My friend and I went to Saigon for lunch on Tuesday when they opened. We both ordered the Traditional Vietnamese noodle with cabbage, shrimp, and pork meal. It was excellent. I took half home and finished it at supper. We sat and talked for two hours. Great restaurant for quality food. They offered several lunch specials which were an excellent buy, too. Always great. The younger man that works here is great. The food is always top tier, sometimes it's a light wait, but it's worth it. It's not a drive through after all. Food is cooked fresh. This place is the real deal. We are used to going to St. Louis for Vietnamese food, Mai Lee typically. But we were in the area and decided to give this a try. The food was amazing, and I'm not usually hyperbolic about reviews. The spring rolls were some of the best I've ever had, and the lemongrass beef was excellent. And surprise, surprise! My wife was in the mood for Moo Goo Gai Pan, usually not a favorite of mine because it's often bland and under-seasoned, and the chicken sometimes dry. Well, this was the best MGGP I've ever had! First, the seasoning was perfect... try it before you add soy sauce, because the amount of salt is spot on, but if you add more, you may wish you hadn't. Second, the vegetables were perfect... al dente but not underdone, color vibrant... just wonderful. And finally the chicken was extraordinarily tender and flavorful. I suspect they "velvet" the chicken, an extra step the best Chinese cooks use to great effect. Aside from the food, the restaurant is nicely appointed and clean as a whistle. Our table had a few drops of water on it, and the server immediately noticed it as he seated us, cleaned the entire table carefully, then dried it with paper towels! This is a place we'll definitely drive the 30 minutes each way to eat at. It was a wonderful meal. read more

This restaurant continues to be one of my favorites in the area. The special pho #123 is AMAZING. I always compare the pho i get other places to Saigon's and often times everywhere else just doesn't compete. The sesame chicken and general tso chicken are great as well. The portions are quite big in my opinion, I take my mom here for lunch and we always have leftovers to split between the two of us and my dad. The server is often working the entire front of house all alone, but he is phenomenal. He takes orders, busses tables, runs food, fills drinks, and checks out, so the wait is sometimes a little longer than expected, but it doesn't bother us at all seeing how hard he's working and how good the food always is. Depending on the time of day it can be very peaceful in the dining area, dinner gets pretty packed. The vietnamese egg rolls, bun bo hue, and vietnamese chicken wings are also delicious. Don't sleep on this delicious Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant in Belleville with its outstanding dishes! It is quietly located in Lake Christine Center in Belleville but don't let the unassuming façade fool you, this locally owned restaurant is worth a visit. Saigon in Belleville is my favorite restaurant. If you like Chinese or Vietnamese food, you have to check this place out! I've taken everyone I know there at least once, and they've all loved it! I've moved around the United States quite a bit, and always try all the pho I can find, wherever I live. I've had pho in San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago, Nashville, Charlotte, Denver... I love Asian food in general, but Pho is my perfect meal, and I've had hundreds of bowls in my life. St. Louis is a fun city for a pho lover, it's crazy how many places you can get it. I've had some incredible pho at a couple of places there, but none of them are any better than here. The first time I ever went to Saigon, I almost didn't go in! The strip mall kinda weirded me out. But I did, and when I got inside I found myself in a very clean, nostalgic little Asian restaurant. This is clearly a place that's been taken care of over the years. And the food!!!!!! Saigon's pho completely rivals "the best pho in St. Louis" - places like Nudo House, Mai Lee, Truc Lam, Saigon cafe on Euclid, Pho Long, Dao Tien, and the latest one I tried, DD Mau in Webster Groves. If this place was in St. louis, they would give some of those other places a run for their money. I do enjoy the pho at most of these places, but since discovering the Pho Dac Biet here at Saigon, I feel like my search for the perfect bowl is over. They bring you a huge, comforting bowl of the most deliciously prepared pho. The broth is seasoned to perfection, and tastes like it's been simmering away for hours. There's a perfect amount of noodles and meat in every bowl, and (not pictured) it is served with a very generous amount of fresh pho toppings: jalapeño, basil, cilantro, bean sprouts, and slices of lime. They also bring bottles of hoisin and SRIRACHA (!!) without even being asked. Because I've taken everyone I know here, I've been able to sample things from both the Chinese and Vietnamese menus, and I've been very impressed by every single one: - The spring rolls are absolutely delicious. They're full of fresh, crunchy veggies, and served with THE BEST peanut sauce I've ever had. I dream about this sauce! - The crab rangoon look standard, but taste fresh and exactly the way you want them to taste. An elevated version of a classic. - The beef and broccoli was a huge favorite of the last friend I brought with me. They also raved (for days) about the Bo Lui (beef on a stick,) an appetizer from the Vietnamese menu, which ended up being their favorite part of the meal. This is the longest review I've written for anything in my life, but I love everything about this place. I am in no way affiliated with this restaurant, I'm just a regular girl who lives in Edwardsville and loves good food! I consider myself lucky to have a Vietnamese restaurant 1/2 mile from me since I used to drive to St. Louis frequently to get my fix. This place has been here since 2009 and we have eaten our share of pho and other noodle dishes. Tonight we went for Chinese cuisine, and I'm thinking why did it take us so long to try it. My wife ordered # 44 (shrimp with Chinese vegetables) while I ordered Mongolian beef. Both dishes were better than any other Chinese food in my area. The Vietnamese good is pretty good but don't underestimate the other half of their menu. Huge portions! Fresh ingredients. I had the Vietnamese Iced Coffee- delicious! The staff are attentive and skilled at juggling the tables. There are plenty of tables without feeling crushed together. The restaurant is in a strip so there is plenty of parking. The experience: The server wasn't trained. Within 5 minutes of perusing the menu, I was better suited to guide a customer than she. I ordered 3 things: skewers, wings, beef salad. 45 minutes later... The food: The wings had good flavor but were smaller than my thumb. ALmost not worth the sticky fingered hassle. The skewers were 2 tiny pieces of flavorless beef jerky. I promise maybe a combined half oz. They were dry and had NO FLAVOR. The the beef salad. Basically 90% iceberg lettuce. The beef had good flavor but was scarce. My husband and I tried this place tonight. I have to say my expectations were high, going in after reading the numerous excellent reviews prior to our visit. Unfortunately, ours was not as perfect an experience as some of the other reviewers'. To start off, there was precisely one employee doing everything. He was doing his best - and was running himself ragged - doing EVERYTHING by himself. He did all of the order taking, drink bringing, food bringing, check bringing, and cashiering. Also, the menu in the restaurant was much different than the menu I was able to view online. The entree my husband was planning on ordering was not on the menu at all. The prices were a bit high for the quantity of food presented. Several reviewers' noted that the portions were generous. I would say we were tremendously underwhelmed by the contents on the plates. The entree I ordered was supposed to be in a butter sauce, but it was completely tasteless. It couldn't have had much in it other than water. My husband left hungry after eating his entree and both of our servings of rice. The one thing we very much enjoyed was the crab rangoon. I have tried crab rangoon at quite a few places, but these were, hands down, the BEST. Outstanding! In my view, it would be worth driving to the restaurant just to get some crab rangoon to go. I have heard about Vietnamese food and have had Khmer, but this was my first trip to Saigon. It's located near the Dairy Queen in the Lake Christine shopping center. I was amazed at the huge plates of vegetables with a variety of noodle options. I ordered mine with tofu, but the dishes come with pork, chicken or beef. It was SO good, with a sauce that didn't overwhelm the perfectly cooked vegetables. We all ordered different things, and everyone was pleased. The prices are reasonable, and I'm anxious to go back. Okay...it's been awhile since I've been here but my mom wanted to try this place again since she heard they improved their pho....came here with my mom and sister. We are Vietnamese and have experienced all Vietnamese food before. We walked in at 10:56AM. They don't open until 11 but we were still seated. Didn't get menus for 15 mins. Ordered our food. Took an hour to come out....the soups were hot but the rice combination was room temperature with sour and old protein! Some of it anyways. What we ordered. Egg rolls: they were very crunchy full of pork fat and small and hot. They were average. Ngoc mam chicken wings: so skimpy...smaller than the length of your pinky. 6 for 6.95...over cooked, dried and very salty. No thanks. Pho dac biet: meat was very though and overcooked. Didn't care for it at all. The noodles were also still very hard. It's like they cooked the meat then threw it on top. The pho broth was super sweet. Ewww. Mi do bien: ok....it's a seafood soup...what do you expect? Seafood! Duh! What did we get? 3 pieces of shrimp, pork, and won ton skins. Seriously? Common? There's suppose to be all sorts of seafood in this dish!! Com dac biet...only thing good was the fresh fried egg. Pork was cold. Shredded pork skin with pork was old and sour. Wanted to throw up. Egg cake was full of fat served with lettuce and not the typical pickled veggies. The ngoc mam (fish sauce) they make it squid sauce base. Cheaper alternative to the typical 3 crabs fish sauce. It was so salty we had to ask for more limes to squeeze. After that we home and down 10 glasses of water the rest of the day after downing 2 glasses at the restaurant. It was that salty!!! On top of that....service, it was different. The type of service I'm not use to while dinning in a restaurant. She wasn't nice or mean but her tone of attitude was different. Not friendly at all. Also, she's the only one working the entire restaurant. They need to hire one more server to help out. There's no reason food should take so long and no reason for people to wait 15+ mins for menus and go order food. So why the 2 stars? Well despite on service and food...they remodeled the interior. New tables, chairs, bathroom, even flooring! It's good they remodeled this place or else it would of died a long time ago... So among the 3 of my dinning partners...we will never come back and visit this establishment. No way jose. read more

Saigon is close to where my wife and I have lived in several different rentals and it's our go to spot! The food is delicious off of both the Viatnamese and Chinese menus. Great Pho for this side of the river and excellent Viatnamese egg rolls! They do lose a star for service. Luckily the food redeems them because the service here is generally really slow. Like painfully slow. If dining in come with plenty of time and good conversation, you're gonna be here awhile. read more

I see a trend. Look at the last few months of reviews. Something changed, something got broken, and if they don't get it right soon I'm not sure the place can recover. The service (two pleasant young people who I truly believe care and are trying) is abhorrent. There is no process, no structure- no pattern of work to manage the floor. Imagine running a three legged race while trying to do the egg on the spoon...in a crowded room. I have never run a restaurant, a lifetime ago I worked in a few. I have run organizations since then, both large and small. In order to have success the resources have to match the mission (or at least be close). At busy times Saigon needs to add at least one more person. That person would take/manage call in orders, cashier duty and seat people (oversee the front of house). The two servers would do just that/and clear tables. I didn't get to see the kitchen, I did see the cook. At his extremely, advanced, experienced, wisened stage in life, a prep/fry station cook would likely help quite a bit. When we arrived on a Friday night at 1745 by 1800...Saigon had been overrun! People came in after us and got food before we did. Our appetizer didn't come out together (for example another table got the same rolls at the same time although they arrived 15 minutes after us) We had two servers when we didn't need them and no server when we could have used one. I see people raving about the food. I will accept the chance that we both simply ordered the wrong things. The spring roll and fried spring roll were pretty decent (though late). My wife got vegetable lo mein that was truly uninspired. Somewhat limp, non-authentic, oily noodles, with a lazy boring mix of broccoli,bamboo shoots? mushroom? onion, celery. I think I did better in college with fettuccine noodles and a can of Chun King vegetable chop suey. (Okay well maybe not and that was just other circumstances influencing that dish's "impact".) I must reserve special comment for my dish. You know how real estate pictures/descriptions are never quite reality, dating profiles are as good as the first month of knowing them, public park descriptions....well you get the point. I "fell for" Com Tam Bi Suon Cha- Special crushed rice w. pork chop marinated in garlic lemongrass & soy sauce, eggcake, shredded pork & pork skin on the side. Doesn't that sound spectacular? I thought so. What came out was two thin salty pork chops and some white rice from a rice cooker. The "egg cake" was interesting, a tasty little cube (literally) of dressing like substance. There was no shredded pork and the pork skin was questionable. I ordered it. I should have done more research. I don't blame them. I just don't think we will be back unless I see a change in the downward trend on the reviews. I am so disappointed because I wanted to like it here.
