While my wife and I were walking around Steamboat Springs, we decided we needed something cool to drink and stopped into Johnny B Good's Diner for milkshakes. We grabbed seats at the counter and ordered our shakes for dine-in. I'm a firm believer that the best chocolate milkshakes are made with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup because they seem creamier and smoother. My wife, on the other hand, prefers hers made with chocolate ice cream. Either way, both shakes were delicious. One thing I noticed is that ordering your shake for dine-in seems to get you a little extra. They serve the shake in a glass and also bring the metal mixing container with the remaining milkshake, along with a spoon. If you order it to go, they pour everything into a cup, and you miss out on that little bit of extra goodness. The diner itself is a fun throwback to the 1950s, with plenty of classic diner charm and nostalgia. The only thing I wish they had was a little more outdoor space to display some historic cars for visitors to enjoy. We stopped here after shopping at some of the local stores nearby. Cool place we were seated promptly by the nicest waitress. The wife and I split the French dip, and it did not disappoint. The waitress definitely runs the place and she has the personality to be driving person of this establishment. A 50's theme with a lot of cool stuff on the walls to look at. Johnny B Good's Diner in downtown Steamboat Springs is an excellent spot for breakfast or lunch! We were in for lunch and we had to get their infamous Ice Cream Shakes and Milkshakes! I had a Caramel Milkshake which was not overly sweet but fantastic flavor! Other 2 in our party both had Ice Cream Shakes a Mint Chocolate Chip and a Vanilla both were equally delicious! Service here is spot on like a typical diner very attentive to getting you what you need. We all ordered lunch as well, the Crab Cake sandwich with chips was the winner! Driving through Steamboat Springs, we found this diner on Yelp and lived the look of it driving by. So glad we did. Excellent service for late lunch. I got a Patty Melt (hesitant because they can be greasy) and it was the BEST I've ever had. Perfectly grilled large burger and great rye bread that was toasted and not greasy. The broccoli bacon slaw wasn't over dressed either so the meal was a bit healthier than normal. Husband had the bowl of Buffalo Chili that was huge and he loved it too. We are a bit road weary and got a cherry milkshake that we were going to split but turned out it's 2 for 1 drink day so we each had an excellent shake that took forever lid back to childhood. Breakfast here was pretty good and the only place in town that didn't have a reservation longer than an hour to two hours. We were a group of five. Service was quick and food was good. Decor inside is unique and fun. I had the popeye omelette and that was good. The hollandaise sauce on the top was super good. I wish the omelette had cheese inside. The potatoes were good but not the best I've had. We also had the Benedict, egg sandwich, and the deluxe breakfast meals. All were decently good and the chocolate milk one of the people at my table ordered looked so good. Food was marginal at best. I made the mistake of not asking if the open face roast beef was roasted in-house. It wasn't it was bad sliced beef worse than at the store. So that is my bad but for $17.99 I would have expected more. The fries were not fresh when the gravy was put on so they were soft and soggy as soon as I received my plate. Service was worse than the meal. Nat our server spent more time at the bar talking to the other staff about how good they are as servers than she did actually being a good server. Our 2 meals were brought out at different times, the side salad app was delivered 10 seconds before my wife's meal then she went back for my meal. Never once did she do a table check-I would have asked for some horseradish to cover the bad beef taste. We had to call her over for more water at which point she only filled one glass before she went right back to the bar. After we finished with our meals the dirty plates sat there while she continues to talk to the other staff. She comes back to ask if we want anything else and We took the plunge and got a piece of pie to go. Bad mistake. What's worse is she leaves our dirty plates sitting there while she walks away and punches in the pie. She drops the ticket and STILL leaves the dirty plates. It wasn't until she picks up the ticket and we were leaving does she say "let me get these outta your way". my wife is a server so 40% is our usual tip for good service. I would have left her nothing if I had paid the bill. She still got 20% because my wife paid. Then when we got home this was our to-go pie. Appalling, my 4 yr old niece could have done a better job. Well, it appears that JB has good days and bad. I'm thrilled to say we came in on a good day! In notorious group outing fashion, we didn't make it out for breakfast until nearly 12pm making it hard to find a plate of eggs in town. I live here and eat out around 10 times a week. Each week Johnny B's just gets worse and worse. I'm usually go to eat there every couple weeks. Tonight I stand at the hostess stand by myself. Johnny B's is the best ice cream place in town. I love the 1950s diner theme and have always loved coming for their milkshakes. I was in the other day and got some homemade pie with ice cream. If you are dairy free they have an option for you with their soft serve which is simply amazing! My favorite thing to get here is their Ruben sandwich with a side of cookie crumb, peanut butter milkshake! They also have toy buckets at the front for kids!
