Everything was fantaatic and super flavorful (the naan wasn't quite as tasty). They had a great IPA on draft....but the draft was only 12 ounces...which was strange. The service was very nice. The food was very mediocre. The noun was not at all fluffy and did not have a lot of taste. The samosas had way too much stuffing and the crust was tasteless. The lamb Rogan Ghosh was OK. The Bindi masala was way too much masala although I love okra. The sagh paneer with chicken definitely was a stand out and was phenomenal. The Aloo was not good at all. The shrimp in the coconut curry was pretty good. The people working there were very nice. It was just that the food was very disappointing. But I am used to very good Indian food from New York City so maybe that's the problem too. The price point was extremely reasonable. I came here with a group of 9 people, and we had a reservation. Service was quick and efficient, especially considering the size of our group. We ordered momos, lamb kabob, lamb tikka, butter chicken, lamb korma, along with naan and roti. Overall, the food was delicious--but wow, it was expensive. The momos were nearly $20 for 10 dumplings, and most of the curries were $20+ as well. While the dishes were good, they only included a few pieces of meat, which made the pricing feel a bit hard to justify. My favorite dish was the lamb tikka. The sauce was incredibly flavorful, and the lamb was cooked perfectly. The momos were good but not especially memorable, and definitely not worth about $2 per dumpling. The other curries were well made and enjoyable, just on the pricey side for the portion sizes. I also ordered a mango lassi. It was a bit too sweet for my taste, but adding some ice helped balance it out. That said, I do recognize that this pricing is fairly typical for Indian restaurants, so it feels a little unfair to single it out when many similar places charge about the same. We got the veggie pakoras as an appetizer and we both enjoyed them. They were crispy and the sauces they served with them were good. I also had a mango cocktail that was pretty strong. We both ordered bread that came out before the food. The nan was pricey but was a large portion. I got the veggie coconut curry and my husband got the lamb biryani. My husband had never had biryani before and really liked it. We both ordered hot and it had a good kick to it. Highly recommend! Our party of 5 sat outside on a summer evening. Our water glasses were kept full and our waiter took our order shortly after being seated. He was very friendly. We got the Saffon Platter app. Plenty for all of us. Dinner was chicken tika masala, shrimp kadhai, veg coconut curry, mulligatawny, and veg chowmein. We got garlic naan, cheesy garlic naan, and rosemary garlic naan. Yum! Everyone was happy with their entree. Overall a good experience. We'd probably come back. Honestly, we were pretty let down by our visit here. The plain naan was tasteless and had this weird papery texture -- nothing like the soft, fluffy naan you'd expect. The masala chai was just sweet water essentially, no spices, no real tea flavor. Hard to call it masala chai. The samosas were a miss too. They seemed re-fried but the outer shell still felt raw and doughy, and the filling was so overstuffed with masala that it just didn't taste right. For mains we got the malai kofta and matar paneer. Both were just spicy -- no real depth of flavor, and the peas in the curry were literally uncooked. That was probably the most frustrating part given the price point. We really wanted to enjoy the meal but it just didn't come together. read more

Saffron Indian - Steamboat, CO We very much enjoyed the Indian food here! Be aware, their spice levels come in: no spicy, mild, medium, hot, extra hot. We got both dishes hot, and we were on fire! Chicken Korma: nice, creamy sauce, with good chunks of chicken breast. I didn't like that the picture on the website shows bone-in chicken, which is what we wanted, and it came with chicken breast instead. However, flavor wise it was good. Shrimp Kadhai: was a nice tomato-y gravy with onions, bell peppers and tomato chunks. Very different than the creamier Korma sauce, but in a good way. I liked the vegetables they weren't overcooked. Butter Na'an: was perfect. Gosh we love good na'an and this was delicious. We were stuffed but kept trying to eat more! Paratha: this one disappointed me greatly. Paratha js similar to a Chinese scallion pancake (minus the scallions) called 葱油饼. It's flaky and a little chewy, but dense at the same time; flaky like a croissant but dense like na'an. Whenever I see it on a menu, I must order it. It takes me back to my childhood, as my grandma handmade these scallion pancakes 葱油饼. The picture on their website was nothing like what we got. The website showed paratha how it should be, rolled out flat with a snail like pattern. This was just...flat, dense bread, no ounce of flaky, which is everything Paratha should be. Very disappointing. Overall, we loved it all except the Paratha, and perhaps the chicken breast instead of bone-in. Next time we plan to get extra butter na'an and try more dishes, but may opt to dine in so we can get clarity as the menu pictures don't necessarily match what they serve. read more

The saag was my favorite (although usually it is the tikka masala). Some people in the group found the saag saltier than their preference, whereas I found it perfect.
