This was exceptional Indian food. Coming from a major American metropolitan area, we knew ethnic restaurants in a mountain resort town aren't guaranteed to be authentic, or good. Saffron was both! Best Indian food I have ever had. I had the Prawn Butter Masala and my husband had the Tandoori Raan (lamb). Both were fabulous, as was the naan. Such generous portions, I'm taking half mine to go. Saffron Indian food joint is an excellent place for some great food in Banff. The staff was friendly and the ambiance was alright. The avocado jhalmuri was a surprise dish that was excellent. We also ordered aloo gobi, paratha and aloo paratha. The food serving was enough to fill up two people easily. To top of, the masala chai was an icing on the cake. read more

Our group is still raving about this place! We passed by and saw how good the food looked, so we decided to come back the next day. No regrets that we did. Tip - go during lunch!! No wait at all but the waiter said at dinner wait could be an hour. We ordered: - samosa chana chaat (3 pieces, easily shared, good but not the best I've ever had) - onion japapeno bhajia (a must order, perfectly fried - light and crispy but not too oily/heavy - we were tempted to get a second round) - garlic naan (AMAZING, crispy yet fluffy, and fresh) - channa pindi (chickpeas simmered in a tasty curry that was great for dipping with naan) - lamb saag (creamy spinach base, lamb cooked beautifully and fell apart easily!) - lamb biryani (good flavor but didn't have as much lamb meat - would maybe skip this one if we went again) - chicken tikka masala (solid flavor with subtle smokiness that hit the spot) - rice was extra but one bowl was good for 2 people In terms of spice levels: moderate was truly moderate. Spicy was not overwhelming, could have maybe even been a little more spicy but we're a pretty spice tolerant group. If we lived in the area this would definitely be a spot we hit often! read more

I must say this is possibly the most delicious Indian food I've ever had. The naan was perfect -- thin, soft yet crispy, full of flavor. Mango lassi was thick and very mango-y. The butter chicken, special saffron chicken curry dish, tandoori ran, and gobi mattar were all perfect with the meat in the chicken and lamb dishes extremely tender. Even though I was wrangling my wriggly toddler (who loved the mango lassi and rice) and basically had to shovel food in my mouth rather than savor every morsel like I wanted to, this was an exceptional meal and dining experience. Excellent, complex flavors with just the right amount of heat. Lovely naan. Delhi Ki Aloo Tikki appetizer was fantastic and the chicken tikka masala and gosht malabsorption were rich, decadent. I had heard from a friend who had traveled to Banff that this was a great Indian restaurant, and I was not disappointed! Our family did a day-long scenic ice fields tour and were dropped off at the Brewster bus station around 5:45pm. The bus station is about a five minute walk from this restaurant. Our next Brewster bus to take us to Canmore from Banff was at 7pm. I told my husband that I wanted to try the sit down restaurant and he was skeptical that we could walk there, order, get our food and eat and be back in time for the bus in just over an hour. I was dying to give the restaurant a try, so we agreed to take our three teenagers to Saffron. We were so impressed with the amazing service and food! We were seated immediately. When we sat down, we let the waiter know our time situation. I was nervous because the restaurant seemed busy, but he said that he would take care of us. He immediately took our order and we had steaming hot, absolutely delicious food in front of us in 20 minutes! We had time to savor all the flavors. The wait staff were speedy with the check as well. The food itself was wonderful. We recommend the chicken masala, the coconut rice, the fried onion ball appetizers, and the garlic naan. The samosas were fabulous. I was so grateful to this restaurant for giving us a wonderful dinner when we were so far away from home. We were able to catch our bus after a pleasant 5 min walk back to the Brewster bus station with time to spare. Thank you, Saffron! read more

This is authentic Indian food- a lot of places in the US just put one flavor in Indian food - red chili thereby insulting the intricacies and delicate flavors of numerous spices that go in Indian cuisine . This place does true justice- we enjoyed every single dish - even my kids and they are pickier than I am. The service is great and the staff is nice. I literally had tears in my eyes as this food took me back home to india- I would say this restaurant is a definite stop if you are in the Banff area and like Indian food. read more

My two teenage daughters and I stopped into this restaurant on Saturday night. We ordered three dishes: saffron curry chicken, butter chicken, and a shrimp dish. Staff were all friendly and the food was amazing. We will definitely plan on stopping in on our next road trip to Banff. read more
