Had a quick stop for lunch. Not busy. Big menu. I ordered the eggplant dish as u was feeling like vegetarian. It has tomatoes and spices. Got some rice to go along with it. Portions are huge. It's really for two people. Taste is great. Rich flavour and good consistency. Goes well with rice which is done fairly.

one of the best naan i've ever had!!!!! i am still thinking about it!!!!!!! food was flavorful and all 3 dishes we ordered were great! butter chicken, lamb gohst and this mushy eggplant dish that i forgot what it's called. love how we can adj spicy levels too! also i love how everything was very clean and restaurant was well ventilated (not being rude). the one critique i have would be service - some female server we had was not friendly at all but the other male server was pretty good.

Saffron Special Chicken Curry (L) and Kadai Paneer (R)

This restaurant looks to be loved by the local community. I walked in late afternoon on a Friday and it was packed. Fortunately, they had some outdoor seating available. Due to the packed restaurant, it took some time to get the waiter's attention, but he gave good recommendations and we didn't have to wait too long for the food to arrive. They gave a lot of cheese in the Kadai Paneer (red dish) and I loved the sweet and slightly tangy tomato base. The Saffron Special Chicken Curry (green dish) leaves a spicy and slightly dry mouthfeel, but the chicken itself is not dry. One portion of rice should be enough for two people and two entrees.

Small Indian restaurant in downtown Banff on Wolf St. Went on a Sunday night and the place was doing good business, but we didn't need to wait for a table. Tables on both sides of the wall with booth bench seating. They also have a bar in the back corner so you can order drinks. The menu has a pretty good variety of items. I ordered a mango lassi to sip, and it tasted like the mango lassi I remember. Nice consistency and sweet mango flavor. Next, I got an order of garlic naan. For $5, you get 3 pieces that are pretty substantial. Nice fresh out of the oven, with a nice garlic aroma and some crisped up spots. For mains, I got their tandoori chicken biryani. It's two leg quarters (2 thighs and 2 drumsticks) of tandoori chicken on a bowl of biryani. The chicken was really good. The biryani was very flavorful. Couldn't finish all of the rice since I ordered the naan. Total was less than $40 which was quite reasonable.

This is a five star restaurant! Awesome food and wonderful service. We had Tandoori raan, chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. Excellent ambiance with slow music.

Our first restaurant in Banff - we decided on Indian food for dinner and Saffron did not disappoint! The mango lassi is creamy and refreshing and a good drink to pair with the spicy dishes. Chicken tandoori is a little dry, but loved the paneer and chicken tikka masala. Garlic naan is a must to share.

Tried this restaurant with my husband on our trip to Banff. We started off with Masala Papad. Few papads were fine however few were stale. We then had Veggie Noddles and Chicken Fried Rice. The food wasn't that great and was below average. I even could some smell coming out of the noodles as if the vegetables weren't washed properly. The service sucks as we had to flag the server down multiple times. First for asking for ketchup and soya sauce, and then for the boxes as she wasn't attentive at all and gave us just two boxes however we requested for three. She didn't give us a bag either and we had to ask another server to hand us the bag for carrying the boxes. Spare yourself from this place! Not sure whether the google reviews were bought or what as this place is definitely not even 3 stars. I will not be ever going back here!!

The biryani had a really great flavor. It was made northern Indian style and it felt light but flavorful. I rated this a three rather than a four for a number of reasons though. The tandoori chicken was burnt and the lamb shank was a bit dry. The service was also quite lacking.

    Garlic Naan

Fantastic hidden gem of a restaurant here in Banff! My husband doesn't even like Indian food and was willing to give this place a try. He came in with an open mind and has changed his mind! Everything we tried at Saffron was tasty and heavy handed with spices. Absolutely delicious! What we ordered: Lamb Korma - Creamy, spicy, and the lamb was very tender! Also, it is a big plus when the lamb is not gamey. Favorite dish of the night! Chicken Tikka Masala - Juicy chicken and spicy with a hint of sweetness stew/sauce. Garlic Naan - Homemade, hot, and fresh with the perfect amount of garlic. What is not to love?! Paneer Kulcha - My first time trying a stuffed naan and it was great! Paneer cheese stuffed in between layers of naan with some spices. I recommend it! Masala Tea - Similar to chai but it has some different spices. You still have that very warm, cozy, slightly spicy feel to it. Yum! Gulab Jamun - It is a dessert cheese dumpling with a honey rose syrup. I thought it was a little too sweet and needed a little more rose flavor. Other than that it was pretty good. A different type of dessert than what I am used to. The main entrees do not come with a starch so the naan/rice you order will come on the side. One side of rice was plenty enough for two people. This is a great place to try if you are vegetarian as they have lots of options! Restaurant itself is small with only nine or so tables. The wait staff here are very friendly and happy to explain the menu. I highly recommend this place! I was not expecting to find good Indian food in Banff and this place exceeded expectations. Probably the best Indian food I have ever had. Period.

    Non-vegetarian thali

I did a bunch of research on where to have a great lunch in Banff while everyone I came with went snowboarding. Numerous websites kept mentioning Saffron. I live in San Diego and would never get Mexican food while on vacation unless I'm in Mexico...similarly, I wanted to get more of a "Canadian steak" thing since I'm in Canada. That said, Indian food wasn't necessarily what I was leaning towards but all the reviews were so good I had to try it. HANDS DOWN...the absolute best Indian food I have EVER had. I have zero regrets...I got the lunch special, the non-vegetarian thuli. OMG. I've never had thali before. The man working there explained everything and even gave me suggestions on some cool tourist spots while I was in town. Highly recommend. You will definitely regret it if you skip Saffron.

Flavorless naan with dried rosemary on it.

I'm surprised this place has this many stars as I found the food to be below average in flavor and presentation, and the service was not good. We got seated right away, but then it took over 15 mins for someone to take our orders after making multiple eye contact with staff. We ordered the AVOCADO JHALMURI to start and please look at the picture of what they have a picture of on their menu and what they served. The avocado that was somewhere mixed into this, tasted like a week's old guacamole that was going bad! We politely sent it back! We tried getting past the unappetizing look of it, because we had just finished a 15 mile hike, but not even starving, could we force ourselves to eat. The second thing was the lambt gosht, that was overpowered with what tasted just like one seasoning, so therefore not balanced! There are two gosht on the menu and when asked what's the difference between the two, we were told "one is with regular seasoning." Only that's not a good explanation of the food you are serving. We got two different naan bread, and even the naan tasted like plain flavorless naan that lacked even a pinch of salt and then sprinkled with dried rosemary on it. We ended up leaving after we also noted that in the bathroom was a used water bottle that was sitting on the sink that is clearly used as a makeshift bidet. Banff is beautiful, with a lot of restaurants. I would not recommend here unfortunately.

The easiest way to find it is to look for the Zyka sign around Banff Ave--otherwise, you might end up on a bit of a maze-like journey through the mall. You can easily access it via the stairs or elevator. Inside, the decor is clean, modern, and warm. There are lots of tables in the restaurant, so this is a great choice if you have a large group (although you should make reservations to guarantee seating). If you are lucky enough to score a window table, you get front-row seats to incredible mountain views and great people-watching. Zyka offers a buffet at lunch alongside a large à la carte menu for lunch or dinner. The food was absolutely spectacular. Their butter chicken is easily one of the best I have ever had! The chicken is deeply marinated and served in a rich, thick sauce with a perfectly balanced blend of onion, tomato, yogurt, and masala. If you love a thick curry that clings perfectly to your rice and bread, this is it! The matar paneer was equally hearty and flavorful, boasting another beautifully thick sauce with just the right amount of a spicy kick. But the real showstopper? The garlic naan. Finding excellent naan is rare--it's usually too bland or too dry. Zyka's naan is fresh, delicious, and has the perfect chewy stretch. Our family of five loved the garlic naan so much that we actually purchased eight more orders to go! Pro-Tip for dairy-free/lactose-intolerant diners: You can ask the incredibly friendly staff to leave the butter off the garlic naan. Remarkably, even without the butter, Zyka's garlic naan was still soft, flavorful, and not dry at all. Highly recommended! I am super sad that it is difficult to find an Indian restaurant as good as Zyka in Los Angeles ... and yes, I have been to many Indian restaurants, including in Artesia (AKA "Little India").

You're literally transported into a booming restaurant with savory scents and smoking dishes! I was worried because the waiter didn't write anything down but everything came out exactly as we ordered. It was so exciting to see the dosas flying out of the kitchen. I've never tried a dosa before and I'm really glad I waited until coming here. We got a potato dosa which is a crepe shaped bread full of potato and dipping sauces. I would go back for this alone. Then going to all of there tikka!!! The plates came out smoking and all the meat was tender and packed with flavor! The last thing I'll note was the masala dishes!! THE ROG AND JOSH is a must! But if you have a hike tomorrow I would stick with the dosa or tikkas!
