This Safeway is so bad I felt the need to write a review. My biggest issue is they are always out of stuff. Produce (especially herbs), juice, eggs, dairy--not random, uncommon items. Their bakery is not very good either, but I think that might be because they are small so the baked goods come from a bigger store. I've had mixed encounters with the employees. This guy in seafood was extraordinarily rude to me just the other month. However, one of the guys in produce was really nice when I had asked about something that was apparently out of stock and he helped me find something similar that he comped. The fact that they are consistently not fully stocked means they could do better planning and be a better store. This store is so close to me that it's a bummer I usually end up going all the way to Ballard instead. Hopefully, they see this and take note! read more

This store was so dirty. The bathrooms had clearly not been attended to in a long time, the shelving in the dairy section was covered in crusted leakage, and check this &#@! out: The air in the underground parking garage was thick with the hazy stench of raw sewage. People (I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this!) were covering their noses with their shirts as they walked to/from their cars. It was truly disgusting. read more

The only reason they are getting 2 stars is because of convenience (walking distance from my apartment) and their pharmacists (especially Dane) are really nice, they know their customer names, and very helpful with my prescriptions. But the past few times I've been, I've wound up buying expired yogurt (my fault for not looking, but still...why is it in the store?!) and when I was looking at the Pillsbury biscuits that you get in the dairy section, half of them were exploded and no one seemed to be cleaning it up. It's just a dirty store, and clearly they don't care about their products if they have expired and spoiled food on their shelves. I'll still go because of convenience, but I'd rather spend more at Metropolitan Market or take a drive to QFC - because those stores have much better quality selection. read more

Writing a review simply because every time I come to this Safeway the lines are ridiculous and maybe two stands are open. It does not matter what day of the week or time, they seem to always be understaffed in regard to having checkers on duty. read more

The produce here is typically pretty good, and is a convenient walk away from home. We do most shopping online, but will come here for our perishables. Also, check for beer deals from time to time. Some of the best prices. read more

My favorite of the three Safeway stores that I frequent. Convenient, but just mostly average. Seafood counter is better than the rest and as well are the check-out clerks. Bringing your own reusable-bags is incentivized and preferred. Having to wait in a line to check out is not uncommon, but not totally unpleasant. This is just what you do in the city, wait in lines. If you want to avoid lines, maybe the suburbs or Enumclaw is the answer. read more

This is a true city style Safeway, therefore the selection is low. Only the most popular of brands survive to be restocked another day. However this is good news for you! I am constantly finding items with 50% off stickers on them...including alcohol! read more

I agree somewhat with the other reviews about the awkward layout of this store, but it seems to be something that they are working on, and to be honest, I have it figured out enough to pop in once in a while and find the items I need. I like that Safeway often has things on sale that I need anyway, but it's not always the cheapest place--I prefer to get my produce at a fruit or veggie stand like Top Banana, or at Pike Place Market, than to go here. If you're looking for basic items, a decent bottle of wine, and an average beer selection, this place will do you just fine. If not, Metropolitan Market is about 3 blocks away. read more

The only good thing about this store is Rolf! He gives excellent customer service and sometimes will even ask you a question of the day, which I love. Literally all the other cashiers are just rude or lethargic and make you feel like you are ruining their lives. Aside from Sammish* who is also great, but he is always over in customer service now. They keep getting rid of products, even though they sold well, and they are never stocked properly. Good luck ever getting gallons of Crystal Geyser organic oranges, or sprouted tofu, it seems they have underordered or just forget to order these items for several years now. They also got rid of pine nuts, daiya cheese, bake at home tortillas and so much more! Not to mention they ran out of organic ketchup on 4th of July, seriously?! They didn't see that coming? The one on the QA hill is a million times better all around with variety, stocking, and friendly workers, and also cleaner! Honestly if Rolf quits I will just start doing all my shopping at Metropolitan which is right down the street, the prices may be slightly higher on some items but it is an all around more quality store. read more

The grocery store is fine - the clientel is a bit problematic . Seems to be near the Queen Ave hub of our noble street citizens. I like going to this store and watching them steal and loot the place . At least once of every 10 x.s that I go in - I see someone stuffing stuff in their coats . Some of the bolder ones just put it in the cart or hand-basket and just wheel it out. read more

This is pretty much the standard Safeway except I'd say that their Deli section is a little better than most and their produce section is much, much, much worse. Personally I only shop here if I don't need to by produce. If I need produce, it's up the street to Metropolitan Market I go. read more

This is our closest large grocery store. We have been here about 10-15 times now. Great selection, kind of a weird layout (produce is split between two locations). The biggest problem is the staff. We have never been here and not had a negative experience with the staff. They tend to be very rude at checkout, they ring things up improperly and get frustrated when I point it out. I also had a girl one time that was slamming around my items and huffing/puffing the entire time. She even swore quite loudly for no particular reason. Unfortunate, because this Safeway is in a great location and very convenient. read more

I have to start off with the staff here is awesome! Everyone's very nice and helpful ... but like everyone else mentioned ... it needs some cleaning! The parking garage smells like urine ... I'm also not a fan of ppl asking for money right at the entrance. I know this is probably beyond the stores control but it does bother the customers. read more

The store needs a good cleaning at the entrance. Makes a bad impression to have dirty cement stairs, filthy escalator and grimy carts. I've been going there since it opened and it makes me sad to see it getting rundown. The bathrooms aren't clean anymore either. I saw the time sheet for cleaning them had already been filled in for the next 4 hours. That said, staff is very nice and helpful and selection is good. Guess I shop there often enough that I'm quite used to the layout and don't relate to those issues. Shoppers should mention store needs cleaning. read more

I absolutely loathe this store. They never have carts, they don't have self checkouts and its usually super busy so checking out takes forever. You're always about to run into someone else reaching for a tortilla. Plus there's an employee in the meat dept I've seen clean his nails behind the counter with a knife...mmm raw meat and dirty conditions. Its too bad its right on the way home. read more

This safeway is by my work. Don't go there! It takes so long to check out it's crazy. Too many people without enough staff. The staff there is really friendly. Also the deli food is great sometimes but other times is really overdone and old. For how many people go here you'd think they would switch it out more often. read more

The worst supermarket that I've ever had the displeasure of visiting. Been here 5-6 times to grab something for lunch. It's smelly, dirty, has incompetent employees and long waits at the checkout. There are not long lines, just long waits since the cashiers are slow (not trained well) and express lanes ever open. It is infuriating to wait for 10 minutes to buy a banana and yogurt, waiting behind 3 people getting groceries for the week. I should learn my lesson and never go in there again read more

Like the QFC in this part of town, this grocery store has a bizarre layout. In fact, their layouts almost seem to have been done by the same mad man. My feelings on this Safeway are pretty neutral. They certainly are cheaper than Metropolitan but sometimes what you pay for is what you get... read more

Ever since they restructured the inside of the store, I can't seem to find anything. Why would they put the paper towels and the toilet paper on two opposite ends of the store? You can't beat the convenience, though. Plus, I'm pretty sure they pump out factory-made pastry smells into the entrance on first avenue. I haven't experienced a chemical food smell like that since driving past exit 8A on the Jersey Turnpike. Every time I walk by I start craving danish and orange chicken...and you've gotta love the wine prices! read more

The Starbucks in here is great!:-) Its not my regular store so I dont quite know where everything is, but I got a great cup of coffee!

The meat department is fantastic! They are always going the extra mile to answer questions and cut near as you need it for recipes.

My favorite location. It seems like this branch is never busy so even though it's a little out of my way, but I will gladly drive the extra 3 miles to avoid all the craziness. read more

We just started renting in Queen Anne. I have been over charged every single time I have gone to this store and also had items added to my list I did not buy. Like a gourmet drink from the prepared coffee bar. Ridiculous. I told the man I bought cilantro which was 50 cents, he still hit parsley and charged me 1.00. I said a jalapeño pepper and he charged me for a serrano. Horrible. read more

I wish I could love this Safeway because of the convenient location, but every time I go in there are SO many dogs! Not service dogs. Dogs that are jumping on other shoppers, barking at all the other dogs, dogs that are not on leashes, etc. I have seen a dog licking the items on the shelves while its person did nothing to stop it. So gross. Service dogs should always be allowed in establishments, but I have seen many dogs there whose poor behavior makes it obvious they are not a service animal. Having dogs in the store is a clear and obvious violation of the health code. I don't feel comfortable buying food from a place which clearly does not enforce the health code. No thanks. read more

Why are Safeway's organics so damn expensive? Ugh. I don't really shop at Safeway really, if I can avoid it, but sometimes that's what's open and close to where I am. I prefer to buy organic because I'm into that hippy dippy stuff, but sometimes my cash flow is a little low. read more

Waited in line long enough for the IceCream to start melting in my basket, then when asked if was ok to grab another one that was still frozen I was given the look like maybe it was a crazy request. I went there to get a prescription filled for pneumonia. The good news was that they filled it quickly. The bad happened when I went to go pick it up and they asked for my insurance card. They told me it was invalid, which seemed odd since I had used it to see the doctor and get X-Rays only a few days before. The pharmacist then asked me to step aside from my place in line so that he could help the other customers behind me. I oblige, and he helps 3 other customers. More customers keep on coming so I get back in line because he has given me no indication that he will complete my order. When I get to the front he looks at me as if he had no idea about our previous interaction 10 minutes before. I remind him that I'm waiting to pay for my prescription. He tells me he's unable to complete the transaction, that my insurance card is invalid and that even though it may be a valid insurance card it was not a valid prescription card. So I tell him that I don't care I just need my medicine. He then ask if I have another insurance card. The answer is of course no. He then ask if he can get back to me. At this point I'm angry and I tell him that "I just need my F###### medicine I will F###### pay for it." He then responds by saying if you are going to curse then I will not give you the medicine. Should I have cursed, probably not. However, at this point I've lost all patience. I explain in a sore voice (this time without cursing) that the medication is for pneumonia, how long do you expect me to wait for my medication when it's already filled and I just need to pay for it? It turns out there was a way to get my prescription, I could just pay for it, then get reimbursed for it post fact once I provided proof of insurance. Honestly why not just tell me that the first time? Why ask me to step aside and get in the back of the line twice if that was an option? Why spend all that time helping customers that came in after me without clearly explaining why? read more

Waited for a long time. To be precise I wanted at least 1 1/2 hours at customer service. I wish they could be more customer friendly

i had bad bad experience with a checker by the name of SETH...this is the 2nd time he has done this to me...due to confusion/2 check limit/bored employees SETH loudly announced my 3rd check was DECLINED and in the insuing moment loudly demanded CASH...i was so humiliated in front of about 6 people and here's what happened...i first dealt with customer service WES who mistakenly told me a 3rd check was ok as i am " IN THE SYSTEM"... my side issue is that all of my ID was thrown out with the christmas trash(my passport, my birth certificate etc)and have to go thru a lengthly process with Homeland Security and they are taking forever! ...i knew about the 3rd check limit which is why i asked WES in the first place....TWYLA WILLIAMSON/mgr was no help at all... wouldn't "hear" what my problem was and how i got there..but regardless SETH caused the most damage.....left in tears.....did talk to dist mgr ROB WEAVER who resolved everything for me.....bad day all around! i have been a customer of safeway/queen anne since 1957 ..let's just say, this is strike 2... read more

For packaged things, and staples (milk butter eggs) they're fine. Limited veggies. For a store that's as large as it is I'd have expected more and better produce but it's Safeway not whole foods after all. I shop here for the cheap and reliable stuff. The hot food section is just not good. I got chicken twice that was literally mummified into jerky. The woman serving me actually looked it over before putting it into the bag so.... Checkout staff are always nice to me I'm a little surprised to read the bad reviews for them since I come here 2-3 times a week. Yes the pkg lot is dirty and yes the entrance is sometimes also. The homeless people outside mostly are ok I've rarely seen trouble. The same ones I see outside Met market also. Is it a great store where you get all the stuff you need? Not really. Is it a reasonably priced clean place where you get most of your stuff if you're a non adventurous American eater? Yes. For specialty stuff or Asian food, don't waste time here. read more
