This is an overdue review, but I love QFC's bakery not only because their cakes are moist and delicious, but this is the best place to go for custom birthday cake decorating! Please note that most of the cake toppers (not all), mostly the figurines, were ones I bought separately and added onto the cake as QFC doesn't sell them at their store. If you give them an idea and vision about your birthday cake, they will make magic happen!! I've had this bakery make birthday cakes for my son's 2nd, 5th, and 6th birthday parties. His 7th birthday is coming up so I'm already planning to have them help me with creating an amazing 3D cake again this year! Danette was the cake designer for my son's 5th bday cake (Cuphead theme) which was a full sheet! It was a big project and she was amazing to work with. For my son's 6th bday cake (Fortnite theme) last year, we only did a half sheet and I think Danette also helped, but for the life of me, I can't remember who the other (main) person was, but I do remember the manager also assisted. My son's 2nd birthday cake was a Nightmare Before Christmas themed cake. He loved and still loves Halloween! The entire QFC Bakery staff at this location were amazing and so very helpful each and every time. Everyone always asks me where and who decorated my birthday cakes as they're show stoppers at my parties. We did my son's 5th bday party at Defy and I had random ppl stopping by just to admire the cake! LOL.. My guests also commented about how moist and delicious the cakes were which is really what I care most about with cakes as I loveee a good moist cake. Although I live in Camas, WA and there's a QFC location close to me, this is my go-to place for birthday cakes and my pictures will attest why. read more

I have been a shopper here for years and recently they have arbitrarily beginning to refuse entry to customers, at whatever time they deem "too late," a businesses stated hours are universally understood as the point when they stop letting customers in. If the hours say 8pm at a restaurant, they seat people until 8pm. If the store is open until 1am they are required, by law, to leave the main exit unlocked, until 1am. It's a health and safety risk, which is by far the bigger issue in this instance if there is a fire and the doors are locked, customers and employees could become trapped inside. The other problem is that a consistent store schedule is essentially a contract with their customers, so that the customers know that they can rely on the business. I have gone to QFC, at about 12:45am 1-4 times a week, for years. Knowing that I can get food there, at that time, and so planning things accordingly. Recently I have shown up at that time and been denied entry a few times, but other times they are letting people into the store at 12:59, as is right. It's an unwritten rule that if you go into the store just before they close, you make sure you get what you need and get to the register, but that is essentially a courtesy to the employees of the store, that the employees now feel that they are entitled to... in fact they might not even let you in if there is plenty of time to get quite a a whole bunch of groceries and still be out before closing, depending on how they are feeling that day. read more

I am mostly a Costco/Walmart shopper for my grocery needs. Monthly visits to both but if I need specialty items, QFC is typically my go-to store. I just happened to be over this side of town so this was my first visit to this location. The store is smaller than my neighborhood QFC but it seemed to be similarly well stocked. I go to QFC for bakery items, fresh meat/seafood and a few other things that the big box stores don't typically carry. They have a really good deli department that I like and appreciate. QFC is more expensive than my usual vendors but are competitive to Whole Foods, Trader Joes and Freddys. And they usually have what I'm looking for which makes the side trips here worthwhile to me. The staff is usually friendly, responsive and efficient and they still have checkers for those of us who are not amused being forced to do the annoying self-checkout thing. This is wrong on so many levels. It's like those Korean restaurants that charge top dollar and make you cook the meal yourself. This latest business model is why I find myself patronizing Walmart a LOT less these days. So I hope QFC remains being full-service as I don't mind paying extra to be treated like a valued customer. Other than that, except for having a different layout where I don't know where anything is, QFC locations tend to be fairly cookie cutter so you more or less know what to expect before you enter the building. This location is no exception there. Another thing I like is that if you don't have a QFC advantage card (or whatever it's called) the checker will swipe the "house" card so you get the discounts anyway. This is now my new QFC since my favorite one on NE 33rd closed. I loved that store because it was small but had everything. This location is larger, and I'm still trying to figure out the footprint, but so far I really like it. Prices are decent and they always run great sales tied to your membership number, which is also linked to Fred Meyers, so coupons are accepted at both stores. You can find even better deals on meat, pre-made salads and grab and go foods when they are getting close to their expiration dates. Their roasted chickens are delicious and an easy way to get a head start on a healthy dinner. Even their florist department has some great finds. Today I had to buy a succulent in the cutest container that looked like a whale! Seriously, it's adorable. They also had tiny pumpkins with painted faces and funny hats or bright fur hair for under $4. Yep, had to get one of them also! This QFC is nowhere near my home but when I go to my gym on the east side, sometimes I will take a ride out there when I need to stock up on pantry items. This review has nothing to do with the store itself, but I have to say something about the way I was treated by the store's manager, James. He was extremely rude, literally hovering over me while I selected my products, telling me to hurry up, all but accusing me of intending to steal the items I was comparing. He was quite literally sneering down his nose at me, telling me it was time to leave the store. I get that I am super slow when it comes to looking at things like flowers and vases. I'm really particular and I can get overwhelmed easily. Especially when I'm going to be spending $100+ , I want to make sure I have exactly what I want. If this were a restaurant, taking my time would be rude and have negative effects on the staff, but this is a grocery store. I wasn't in the way of or hurting anyone. Also- it's not like I was comparing things for hours- I would say absolute max 10 min. James treated me like a petulant and disruptive teenager, and upon his leaving sent another employee, Jenny, to 'watch over me.' She was just doing her job and trying to do what her boss had told her, a little cold at first probably because of whatever James had told her- but she actually spoke to me, acknowledged me, and took the time to listen. She even helped me pick out some of the vases I couldn't choose between. I understand that people have had bad days, and working in retail/grocery can be really stressful and employees have a lot to deal with, but it felt like this man was taking out his whole bad week on me. We essential workers have to stick together and I hate having to put someone on blast like this, but dude.. I'm sorry you're so miserable, paranoid and disenchanted that you feel the need to take out your frustrations on young women. Maybe learn how to regulate your emotions and be respectful. You really made me feel like I was doing something wrong and should be ashamed. Thank you, Jenny, SO much for making me feel like a reasonable human being again. I feel like QFC designed their store just for me! It's just several blocks from my house, there is adequate parking, it's open 24 hours, and the classic layout of a supermarket is employed in a smaller footprint without losing the variety one finds in a larger store. The employees and cashiers are always friendly, sometimes even greeting me by my name when I walk in. I know QFC is owned by a large corporation, but I always feel a pleasant, neighborly vibe when I shop here. The floral department is a major part of why I frequent this location. The floral manager is excellent at what she does, and almost has an intuitive sense of what her customers need. The quality of the cut flowers and live plants is first rate, with competitive pricing. In fact, this is the only place I buy orchids in town as I've never been disappointed. Their orchids are loaded with buds that seem to bloom forever! read more

The sad decline of QFC is hard to watch. It used to be my favorite grocery store. Unlike other Kroger owned stores, you can park right in front. They had small carts, which are infinitely easier to use than the large carts. The checkers were friendly and brisk, and they had competent baggers that would have all your groceries carefully bagged and in the cart by the time you finished paying. Best of all the footprint was small enough it was easy to navigate. Alas, those days are gone. Most of the small carts have reportedly been stolen. The checkers are slow, sullen introverts, who appear to hate their jobs and move at the pace of a three-toed sloth. There are no baggers to be seen, and worst of all, unlike a normal grocery store, they have given up night stocking, and every aisle is blocked with pallets of items to be stocked, and stockers are perpetually in the way. The management should be ashamed. This used to be a great store, but I'd rather pay the markup and get the old QFC service at Whole Foods, New Seasons, or Zupans. read more

When in Portland we shop here some. It's the closest supermarket to the VRBO apartment we say at. It is also where Corina's Daughter shops most of the time. It's clean, well organized, and well stocked. Prices are a little on the high side, but not like New Seasons or Whole Foods. It's a pretty good market. read more

When I noticed I was overcharged for an item I waved to the self checkout attendant who was about 15 feet away. He just said "sup?" The guy made me walk over to him and explain my issue, then walk back to the checkout. Not like he was busy. Bad customer service. After the J&J Covid vaccine pause, I received an email from Kroger saying that I should be able to keep my appointment and just get a different brand. HOWEVER, I later received an email stating that my appointment (which should have been in 2 days) was canceled without prior notice. When I called the customer service line the very nice lady said that should not have happened but was unable to find another appointment for me and advised me to contact the pharmacy directly. I did so, and after asking to speak to a pharmacy employee through the phone tree, I was on hold for 10 minutes before having to leave a voicemail. The cancellation Email gave no reason for the cancellation, and did not provide a number to call or ANY reschedule options. Just "your appointment is gone" and that's it. I would be disappointed, but far less furious, if the email contained even a HINT of context, apology, or offer to assist with rescheduling. But the cancellation email provides NONE of that. It took me three days of constantly refreshing two different vaccine appointment tracking websites to get my appointment in the first place and now I'm back to square one. And now it's likely that whatever appointment I might get will require that I take time off work. read more

I wish Portland had more of this store. Not quite as large as a full sized grocery store, not quite as small as a corner market, QFC is very convenient. The prices are decent, and you can be in and out in about 5 minutes. This most recent trip was for some kombucha to ease a tummy ache. The prices were comparable to Fred Meyer. I was actually impressed with the amount of food selection. A person could easily do their normal grocery shopping here. Oh, and their donuts are some of the best in the city. read more

Dear QFC, when you went into business at the 53rd and East Burnside for a few years you made the Kienows banana cake. Well after several years I went there to get that wonderful cake. I asked a nice guy behind the counter where the banana cake was and he pointed it out. I gladly took it home. I knew it looked different but things change and I was not worried. When I cut into it for a special ladies birthday it was a whole different cake. Ok so my fault I didn't read the tag on the cake cover. But shame on you for changing this cake. Nice store but no where near where I live so won't go back. I found the cake recipe on line for the next time this cake is needed. read more

It's the closest store to where I spend a majority of my time, open 24/7 and most of the staff is pretty friendly and helpful. The pharmacy gives you the hardest time to get a prescription refill it's ridiculous. Like today I had three prescriptions I have used two of them and somehow they've managed to lose my last one they say they can't find it. These people are incompetent at doing their damn job it's ridiculous. And then on top of that they're condescending as hell. The lady I spoke to today was basically yelling at me over the phone is how it sounded. I don't know if she was across the way from the phone but she's legitimately yelling. I live across the street from the store. All employees except one are fantastic and super helpful (especially the manager). But for the last year a worker named Doug is so rude that it blows my mind why he always in self check out. Two nights ago I asked for a pack of smokes (which I new were there cause look when I walk in) he promptly said we are out. I was very nice and said I saw them. He said FINE and started walking over to the case which My girlfriend was following to show him. He screamed at her to stay where she was at. I could tell she was upset about it so I went with him. He then said he felt "threatened"!!!! Then last night I was in there and the customer next me had produce that wasn't ringing up. He told Doug and his response is you obviously don't know what you are doing. The Doug realized it was a scanning issue. He was so rude to this man for no reason. Said something like this is dumb and to not get an attitude/ and be calm. The gentlemen just brushed it off but I leaned over and asked what is that cashiers attitude about? The man said that he shops here every day for the last year and this man is always rude. I am no one to complain because I have worked in customer service fo over 20 yrs. But I would bet thousands of dollars have been lost because of this man. I would be ashamed to have a team member who treated customers with that disrespect. Maybe he should be putting stuff on shelves where he rarely would have to speak to the bread and butter of the company. Other then that I love it location and the staff. I enjoy shopping here for the variety of foods, organic veggies, and chicken. If you have their QFC value card you save on many items, and they always have useful weekly sales on a variety of products. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The 24-hour-ness of this QFC has saved my ass an untold number of times. I think no matter how long I live in Portland I will never get used to the fact that everything shuts down at 11pm or midnight, and I always forget to plan ahead. So stumbling (sometimes literally) on this bastion of grocery love during the wee hours is always nice. Quality Food Centers serves up a higher-level of groceries than, say, your average Safeway. They have a decent selection of natural products, decent gourmet foods, and most importantly during the wee hours, beer (and pre-wrapped sandwiches). Also, they stock some decent produce. The service is always friendly enough, and the prices are pretty darn good. I generally do my shopping at New Seasons (for produce) and Fred Meyer (for everything else), but both of those places close way too early for my tastes. QFC gets an extra big fat juicy star for being open as many hours as every grocery store should. read more

This place is pretty nifty. It's going through a renovation right now, so I think the nifty will pretty soon be bumped up to tubular. That said, it's very much a Kroger's store. I walked in and immediately thought "Ralph's Fresh Market," basically the southern Californian QFC. Kroger's knows how to diversify and meet the needs of a community. What really makes this place great is the free knife sharpening service. Go to the butcher counter, handover your blade, wait 24 hours and voila! A perfectly sharp knife that cuts like new. Who would have ever thought this vegetarian would ever be happy with something she got from the butcher? read more

OK, if you're in a hurry, then the main thing you need to know is... slow *down*! QFC has got you covered 24 hours a day (except when they're doing the floors)! I've also got to say that I was surprised to find quality produce and meats in this place. For some reason, I had it in my head that QFC was the seedy corner store sort of grocery joint, but I was so wrong. Did you know they stock the same local, organic, free-range chicken as Zupan's, and usually for less? (Draper Valley, btw.) Did you know they will actually post notes apologizing to customers when they have to get certain produce from California due to inclement local weather? Did you know you can actually buy cotija cheese here?? Not to mention the fish here always looks 100% better than it does at Fred Meyer, and the price is no issue if you wait a week or two for what you want to come back on sale again. I love how often they run $3.99/lb. specials on whole Keta and Coho salmon. You'd think I was a wild bear in disguise, as often as I buy salmon here. The only thing I don't like is that it's a bit small, so the selection is somewhat limited, compared to, say, one of the bigger New Seasons. But on groceries, they still beat the hell out of the selection at the nearby Fred Meyer -- which has QFC waaaaay outclassed with shelf space. Ironic. OK, and I don't like how most of the limits fall into the "drugstote" departments. Vitamins and the shampoo I want and such. One last thing. For some reason, you will end up waiting a minimum of 5 minutes just to be acknowledged at the deli counter -- especially if you are the only one standing there and especially if there are three employees currently not helping employees. What's up with that? At least the one guy is nice. And the awesome produce guy makes up for it, anyway... he's hilarious! read more

Quick, Friendly, Close By? For my purposes, that's what QFC stands for. I'm new to the neighborhood, but I shopped at QFCs many times in my Seattle years. This QFC is a big improvement over the Wallingford QFC that was 2 blocks from my apt in Seattle. The staff are friendly, the check-out lines are quick, and the parking's easy. They also have a nice mix of basic and more upscale and natural products, such as Fage greek yogurt. I wish the deli had better sandwich options, but hey, you can't have it all. This store's about 15 blocks from my new place, so I predict I will be here quite often. I haven't even had the chance to take advantage of the 24-hour-ness of the store yet. Once I do, I'm sure I'll be bumping it up to that 5th star. read more

QFC is more of a specialty grocery and this is reflected in the prices. In general I like the store. The layout is well done and I don't have to think about where anything might be. The one thing I really hate about it though is the autochecker deal. I hate it so much that I always go to the line and let them do it. Besides and who knows, maybe it'll contribute to saving a few jobs or at least slow things down a little bit. Their organic produce is very reasonable and I can can just about anything I want. Best part about it is the convenience of a place to run into and grab "a few things". It's not likely I would ever do my entire shopping here. read more

Woohoo! Great deal! That's what I always look for when I go to the QFC store on E Burnside near my house. I like to look for food items that are approaching their shelf life expiration date that have the yellow Woohoo! sticker on them. Those items are often marked down by as much as half off the regular price, and they're still good. . .they haven't expired yet, and I'm going to eat them before they do anyway. When I go there in the evening, I can often find some good Woohoo! stuff in the bakery section as well as deli meat section. It's actually kind of fun looking around because I never know what I might find. I know that Fred Meyer also has Woohoo! items because they both belong to Kroger, but this QFC seems to usually have the items I like. Well, now that I've let out this "secret", I hope there'll still be enough stuff for me to pick from. read more

I have to write about my neighborhood store. Even though it is smaller and prices can be a bit higher at times, it's worth of it because of the service. For me paying a few extra pennies is worth it becasue of the friendly and helpful employees, as well as being open 24 hours!!! Yes I could not believe to learn they were open all night. This is a huge bonus for me. Much safer than the corner minute market. This QFC location has been my "corner store" for close to 10 years. It has went through changes and remodels and is still the great store it has always been! Two days ago I did some shopping, I went through Josh and Nates lane, Josh is always so nice and helpful! I really appreciate all of the long term employees, they are so nice. They have a great team at this location. The bakery, Deli, Meat department, Produce, and the Stockers! If I move away from this area, I will still do my shopping at this location! read more

Wow! This is a great store! We have these is California, but they are no where near as great as this one. The ones back home are kind of ugly and gross. This one is super nice on the inside! They have great produce, meats, etc. Large selection and great prices! They also have quite a bit of garden supplies and things both in the store and outside (most likely a seasonal thing). The staff are really great, friendly, and helpful. Check out their weekly ads, there are lots of great deals in there! They also have them at the store for you, but sometimes it's nice to know what you're going to get before you get there. I will definitely be back. read more

This is an excellent neighborhood store, staff are kind and helpful. I like that they have good gluten free options for bread and sweets and very fresh produce. Also you can find some killer deals here if you are purchasing food you're gonna consume quickly (expiring soon). It's not a big store either which I think is nice. read more
