garbage cans or even the entrance doors. Three days ago I purchased a bunch of chicken from this location. The butcher in the back didn't wrap the chicken properly, unbeknownst to me. Fast forward to today, after being away from the home for an extended period of time, I go into the kitchen to cook said chicken and due to the improper wrapping, the chicken juice spilled out throughout my entire fridge and floor. I now had a rather large cleaning project ahead of me. I went to Safeway to ask for them to cover the cost of the cleaning supplies I needed to purchase. They refused to cover anything but the chicken and a small bottle of cleaning spray (which wasn't even close to enough for the project ahead of me) after enough arm twisting. The right thing to do is always the right thing to do and this store along with its managers don't value that. So I'm no longer purchasing from this store and I filed a complaint with corporate for improper use of potentially dangerous goods. Unfortunately, this store would rather risk the bad publicity than buy a mop, a sponge, and an extra bottle of cleaning spray for a customer that has a pregnant wife who can't use the kitchen until this mess was dealt with. The worst part about Safeway is the long lines at the checkout counter. There's always too few cashiers (or a lady that's failing at extreme couponing and returning literally half of her entire cart) and rarely do I not see a line stretching out into the aisles. Once you do finally make it to the register, however, the cashiers are very friendly and able. We have reusable bags and they're always packed well. read more
