Their combo meals were a little bit on the expensive side being priced at over $19 per person. The butter chicken also came out a little bit too sweet for some of us. There was a decent number of diners present when we dined in on a rainy Thursday evening. What did not sit well with me was their menu pricing was different from what you were charged at the machine. This was true for the seafood combo I ordered. I went with fish which is about a dollar cheaper compared to the shrimp. When I went to pay, I noticed that I have been charged the more expensive item for their seafood combo. I brought it up with the server and she initially mentioned that it was due to tax being applied. I argued again and explained clearly that it cannot be due to the tax and that I was clearly charged the higher rate. After some more arguing and back and forth which was accentuated more due to the problem with communication from their end, she then just mentioned that the seafood combo was just priced that way with the machine. I still did not accept this reasoning but decided to pay for the higher-priced false advertising seeing that the conversation was just going nowhere. read more

This place is a hidden gem. It was a bit hard to find but the food was very good and well worth the visit. I had the vindaloo curry which was very spicy but so, so good. It's up there with the best curries I've had. And the naan was perfect - fluffy and soft and just chewy enough. I will make a point to come back any time I'm in the area. read more

[Review based on my experience weeks ago] My friend and I were venturing around the Hamilton area and wanted to get burgers nearby but was told that the wait would have been an hour long so we decided to go elsewhere. We chose this place because we saw through the windows that there were plenty of space and I had a sudden craving for Indian food. We were seated right away but the employees were really busy. We had to catch their attention to order. From thereon, it was a waiting game. It took more than 30 mins for the food to come out but we weren't complaining. Once it came out, I was so ready to eat. The presentations of all these dishes were amazing, I could tell that we may have over-ordered for two people (3 dishes with 2 side naan). Out of the chicken tikka masala, dhal makgni and butter chicken, I found the butter chicken the BEST and my friend also agreed with me. The garlic naan was probably one of my favorite parts of this whole experience. I started regretting ordering it right after because I felt that it was a bit too pricey for naan but that was probably the best naan I have ever had. The garlic added such a strong flavor to it, in a good way, that I wish we ordered more haha. My friend has never had Indian food in Canada and thankfully she was content with her experience. Went to visit Sagarmatha for our anniversary and we were a little surprised to be the only people in the restaurant. That feeling didn't last long - more showed a little later and we were more than likely the first people to show at 6pm. Food: it was good! Looked great, well-cooked and flavourful! We enjoyed the vegetable samosas, chicken tikka masala, aloo gobi, garlic naan, and vegetable makhani. All tasted great, spicy and were all well presented. Definitely worth going. read more

The food at Sagarmatha is dangerously delicious. You will have cravings, and I think it's only fair you know that walking in. They offer Napalese and Indian dishes, which means that the flavour profiles are a bit different than your typical Indian restaurant. I find their curries a bit more mild with a slight sweetness to them, while still offering full, bold flavour. Positives: -delicious food and best-I've-ever-had naan -very reasonable prices -great value -authentic Opportunities: -service can be slooow, especially when they're busy because it's just a couple running the whole show (from what I can tell from 10+ visits) -restaurant decor is very eclectic My recommendation is to dine in on weekday days Order takeout on week-ends, and order at least an hour or more in advance of when you want or need your food. Go here for a yummy and inexpensive Indian meal. I went with a group of four. We ordered four dishes, some Naan and rice and it all came to about $70. We had leftovers and were stuffed from the meal. The food was really solid. Chicken vindaloo was very spicy but tasty. Palaak paneer was nice and creamy. Fish masala was a bit bland and mostly tomato sauce. The rice portions are large. This is a great place for a small group and a casual meal. It's not fancy and even a tad grungy, so don't go here for a romantic date. Flavour was bland 3/10 with the butter chicken tasting like it was cooked in tomato soup. Spice was not happening. totally wanted to try this place based on positive reviews. When you taste it, you'll know why - everything is THAT fresh. So order accordingly, and don't whine about it because now you know. I always get their butter chicken combo, and it's more than enough food for two meals (making for a delicious and envy-inspiring work lunch the next day). I cannot believe I don't have a review for Sagarmatha. I've been here since high school days of '12 and I believe it was called something else back then. The interior is slightly sketchy as you have to walk downstairs into a basement like setting with a clearly empty and abandoned room across from the entrance. Upstairs is nothing. There's a small staircase going upward but you can see it leads to nothing. When you get downstairs it is always 100% dark. There's several servers that provide service and they're very easy going. There's a huge menu to choose from. I love love love the butter chicken with naan and rice. For $30 (2 servings of each) fills me and the SO right up with extra left overs for the next day. I've recently tried their chana masala and will def be reordering. The food is freshly made so there's a 20-30 minute wait. So be prepared to wait!!! The butter chicken is soo creamy with huge chunks of chicken. The naan is crispy in some parts but doughy in others and I love it like that. The rice is very well flavoured but wish they provided more per serving. I come here at least once a week and have become a regular in the past couple of months (after being on a hiatus when I went to uni). This is definitely a hidden gem on King Williams. We were brought menus and a jug of water. It raised our expectations. If we're getting a jug of water, it's probably going to be spicy! The menu had lots of choices, and even combos so we got confused. The staff over there helped us a lot to choose better dishes. The combos are a great deal. A perfect portion. . The food takes a while to come out, but it's completely worth the wait. The food was as amazingly delicious as it was, the 5 stars would .The stars are given for the food alone. I had a Fish tikka Combo. The fish was seasoned to perfection. The rice was light and complemented the fish beautifully. The pakora was delicious - first time trying. Also The Chilly chicken wow... it was spicy! But oh so damn friggin' delicious! The Naan was prepared well and with the chana masalaa, tasted delicious. The vindaloo was spicy as vindaloo should be (ginger spicy, not suicidal spicy). The naan didn't taste fresh, but perhaps because it was due the lapse of time between ordering and arriving. The papadam was crisp. I wasn't too sure about the mango pickle. A bit heavy for the delicate papadam. Perhaps a carrot pickle offering would be more appropriate? Bonus: they threw in one tamarind and one mint chutney at no extra charge. **** Because I could have enjoyed two more cubes of lamb (light on the lamb), and because of the heaviness of the mango pickle. Delicious and affordable! I love eating here. The food has always been good and is freshly made. This time we had palak paneer, coconut curry lamb and garlic naan. This is also a veggie-friendly place. The service is very prompt and friendly, definitely family run. It's a nice place to go with a medium size group, too, but if you have a large group call ahead for a reservation and they'll suggest a menu for you and have everything ready at the right time. I have been looking for a tasty Indian restaurant since moving back from Edmonton to the Hamilton area about 1 year ago - yes it has taken me 1 year to finally find a decent Indian place! I can finally say that Sagarmatha is now one of my go to's! My fiance and I ordered from here and he went to pick it up. Everything was really fresh and hot when he arrived, and it was done quickly! The restaurant itself is in an interesting area - below Baltimore House, but there is a sign out front in order to be able to locate it. We ordered the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, two orders of rice, and two orders of garlic naan bread. Honestly, we could have done with one naan and one rice order - so much food! Oops! Made for yummy leftovers though. The prices are definitely worth it for the amount of food you receive. Both of our dishes had the right amount of spice, right amount of creamy sauce, and tasted so good. I am always pleased when there is a good meat to sauce ratio - especially for take out! The rice was fluffy and had great flavour - no crispy, crunchy rice here! Our naan bread was soft and seasoned just right - I could eat that stuff all day. Their service was quick. Ok a third point: their naan was good. We ordered 9 curries between us. Taka tak curry, roghan josh, karahi chicken and karahi lamb, as well as matar paneer, chole and bhaigan bartha. The curries were too sweet, the karahi and roghan josh curries have tomato where they shouldn't. Not enough meat. Dissapointing experience, to be very honest. This was my first time and had been meaning to check the place out cuz my friends had been here many times before. We had dinner here last night based on Yelp reviews. While most of the food was good, I felt they nickel and dimed you for everything. Rice isn't included with any of the entrees, and no substitutions were allowed...they just weren't very service oriented. Worse, it was approx -7 degrees C outside, and the heat didn't seem to be working. We ate dinner in coats and scarves, and complaints regarding the frigid temperatures were completely ignored. We ordered samosas for an appetizer and the combo meal (non-vegetarian). It included butter chicken, naan, chick peas, a small salad, a piece of papadam, basmati rice and a sample (1 ball of gulab jalum ) of dessert. The butter chicken was okay, but seemed to have more of a tomato flavor than I'm used to. The samosas and paratha were the items I enjoyed the most. I probably wouldn't return! read more

I'm in Hamilton for a few weeks, and thought I would try out an Indian place. The reviews seemed good, so it felt like a pretty safe bet. I had placed the order online, and asked for some simple adjustments - not to add butter to the breads, not to add sugar to their dishes (after seeing another reviewer complain about that), and to make the dishes more spicy. The order arrived 30 minutes late, I wasn't even able to track it via DoorDash. I tried calling the number to get an idea and got no response. And worst of all - each dish had sugar added to it despite me explicitly mentioning it in the order. The dishes were both bland without any spice, and there was butter on all the breads I had ordered. This place is far from authentic, they can't even cater to simple requests. Will not be trying again, and definitely would not recommend to anyone else. read more

On busier nights, there can sometimes be a bit of a wait for your food, but it's definitely worth it! The service is great, and the waiters are always very kind. Yummmmm - this is definitely my favorite Indian restaurant in Hamilton! This is a medium-sized restaurant located below Baltimore house, and although the ambiance is a little lacking and the furniture is austere, the food is really really good! We came here on a Friday night at 630 and it was about half full, so reservations aren't necessary. I ordered the takatak masala (fish tikka masala) for $10.50 and my friend ordered the murgh tikka (tandoori chicken) for $10.75. We shared a garlic naan between us ($3.25). The food was delicious and had a wonderful blend of spices and flavouring. I love Indian food, and I was definitely not disappointed. The only thing was the food took a really long time to come out - about 50 min. Would definitely recommend the takatak masala! Overall, we had a great experience here and the food did not disappointment. Will definitely be back to try more things on the menu! read more

So I ended up having lunch at this restaurant, and I ordered some extra food (biryani) for takeout. Once I got home, I opened it up to receive a foul stench; the biryani had gone bad. I called the restaurant to report this and the owner/manager initially tried shifting the blame onto me saying that I had somehow screwed up from my commute from the restaurant to my home (citing the sub-zero temperature as a reason for it to go bad). However, I explained to him that I had taken the food from the restaurant to a warm car, and to my house. And that a 30 min commute wasn't enough to make "fresh" biryani go bad. He kept insisting that they always use fresh ingredients, and throw out old food. Still denying that they could somehow be at fault. In the end, another member of the staff apologized and offered me a free biryani on my next visit. Not worth the risk of food poisoning. read more

Delivery was said to be in an hour, but took an hour and a half (which was a little disappointing, but not terrible). The veggie samosas and naan I ordered were tasty, and the veggie korma had good flavor too. My biggest disappointment was that I didn't receive rice with my order. Our food apparently wasn't ready till 7:45, at which point we took it to go as we had a show to see. When I called to complain they told me there were really busy and it would be another 30minutes (note I called when they opened). I tried to cancel my order but they told me the driver already left.
