This was some of the best Indian food I have ever eaten! My co worker and I were meeting a former co worker for dinner. We walked in and he already had a table. The server came over to get our order for drinks and asked if we had any questions about the menu. we were pretty confident so she gave us a minute to decide. When she came back, I ordered lamb curry with medium spice and garlic naan bread. When the food came, she brought a huge plate of rice for each of us. The curry was delicious, it was perfectly flavored and the spice level was perfect. Everyone at our table finished every bite of their meal, and it was a lot. The naan was warm when it arrived, this is not always the case. It was very soft and had good flavor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was not run down like many Indian places, but wasn't overly fancy either. Came here for the first time years ago, was my first time trying Indian food and I was floored by the flavor and taste of everything I tried (came with a regular who ordered a variety for us). Problem was I live in Milwaukee so I spent the next couple years trying to find a comparably good Indian restaurant in Milwaukee and nothing came close. So I returned this week while visiting family in the area and was just as good as I remembered. My favorite was the Tikka Masala, will get that every time. One of my favorite Indian restaurants in the area, if not my favorite. A must if you are seeking amazing flavor and wonderful service, this is a must stop! My husband choose the lamb biryani. He asked for it to be very spicy but it came out perfectly spiced. It wasn't too hot to handle. The heat creeped up at the end. It balanced well with the Basmati rice. I choose the Tandoori chicken and it was delicious. They marinated the chicken pieces in yogurt so it came out with a soft bite. It was so delicious. Oh, the flavors! I wished I had ordered more food. The gentleman in the front was kind and patient. He allowed us to go through the menu and offered answers to our questions. It probably took 15 minutes to get our order. Not too long but I would order ahead of time because their website looked user-friendly. Don't let the outside appearance fool you. The past two times I've visited my mother in Appleton, we've gone to Sai Ram for lunch. It's really quite delicious. The place itself is clean and open. Nothing super noteworthy but it's nice-looking and inviting. The staff was overall very friendly. Though the service was a little slow both times, my family and I weren't in a major hurry so it wasn't a big deal. As it turns out, without quite realizing it, I ordered the exact same thing both times. There's a great lunch menu with 8-9 options, and you can pick 2...so it's nice for getting a little variety without committing to a whole plate of something. The portions are reasonable for lunch. The lentil soup and garlic naan are really good. The Chicken Makhani is out of this world. I highly recommend going with it. It's creamy and flavorful and the chicken is perfectly tender. I also got the Chana Masala, which was quite good too. My brother got the Beef Vindaloo and raved about it. Capped it off with a Madras Coffee and was really pleased. Favorite Indian restaurant of all time Have eaten here for 15+ years, and I always order the chicken makhani curry, naan, mixed pakoras, and the mango lassi. Have tried plenty of their curries, but I always fall back to chicken makhani! The chicken makhani is perfectly buttery and flavorful. We were looking for indian cuisine around this area and so glad we bumped into Sai Ram. They took our order right away and told us to be there in 20 mins for curb side pick up. Located in a strip mall, very easy to find then. Plenty of parking space too if you plan to eat here. When we arrived after 20 mins, the lady came out and dropped off our food promptly! We ordered navratan korma, chicken korma and dal makhni and pakoras and they were all delicious. We particularly enjoyed the Navratan korma because it had sweet undertones and surprisingly it went really well with the other food items and the naan bread. I have heard great things about their lamb dishes and can't wait to try them out sometime next when I am in the area! Atmosphere: Long narrow restaurant. Long narrow parking lot. The host/hostess station is located right when you walk in. They have booths and tables. Service: Fast and friendly. I was hoping they would do a bit more describing for some of the sauces since my fiance had never been to an indian restaurant before, I had to do my best telling him exactly what he was eating. Food: The samosas had good quantity in filling, and the sauces that came with it were good. The garlic naan was the best part of the meal hands down. I could eat that every day. The two entrees we had were the chicken masala and the vegetable biryani. The quantities were good but the chicken masala wasn't very hot and cooled off very quickly. Ordered takeout because you know...COVID19. I've been meaning to try this place for a while as it isn't far from my office. Man, I wish I had been there sooner. This stuff is good. I haven't had really good Indian food since I was in London and this place makes some great stuff. One of my favorite items was a palak paneer. I also had the chicken masala. I like that you can vary the spice levels too as I like it spicier but the people I shared it with prefer more mild to medium. They have quite a few choices of proteins and a good lunch special too. Ok, for the second time in a row, absolutely cold curry. But to go with it, this time I ordered a side of vegetables. When me & my wife got our cold food, I was informed that the vegetables were gonna take a bit more time. That's fine, whatever. Visiting this restaurant opened my eyes to a whole new cuisine type! I've eaten at other Indian restaurants in the area (the old mad apple, and Indian dar bar) and was never a big fan of the food I ordered there - I thought I didn't like Indian flavors. Turns out I was just eating at the wrong Indian restaurants! I've come here multiple different times with many different group sizes. Depending on group size (anywhere from 4-15 people) you can expect a pretty long wait for food. They get busy, and have plenty of seating, but the kitchen is a bit slower (usually a 30-40 min wait for a group of 2-6) at getting the food out. It's always been worth the wait for me though! Food wise, I've always ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala with garlic naan. I'd guess it's one of their most popular dishes as I'm never the only one in my party to choose this same dish. You have the option to choose the "spice level" of your dish. Mild, medium, or spicy (they'll go hotter if you really want). I ordered mild when I first started to come here, but the medium is not much hotter and brings more flavor in my opinion. If you can handle jalapeños on pizza or like red pepper flakes, the medium will not be spicy for you. Best tip?? Always order your OWN order of garlic naan. You get 4 triangles with each order and you'll want to use all of them to scoop up that delicious sauce that comes with your dish. A note- the naan comes out in little "communal" baskets. So if your table has 3 orders of naan, they'll come in one basket. I'd rather have my 4 pieces come on my own personal plate (maybe with the rice), but maybe that's just me. For my friends who are more adventurous, the menu has many more authentic Indian dishes and they are never disappointed in their food. It's never hard for me to find someone else who wants to come with me to Sai Ram (even friends who travel from Oshkosh or Green Bay for some good Indian food). Love this place! read more

The appetizers were great additions to the meal as were the mango lassi and cardamon chai. The wait staff were attentive and extremely helpful. By far the absolute best Indian food you can find anywhere in Wisconsin. It is very likely the best food in Appleton and quite possibly the best food in the Fox Valley. Most food options in this area lack any semblance of the idea of flavor. If you have not ate at Sai Ram before and you have found yourself satisfied or enjoying the food at the dining options in this area, heed this warning: this is real food. Once you grace your lips with food like this, your life will change. You will not look at food the same. You will see your dining out options as dull and mundane. You'll soon find the task of picking a restaurant to be even more exhausting than before. Finding enjoyable food will be tedious and exacting, yet never successful. Food very well may become a task for the purposes of survival only, rather than one that brings any send of pleasure or satisfaction. This is a love story. I grew up in the Fox Valley, but had never been to Sai Ram. I moved back to the area after being gone for just short of a decade. I had been living in Chicago for the past few years and had grown attached to a few favorite restaurants, one of which was an Indian spot. I must have ate it weekly. That chicken makhani was flawless. I swear I'd never felt love like that before. For awhile after I moved back here, I'd go back to Chicago every weekend. The Sunday routine was to have Indian food for dinner with my friends before heading home, always ordering extra so I'd be able to have it for lunch on Monday. A colleague apparently noticed my Monday lunch pattern and wondered if my makhani was from Sai Ram. I said "where?" I'm not even sure I received a response before going into detail about the love I had for my little spot in Chicago. Connecting with none of the emotions I had just detailed for my colleague about my makhani, she efficiently dodged responding to what I had said and emphatically implored me to give Sai Ram a chance. I really didn't give it much thought or consideration. I was convinced nothing would come close. A few months later, after I'd stopped going to Chicago so frequently, a few colleagues decided we'd go to Sai Ram for lunch... Though, no one had told me where we were going until we were on the way. I was apprehensive. I didn't want to be disappointed, and even more so, I didn't want to then crave the makhani I loved that was 3 hours away. I went to the bathroom. Someone had ordered me a mango lassi while I was gone. GOD DAMN. I don't know what they put in the mango lassis, but they are terrifying, in the most satiating way possible. These days when I order Sai Ram, I have to order two for myself because one will never be enough (and apparently three is "excessive" ). We were off to a good start. I get me some garlic naan. People were talking, doing their thing. The waiter returned and I noticed I'd eaten my whole naan before we even ordered. And no, I hadn't shared apparently. It was the perfect texture, came in the wax paper with the tin foil even though we were dining in to keep it perfectly warm, soft, and moist. It wasn't soggy and never got soggy, it was perfect throughout. For lunch, they have the option to choose two entrees served in smaller portions with basmati. I contemplated getting makhani as both my entrees, but figured I'd be smart to diversify my bets just in case. I got chicken makhani (spicy) and tandoori chicken.... and two more garlic naan, extra garlic. The tandoori chicken was nearly falling off the bone after the first bite it was so tender. It was flavorful and cooked to absolute perfection. My makhani. Good lord. My makhani is no longer the makhani from my spot in Chicago. My makhani is now this makhani. I've been too scared to go back to the other place since having Sai Ram because I don't think I can face them. I don't want to have to tell them I've been cheating on them... And that I'm happy. It's the kind of cheating where you don't even feel bad because it's too damn good to be anything but entirely satisfied. RIP to my ex-makhani. It was good while it lasted. I thought it was love at the time, but I know now that I didn't know what real love was. This is what real love feels like. I loved the food - authentic Indian taste - remember to ask for spicy if you like it hot and spicy otherwise, their food can be bland. Overall, the taste, service, and ambiance are delicious. The price is very reasonable. The owner, Priya, gave us extra dishes to taste and took care of all the restaurant guests with a smile on her face.
