My daughter is in 10th grade and still taking lessons. They both started with piano and eventually added guitar lessons as well. At one point I was paying a good amount of money for 2 lessons each kids but they were worth every dime. When I refer people I always tell them that the key to piano lesson is making sure the kids enjoy these lessons so that they can stay through high school. To me, that's the teachers at Sonata. They teach bc they enjoy teaching. Many studios focus so much on pushing the kids that it no longer becomes fun. I know my kids will never be musical protege and I'm completely ok with it. I'm happy that my kids happily go to lessons and they enjoy it. Bc ultimately that's all I want for them is to love music and I really think Sonata instill that. There are many "credentialed" studios out there but if my kids quit at 6th grade, what's the point. If you're looking for a music studio that focuses on the art of music, instills the love of music in your children and loves your children, Sonata is really your best option.

It is small, crowded, and the waiting area is very small so I recommend that parents wait in the car. Sometimes parents bring younger siblings too while waiting; and the kids just run wild, uncontrolled, screaming and being very distracting for those music lessons. This is why this is 4 stars instead of 5. However, it is much better now that Spotlight no longer rents part of their studio out to Martial Arts. Teachers are excellent here, love their jobs, love the kids and it totally shows. All lessons are private and it's affordable too.

He started with Mr. Mark in a group class setting and later we moved to a one-on-one class with Ms. Jelena. Mr. Mark was amazing and kept Jack interested at playing piano but later we felt our son was ready to have a one-on-one teacher and we were introduced to Ms. Jelena. My son easily gets bored so a one-on-one class is more suitable for him. We find Ms. Jelena to be a really great & awesome teacher. I like that she is a little stern but also very sweet. :) I think it is important because the kids are there to learn and Jack really respects her. She is really encouraging and a great teacher. The school staff Ms. Elizabeth is always so helpful and VERY professional. Jack is quite shy kid but thrives in having challenges and I think Ms. Jelena is perfect combination. Lessons at that time with a private instructor were $50/hour. Through a casual conversation with a friend, I found out about Little Chopin and learned that they were charging significantly less (somewhere around the $35 range around 2007) and immediately told my dad so that we could make the switch. What I love the most about this school is how they do theory instruction. Almost every student will end up taking the state and/or national exam (Certificate of Merit, National Guild). Certificate of Merit (CM) evaluates students based on piano performance, sight-reading, ear training, and theory. Most private instructors place little emphasis on theory. Many parents and students end up spending so much time, money, and effort on lessons, then transition to Little Chopin with their piano performance at a level significantly higher than theory. Students then end up having to frantically catch up in time for their exam. I am a firm believer that music theory is a fundamental part of piano playing. You will play better and learn songs with more ease with a firm understanding of music theory. What sets Little Chopin apart from other places is that they have an entire department dedicated to theory. Students receive a full 30 minutes in that theory room to review theory, sight-reading, and ear-training. It's truly a great system. The school is VERY familiar and experienced with preparing students for the Certificate of Merit exams. Students must pass 4 practice exams (previous CM exams) before proceeding to take the real exam. Most students achieve Convention Eligibility (80%+ score). I was a student here for roughly 3-4 years, became a part-time theory instructor for 4-5 years, and then the theory supervisor for roughly 1.5 years. I left around 2015 to pursue something more in line with what I majored in in college. As someone who is quite familiar with the ins and outs of this school, I couldn't recommend it enough. I loved my experience at Little Chopin. The students are so sweet, and the instructors are qualified, friendly, and patient.

Wow, I am so happy that I had found The Homework Club! My kids love coming here and they are all…read morethriving so well, thanks to Ms. Belinda, Ms. Theresa and all the other tutors! The tutors make learning fun for the kids and they all seem to make an effort to get to know each child on a more personal level and cater to each child's learning needs. The students are expected to show their tutors their test scores, GPA, reports, etc so the tutors can keep track of each students' progress. The tutors also make every effort to talk to every parent as needed so us parents are kept in the loop of their kids' progress. Besides making sure the kids stay on top of all their class work and maintain their grades, The Homework Club also have the kids participate in several fun activities, such as drawings for prizes, skate night, field trips during the summer session, etc! Check out their decorations for Halloween and other holidays! As of now, The Homework Club accepts students from TK-8th... and I HOPE that they will expand to include high school students because I don't want my kids to go anywhere else.!
